The day Maleficent gave birth was the longest and best day of her life. With the year coming to a close, Mallantha Aurora Bertha entered the world. Her Mal

She was perfect. On the small side, but healthy, with porcelain skin, pale eyes, and purple hair. Maleficent didn't want to put her down, only doing so when she had to take care of herself. And in those instances, Hades was the one to pick her up, cuddling the child close and humming lullabies Maleficent had never heard. Borra had taken it upon himself to take care of the island while Maleficent recovered, and when he wasn't out there he was in front of the nursery, swearing that no harm would come to the little Fae-godling. Diablo would guard her crib, watching her whenever her parents couldn't. Much like he had with Aurora.

"You have a sister," Maleficent whispered to the baby one night. Mal was sleeping, and Maleficent couldn't look away. She feared that if she did, her baby would disappear. "She's older than you by quite a few years, and has a child of her own named Pierre, your nephew. Her name is Aurora, and you're named after her." Maleficent chuckled as she thought of how Aurora would react to that information. "I bet that if she could come meet you, she'd never let you go. Would probably even fight me in order to hold you."

Mal's eyes started to flutter, and Maleficent sighed, leaning down to gently kiss the baby's forehead. "I promise, mon amour, that I will do everything I can to make sure that you have a good life. And one day, we will get off this island."

For the first few weeks, no one dared come near the castle. Even though Maleficent was technically more vulnerable, Hades had decided to stay for a while and the mountainous climb was a hard one as it was. To climb all that way only to be cursed, or even killed and then likely sent to Tartarurs (for those who believed), by the god of the Underworld. Well, not even Claude Frollo thought it was worth the risk.

Not to mention that Maleficent wouldn't be vulnerable for long. The island feared what would happen if Maleficent's daughter was badly harmed, and for most they made a promise that day to never even look at the girl the wrong way. (The real question was how many would stick to this promise.)

It was while Maleficent was resting and Hades was holding Mal that their first visitor arrived. As both parents were busy, Borra was the one to answer the door and the one to come and say it was for Hades.

Hades reluctance to go down was obvious as he handed Mal to Borra. While he doubted it would be any of his relatives who while they could technically visit the island had no want to, it could be Persephone. Which honestly made him drag his feet more. What Hades wasn't expecting was to find his great-niece, Ursula, at the door with her daughter in her arms.

Uma was born only a few weeks before Mal. Hades remembered because while he wasn't at all close with Ursula, he still dropped by and monitored how the birth was going. Thankfully, while like Mal and on the smaller side, Uma was a healthy baby and had a set of lungs that promised little sleep for the residents of the cove.

"Ursula," Hades greeted carefully. While Ursula was Poseidon's granddaughter, she was like Hades more. A sweet-talker with a love of deals. Usually, deals that left the other person on the losing side.

"Uncle Hades,"

With the weather being on the cold side and Uma strapped to her chest, Hades stepped aside to allow Ursula in. But that didn't mean that he stopped keeping a close eye on her. "So, what brings you here on this lovely day?"

Ursula rolled her eyes and adjusted Uma, looking down at her sleeping baby before looking to Hades. "I have a proposition to make."

She didn't give Hades a chance to respond before jumping in, "I want to officially form an alliance between myself, you, and Maleficent."

Honestly, it wasn't an unreasonable request. With the addition of Mal, it would make sense that not just Ursula but other villains with children would come seeking alliances. This way the children would grow up together and hopefully form their own gangs. Ursula would be one of the better options in that regard, as Uma was also part god, no matter how little, and that would help a connection form between her and Mal. "And what would you get from this alliance?"

"Better food, protection, and," she paused, looking away for a moment, "I want you to protect Uma and take care of her when I can't. Teach her what she needs to know. I'm in power down there, I can't show any weakness. Uma will need someone in her corner."

The decision was a no-brainer after that. When Hadie had entered his life, Hades had started to have a weakness when it came to children. Mal just added to it, and now so did Uma. So, after a brief discussion with Maleficent, he agreed to the alliance.

As was agreed on, Uma spent a few days with Hades in the week, days Ursula was working late. If there were any signs of pirates fighting, Uma was up with him. While none of the pirates would hurt a child, over the years other gangs had started to and would if given the chance, and Ursula's home wasn't exactly the best guarded.

It was February when, instead of Maleficent or Hades, Mal got her first visitor. While she was still furious at Hades, Persephone insisted that Hadie needed to visit his father, and meet his sister. To say that the seven year old wasn't happy with it was an understatement. The entire way to Maleficent's castle was full of rants at his father. Even if having children with those who weren't your spouse was more common than should be among the Olympians, it didn't mean that anyone was happy about it. And for Hadie it was worse because he had grown up believing that his parents were the exception. Now, he had a little sister who was born to a woman who wasn't his mother.

