Author's Note:
Okay, so I decided to add in a song that was originally supposed to be in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" but there was no place for it, so I figured that it would fit in here. Funny enough, the song "Someday" is actually featured in the Broadway version of the movie and it was also sung by the late Broadway actress Laurie Beechman, who was and is an amazing songstress. If you want to hear the song yourself, go check it out on YouTube. You won't regret it!
Also, this is basically the last chapter of the story, so I hope you've enjoyed this story! I might actually do more parodies like this in the future.
Chapter 7 – Someday/The Battle For St. Luke/ A New Day Rises In Salem
A team of cops soon hauled Natalie and a couple of gypsies into a wagon as the door slammed shut. The wagon soon drove off as it headed towards the police station. Natalie then sighed as she sat down on the bench and looked over at the rest of the gypsies sitting with her. She then spun around to face the window as she saw a bunch of gypsies being led through the streets in chains. Many of the officers were also driving wagons with even more gypsies.
Someday when we're wiser
When the world gets older
When we have learned…
I pray someday we may yet live
To live and yet live
An old gypsy woman then tripped and fell while in the chain gang and tries to get up. A couple of officers then surrounded her as they beat her and plummet her with fists and batons. Several more officers were riding and standing around on horseback while one of them was talking with Randy. Natalie then turned back to face the wall as the wagon continued its journey to the police station. The officers then opened the back doors as Natalie and the gypsies were lead out of the vehicle and escorted into the building.
The prisoners were then led to a lonely empty cellblock as Natalie was walked over into a cell and the doors slammed shut behind her. Natalie then sat down and looked out of the window sadly as she watched the sun set gradually before her.
Someday life will be fairer
Need will be rarer
Greed will not pay
Godspeed this millennium
On its way
Let it come someday
Natalie then stands up in the cell all by herself as she sees the sunset and continues singing. The cell door opens and an officer enters the room and grabs her. Natalie then is escorted through the cellblock with more officers surrounding her.
Natalie then leaves the cell as she is heading for the square. As soon as she reaches the square, one officer undoes the handcuffs and walks Natalie over to a burning pyre. He then ties her there and Natalie looks up at the sky, silently hoping that someone would rescue her. She then looks over at the cathedral with tears brimming her eyes as she fears for her life.
Someday my fight will be won then
Standing in the sun then
That bright afternoon
Till then until the days
When the sun is gone
I'll hang on
Wishing upon the moon…
Change will come
One day…
Someday soon…
Natalie then sniffled and blinked back tears as she tried to stop crying. She then heard the sounds of drums beating and the soft chanting ringing in the air as Randy stepped up on the stage, holding a paper.
"The gypsy Natalie Cardin has been found guilty of the crime of witchcraft. The sentence…"
The officers then beat the drums even harder and then stopped, looking solemn.
Randy then opened his mouth to announce the sentence. "Death!"
The crowd exploded into an outrage as many people tried to fight against the cops and many of them were openly protesting the sentence. The ground trembled violently as the cops did their best to hold everybody back. Father Matt also attempted to leave the cathedral but he was stopped when two cops pulled their weapons on him.
"The time has come, gypsy. You stand now on the brink of the abyss. But even now it is not too late…" Randy informed Natalie as he was holding the torch in her face and she grimaced at him. He then leaned in dangerously close as he added, "Choose me, or the fire."
Natalie then glared at him as she then spit in his face. Randy then recoiled as he held his face and glanced back to see Natalie sneering at him. He then turned back towards the crowd.
"This gypsy Natalie has refused to recant. This evil witch has put every soul in Salem in mortal danger…"
The camera then zooms up to the bell tower where Drew was tied in chains to the huge pillars while Ivan, Marlena and Anne were busy trying to break him out.
"Come on, Drew! Snap out of it!" Anne yelled.
"Your friends are down there!" Ivan pleaded.
"You have to break out of these chains for God's sake!" Marlena shouted at Drew.
"I already tried. What difference does it make anyway?" Drew sighed dejectedly, already in really low spirits.
"So that's it? You're just going to quit?" Anne demanded angrily.
"You can't let Randy win!" Ivan cried, holding up the chains.
"He already has," Drew retorted sadly.
"These chains are not what's holding you back, Drew," Marlena berated him sternly.
"Just leave me alone, okay!" Drew screamed angrily and Ivan stepped back in astonishment.
Anne then hung her head as she soon climbed onto the ledge and went still. "You want us to leave you alone, Drew? All right. We'll leave you alone."
"Yeah, we're not even human anyway," Ivan replied as he joined Anne and turned back to stone along with Anne.
"We just thought you were made of something stronger," Marlena added as she got on the ledge and also turned into stone.
