With all the bad on the island, you had to find a bright light or else you'd drown. For Maleficent, what kept her from drowning were Borra, Diablo, and Aurora's letters. Sometimes, she'd attempt to write back to her Beastie, but she had to be careful of what she said in case someone was reading the letters on Beast's orders. She wouldn't put it past him.

Beastie filled her letters with stories from the Moors. Just as Maleficent had counted on, Fairy Godmother couldn't enter the lands, leading her to claim that they were dangerous. She, Beast and Leah had all tried to get Aurora to give up the land, but that was one place where her Beastie wouldn't compromise. While she may have compromised in letting Leah hold the title of Queen Mother and be involved in the kingdom's business, she wasn't going to give up the Moors.

Despite Fairy Godmother's words, Aurora had received a couple of requests from some of the few magical beings in Auradon to visit the Moors, and after talking with the Dark Fae they all agreed that no harm would come from it.

Other things Aurora liked to talk about were Pierre, (and oh Maleficent wished that she could see him in more than just the few pictures Aurora sent), and the births that were happening in Auradon. Two of the first notable births happened barely a year after the Isle's formation. Both Queen Rapunzel and Mulan had given birth to healthy baby boys, Prince Emery, and Li Shang Jr.

On that topic, the Isle had also had its first two notable births. Captain Hook's wife, a pirate named Melissa, had given birth to a little girl named Harriet. Hook's first mate had been blessed with a little boy, Sammy, later in the year.

Other than that, not much was happening in either place. The Isle was still the Isle, and Auradon was still "perfect."

Two years into the Isle, Maleficent got some of the worst news of her life. Instead of sending Queen Ingrith to the Isle of the Lost, King Beast hailed her a hero, and after many hours of spellwork Fairy Godmother turned her back into a woman. Now, she was back with her husband, who under his Kingdom's law wasn't allowed to divorce her, and she was able to be around Pierre. Even if Aurora didn't want her to be, the entire family was required to be at Holiday parties together for the next few years for Beast's "family repair plan."

For the first time since the Isle was created, the villains of the Isle truly saw an enraged Maleficent. No one knew if it was her magic or a coincidence, but there was even a storm that night. The worst the Isle had ever seen. That was the day that it was set in everyone's minds to never, ever, mess with Maleficent.

Only days after her enraged mood began, Maleficent ran into Hades who was on a bit of a rampage himself. Over what, he never revealed, but after a few loose lip comments she pieced together that it had to do with his son, Hayden, and something Beast did.

That day started an unlikely friendship between the two biggest "villains" in Auradon's eyes. Their friendship consisted of Hades actually appearing out of the Underworld more often to join Maleficent in taking care of chores around the island (which generally had him going to the right side, as he was the one who couldn't be hurt by Frollo), and drinking incredibly weak wine while complaining about Beast, Ingrid, and Zeus. But only for half of the year, so as to not bother Persephone.

Honestly Maleficent thought that that was ridiculous. She had no romantic feelings for Hades, probably never would. It's not like anything would happen.

Or so she thought.

A year later, days after a drunken night of mistakes and regrets, Maleficent felt a change. One that would bring her a new purpose. For Maleficent, the last of the dark Fae, the protector of the Moors, mother to Aurora, was pregnant.

Hades and Maleficent were not in love. What led them to this situation was seeking comfort. For Maleficent, she was drowning in pain after finding out that Aurora was pregnant and she wouldn't be there to help her or to see the child. For Hades, it was loneliness and sadness over not seeing his wife for so long and finding out that his son would only be able to visit him a couple times come the colder months as he was starting school.

It didn't excuse their actions, and neither would pretend it did. As Hades was married and, despite what happened, deeply in love with his wife, Maleficent wouldn't blame him if he wanted nothing to do with the child. She wouldn't mention him on the birth certificate, and would make up some story for the baby once they were old enough to ask questions. So in a surprise turn of events, he asked to be involved. He may have been upset at first, but after that he started talking about how little the baby would be, everything it would need, figuring out ways to protect it once they were here. He asked questions about the length of Fae pregnancies, if the baby would be born with wings (Maleficent honestly hoped not, for the child's safety), and how she was feeling. It was... adorable, honestly.

The adorableness only lasted for a little while, though, because quickly both he and Borra started to annoy Maleficent to no end. Cries of "Don't do that!" or "No, you need rest!" or bugging her about food and never leaving her alone. She wanted to be alone. She was half tempted to see if she could get a 'Keep Out' spell to work, but after what had happened when Persephone found out about the pregnancy, she decided against that.

Speaking of Persephone's reaction, it wasn't a good one, as expected. It was also very public, or at least her anger was as plants of all kinds magically appeared around the isle. That caused many of the witches to try doing spells and potions, none of which worked despite their weeks trying.

Maleficent found out from Hades that Persephone almost turned her into a plant, until the baby part came in. For all the anger the goddess had, she couldn't harm a baby. Instead, she locked herself deep in the underworld, deeper than Hades isle cave, and refused to speak to him. It made him dread telling Hayden. It made Maleficent guilty.

She was the cause for a family being torn apart. If she had stuck to her plan to not associate with anyone other than Borra and Diablo, none of this would have happened. But on that note, she also wouldn't have the baby on the way. And because of the baby, she couldn't guarantee that she wouldn't do it again.

Adding to her guilt and crankiness, Maleficent found it hard to keep her emotions in check, to keep her mask in place. All she wanted was fresh air, food cravings she couldn't settle, nesting and wanting to make sure that everything was ready for the baby. The last want was settled by Hades finding a crib that was in good shape and a rocking chair, and Borra finding a purple blanket and baby clothes. And with Hades connections, diapers and the if-needed formula were also on the way. It wasn't much, but they would make due.

While Hades procrastinated telling Hayden, Maleficent wrote a letter to Aurora. While someone might read it and tell Beast, it wouldn't matter. He would find out soon enough, especially with how quick Fae pregnancies were. Instead of nine months, they were barely five, and Maleficent was only a couple months away from her due date. She wondered how her Beastie would react. Happy? Upset? Sad?

She found out only a few weeks before she gave birth. By this time Hayden knew, (and he wasn't happy in the slightest), as did most of the Isle. Which in turn caused Maleficent to never leave her castle.

Anyways, Beastie's letter was more than Maleficent was expecting. It was of cheers and pictures. Of love and hope and sorrow over not being able to meet her little sibling, of Pierre not getting to be an involved nephew. It also contained wishes from other royals, ones who apparently believed Aurora. Queen Rapunzel, Queen Anna, the fifth spirit Elsa, they all sent their best. And Maleficent wasn't entirely sure how to process that.

A few months before Maleficent's baby was due, the Isle got word that the Queen of Auradon had given birth to a healthy baby boy. Maleficent prayed that the boy would be more like his mother, and be the one to change things for the Isle.

AN: Thank you for the reviews, and danifan3000 I can't say much without spoiling, but at least one of your questions will get its answer in the next few chapters.

As you all saw, I'm not going into heavy detail's on Maleficent's pregnancy or the beginning years on the Isle. But if there is anything you really want to see, let me know and I might make a companion fic :)
