We're back with Seven Days of Halloween for the fifth year in a row! Last year we did all crossovers, this year we're doing fandoms that I hadn't written for before 2022. Also, coincidentally, all of the stories this year feature LGBTQ relationships, that was not on purpose lol.
Day 1 (Oct. 25th) - The Mitchells VS. The Machines
Day 2 (Oct. 26th) - Sonic
Day 3 (Oct. 27th) - Victorious
Day 4 (Oct. 28th) - Mythic Quest
Day 5 (Oct. 29th) - Zombies
Day 6 (Oct. 30th) - Our Flag Means Death
Day 7 (Oct. 31st) - Scooby-Doo
It's taken me far too long to write for this fandom, my guilty pleasure fandom if there ever was one.
"Love?" A-spen asked, putting a hand on Willa's shoulder
"Yes, Starlight?" Willa had tested out several different pet names for them before settling on Starlight.
"Have you ever heard of Halloween?"
"No, what is that?"
"It's a human holiday that celebrates the macabre."
"The what?"
"Spooky stuff."
"Well, I've been in Seabrook long enough to know they don't celebrate it here."
"Huh. I wonder why that is. It seems quaint."
"You're quaint," Willa said, smiling lovingly at A-spen, who beamed back.
"Thanks, dearest. Hey, what if we celebrated Halloween this year?"
"Maybe we should find out why it isn't celebrated here first," Willa pointed out.
"Scared?" A-spen teased affectionately.
Willa scoffed, "What? No way. But Seabrook has been a good home for me- for us. I don't mind following some of their weird human customs in return."
"Zed said that before the zombies integrated into Seabrook the town was all kinds of vanilla. Maybe this is just a holdover from the vanilla days."
"Or maybe this town doesn't need anymore scary stuff."
"But you're not afraid, are you?" A-spen asked, leaning real close to Willa's face.
"I'm not scared of anything, Starlight," Willa replied, pulling A-spen in the rest of the way for a kiss.
A-spen shivered in delight.
"I admire your desire to research this more. We can ask Addison in the morning before we make any plans of our own."
"Sounds perfect. See you tomorrow, Starlight."
"See you in my dreams, love."
Willa could never get over how smooth her partner was. Flirting was effortless for A-spen. Willa had said she wasn't afraid of anything and for the most part that was true. But she'd always been a little afraid she wouldn't live up to the love they showed her every single day.
She stayed up most of the night researching Halloween until Wyatt finally convinced her to go to bed.
The next morning, Willa and A-spen met up for a bite of breakfast before they headed to catch up with Addison.
"Hey, what's up? You said you had a question for me?"
"Yeah, we were wondering about a piece of Seabrook history," A-spen explained.
"Oh, sure, I don't know everything but I'm happy to help if I can."
"Why don't you guys celebrate Halloween?"
"Huh. That's a good question."
"So you don't know?" Willa asked, her heart sinking. She'd hoped that there would be a simple explanation that would satisfy A-spen's curiosity.
"I don't. I guess I've never thought about it before. But that could be fun! Now that Seabrook is more diverse we should be exploring other cultures and celebrations."
"So we're doing Halloween?" A-spen asked excitedly.
"I'll talk to my mom about it, make sure there's no mayoral reason we don't celebrate Halloween, and then I'll put something together!"
"We'll help," Willa said, loving A-spen's enthusiasm and wanting to keep it around.
A-spen beamed at her and took Willa's hand in theirs.
"This is going to be so great," Addison said.
"Yeah, it is." Willa squeezed A-spen's hand, not letting either of her co-conspirators know that she was a little nervous about something other than this new holiday.
A-spen was more perceptive than Willa gave them credit for. That had been their job for the longest time, keeping their eyes open and their senses sharp so they could protect the people they cared about. They knew Willa understood that so it always surprised A-spen when Willa forgot that she couldn't hide anything from them.
"I know I was teasing you about it, but it's okay to be nervous about trying something new."
"I'm not-"
"I bet you were nervous when we started dating, too," A-spen said with a small smile. "I get it, I was too."
"I still am," Willa said in a barely audible whisper.
"What was that?"
"I'm still nervous about dating you! And I know it's stupid, I know I shouldn't be, but I am."
A-spen gently gripped Willa's shoulders.
"Hey, it is not stupid. What makes you feel nervous?"
"You're such a romantic, you're so good at gestures and sentiments and feelings and I am not."
"Feelings are still new to me too," A-spen reminded, cupping Willa's face.
"I know, but-"
"No buts, love. I know you have put in so much effort and that it seems like it's effortless for me but it's not. I love you and you love me and that takes work on both sides. But that's work we'll put in together. If you're nervous, we'll be nervous together. If you feel brave, we'll be brave together. You are not in this alone."
Willa pressed her forehead against A-spen's forehead.
"I do love you. I'm sorry if I don't always show that, Starlight."
"But you do. You always have. Wyatt told me you were up last night studying Halloween for me. You spent weeks coming up with a cute nickname because you knew it would mean a lot to me. You have always been nothing but good to me, Willa."
"Well, there was that time I tried to track you down and rip out your innards to protect Seabrook…"
"Yeah, that was really hot."
Willa laughed.
"You are the only one for me, A-spen. Thank you for letting me be nervous. Thank you for being there for me."
"Always." A-spen pulled out an old human phrase they really liked, "I love you to the moon and back."
"I feel the same. And I am really, really excited to celebrate Halloween with you."
"As long as the mayor says we can," A-spen said with a laugh.
"Oh, I'm not afraid of the mayor. We're having Halloween no matter what. Together."
"Together," A-spen agreed, unable to resist pulling Willa in for a kiss.
I ran out of time so I didn't write a conclusion to that Halloween thing, but let's assume that they had a very nice Halloween.