As soon as the gargoyles were gone, Drew slowly looked up to see the sight before him as he eyed Randy and Natalie intently.
"For justice, for Salem, and for her own salvation…" Randy announced as he then set the pyre on fire. "I'm sending back this unholy demon back where she belongs!"
Natalie then started to cough deeply as she slowly began to lose consciousness.
Drew then suddenly started screaming at the top of his lungs as he started to pull hard against the chains. The two pillars then started to shake and quiver violently as they began to crumble into pieces.
Drew then let out a resounding yell as he jumped into the air and the pillars exploded into pieces. He then grabbed a chain and it got attached to yet another pillar as he began to swing in the air. Drew then landed on the stage and untied Natalie before he hoisted her on his shoulder and dashed off.
"Drew!" Randy screamed at the top of his lungs.
Drew then began to shove and push against the police officers as he charged right back for the cathedral. He then climbed back up the wall as he then reached the very top and stood up to face the crowd. He then held up Natalie's body in his hands as he started yelling at the top of his lungs.
"Sanctuary! Sanctuary! Sanctuary!"
"Captain Janja!" Randy growled to Janja as Janja saluted.
"Yes, sir?"
"Seize the cathedral!" Randy ordered.
Janja then narrows his eyes as he turns to face Cheezi and Chungu. "Boys, let's roll!"
"You got it, boss!" Cheezi hollered as he and Chungu raced off along with the other officers.
Drew then walked into his room as he gently placed Natalie on the bed. "Don't worry, you'll be safe here."
Drew then narrowed his eyes and headed up to the bell tower. He then pushed a huge cart over the ledge and pushed it down. It then tumbled into the ground and crashed hard, sending many of the soldiers scattering.
"Come back here, you idiots!" Randy yelled as he turned to Janja. "We better use a ram to bust through the cathedral."
Meanwhile, the dark purple four armed experiment smashed into the caged wagon that held Brady and the other prisoners as he and the other experiments also broke the doors open and freed many others. Brady then saw one of the cops standing near him and he grinned at him.
"Hey, remember me?" he said as he punched him right in the face. He then grabbed a stick as he started karate kicking and drop kicking many of the other cops that came charging right at him. He then climbed on top of the wagon and held up the stick.
"Citizens of Salem! Randy has persecuted our people, ransacked our city… and now he's declared war on St. Luke himself. Will we allow it!"
"NOOOO!" the crowd roared as they began fighting with the police and gunfire broke out. Many people then fell to the ground dead as blood spilled on the streets. Some of the lieutenants were trying to bust the door open with the ram as the walls were shaking.
Yaarp then snarled as he blasted many other people away with sonic blasts and some of the other experiments were tossing and hurtling many officers in the air. There were many electric bombs and fire blasts exploding in the air as some of the officers were catapulted in the air, screaming.
"Hey, the cavalry's here!" Anne cried. "Hey, is that Gary?"
"Tony?" Ivan frowned.
"Sally?" Marlena retorted.
"Brady!" Drew cheered.
Brady then punched another man in the face as he then grabbed another man and bashed him in the face. Drew then threw a huge boulder down from the ledge and it fell down on another officer, crushing him. Ivan then looked away while dropping a brick on another cop.
"Sorry, sorry."
Anne then took out a machine gun as she aimed it right at another group of cops aiming their bazookas at the cathedral.
"Okay, here goes nothing," she muttered as a rocket soon grazed right by her and she jumped. The rocket then exploded into pieces and the force of the blast caused her to lose control of the machine gun as she nearly fell over the ledge. It dropped out of her hands and soon tumbled down the cathedral wall.
"Uh oh," she muttered as the machine gun began spewing bullets everywhere and it flew right out of the sky, causing Anne to duck for cover. Many of the police officers were soon riddled by them and dropped down to the ground.
"Are you sure that is even remotely realistic?" Ivan frowned as he asked Anne while the two watched the spectacle.
"Works for me," Anne shrugged with a laugh.
"Fly, my pretties, fly," Marlena whispered as she summoned the birds and laughed evilly. The birds then descended down upon the cops and began to assault them as they soon began running wildly to evade them.
The officers continued to bash through the door with a ram as the door began to give way.
A red male experiment then started shooting plasma into a large cauldron while Ivan, Marlena, and Anne helped some of the other experiments carry it towards the edge. They soon pushed it down as it tipped over and began spilling huge gallons of plasma down the cathedral. The officers soon began to scatter and run while the plasma continued to run down from the building.
Randy then snuck into the cathedral with a gun in hand as he got inside. Just as he did, Father Matt came around the corner and accosted him.
