I got this idea, from real life. My little cousin wanted me and my uncle to throw his ball up on the roof as a game. The difference is just, that the roof is quite step there and using the Langerak home had to be different because it's another sort of roof.
Dustin Langerak sat along with his grown-up son Parker Langerak at the stairs of the house. Dustin held in his hand a kids toy ball, which he was juggling out of entertainment. The patio in front the entrance was a little rearranged with various sorts of toys, that belonged to children. A while, Dustin's youngest child Kaylynn had dropped her young daughter at her parent's home for a short baby sitting task. The house had been quiet now as the toddler had been brought to bed to make her siesta. Iliana is present inside the building along with her younger sister busy with something different, while the young girl was now in her bed. Parker had been invited to dinner with his family and had come back from work directly to his parent's home. He didn't miss quite much from watching his father and his aunt entertain the niece of the raven-haired man. His arrival actually even inspired the girl to have more interest in playing hopscotch on the terrace. Not quite a game, which interested Parker a lot, but he knew how it worked. Mainly, because his first child he had a few years ago happened to be a girl as well and they would do the same games at the Langerak home. Currently, his daughter is around the 11 years and values, that her father admits that he's not fond of that game and would suggest another game or go on with other people.
„So dad…...how does it feel to be the grandfather of three children?" Questioned Parker looking at the father spinning the ball on his finger, then he grabbed it with the other hand watching it slip off his fingers down at the grass.
„Yours and Kaylynn's" Questioned Dustin making Parker nod.
„Unless you have a son or a daughter I have never heard of….."
„Feels the same for me, to be honest. The only thing you know is different is, that you're older. Also, they're not your kids, but your kids' kids. You know, very important family members as well," The blonde responded. „I have always been pretty liberal towards grandparenthood. Your mother is well….your mother. Somehow fears to realize we all grow old someday, obviously it sounds somewhat worse, when you're a grandparent and see your own children have their family,"
„Maybe this is strange, but Fiona is the opposite of mom mostly. She's been happy ever since she figured out River was pregnant with Ruby. She had been really nurturing and patient during the pregnancy. You know her mood swings sometimes would change drastically. You saw her watching a movie, she would be balling her eyes out at a semi-emotional scene, would someone trip over something, she would be laughing like crazy. You know, what was the weirdest experience for me during her mood swings? She barely had any anger issues as I've heard from my friends or even from you. She would cry or laugh. What she had the most I presume was sadness,"
„And both her pregnancies went like this?" Questioned Dustin watching Parker ponder about it, then shrugged his shoulders.
„Good point. I didn't really pay attention. I think I was used to knowing more or less, what I had to expect during these 9 months,"
„Alright," Spoke the blonde, then heard from the pocket of Parker's shorts his smartphone beep upon receiving a message and he took it out to see he had two messages available both from his wife.
„I didn't notice I had received the first message before this one now," Mentioned Parker opening them as Dustin glimpsed at him checking the text. „River is coming right now here with Robert. She also texted her mom is taking her to work, cause she has to go shopping,"
„Wouldn't it have been better for her to take the other direction?" Questioned Dustin making Parker shrug his shoulders.
„Perhaps she's going to Appaloosa Plains. Usually every Thursday there's a street market and the visitor's number has grown with the months passing by. We've been there and it really does have interesting things," Commented the raven-haired man typing down a short response to send to his wife then placed it inside the pocket.
„Sounds interesting. I might go check it out next week, if I got time for it," Stated Dustin looking at the road to see at the corner at the end of their road past the Jolina household the brown-colored van of the McIrish clan come out heading towards the Langerak household. „There she comes," Mentioned Dustin lifting up his hand to wave at the vehicle, then saw it respond back with its headlight flasher.
Parker got up along with his father to await the arrival of the van, which turned aside to face the men with the side of the vehicle, so they could glimpse into the co-driver seat, where River was sitting. She slid the window down to look out at the Langerak men and greeted them.
