Have fun everyone! Enjoy!
It had been an unnecessarily cold night that night, with even worse weather adding to the night's dreary atmosphere. A thunderstorm was approaching, a storm that no one would want to be caught up in. Tonight was a night that people would rather be curled up warm in bed or next to a fire.
The same could not be said about a certain pair of brothers. Since running away they had faced their fair share of bad luck, the luck of the black cat rubbing off on them each day. As shapeshifters, they couldn't help but laugh at the irony that they were facing the expected luck of their later form.
The black cat, the very epitome of back luck. For most anyway. Because of this people didn't take too kindly to them if their abilities were revealed but it was an easy secret to keep hidden. But finding a place to stay with their luck was harder than most. They had been travelling for weeks with no avail, but they kept their hopes up...well one of them did.
"Come on Felix I can see light from here"
"Really Adrien what gives you any hope that we will be able to stay here" The younger twin huffed.
"Have a little faith brother, surely we'll have a little luck here..." Felix not having it in him to crush his brother's hope and being exhausted from the run and weather just nodded and continued their run into the town. He still couldn't quite hold his breath, people didn't take kindly to outsiders.
Once they reached the outskirts of the town they stopped for a moment to catch their breath and take a closer look at the town. It didn't look very big but it was bigger than some others they had seen. From what they could see through the hazardous weather, there was a small bakery, a school building and an inn among other buildings.
The inn was the exact place they needed to go. Felix pulled his brother along who was having trouble fighting the storm, his cat tendencies made him prone to hating rain but never quite water in general. Dragging him through the rain they reached the doorstep of the inn and begrudgingly walked inside.
"Hello? Anyone here?" The two waited in silence until a young blonde girl around their age walked up to them.
"Good heavens are you two alright, you must be freezing" the girl rushed and gave them both towels and blankets, the boy great fully taking them trying to keep themselves warm. They looked around and noticed that the building appeared much bigger than it first looked, but they couldn't see the full extent of the building through the rain and wind.
"Thank you, ma'am, but where are we?"
"You're welcome and this quiet little town is Paris, welcome" (This is not a representation of the real Paris, I'm just using the name)
"I've never heard of this place before" Adrien managed to cough out. The girl seemed to smile and crossed her arms.
"Well we are a small town quite out of the way of everyone else, to be honest, you don't surprise me" The boys nodded and Adrien only curled into himself and his brother even more. An action that was not unnoticed by Felix.
"Excuse me, miss...?"
"Zoe"
"Miss Zoe, could you please put us up with a room tonight? We have money" The boy smirked. Before he had run off with his brother he made sure to steal a good handful of money from their father. Rich bastard.
"You're lucky it's me tonight and not my mother and sister, while my sister has come to see the error of her ways as of recent but she still can't help but listen to my mother. Much to my stepfather's and myself's delight...I would be happy to put you up with a room, follow me" The two followed behind Zoe and upstairs. They walked down the hall and into a room with two beds, it looked well-kept but didn't seem to have been used in a long time.
"This room should be fine, right?" Felix nodded and help Adrien over to the bed, then turned around to the innkeeper once more.
"Thank you, this will do quite nicely. I don't suppose you have a dry change of clothes for us do you?" Zoe took a moment to think, left the room and walked down the hall, leaving them in the room alone. After a minute or two, the girl returned with two sets of new clothes and handed them to the older twin.
"These should fit you...more or less, they should at least work until morning" Felix thanked her once more and handed them to his very tired brother before helping him up and pushing him behind a changing wall. Thankfully he was conscious enough to understand what he was saying and to change himself.
"Ok, so how much will this cost us?"
"Well, normally I'm meant to charge twenty gold for the room alone" Felix's eyes also bulged out of their sockets. That was far too much money that was practically robbery. Zoe could see his expression and shook her head.
"Don't worry that's what my mother and perhaps reluctantly my stepfather but I'll only charge ten, that will cover the room, use of the commodities and the clothes, does that sound fair?" Felix nodded, that sounded fair enough to him. After giving Zoe the gold Adrien emerged from the changing wall and almost instantly collapsed. Thankfully Felix was fast enough to catch him.