"Randy! Have you gone mad?! I will not tolerate this assault on the House of God!" he yelled as Randy soon stormed up to him and shoved him down. Father Matt then fell down on his side and glanced up weakly.
"The hunchback and I have some unfinished business to attend to and this time you will not interfere," he said as he got into another room and closed the door shut, locking it. He then went over to see Drew.
A door then opened up as Drew appeared with a joyful smile on his face as he beckoned over to her. "Natalie, look! We're fighting back! Come and see!"
He then noticed that Natalie wasn't moving as he walked over to her and gazed at her worriedly. "Natalie?"
He then took out a ladle and scooped up some water and poured it over Natalie's lips, but it just dripped over her cheek.
Drew then dropped the ladle in horror as he soon realized that Natalie was dead. He then took her in his arms and cradled her as he began sobbing. Ivan, Marlena and Anne were watching from the doorway as Marlena beckoned the others to follow her and they stepped outside to give the two some privacy.
Drew then continued sobbing and wailing as he continued holding her tenderly in her arms and he buried his face in her shoulder. Randy then emerged into the room as he quietly snuck up to Drew and stood behind him. He then put his hand on his shoulder as Drew glared at him, with tears streaking down his face.
"You killed her."
"It was my duty, horrible as it was," Randy explained. He then took out a dagger from behind him and prepared to stab him. "Now, my dear, dear Drew, your pain will soon end and you'll be able to join her before you know it."
Drew then glanced up to see a shadow of Randy holding the dagger up in the air and fear shot through his heart. He then lunged at Randy as the two men began fighting over the dagger. Drew then stared at Randy with terror in his eyes as Randy tried to plunge the dagger into the man he once considered his son. Drew then grabbed the dagger and tossed Randy towards the wall as he fell onto the ground.
Drew then walked up to him angrily with the dagger now in his hand as Randy looked up at him nervously.
"N-now, Drew, just take it easy and listen to me…"
"No you listen!" Drew screamed angrily as he dropped the dagger. "All my life you've told me that the world was a dark, cruel, evil place, but now I see the only thing cruel and evil about it is people like you!"
"Drew?" Natalie whispered softly as Drew raced over to her and held her joyfully. "Natalie, you're okay!"
"She lives," Randy snarled as he took out a semi automatic rifle.
"NOOOO!" Drew yelled as he and Natalie raced out of the room and raced through the balcony. Randy then chased after them while he started shooting at them. Drew and Natalie soon hid behind the wall and panted heavily in fear.
"What now?" Natalie hissed quietly as Drew glanced over to the ledge. "We can swing down from the gargoyles and get out of the bell tower?"
"Are you crazy? We could die!" Natalie cried in horror.
"Well, do you have a better plan?" Drew rolled his eyes scornfully.
"Yeah, let's go with your plan," Natalie sighed.
Randy then walked through the balcony with the gun in his hand as he saw a row of gargoyles before him. He then slowly moved over to the ledge and looked down. Randy then saw Drew holding Natalie and hanging down from a gargoyle by one hand.
"Leaving so soon?" Randy smirked evilly as he shot at them and Drew swung from gargoyle to gargoyle.
One of the cops noticed what was going on and pointed up at the cathedral. "Look up there!"
Drew was dangling from another gargoyle as Randy fired another shot at them. He missed and instead made a dent into the stone. Natalie clung to Drew for dear life as she screamed loudly. "Drew, do something!"
Drew then swung towards another gargoyle as Natalie grabbed onto the ledge and climbed up. She then climbed onto the balcony and stood up as she glanced up to see Randy advancing towards her with his rifle.
"Now it's time to deal with you once and for all, you little pesky witch," he sneered as he aimed his weapon at her.
Natalie then screamed as Drew hurtled right at Randy and tackled him just as the gun went off. Drew then flinched as a huge pool of blood appeared on his shoulder and Randy pointed the barrel of the gun at his forehead.
"I should've known you would try to save that gypsy witch, just as your own mother tried to save you," Randy growled darkly as Drew gasped in horror. "What?"
"And now I'm going to do what I should've done – 20 years ago!" Randy declared as he threw his cape at Drew and attempted to smother him. Drew then yanked backward violently in response as Randy is thrown off the ledge and hung onto the gargoyle for dear life. Drew then tips over the ledge and nearly falls down several feet below the ground.
"Drew!" Natalie screamed as she slid over to him and grabbed his hand tightly, trying not to drop him. "Hang on!" At this point Drew had fallen unconscious and was dangling lifelessly over the cathedral.
Randy then climbed onto the gargoyle and then slowly stood up, raising his gun right at Natalie's head. He then aimed it at her, laughing evilly. Natalie then turned around and gasped as she saw that he was going to shoot her right in the head.