„Hey," Greeted River watching Dustin wave at his daughter-in-law and Parker had his hands placed on the door of the car, then heard a chuckle coming from behind. „Robert, look who's here for you?" Questioned River playfully, then Fiona opened the window from the backseat behind River's seat, so Parker could see the toddler from the outside.
„Papa!" Spoke the child watching Parker gaze into the car amused at the sight of his son.
„Hey little man. What about a high five?" Questioned Parker holding his hand flat at the boy, which placed his hand on his father's, making the man smile and thrust it gently away to go along with the kid. „Good boy! Did you already have your nap?" Questioned the man, then heard the mother speak to the baby.
„Tell daddy, who you napped with today?" The brunette asked looking back at the toddler, which chuckled at the question.
„What? You didn't sleep alone?" Questioned Parker, then Robert pointed at the front seat, where his mother sat.
„Mama," Robert murmured making Parker make a shocked face.
„No? Really? You and mommy napped together?" Questioned Parker watching Robert grin amused at the father's attention. „And nobody invited me?"
„You were at the work," River mentioned. „Tell daddy he was at the work,"
„You…..work...you were work,'' The boy babbled making Parker chuckle along with his wife, then stared back into the front to the McIrishes.
„Did he eat anything?" Questioned Parker making River nod.
„He drank a fruit yogurt only. Perhaps if he's hungry cut him a fruit or share anything else with him," Suggested River. „If you need something, I got my phone with me,"
„Yes. We will be alright. We will make sure he's having fun," Promised Parker leaning his arms on the open window. „When will be the rehearsal for the soundtrack?"
„Tuesday in two weeks," Replied River. „If something's up with Robert again, you can ask Zelda again like last time,"
„Good, we will be good," Parker commented and gave her a small smooch on the lips, then opened the door behind her and removed the seatbelt of Robert's baby seat, then picked him out. „Come, little man. Now we're both going to have some fun with Grandpa Dustin. It's going to be fun," The dad promised shoving the door back, then held Robert in front of the window, so he could look at his mother. „Tell mommy goodbye," Parker said watching Robert cackle and wave at the mother, which grinned and reached her hands out of the window, so Parker would move Robert closer to her and she pecked the young child on the forehead.
„Mommy will miss you!" River commented in a playful voice, followed by tapping the baby on his hands gently. Parker stepped away with the toddler to watch the van depart, then he waved along with Robert at River, which waved back while sticking her head out.
Dustin picked up the ball, then held it in front of his grandson for him to see it.
„Hey Robert, what do you think about playing soccer?" Questioned Dustin placing the ball on the ground, then walked back to the tree in front of the house to wait for the younger boys to start.
„Come on, Robert. Try to score against grandpa," Parker asked placing Robert in front of the ball, then watched Robert get a little shaky on his legs and Parker held his hands behind him to keep him up. „Don't worry, go ahead,"
Robert walked against the ball, causing it to roll forward earning Dustin's attention, which watched the boy come toward with the toy ball. Robert kicked the ball gently toward the feet of Dustin, then he stopped the ball and earned a smile from the child.
„That's all?" Questioned Dustin curious and Robert approached his grandfather to try removing the ball off the feet, then Dustin dribbled away slowly from the child to watch him follow him. Dustin chuckled from having the boy follow him, then passed the ball towards his son, which stopped the ball with the feet and saw Robert chuckle. He made his way toward his father, which distracted the boy, and dribbled slowly to give his son the chance to get between his feet. The boy got the chance to take away the ball from his father's feet, then ran towards the grandfather with it, then kicked the ball watching it roll towards the feet of the blonde, which stopped the ball with the feet again. „Oh I stopped you again," Announced Dustin watching Robert chuckle. „Want to see me take a shot and make a goal against your dad?" Asked Dustin watching Robert nod and clap. Dustin smirked at his son, which stood there looking at his dad's sudden change of the facial expression and understood, what was up. Dustin kicked the ball watching Parker gasp as the ball flew up towards his face and Parker deflected the ball with his fist, watching it fly down towards Robert making Dustin shriek and use his foot to kick the ball up at the roof making Dustin drop his mouth surprised to see it disappear behind it.