"Oh my god, Adrien are you ok there? Adrien" The boy didn't respond aside from a grunt of discomfort. Felix picked him up and placed him in bed, making sure he was warm and comfortable. He placed his palm to his forehead and almost instantly recoiled at the heat of his skin.
"He has a fever" Felix started to worry, he had no idea what to do in a situation like this, and he had no idea what Adrien's magic might do now he was this sick.
"Poor thing, we have an excellent healer here...if you don't mind magic practices" This caught the boy's attention instantly, it wasn't often someone would speak so openly about magic.
"What?"
"Unlike most towns, we don't discriminate against magic users. Some are jealous but that's about it, how about you?"
"I couldn't care less to be perfectly honest, I feel it is more important to judge by character rather than power. My brother agrees" Zoe smiled at this.
"Good to know, Marinette is the name of the sorceress, she's a good healer and the daughter of the bakers. She's also the one who made those clothes" Felix looked down at the clothes Adrien wore.
"Good craftsmanship"
"Indeed, I can go fetch Marinette at daybreak tomorrow, she'd be more than happy to help" Felix nodded and bid Zoe goodnight as she walked out of the room, leaving the boys alone once more. Felix walked over to his brother and checked him over again, he seemed stable but he knew nothing of medical knowledge.
All he knew was that Adrien's condition gave him anxiety, because of the potential of revealing their identity. Regardless of what Zoe said, he didn't want to make any risks. But he also feared Adrien's condition due to the unwanted memories. It brought back the memories of their mother before and after she died. Her death had almost broken their family, it had made their father cold and once drew a wedge between the two brothers.
Thankfully the two realised that their squabbling and venom-laced words only brought heartache and achieved nothing. With their father growing so cold and heartless they grew to learn that they were all each other had and they couldn't throw that away over a few fights and heartbroken fuelled sorrow. So they had amends.
Felix didn't want to think of losing Adrien too, he couldn't.
"Sir, it's morning"
"Arg mmm"
"Sir, I've brought Marinette" Felix begrudgingly opened his eyes, sleep still evident in his demeanour. Once he sat up the memories of the previous night flooded back to him. With the speed that no man who woke up a minute before jumped out of bed and straight to Adrien's side making Zoe giggled at his antics.
"Don't worry I've been checking on him threw the night, Marinette is just downstairs gathering her things" Felix nodded and pulled up a chair next to his brother's bed and waited patiently for this Marinette to arrive.
"By the way, what's your name? I never got it yesterday" Felix hesitated for a moment, contemplating whether or not he should disclose their real names. She seemed trustworthy enough and they were far enough off the beaten path to not worry about their father. Besides, if news of two blonde twins didn't tip him off, their names probably wouldn't. Felix was convinced their father didn't remember his name.
"Well?" Felix snapped back towards Zoe realising he had just zoned out. She was waiting for his answer.
"Felix, my brother's name is Adrien" Zoe smiled.
"Nice names, I'll go get Marinette, she should be ready now" Felix gave his thanks and nodded in approval. After a few minutes, there was a knock on the door, followed by a petite girl dressed in shades of pink and grey. She also looked around their age and young for her practice. But who was he to judge, he just wanted his brother healed as fast as possible.
"Morning, you must be Felix, right? Zoe filled me in" Marinette walked over to Adrien a kneeled at his bedside. She checked his fever and started checking all his other vitals. She reached into her bag and pulled out a damp cloth that she had prepared earlier and placed it on his forehead to bring the fever down, disturbing Adrien from his sleep.
"So what happened? Why do you think he got sick?"
"Didn't Miss Zoe tell you?" Marinette rolled her eyes.
"I'd rather hear the full story from you, that way I can best pinpoint how to treat him" The blonde sighed, he had no choice. But he wasn't going into detail.
