The evening slowly died down a little before midnight and they all parted.
Jake and Olivia stepped out on her terrace and looked out at the horizon. He placed himself behind her as his arms encircled her.
"You're awfully quiet," he said.
"I'm just enjoying the moment."
He felt her turn and he loosened a bit his arms so that he could still hold her, but not preventing her from turning toward him.
"There are no strong enough words for what I feel right now. Everything I've ever wanted, everything I need is right here."
He knew what she meant. In the end, sometimes the silence and the lack of words was even stronger, than anything they could say.
She pulled his head down toward her and kissed him. He kissed her passionately in return and as they did, the skies opened above them and it started to pour, but they didn't care. The weather was still warm and the rain falling on them was warm.
She pushed him away teasingly and slowly undressed in front of his eager and hungry eyes.
He was speechless as he watched her walk over, naked under the tropical rain, to the infinity pool and slowly went down the steps, until she disappeared under the water.
When she resurfaced, she turned and smiled at him.
God, she was driving him crazy.
Knowing there were no direct neighbors able to see them, he headed for the edge of the pool and stripped, before joining her.
After foreplay, he led her back up the stairs and made her lie down on her back on the cushioned lawn chair. The rain had stopped but he wanted her, right there, right then, and in all honesty who needed a bed when you could have sex under the moonlight, that had frayed a way through the vanishing dark clouds.
He kissed her eagerly as he slid into her.
It felt so good that he felt her breath catch in her throat. As he increased the tempo, his eyes connected with hers and neither one of them felt the need to close them. It was as if they needed to see it, see what the other felt. He rocked into her then shifted position and raised her legs up on each of his shoulders and resumed. She whimpered feeling an intensity in pleasure that she had never felt. She moaned more and grabbed the back of the cushion as she closed her eyes and arched her back a bit, allowing him to go deeper.
He knew he was close, close to his rapture, just as much as she was nearing her tipping point. But he didn't want this to end. He stopped, lowered her legs, and pulled out as she studied him.
He stood, winked, and headed for the other long chair. When had settled on the end of it, he pointed a finger in her direction then curled it toward himself a couple of times.
"Come here," he said in a greedy and sensual voice.
She stood and walked over to where he was. He let his fingers trail over her glistening and warm skin as she placed her legs on either side of his. His fingers reached hers and he held her hands as she placed her knees, still on either side of him, on the cushion.
He lowered her gently and slowly, inch by inch, until he was fully inside of her. She let out a humming sound and then a gasp when his teeth bit down lightly on one of her nipples.
With both his hands on her waist, he assisted her as she rode him. He knew that with everything they had done so far, it wouldn't take them a long time to build back up the intensity and reach their apogee.
Knowing she was almost there, she let her head roll back, eyes closed, lips slightly parted.
He shifted his hands from her waist to her shoulders, his arms supporting her back. His mouth landed on her neck and worked its way up to her ear as he lowered his arms and her in the process, changing the angle.
"Come for me," he whispered.
The change in position, in angle, his words, his voice, it was all she needed to come.
Her moaning increased and when he felt her tighten around him and tremble in his arms, he accelerated. Her moaning stopped and he heard her whisper his name with so much passion, he let go and abandoned himself to her.
With the help of his arms behind her back, he lifted her and brought her against his chest as they recuperated.
As she breathed heavily against his chest, he realized that he had been wrong all these years. Sex was good, but making love was better.
They spent the next day hanging out with Natasha and Bradley. Javy was giving Jake the cold shoulder and had preferred remaining on base alone as Kiley was busy working.
The spent the morning hiking Mount Lamlam and then after having grabbed a bit to eat they ended up strolling through the Chamorro Village Market.
As Natasha and Olivia headed in one of the little shops that harbored an array of traditional handicrafts, Jake and Bradley sat on a bench.
"So, you and Natasha, huh?" asked Jake as he noticed a change in how they were with one another.
"That obvious, huh?"
Jake smiled and nudged him. "Kind of. I'm happy for you two. It's been a long time coming. I think you two have had the longest session of foreplay I've ever seen."
Bradley passed a hand in his hair and laughed.
"Yeah well, I guess you and Olivia rubbed off on us."
He paused for a second then looked at Jake.
"It feels good, doesn't it?"
"Good doesn't even come close my friend. I feel like I'm constantly on cloud nine. It might sound really lame but it's the truth. I've never felt like I could be who I really was with anyone else. She brings out a side of me, that I had buried deep down inside."
Bradley nodded then cocked his head to the side. "It must be hard though. I mean not knowing if you'll be here in a week."
"Don't mention it," said Jake.