„Uh….."
„Ops…..." Dustin said looking down at the toddler, which got sad as he saw the ball had disappeared. „We're going to get it, don't worry," Promised Dustin watching Robert rub his eyes, making Parker sank his eyebrows down knowing, that his son might have start to cry in a moment, then got the boy up into his arms to caress his head.
„We're going to get the ball down. If you want, we can go see him," Suggested Parker watching the boy nod, then Dustin went upstairs to the entrance followed by his son.
Later on, Dustin had unscrew one of the windows and tried to move it aside from the place, then Parker offered the blonde his help, by using one of his arms, while keeping the other under Robert's butt, which the toddler was sitting on, clammed with his arms around the father.
„Good, we're almost there, little one," Dustin mentioned stepping out on the platform of the roof, then Parker got out as well to see the father pick up the ball from the ground and look up at the roof of the second level of the house. „Had the ball landed over there, it would have just rolled back down. Here we're just unlucky," Commented Dustin making Parker nod.
„I'm still curious, about how different this is and why there's at least not one of the windows here, which you could open up manually," Commented Parker watching Dustin nod.
„I know. But you have to admit, it was a pretty house when we first bought it," Confessed Dustin. „Dare I say, it was one of the prettiest in my opinion. Whatcha think?" Questioned the father making Parker shrug his shoulders.
„I have visited Holly's home a couple of times and you know her parents' home makes ours look like trash,"
„It's not really fair to compare our home with a villa thought," Dustin commented watching Robert move his hands at the ball Dustin had in his hands.
„See? Grandpa Dustin has found the ball. Now we can play again," Parker stated while Dustin nodded observing the grandson touch the ball, trying to pick the ball with his hand.
„Aww you want it?" Asked Dustin watching the baby grin, then Dustin had a funny idea and threw the ball up at the roof shrieking the baby as he watched the ball fly above the roof disappearing. „Ops…..." Parker had watched his father do that, then frowned at the adult with a deadpanned face.
„Seriously?" Asked Parker, then looked up at the roof along with the blonde hearing the ball roll over the tiles of the roof and watched it fall down in front of them.
„Tada!" Announced Dustin making Robert look curious at his grandfather, then watched him throw the ball up again at the roof. „Opsie….where did the ball go?" Asked Dustin acting, like he had not just thrown the ball up the roof. Parker moved aside to have a better view of the roof, then saw the ball roll down and fall down on the platform they were standing.
Robert clapped at the idea, then moved his arms down wanting to play with the ball. Parker got down, then felt Robert push him on his face wanting to get off the man's arms.
„Okay Robert. Be careful, stay around me and grandpa," Parker asked letting his son down, then stood behind him to see him grab the ball and tried to throw it up, but it only flew a few inches and fell down in front of him. Robert got sad, then looked up at his father while pointing at the ball.
„Daddy, please," Pleaded Robert watching Parker get down to pick the ball and saw Parker look up at the roof, while the toddler clapped to cheer for the man. Parker threw the ball up at the roof, earning a happy laughter from his son, which made him smile, and observed the ball roll off the roof towards Dustin, which caught the ball.
„Now it's my turn," Said Dustin, then waved at his grandson and threw the ball up at the roof watching it roll up, then return down heading towards the younger Langeraks and Robert stretched his arms hoping to catch it, but Parker held his arm out to grab it with his hand.
„Got it!"
„Throw ball, " Asked Robert pointing up at the roof, then watched Parker take more swung to throw the ball farther at the roof watching it arrive at the top and returned in direction of Dustin, which took a few steps back watching it fall in front of his feet.