"Me and my brother were travelling from another town, we didn't account for the weather and got caught in the storm. My brother was always more likely to get sick than I was, he never did like the rain" Marinette nodded and went back to pulling remedies from out of her bag. His answer seemed to satisfy her for the time being.
That was until Marinette dropped a question that stunned Felix completely.
"So magic, hmm?"
"What!"
"You both have magic?"
"I don't know what you mean?" Marinette sighed and pointed towards herself and the between the two boys.
"Please don't play dumb, as a fellow magic user I can feel other people's magic abilities. I can't tell what it is though so you don't have to explain it to me...but I think I can guess what it is from your brother" Marinette trailed off giggling. Felix raised a brow and turned towards his brother only to choke on his saliva.
His brother, while still in his human form had somehow managed to sprout cat ears on top of his head. He had completely forgotten his shifting might act up. Felix could only bury his hands, to hide both his embarrassment and amusement. Adrien was always bad at keeping secrets he was just as bad in his sleep.
"Don't worry I won't tell anyone if you don't want me to" The boy thanked her.
"How is he?" He looked back over to his brother, he looked more comfortable than he did the previous night but couldn't be sure.
"He's doing fine, the fever hasn't broken yet but he's stable. His body has been trying to fight the cold and with his magic acting up, he's been using more energy" Marinette reached over to ruffle his hair and the cat ears emerging from his head. A moment after she made contact with his ears they suddenly faded away, returning him to his regular form fully.
"Was that you or him?" She shrugged.
"Don't know, I was going to cloak it so they couldn't be seen but they seemed to disappear on their own but I'm not sure" Adrien become restless and started to stir from his sleep. After a few moments, his eyes started to flutter open and started trying to distinguish the two figures aiding by his bedside. He quickly realised one of those figures was his brother.
"Felix..?" His voice came out almost less than a whisper, they almost didn't hear him. Felix though, hearing his name petted Adrien's arm reassuringly letting him know he was there.
"Morning brother, you scared me there" Adrien nodded but didn't seem fully conscious.
"Sorry...? Can I have water pwease?" Felix laughed at his brother's childish antics. He seemed really out of it but no that he no longer had to worry it was quite amusing.
"Felix, can you get your brother water? I want to ask him some questions before I go" Felix while being hesitant nodded and stood up. Before leaving the room he quickly told Adrien where he was going and ruffled his hair much like how Marinette did earlier. Not long after he left the room.
"Ok, Adrien how are you feeling?" The blonde teen tilted his head towards the unfamiliar voice and his eyes widened when they saw the identity of the voice.
"You're beautiful" Marinette startled whipped her head towards him then shook her head. His eyes were still cloudy and his fever was yet to break. He was delirious.
"Thank you but you're not really feeling well right now" Adrien tried to shake his head. Even in his current state, he could tell she was very pretty. Her hair was blacker than any ink he had seen it seemed to tint blue in the light. It wasn't long and curled like most girls he had met when he was an aristocrat but it only made it more lovely.
It fell beautifully and perfectly at her shoulders and was partly tied back with a little pink ribbon. But her hair wasn't the first thing he noticed about the unknown damsel next to him. The first thing he noticed was her eyes. They were stunning.
They were a deep blue he had never seen he could have sworn if he looked into them anymore he'd get lost in them. He was stunned.
"Who are you?" The damsel smiled at his childish voice.
"I'm Marinette it's nice to meet you, I'm here to help you. I heard from your brother that you're sick" Once she mentioned it, a wave of nausea hit Adrien causing him to curl into himself. Both in an attempt to comfort himself and hide his pain from the girl in front of him, only to fail horribly.
"Are you alright, what's wrong?"
"My tummy and head hurt...feel sick" Marinette nodded and pull a vile out of her bag. She heard from Zoe that he had been coughing all night, it must have caused his stomach muscles to tense up and the nausea wasn't helping anything, the headache must be his fever.
