Jake was pacing the waiting room floor. It had been a half an hour since the ambulance had apparently arrived and they'd heard nothing.

The automatic sliding doors opened and a man in similar scrubs than Liv walked into the waiting room.

He stopped pacing and their eyes met.

"You must be Jake," said Seth as he walked toward him. He hadn't had a hard time recognizing him from the description Livi had given him the other day.

"Yes."

They shook hands. "I'm Doctor Seth Maliloo, I took care of Olivia when they brought her in."

"How is she?"

One of the cops cut in. "I'm sorry Doctor, but unless he's family, he has no right in getting patient information."

Seth gave him a nasty look. "And I would agree with you if he wasn't Doctor McKinley's emergency contact."

Jake blinked. She had put him down as her emergency contact.

"Now, I understand that you need information for your investigation, officers, and I will provide you with all the details you need, but you'll have to wait your turn."

He indicated the chairs. "I will be right over."

Seth sat down in one of the chairs furthest away from the officers and Jake sat with him. Javy stayed in retreat. It wasn't his place to be there in the first place and lord knew how he felt responsible for what had happened to Olivia.

"We managed to stabilize her. She has a displaced fracture in her right arm and there is blood in her abdomen. The two surgeons, who will be operating on her shortly, are the best and they will do everything they can."

"How long will she be in surgery?"

"Anywhere from two to five hours. When I know more, I'll let you know."

"You didn't know she had put you down as her emergency contact?"

Jake shook his head.

"Up until today, it wasn't your name, it was mine."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Because she never would have changed it, if she felt she couldn't trust you with her life. And I think you should know that."

He took in a deep breath.

"Did you use protection?"

"I'm sorry what?"

"Were you wearing a condom?"

"What kind of question is that?" said Jake getting angry.

"Look, it's not a question I like to ask, especially when it has to do with the woman I consider my best friend, but I'm only doing it for your best interest here."

Jake exhaled, trying to release the tension building up inside of him.

"We did the first time, but not the second time we slept together."

"OK. Then you're going to have to come with me so I can get your DNA."

"Would you please just tell me what is going on?"

"There is physical evidence that indicates that she was sexually assaulted. If not today than maximum 24 hours ago."

Seth eyed Jake.

"If you had used protection each time, it wouldn't have been a problem. But I need to collect the DNA of those who slept with her over the past 5 days and that only pertains to two people. You and Beau."

"I would never do that to her."

"I know and if even technically I couldn't be sure, because I don't know you, I know she broke it off with you two days ago because Beau was coming home."

Jake said nothing as he lowered his head in his hands.

"I'll go update the cops and the MAs then I'll take you in the ER to get that sample for the sexual assault kit," he heard Seth say as he placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

After ten minutes feeling as if he was having an out of body experience, Seth headed back his way and invited him to follow him inside the ER.

At first, they were both silent as Seth took out a swab, asked Jake to open his mouth and scraped it around his inner cheeks.

"I don't understand why she put me in as her emergency contact knowing she had broken it off," said Jake as he watched Seth put the swab in a plastic pouch and seal it off.

"It never crossed your mind that it wasn't what she wanted?"

"Then why did she do it? She could have told me to wait for a day or two until she worked things out with Beau. I would have waited."

"I don't that doubt that you would have. But she knew it was risky."

"What are you saying exactly?"

"Beau is a superior officer, and you are a Lieutenant. You two know each other and have a history together. She knew, even if it went against everything she wanted, that if Beau found out he could end your career."

"Right now, I don't give a rat's ass about my career. Why would she even think that is was more important than she was?"

As he looked into Seth's eyes, he realized that he knew something.

"What are you not telling me?"

Seth said nothing.

"If you care about her as much as I love her, you owe it to her to tell me what you know. Please."