„Why did you never do this with me or Kaylynn before?" Questioned Parker watching Dustin shrug his shoulders.
„Never thought about it," Commented Dustin. „And I'm pretty sure your mom would kill me for that,"
„I believe that. I'm pretty sure River would do the same," Commented Parker looking around the area. „Although I have to admit it looks quite dangerous for Robert's height,"
„We're both here. He's in front of your feet. Just worry, when he steps behind you," Mentioned Dustin looking up at the roof to aim at, then had a different idea and threw it aside against the chimney. After it hit its wall, the ball rolled down, slightly aside from the chimney and landed on the platform a few feets away from the trio. Robert moved towards the ball, while Parker stepped aside to pursue his son making sure, he would block him from any potential way to get into the danger zone. Robert grabbed the ball, then looked at his father and pointed at the roof. Dustin picked up Robert from under his arms, making him laugh and lose the ball. Parker picked up the ball to see Robert wanting the raven-haired man to hand out the ball at him.
„Do you want to give it a try?" Questioned Parker watching Robert nod, then Parker gave Robert the ball, then stood beside the duo to watch Dustin take a few steps back carefully, while Parker watched slightly tensed due to knowing his dad's clumsy tendencies. Dustin watched Robert throw the ball watching it hit the edge of the roof, then drop down on the ground. „Don't worry, you'll get it," Promised Parker picking up the ball to give it back to his son. „Come with more force,"
„Grandpapa is here with you," Dustin assured watching Robert try to throw the ball. Before it happened, Dustin went on his tip-toes to get taller and watched the child throw the ball, which landed behind the edge of the roof, then got down on the ground again, getting the Langerak men to cheer for the result.
„See? You did it," Complimented Dustin, then Parker picked up the ball and threw it up on the roof seeing it land in the middle, thereafter making its way down at the double citizen's man's hands. „Our turn, big man," Mentioned Dustin making Parker chuckle as he handed out the ball to the brunette kid. „Come on, boy. Can we throw farther than daddy?"
„Ja!" Answered the boy, then Dustin placed his hand on the ball and swung it back to throw it further, making the boy cackle at sensing the grandfather move the boy's arm as well upon the shot of the ball. „Look, look, look!" Warned Dustin as the ball made a curve around the roof, then returned to head towards Parker's direction and Parker held out his hand to try to grip the ball with his hand, which he didn't manage to catch successfully and saw it bounce towards the roof of the parking area.
„Be careful," Warned Dustin watching Parker walk normally at the roof to pick the ball up and threw it up at the roof again to watch it roll down. „A fine game, daddy and grandpa found for you, right?" Asked the blonde making the toddler chuckle.
„What are you two doing up there?!" Asked a voice loud shrieking the two men, then looked around and both approached carefully the front of the house to spot Iliana Langerak down on the ground with her arms crossed.
„Uh hi honey," Greeted Dustin embarrassed. „Your blouse looks spot on,"
„Get down with your grandson, before he gets hurt or worse," Ordered Iliana stern about the husband and son's presence on the roof with the grandson.
„We will," Dustin answered, then Parker approached his father holding out his hands at the son.
„Come on, dad. Give me the boy, you're too close on the edge," Warned Parker picking the boy up, then walked past the open window and looked back at the blonde, which grabbed the ball to follow his son.
„The fun lasted only for a little, but I'm sure you were entertained, right little fella?" Asked Dustin gazing at his grandson, which nodded.
„This better stay the first and last attempt. Otherwise, we're both a head shorter," Parker commented stepping into the house.
„Don't worry, everything went well. No one's got hurt," Dustin commented entering the house, followed by tripping over the removed window and falling down on his belly with the window falling on his back, to his luck the window didn't get broken. Dustin lied there confused while Parker stood there holding his son unpleased with getting to know, that his father in the place of a grandfather is more willing to take risks, which he usually would have avoided as a father.