"Here take this, I'll warn you now it doesn't taste very good but it works miracles" Marinette helped him sit up enough to swallow the liquid without choking. Once the remedy touched his tongue the boy instantly puckered at the bitterness, it took all his willpower to not gag at the taste but inevitably swallowed it down. He let out a sigh of relief.
"Good boy wasn't that bad was it" He stifled a small nod and rested his head back on the pillows. He was so tired and already started to feel better from the vile liquid he had just drank. She was right, as bad as that remedy tasted it worked fast. Before he knew it a soothing feeling washed over him, lifting all the pain and discomfort away from his body.
He turned and soon realised it was Marinette, soothing him with...magic? Who would have thought?
"Don't worry, you'll be fine by this afternoon rest now"
Before Adrien knew it he was fast asleep. Marinette giggled at the sight, he must have been so tired. She had done her job well then. By the time Marinette had gathered all her stuff, Felix walked in with the water and fresh pieces of bread, surprised to see his younger twin asleep so comfortably. He looked as if he had never been sick, to begin with.
"Oh Felix you're finally back"
"That I am mademoiselle, but how did you do that?" Marinette smirked and played clueless.
"Do what?"
"Dumb is a bad look for you Marinette, you know what I'm talking about"
"Sorry couldn't help myself, but I didn't do much. I gave him some medicine and used my magic to soothe his pain for a little while, he'll be fine in a few hours, here" Marinette reached into her pocket and pulled out two more viles of purple liquid and handed them to Felix.
"What are these?"
"Medicine to make sure he makes a swift recovery, give him one later when he wakes up and again when he wakes up tomorrow. His sickness will be nothing but a memory by then, but if his condition changes at all feel free to find me. You can find me at the bakery, have a nice day...and tell your brother he is definitely the sweetest sick person I've ever met" With that Marinette left the room with a grin on her face. Leaving a curious Felix with an amused look waiting for his dear younger twin to wake up.
"I wonder what she meant?~"
It was around midday when the younger twin started to wake. His sleep was rudely interrupted by the midday sun peering through the crack in the curtains, perfectly shining through onto his face. Reluctantly he sat up and wiped his eyes, adjusting to the newfound light and finally taking in the room's surroundings. Was he in a hotel? When did that happen?
The boy looked around once more before getting out of bed and grabbed the change of clothes that had been placed at the foot of his bed. It was a black long-sleeved tunic with small green embroidery on the collar, along with dark grey pants and a matching grey jacket. They seemed to be professionally made and expensive. He search for any type of receipt and found a small note folded between the garments.
It read:
These should be a lite more comfortable and suit you better.
~M
Who was M? He couldn't see Felix anywhere in the room but he could see his stuff on the bed next to him so he couldn't be too far. So once he was changed he left the room and walked downstairs to find his brother. It wasn't a hard task because when Adrien reached what he could only guess was a dining area he found his brother talking to two blonde and brunette girls and a boy wearing glasses. All of which looked around their age.
"Felix?" Said boy turned towards the sound of his name and smiled at the sight of his brother being up and about. The remedy really worked wonders after all. He gestured over for his brother to join them before he said anything and once he sat down he continued speaking.
"Good afternoon sleeping beauty, did you have a nice nap?" Adrien blushed at the stupid nickname but nodded regardless.
"I slept as well as one could...would you care to tell me where we are exactly?"
"Welcome to the Grand Paris Hotel, it's nice to meet you properly Adrien" the blonde girl who answered, extended her hand which Adrien gladly accept, regardless of not knowing a thing about this mystery girl or the other occupants of the room. Seeing the boy's confusion the girl introduced them.
"Sorry, you must be confused you weren't exactly in the best state yesterday. My name is Zoe Lee, I'm the stand-in Inn keeper of this establishment and these two are Alya Cesaire and Nino Lahiffe" The girl pointed to the two respectively.
"Hi"
"Nice to meet you" Adrien shook their hands and introduced himself as well.
"Likewise, I'm Adrien"
"Are you feeling better brother? No more temperature?" Felix reached over and placed his palm on Adrien's forehead happy to find the result. His fever had indeed broken and he didn't seem to be showing any other symptoms of his sickness, except for some mild confusion and blank memories from the previous night.
