Broken
There was no other way to say it. Mako just felt broken, as he just sits on a bench in the middle of Republic Park as he reflects on recent events, ore more specifically, a certain Avatar and dark haired CEO.
FLASHBACK
Recently Korra and Asami had returned from a vacation in the Spirit World and revealed that they had fallen in love and are together. Everyone such as Bolin and Opal were happy and very supportive of the couple, but Mako didn't know how to take this news at first, but after a while his face slowly became sullen. Korra noticed this and tried to talk to him.
"Mako" Korra said. "I…I'm sorry about this. It's just happened and…". She was silenced abruptly by Mako raising his uncast hand up and everyone was silent waiting for his response.
Mako started to speak "Look. I'm not really sure how to react to this but…right now I can't even stand to look at you". Korra and Asami just stood there with hurt expression as Bolin, Opal, and the others stood there in waiting. "I honestly have no problem with two girls dating each other, but when those two girls happen to be my exes, all it does is remind me of how much I screwed up." Mako's eyes started to water a bit as he took a breath and continued. "Was I really that bad?".
Korra and Asami's eyes widened as they tried to explain. "No! No…Mako". Asami said with sadness in her voice. "This was not because of you, we just spent time together and took care of each other until…". Mako just scoffed
Mako then started to walk away from the portal as the others tried to stop him. "Bro". Bolin says as he tried to put a hand on his brothers shoulder but Mako gently shook it off as he look back towards the new couple. "Look I just need some space. I'm not sure if I'm entirely ok with this and I don't know what to do when I look at you two. Just leave me alone"
Asami moved forward to try and stop him. "Mako please. You're still one of our closest friends and our group isn't complete without you". Korra just stopped her girlfriend with a firm grip on her shoulder. "He just needs some space", but even she was unsure if Mako would ever come around. Mako just kept on walking, unsure about where he was heading.
BACK TO PRESENT
Mako just continued to look blankly into the distance until he noticed a shadow coming towards him. He looked up to see a young man with long fancy yet unkempt hair, clean shaven face and piercing green eyes that were scary but tantalizing to look at. He wore a black trench coat over a plain black shirt with formal pants and a pair of standard walking shoes. He walked over to Mako and spoke to him.
"I've seen that look before. That is the look of a man who had just gotten his heart broken." The stranger said.
Mako just looked at him annoyed. "Look buddy, I'm not in the mood for whatever…"
"No need to get all riled up". The stranger interrupted. "I was just looking to see if I could perhaps join you and maybe we can talk about both of our problems". The stranger reached behind him and pulled out a bottle of Fire Nation whiskey. "Nothing helps dull a heartbreak than alcohol and it's no fun to drink alone."
Mako was about to tell him to take a hike. But after the night he had, a drink sounded pretty good right now.
"Alright". The stranger made a small smile and took the seat next to him. "So you got a name?".
"My friends call me Marius". Marius said as he unscrewed the bottle and pulled out two shot glasses and filled them up. He handed one to Mako and raised it in the air. "To broken hearts".
"Yeah". Mako said. "To broken hearts". They joined glasses and took their shots.
