Chapter 1

The summer holidays had just finished meaning it was the first day of school (or most commonly known as hell). Eddie Lawson was not really looking forward to it due to all the drama that had happened last year but he knew he had to go back as after all he is a teacher. Due to being one of the first to enter the school grounds he was forced to be by the front doors to welcome back the students after the days of bliss (for some) which had been the summer holiday. Luckily he was not alone by the front doors but instead with Jasmine Koreshi a fairly new colleague and friend.

One by one all the students walked through the doors rushing to get their classes before they were late. Luckily both Eddie and Jasmine had no classes for the first period allowing them to stay by the doors waiting for the stragglers of kids who were late. Things were going smoothly until one ruffled up kid ran into them. That kid was none other than Paul Langley, a quiet kid who was quite well known amongst teachers. As Eddie look down at the kid about to scold him for being late, he got a closer look at the him. One thing for sure was that he didn't like what he saw one bit. Paul looked alarmingly skinny with his shirt hanging off his shoulder's, with deep dark eye bags under his fearful, tired eyes and skin which looked dull and pale almost lifeless. If that wasn't a cause of concern already, Eddie could swear he saw a nasty bruise just below the collar of Paul's shirt. As the seconds ticked slowly by his concern for Paul grew more and more, and so did the tension.

Suddenly, breaking the tension like a sharp knife, Paul asked "Can I go in then sir, seeing as I am already late enough ?" Eddie just stood there as question after question concerning Paul bombarded his head, Jasmine took notice of this so before the tension built up even more she replied in Eddie's place. "Sure Paul hurry on through but try not to be so late in the future". Paul replied with a simple nod before rushing off into the school.

Once the boy was fully out of sight, they stood there still and silent trying to process what they had just saw. A once healthy boy, now looked ill and drastically skinny, seeming worse for wear to say the least. After standing there for what felt like an age Eddie broke the tension by saying "Did you just see that ?", referring to the way Paul looked. Finally snapping out of the trance she was in Jasmine replied in a shaky voice "Yes, he looked dreadful. Do you think he is ok?". Being unsure Eddie responded "I'm not sure, but I think we better keep a close eye on him". That's when the bell rang signalling second period, knowing she was late Jasmine ran off to her first lesson of the day. Just before she was fully out of sight, Eddie caught her attention by shouting "but let's not mention anyone else until we know what's going on for sure, yeah ?". Jasmine gave a quick "ok" and nod before running off fully out of sight.