"Yeah, I'm feeling...better? I honestly don't remember much I didn't even know I was sick, what happened?" His brother explained the events of the previous night and how he had ended up getting sick in the storm. He mentioned how they had come across the inn where Zoe, who he now knew was the inn keep had let them stay and called over a healer early this morning.
"By the way, take this" Felix thrust the small vile towards him as Zoe passed over what Adrien guessed was a cup of tea. Raising a brow, Adrien reluctantly brought the vile to his lips only to bring it away from him with supernatural speed. It tasted terrible, was his brother trying to poison him? What had he done? Was Felix still bitter about the wine incident?...well whatever it was he couldn't be much more bitter than this liquid.
"What in the hell was that!"
"Oh stop being such a baby it's just medicine, I know it tastes...bad? But it's to make sure your cold is out of your system...so take it" Felix emphasised the final few words of his sentence in a threatening tone even Adrien knew not to mess with so reluctantly Adrien gulped it down in one shot followed by the tea Zoe handed him.
Once both liquids had gone down Adrien flopped his head onto the table like the dramatic king he was as Felix chuckled, patting his back as some form of reward. A reward that Adrien thought sucked!
"There there it can't hurt you anymore...not until tomorrow morning" The boy sounded way too happy as if giving terrible-tasting food and drink to his brother was the best form of entertainment. Adrien could only hold back his internal tears and weakly nodded as he pouted into his arms.
"Why~ brother? Why do you hate me?"
"I don't know. I'll get back to you on that one" Fake tears started pouring down Adrien's face as he continued to pout into his arms. He should have known his sarcastic sassy brother would respond like that and he knew full well his brother wasn't actually trying to poison him.
If he was going to do that he would have done that years ago.
"Alright but all jokes aside what was that? It tasted awful"
"As I said it was medicine Marinette gave me to give you, it broke your fever in no more than a few hours" Now Adrien was confused again. Who was Marinette?
"Marinette?"
"She's the healer that saw you" Felix was quite abruptly cut off by Alya who all but flung herself across the table.
"She is also the best designer in all of Paris, an amazing baker and just so happens to be my best friend. She just so happens to have made the clothes both you and hissy fit are wearing right now"
"Hissy fit?" Alya ignored the older brother's complaints about his so-called nickname and continued to gush over her best friend as Adrien's brain started to process all the information Alya was throwing at him. He had never heard someone speak so fast and about the same topic...well she was talking about different Marinette-related topics so it technically counted.
M on the note must have stood for Marinette. Adrien looked at the clothes he wore and admired the craftsmanship once more, he was right they were professionally made but he didn't expect them to have been done by someone his age. They even looked personalised. She must have gone home and picked clothes specifically for him and Felix.
"She has good taste"
"I know right" Adrien tried to think back to the previous night when she was treating him and found that he couldn't remember a thing...except for a soothing feeling and deep blue eyes. She had the prettiest blue eyes. That was all he could remember but it was a start.
"I don't remember a thing, unfortunately, sorry?" He scratched his neck nervously embarrassed he could remember a thing about the girl who helped him so much. He would love to thank her, but he would have to do that later today if he got a chance. Unbeknownst to Adrien, his brother was smirking up a storm unseen in his periphery.
"How rude, you can't remember the girl you deliriously flirted with"
"What!" Everyone at the table screeched, no one louder than Adrien himself. He couldn't believe it. What had he done? What did he do that he couldn't remember?
"What did I do? Felix? You're kidding right?" Felix shook his head and waged his finger, wearing the same sadistic smirk. It was a brother's job to enjoy teasing the other, it was an unwritten rule in brotherhood after all and who was Felix to not follow tradition? Especially when this new material was so good.
"I don't know the details but apparently when she was treating you you started calling her pretty...wait no, you called her and I quote 'beautiful'. Such sweet words for a sick person" All Adrien could do was blatantly stare in horror and embarrassment. How could he be so rude!? What must she think of him, did she think he was some sort of wannabe playboy? Who would just randomly start complimenting someone when deliriously sick?