"What are you going to do?"
"I don't know."
Natasha eyed Olivia as they went through the souvenirs.
"What are you going to do?"
Olivia put down the seashell she had in her hand.
"I don't know."
"If he ships out or goes back to San Diego, are you going to go with him?"
She watched as Olivia turned toward her.
"My entire life is here. I can't just pick up and leave at a drop of a hat like he does. I've got a job, a responsibility toward the hospital, my peers, and patients."
"It's not easy that's for sure."
"I have the feeling like I'm free falling and not only do I not know where I'm going to land, but if there will be someone to catch me when I do."
Natasha put her hand on her forearm.
"Look, I've known Jake for a while now and I can tell you that I've never seen this side of him… ever. And I don't think it's Guam that has that positive affect on him."
Olivia blushed.
"You don't need to decide today, but keep an open mind," said Natasha, "not everyone has a chance at falling truly in love and being happy. Never lose sight of the luck you have, that your paths have crossed."
Olivia smiled. Her eyes then landed on Jake and Bradley outside talking together.
"I could give you the same advice."
They eyed each other before bursting out in laughter.
"We're screwed," said Natasha.
"Yes, we are."
Jake joined Olivia on the balcony. He noticed that she was holding her phone in her hand.
"Liv?"
"Beau will be back tomorrow," she said her eyes never leaving the horizon.
He eyed her and noticed right away she wasn't in a good place. The mood from the past two days had changed, but there was something about it that bothered him, and he didn't know why.
He caressed her shoulder. "Liv, talk to me."
Even though she loved the fact that he had decided to call her that, she couldn't show it. The inevitable was about to happen. What she had forced herself not to think about came back to hit her like a brick wall. Things were going to get complicated.
She pivoted and looked into his eyes.
"Jake…"
His eyes opened wide. "Wait, you're not going to go back to Beau are you!?"
She swallowed. She knew she didn't want to, but she had to handle it on her own terms.
"I need time to figure everything out."
He blinked. "What is that even supposed to mean? He doesn't care about you. He doesn't love you like I do."
He saw the surprise in her eyes.
"Yes, Liv. I'm falling in love with you and I'm falling hard."
What he didn't know, was that the night before, when he had stepped away from the group, at the party, to talk to another Lieutenant he knew and hadn't seen for a while, Javy had spoken to Liv.
Flashback:
"Hey Olivia, you got a minute for me?"
Knowing that he and Jake were close friends she had agreed.
"I know that you're in a relationship with Beau."
Realizing where the conversation was going, she turned and started to head back toward the party.
He had walked hastily after her and placed himself in her path, making her stop.
"Just hear me out, OK? If you have feelings for Jake, you're going to want to hear what I've got to say."
She crossed her arms in front of herself, as if she was bracing herself for what was to come.
"I've known Jake for a very long time and yet this version of him I've never seen. It's obvious that you managed to provide him with something that he has been longing for and somehow managed to crack open his concrete heart."
He looked back toward the party, wanting to make sure Jake was still busy and couldn't see them talking. He turned back toward Olivia.
"As his friend, there is nothing I want more than for him to be happy, but you and I both know that with Cyclone in the picture and the fact that we will leave here sooner rather than later, that you can't give him that. Cyclone is a proud man; he will never accept the fact that Jake came and stole you from him. He's got a lot of clout and he will do everything he can to not only make Jake's life a living hell, but he will ruin his career. If, and when, that happens, Jake will never recover from it. I believe that you truly love him, I do, and that's why I know you would never let anything like that happen."
She narrowed her eyes. "What are you asking of me, exactly?"
He dug his eyes in hers and she started to understand.
She felt the tears start to rise.
"Javy…"
"Losing you, he will recover from. Saying goodbye to his career, he won't recover from that."
He paused seeing a tear trickle down her cheek.
"I beg you, when the time comes, you need to let him go."
End flashback
"Jake, we both knew that this time would come."
He shook his head. "No. No, I refuse to accept that."
She closed her eyes; she couldn't bear to see the look in his eyes. "Jake, please, don't make this harder than it needs to be."
He took a step toward her. If he held her in his arms, she would realize that she was making a mistake.
She took a step back and he stared at her in utter shock.
"Liv, don't do this."
"Jake, please, just go."
He attempted again to near her, and she took another step back.
"I told you to leave," she said harshly realizing that it was the only way for him to walk away.
"If I leave," he said, "you will never see me again."
She turned away from him and placed herself again, arms dangling over the balcony in the void.
She closed her eyes and held her breath. When she heard the front door slam shut, she opened them, looked back to where he was standing and started to sob.
