MAKO'S APARTMENT
As sunlight peaked out from the closed blinds of the window, Mako wakes up with an earth shattering headache and moved to get up as he tried to recollect the moments of last night. He remembered feeling down about Korra and Asami being together, then he remembered Marius and him showing his true face. He simply shrugged it off as a bad dream, but then he noticed something on his bedside table. A necklace, the same one Marius gave him before he passed out. "It wasn't a dream.", Mako whispered to himself before he looked at the clock. "Damn, I'm gonna be late for work". He stopped briefly before taking the necklace and putting it around his neck.
REPUBLIC CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT
Mako had just gotten to his job in the nick of time. As he started to get ready for the day by going to his locker, he heard snickering from behind him and noticed some of his fellow officers grouped up and laughing behind his back, "Something funny?", Mako said with anger in his voice. The cadets simply walked away, Mako just shook it off and left the locker room.
Mako got to his desk and started looking over several case files, he once again heard more laughing behind his back as he saw another group of officers laughing, only this time they had a magazine with pictures of Korra and Asami, but he noticed a picture of him on the corner of the cover. He rushed over to the group and shouted, "Give me that" and then proceeded to read the article.
This just in. Recent developments have been revealed that Avatar Korra and Asami Sato are in a relationship. Our anonymous source tells us that this spicy affair occurred during a trip through the Spirit Portal in the city. What could this mean for the United Nations? Is this a sign of change or just the Avatar making a statement? But the real topic readers are asking about is non other than the hot-headed hottie Mako, former pro bender now Republic City officer. How did he take this news? Was he devastated? Heatbroken? Was he simply not "adequate"? Is this the end of Team Avatar?, more details will follow.
Mako found himself gripping the magazine harder than he should've but the last straw was when one of the officers smirked, "Guess she got tired of you and decided to find a real man, which is apparently a woman!" and started to laugh hysterically with the other officers. At that moment, all of Mako's repressed emotions washed over and then…
SNAP
At that moment, Mako gripped the collar of the cadet and gave him a right hook which knocked him to the ground. Mako got on top and started to lay punch after punch on him while his friends tried to pull him away.
"ENOUGH". Everyone turned to look and saw Chief Lin Beifong standing with her usual emotionless face as she witnessed the brawl. "That is enough of that, everyone get back to work. Mako. My office. Now"
The cadets smirked while Mako trudged his way behind Lin as they made towards her office. "Take a seat" she said. Mako sat down and looked Lin in the face. "It is our duty to keep the citizens of Republic City safe, and we can't do that if our officers are too busy trying to kill each other." Mako simply sighed, "I know, I know. I've just been…".
Lin interrupted him, "I understand where your coming from, I heard about Korra and Asami and how you reacted. I felt the same way when Tenzin and I broke up, I avoided everyone and avoided visiting Air Temple Island even though Bumi and Kya have asked me more than once. It wasn't until my mother confronted me and set me straight that I finally got it."
Mako raised an eyebrow, "Got what".
Lin simply said, "Hate is a heavy burden, choose love instead. Mako just looked down and contemplated. "Look", Lin said, "Go ahead and take the rest of the day off to cool down and compose yourself, I need you in top shape." Mako said nothing and simply left the police station and figure himself out like the chief said.
As he stepped outside the station, Mako took a deep breath and started to consider both Lin and Marius' words. He has already gone through enough already and just wants all this pain and misery to end, but does he go towards his problems or cut himself off? As he thought, a cough interrupted him and he looked behind to see a man reading the same magazine the other officers had been laughing about, the man slowly moved the magazine down to see Marius.
Marius closed the magazine and gestured to Mako, "Well, looks like shit just hit the fan for you." Mako glared at Marius with distain, "My apologies, I was insensitive. You got the day off?"
"Kind of", Mako said, "Some guys were talking smack about me and "words" were exchanged". Marius simply laughed, "I understand that. Have you given any more thought to my offer?"
Mako shrugged. "Some, but I still have so many questions".
Marius grinned and said, "Well come on, we can walk and talk on the way back to your apartment. Mako then gave him a shocked look, "How did…?", "I'm a vampire", Marius interrupted, "I know these things. Now come along". Mako proceeded to walk with Marius and talked over their new partnership.
SATO MANSION
Asami had been recovering from a rough night. After the unfortunate incident with Mako, both her and Korra spent a sleepless night thinking about the friend they hurt. Her thoughts were interrupted when Korra came down and gave her a kiss on the forehead, "Morning", Asami said nothing and went back to breakfast.
Korra turned to face her girlfriend, Are you still thinking about Mako?". Asami simply nodded, "Yeah. I still can't get that look on his face out of my head, he looked so broken."
Korra's usual smile was reduced to a frown, she didn't want anyone to get hurt, but that's not how the world works. "We just need to give him some time and all of this will blow over".
Asami knew she was right. She knew that Mako could be difficult, but he wouldn't hold a grudge, would he? One of the servants came into the room, "Mail for you, Ms. Sato".
Asami thanked her and looked at the assorted pile of letters, but it was the magazine that caught her eye. As soon as she picked it up and read that article, her eyes became wide like plates and her mouth was slightly open as she tried to suppress a cry.
However, Korra had walked back in with a cup of coffee and noticed Asami's face, "Asami? Honey what's wrong?". She took the article out of her hands and read the slandering article. Oh god, did Mako know about this, if he did he'd….
Both Korra and Asami shared a look of acknowledgment. Screw waiting, they needed to find Mako and they needed to find him now.