"What did she say? Did I embarrass her? Does she hate me?" Adrien would have continued to ramble if he wasn't cut off but Alya and Nino. Nino before he could continue talking slapped a hand over Adrien's mouth.
"Dude, calm down"
"Yeah chill, Marinette's not like that and why do you think she'd be offended? Who wouldn't like to be complimented, unless you didn't mean it...did you mean it?"Alya's demeanour suddenly darkened. Adrien quickly learned she was one of the most protective friends he had ever met. It rivalled that of Felix and that was no easy feet.
Adrien took a minute to figure out an answer and finally, he managed to find the words. At least words that hopefully wouldn't get him killed.
"I...to be honest I don't remember what she looks like, as we established I was so sick I was delirious...but I remember her eyes being really pretty, they were...captivating" The boy trailed on and whispered the end of his sentence under his breath so only he could hear. It seemed like his response was found satisfactory since Alya returned back to her normal happy self only happier. Before Adrien knew it Felix and Alya walked over to him and dragged him out of his seat.
"Ah! Wait what are you doing?"
"Helping"
"I'm sure Marinette would be happy to see you, you should go thank her and show her that you're recovering. Plus the inn needs some more bread, to birds one stone"
"Wait what?"
"Get bread, meet Marinette, simple. Have fun brother see you" And with those final words Adrien was pushed off the door and had it snipped behind him. He had no choice but to listen and find Marinette...there was only one issue.
"Where am I going?"
While the town looked small when he first arrived the town was in no way small. It was by far one of the biggest towns he had seen since he ran away. And because of the size of this town he had somehow managed to get lost, stuck wandering around the town until he found any sign of the bakery. He had tried asking for directions a few times actually but he was terrible with directions.
Or they were really bad at directions...
He couldn't really blame anyone though, everyone seemed to be so close so they most likely never needed to give anyone directions. So now he was stuck seemingly on the outskirts of the town completely lost looking for any sign of the bakery or the inn. He had been walking around for about two and a half hours now and could practically hear Felix now laughing and/or scolding him for managing to be so useless with directions.
This is why Felix was trusted with the maps. Felix always said that if Adrien was given the map he would walk them in a circle and right back to their father's mansion.
No Adrien couldn't bring himself to deny that because even he had to say it was most likely true. He walked around the outskirts of the town for another few minutes before deciding to head back into the town and hopefully retrace his steps. Since he's been gone so long they would most likely let him in now, but he would have to face the shame and embarrassment of getting lost rather than finding the girl who helped him. Finally out of exasperation he let out a shout as he flung his arms into the air.
"God dammit, only I can manage to get this lost!"
"Perhaps but it could be worse, no?" He heard a girl's laughter behind him and turned towards the sound, surprised by who he saw. A girl around his arm with dark mid-length hair just surpassing her shoulders, dressed in a pastel pink and grey dress along with a dark grey cloak adorning her shoulders. But what caught his attention the most were her eyes.
Bright and full of life and the most beautiful shade of blue he had ever seen...
"Marinette? It is you?" The girl giggled once more before reaching to shake his hand.
"That's me, nice to meet you properly Adrien. I trust you're feeling better?" Adrien grabbed her hand but instead of shaking it brought it to his lips and gave it a quick kiss, a small smirk adorning his face as her face blushed a light pink. Little did he know his cheeks rivalled hers.
"All thanks to you milady, it's a pleasure" She smiled sweetly as she withdrew her hand. She was honestly quite surprised to see the mysterious blonde wandering around the outskirts of town but she was happy to see him. She was going to go visit him tomorrow anyway to make sure his condition had improved. He just made her job easier.
He looked much better, he no longer had bags under his eyes and no longer had a dangerously pale face. Instead, his face was full of colour and bright eyes shining with life. Now that she could see him he looked quite handsome, with beautiful blonde hair and green eyes she could only compare to emeralds. But most importantly he looked healthy. He also didn't seem as delirious anymore. But what was he doing here?
