Wings.
(Wings?)
Didn't he... Break those?
(He flew into a tornado with them. Of course he did.)
No, no, before that. The airbus.
(The airbus! Right! That.)
If he couldn't carry it, Rattlescale couldn't.
He definitely just, broke those? Into bits.
(And then he was human? No wings, no breaks.)
But then it just felt like his spine hurt.
(And the gapple didn't fix it all the way...)
He'd need another before the day was done.
(What was he again?)
He's supposed to be human-
[ORDER RECIEVED]
Reggie woke up with a gasping, rasping cough, checking his body. His spine was in just. Purest agony. His back was crunchy. That was bad. "I don't- Suppose you happened to have nabbed a SECOND gapple?" He asked, looking to Claire.
Miraculously, she nodded. And pulled out the gapple, shoving it in his mouth. He just, devoured the entire thing, he needed the nutrients and the, 'not hurting' juice. His back crackled like popcorn, and he just clung onto Claire. "I- What happened to the town? Did we save it?"
She took a minute to respond. But eventually... "it's. It's gone. They got a lot of people out, but- It's torn up down into the stone beneath the soil. We're gonna have to move. Not everyone survived."
Reggie wasn't... He wasn't on the hills. Where was he? It was a hospital room, it looked like it, and- Someone came in. A doctor, some construct. "Reginald Rolander, yes?"
"My name is Reggie, not Reginald, but yes." He said, scowling a bit.
The doctor nodded. "Apologies. You had, extensive injuries, and you..." The doctor looked up from the clipboard. "Are not a Tengu. Hm, wrong room. Someone else will get your chart, sorry for disturbing you." The doctor left, taking the chart with him.
Reggie sighed. "Gods... Who did make it?"
Claire was flat with her voice. "Most of the school. Kobbsley, Rattlescale, our class. The janitor, but, well, they're the land god, little tornado won't kill them."
Reggie nodded, and got comfy. "When are our parents gonna get here?" He asked, looking to Claire.
"... Let's, wait for Kobbsley to get here." She said, not looking at him.
He shrugged. It was crowded out there, it'd make sense for things to take a while. He closed his eyes...
And was awoken by a gentle poke to the cheek. "Wake up. Kobbsley's, uh..." Claire was still... Weird and quiet, as Kobbsley looked at the two.
"I... If I understand the situation correctly, I cannot thank you two enough. Not everyone survived the horrific vortices, but thanks to you two, more did than didn't."
Reggie nodded. "You are... Welcome! I dunno what caused it, just... Weird rock thing. I ate it. Claire told me how? My head's all funky, gapples cause that right?"
Kobbsley nodded. "Yes, well, there's the issue of, residence now that this is over."
Reggie waved him off. "No, no, it's fine there's- My parents have a plan, I didn't? There was just a lot of noise and oof ouch my bones and- And uh, well, here we are."
"That's- All well and good, you see, but-"
"Where is here? The town hospital probably got all, uh, shmurgled-ey, deffo, so. How about that, huh? Everyone make it out okay?"
"Well, yes, but your parents-"
"When are they getting here by the way? I've been waiting a while."
"Reggie they **aren't coming.**"
"I- What?"
Kobbsley sighed. "They, they didn't make it. They were looking for the crashed skybus, they knew you were on it but they apparently didn't get the news that you'd left after it crashed. The, shards, the debris... I'm sorry, Reggie."
"I- No, no, that's dumb, I'm sorry but that's dumb." He said, standing up- Annoying beepy devices beeping harder as he, just- Extracted himself from the entire situation. "I'm- Claire, they need to look harder or- Or- Do you want to search with me, Claire? Find out what happened?"
For once, Claire stopped being so quiet. "... Finally do something? That's... yeah, sure."
Kobbsley spoke up. "This- Isn't exactly a very good coping mechanism-" But it was too late, Reggie just picked Claire up, went Tengu, and took flight.
Kobbsley groaned. "This is going to be... Such a problem, for everyone."