"And he shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the fiery pit!" he declared boldly as his eyes burned with a look of demonic hatred. But then he stumbled as the gargoyle gave way and was cracking open right before his eyes. Randy then grabbed onto the gargoyle as it glowed a hellish pale of yellow at him.
"Time to die, you miserable fool," it growled in a low, gravelly voice as Randy screamed at the top of his lungs and the gargoyle soon snapped off. Randy then kept on screaming loudly as he tumbled right into the burning lava and disappeared down below.
"Drew, hang on please, Drew," Natalie whispered as her grip was slipping quickly on the young man and it was not long before he started tumbling down towards the burning lava below too.
"Drew!" Natalie yelled as Drew began his descent towards death.
But luckily Brady popped in and caught Drew just in time. "Gotcha!" he yelled as he carried him to safety.
"Brady!" Natalie yelled as she raced over to Brady and she jumped into his arms. Brady then hugged her back and they looked at each other lovingly.
"I thought you were dead," he said as Natalie smiled. "Drew saved me."
Brady then looked at Drew and smiled at him. "Thanks."
"It's all over. We can be together now," Natalie said and Brady nodded. "Yeah."
He then looked over at Drew with an anxious frown and Drew smiled. "It's okay, dude."
He then grabbed both of their hands and intertwined both of them together. "You have my blessing."
Brady and Natalie then exchanged looks before they embraced and kissed.
Brady and Natalie then stepped out of the cathedral and were met with a huge round of applause. Yaarp then galloped over to Natalie and jumped into her arms, hugging her. Natalie then hugged him back as Brady petted him. Yaarp then beeped his horn softly as Brady got startled and he offered him a toothy grin. "It's good to see you too, buddy."
The cheering then suddenly stopped as Natalie swerved around to look inside the cathedral and held out her hand towards him. Drew then looked at her apprehensively and took her hand as she gently led him out of the building. Drew then stepped out into the sunlight as he scanned the entire crowd before him. The townspeople then studied him very closely yet cautiously as they are at a loss on how to deal with him.
It was then that Allie walked over towards him with an anxious expression as she looked at Drew. For a couple of brief minutes she stared at him with a puzzled face, not sure how to react to him. She then grabbed his face and gazed at it silently. But then she smiled and embraced him, shocking Drew. Drew then smiled as he hugged her back.
The crowd then broke into yet another applause as they advanced towards Drew and held him up.
Rory then announced, "Three cheers for Drew Castle!"
The crowd then cheered some more as they started carrying Drew through out the town.
So here is a riddle to guess if you can
Sing the bells of St. Luke
Who makes the monster and who makes the man?
The experiments then cheered as they broke out mugs of beer and began drinking together.
Anne then started blowing out a loud whistle as Marlena slapped her on the upside of the head, causing her to groan.
Drew then turned back to gaze at Brady and Natalie as the pair looked at each other and Brady scratched Yaarp's tummy.
Drew continued to be carried by the crowd as he waved over to the gargoyles.
Sing the bells, bells, bells, bells
Whatever their pitch
You can feel them bewitch you
The rich and ritual keels
The bells… of… St. Luke!
The camera then pans up to the bell tower where a flock of birds soon settle upon Anne and she throws her arms in a furious fit.
"Don't you morons ever migrate! Why don't you go pick on her for a change?!" Anne yelled as she pointed at Marlena, causing her and Ivan to burst out laughing. The camera then zooms out of the cathedral and soon heads up towards the sky.
Epilogue:
The scene fades in and out to reveal a huge storybook as it soon opens up and flips through the many pages. The book then reaches the very end as various pictures are displayed to show what happens to the characters in the end.
The town of Salem soon gradually becomes accustomed to Drew's presence as they no longer were afraid of his mere presence. Drew finally achieved his life long dream, which was to live and be regarded like any other human being.
Unfortunately, he has so far not found the girl of his dreams, but perhaps that may someday change. As for Brady and Natalie, they have spent many happy years together and ended up having three children, two girls and a boy named Tosca, Farah and Moses.
Brady was eventually restored to the police department and reached the rank of Commander. He soon helped purge the department of corruption and vice, which greatly improved the police force's reputation in the town.
Yaarp also found a fellow female experiment to mate with and soon had five pups with her, namely two girls and three boys. The experiment and gargoyle populations soon mixed as a new subspecies emerged, and there are rumors that if you go down into the Court of Miracles at night, you can hear some strange sounds coming down from the catacombs.
Who knows what new adventures Drew and his friends will encounter? Tune in next time for the next installment of "The Hunchback of Salem!"