"Not that I'm not happy to see you, but what are you doing here? It's a little far from the inn don't you think?"
"Well about that...I was looking for the bakery to find you and...kinda got really lost" The two stood in silence for a moment before Marinette broke into uncontrollable laughter needing to hunch over and hold her sides in pain. Before Adrien knew it he joined in leaving the two a laughing mess. Marinette recovered and wiped a stray tear from her eye before asking Adrien a question.
"How did you get so lost? My bakery is barely a ten-minute walk from the inn, it's a light grey and red coloured building with a giant sign saying 'bakery'! How did you miss it?" Adrien only stood there trying to remember the town's surroundings as he walked here. Now he thought back he remembered seeing a store that fit that description but didn't recall the sign...
"I...yeah I have no excuse I don't remember and have no idea how I managed to walk this far...what about you? What are you doing out here?" The girl gestured towards her bag and pulled out a few flowers and herbs for what he could only assume was for medicines and baking. She explained how she would come out to the nearby forest and find any medicinal herbs she could find should anyone need them. Someone like him.
Sure healing magic could do wonders but nothing did better than traditional medicine, especially when someone was sick. As the two started walking back to town and two found themselves talking freely with one another, both surprised with how easy it was to talk with each other. They talked about anything they could think of, from interests to talents and even one of the most secretive topics.
"Really magic is actually accepted here?"
"Yep honestly most people here have some form of magic, some are born with it and some learn even the most...difficult people accept it" Adrien was more than surprised. All his life people had shunned anyone different, which is the biggest reason why they kept his powers secret. Even his father seemed to shun magic and his sons were naturally gifted with it.
"That's...incredible, I've never been somewhere people are so accepting"
"I know right, we're kinda special, aren't we...Cat Noir" This nickname could Adrien by surprise.
"Cat Noir...you know?"
"Yeah I found out when you were sick, because you were sick your magic started acting up you somehow managed to sprout cat ears" Adrien covered his face once again in horror as he tried to recall the event. His heart had gone through so much in the time frame of two days how was he to survive anymore? Marinette noticed this and patted his back in reassurance and comfort.
"Why me?"
"Hey hey, it's ok it was funny and quite adorable" Adrien withdrew his hands with tinted cheeks, wearing a pout on his face.
"Really?"She nodded.
"Yes, yes I do. Honestly, you should have your ears out more often, they suit you...if you want to of course" Marinette trailed off her idea realising how weird and rude it sounded. Felix had told her they wanted to keep their powers secret and here she went asking Adrien to reveal his cat features in public. She usually wasn't this so compulsive but something about being around her new blonde friend made her lose any form of mental filter.
Before Marinette could continue swimming around in her thoughts she heard Adrien chuckle drawing her out of her head. Adrien without stopping ran his hand through his hair and shook his head as his ears magically appeared atop his head, his hair seemingly becoming more dishevelled and messy. In Marinette's opinion, messy hair suited him better.
"There! What do you think? Aren't I the cat's meow?" The two once again stood in silence until they both broke into uncontrollable laughter.
"Really? The cat's meow?" He smirked.
"What? Cat got you're tongue?" Marinette all but died internally at the boy's words. She couldn't believe someone really cracked cat jokes and puns like Adrien just did, but at the same time, nothing Adrien was saying seemed forced. Meanwhile, Adrien was thinking the same thing. He had grown up his entire life feeling forced to look and act perfect and have the aura of nobility constantly follow him. He could only really be himself around his mother and Felix.
But here comes this random girl who completely breaks any barriers or control he had. Something about Marinette made him feel comfortable. Sure she was laughing at him but it didn't seem mocking, she seemed confused yes but nothing more. It felt nice.
The two continued their chat through the town, talking about whatever came to mind. From daily life to secret talents to even future dreams, nothing seemed hard to talk about with them. Adrien learned that Marinette had worked in the bakery with her parents since she was old enough to walk and that even though she was a master herbalist she always dreamed of being a designer. Making all sorts of clothes was one of her favourite hobbies.
It explained how she had all these spare clothes lying around.
And Marinette learned that Adrien and Felix had grown up sheltered and neglected ever since their mother passed away. She learned that because of this Adrien never really thought about having a new or future goal until recently, which was to be a teacher. He had always loved trying to teach Felix and his mother random things he learned in books and even found himself quite good at it. Before the two knew it they had reached Adrien's original destination and the two both walked inside so Marinette could grab him some bread for his troubles.
He looked around the bakery and noticed how cosy it looked. It somehow looked even nicer than the inn and he was just standing in a bakery. Marinette returned with some loaves of bread and jars of jam and honey. She handed the basket over to Adrien and walked him out the door where they said their reluctant goodbyes.
"It's been I wonderful afternoon Adrien, thank you for keeping me comfortable" Adrien blushed and shook his head.
"No it's me who should be thanking you, otherwise I think I would still be stuck in the forest. Thank you for everything you've done, I have no idea how I could repay your kindness" Adrien watched as Marinette bit her lip, she looked deep in thought as if pondering his question. Right as Adrien was about to turn and take his leave Marinette grabbed his arm and Adrien spun around to face her.
"Yes?"
"I know how you can repay me" He perked up and waited for her response. She took a deep breath and glanced up at him, their eyes making contact. The two completely ignored the rising heat and redness of their cheeks. After what seemed like years of comfortable silence Marinette spoke up with a flirty grin having found her confidence.
"Take me on a date tomorrow" Adrien gulped but matched her flirty tone as best he could.
"I would be honoured but I hardly know the town well enough don't you think?"
"Alright allow me to take you on one, do you find that agreeable?" He nodded trying his best to hide his ecstatic happiness, while failing horribly.
"I do find that agreeable, I'll come to pick you up tomorrow morning then?"
"Of course, see you then kitty" before Marinette lost her newfound confidence she reached up on her tiptoes and placed a small kiss on his cheek then rushed back into the bakery giving him a small wave before closing the door, leaving the boy stunned. A minute or two later the boy turned on his heels and started walking back to the inn but not before celebrating in the most obvious way possible.
"Yes!" Adrien jumped around pumping his arms into the sky while spinning around like a lunatic. He hadn't been this excited in months and it was over a girl! His mother told stories of finding love and romance one day but never thought he'd find anything like that. But after today he might just have found it.
Marinette was...well she was special. She was amazing and by far the most talented person he had ever met. She was an excellent healer and just as talented as a designer. She was also the most beautiful girl he had ever met. Everything about her just radiated natural beauty. From her hair to her eyes, to Adrien she was stunning. But most importantly she was kind.
She had more kindness in her pinky finger than most had in their entire body. He had only known her for a day but knew from everything he had heard and just being around her he knew it was true. She was kind, resourceful, beautiful, and talented he could go on for hours just mentally praising Marinette and couldn't care less.
She made him feel a way that he had never felt before. With her, he felt completely comfortable, like he could share anything and everything with her and it had only been a day. With her, he felt like he could let go of everything from his past and any expectations that had once been placed upon him.
With her, he could feel free
"Yes, yes, yes, yes!" Adrien could help but think...he might be in love!
"I can't wait to tell Felix!"
Unbeknownst to Adrien, Felix didn't need to be told anything. He had been watching over his brother the entire time, like he always had been. Now perhaps he didn't have to look over him anymore, now he had Marinette. Well...he would always be there if Adrien should need him.
He would always be there for his little brother as he would always be there for him. He was happy.
"Well done brother, I can't wait to hear all about it"
I am finally finished! This story took longer than I had expected but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. But to be completely honest this story went completely off what I originally planned so I'm both happy and a little disappointed. Personally, I love the idea that Felix would be a protective brother but unfortunately, that is not what we got in the canon...so far??
I hope you enjoyed this story and have a nice Halloween! Bye!