If Hadie had to meet this kid, then he was going to do it without his father. Those were his terms. So, that's how he found himself outside the nursery, looking in through the open door as the baby's mother put her in her crib.

"I understand why you don't want to meet her," Maleficent said, startling Hadie. He hadn't realized that she knew he was there. "It makes everything a lot more real, doesn't it?"

He didn't want to respond, not to her, but lessons with his mother had solidified in his head that he had to respond somehow. He settled for a hum, that way he wouldn't have to actually say anything. And, okay, maybe he found himself taking a couple of steps into the nursery.

Maleficent moved away from the crib, leaving an empty gap of space for Hadie. But he wasn't ready. He didn't even want to look in the crib, didn't want to see the shock of purple hair that his father had told him about. He had hoped that the hair would have been from the fae side, but that hope was crushed when he had spotted Maleficent's brown hair. Mal having purple hair meant that it came from Hades, just like his blue hair.

They paired stood in silence for a while, until Maleficent broke it again, "Hayden-"

"Hadie," Hadie interrupted, finally looking up at her. Maleficent didn't look angry at the interruption, more amused.

"Alright, Hadie. Do you think that all of the people on this island should be here?"

"No!" Hadie responded automatically, his eyes widening. His dad didn't belong on the island, and his mom's friend, Rapunzel, was friends with five people who had been thrown on the island.

Maleficent hummed, "And why is that?"

"They don't deserve to be here," Hadie said, "They made mistakes but were forgiven. And others just shouldn't be here."

"Okay. So, what about the children."

Hadie grew silent, knowing exactly what she meant. He knew that if he had been born only a few years later, when his dad was on the island, then he'd be here too. "They shouldn't be blamed for their parents." He said softly.

Maleficent hummed again, making her way towards the window. With her even further away from the crib, Hadie walked forward.

'She's so small' He thought. Just like his dad said, she had purple hair, and Hadie could see a tint of blue to it as well. Her fingers were in tight fists, and her onesie had blue flowers all over it. Hadie's hand moved over the edge, and with a quick glance towards Maleficent who nodded, he gently stroked her cheek.

"Her name is Mallantha, right?" He asked, eyes never leaving his baby sister.

"That's right," Maleficent said, "Borra and I call her Mal. Your father calls her Mali."

Mali. Hadie liked the sound of that. "Would you like to hold her?" Maleficent asked. Hadie quickly nodded and the woman had him sit in the corner rocking chair, then got Mal, "Put your arm like this so it supports her head," she said softly, adjusting his arms before placing Mal in them.

Not long after she had been placed in his arms, Mal opened her eyes. Blue eyes met green and more of Hadie's heart now belonged to his sister.

Hadie used his free arm to gently hold Mal's hand, and gasped when the baby smiled at him, looking excitedly to Maleficent and then back down to Mal. "Hi Mali," the boy said, smiling back at her, "I'm your big brother Hadie. I'm sorry that I was mad at you, but I promise I never will be again."

There was a cough coming from Maleficent, but Hadie guessed that it was probably a cold. He hoped Mal wouldn't get it!

"Can you forgive me Mali?"

Mal cooed and waved the fist that Hadie was holding as her smile widened. Hadie was so enthralled by his little sister that he didn't even notice someone standing in the doorway. Not until he heard a click followed by the clearing of a throat.

Hadie looked up to see his father (also noticing that Maleficent was no longer in the room), a beat up camera in his hand, and his smile fell a little. Hades must've pretended not to notice.

"What do you think Bud?"

Hadie looked back down at Mal, who was babbling some, which made it hard to frown. "I'm still mad at you," he said.

"That's okay. You're allowed to be mad."

Hadie didn't respond, opting to tickle Mal's stomach instead. He was pleasantly surprised when what sounded like a tiny laugh emerged from her. "I'm not mad at Mali." He said, looking back up at his dad.

Hades smiled, kneeling down so he was eye to eye with his son. "I'm glad. So, do you want to keep holding her or would you like me to take her?"

"I want to keep holding her." Hadie said. And he did.

While he did eventually put her down, Hadie was at the castle for hours, and came back the next day. With his love for his sister, no one was surprised when Hadie suddenly started visiting more on weekends.

Mal was three months old when Maleficent got a letter from Aurora. With the letter was a picture. A picture of a beautiful baby girl, wrapped up in a pink blanket, being held by her Beastie.

Her name was Audrey, and she had been born only two weeks before. She was a quiet baby who had Phillip wrapped around her finger as soon as she opened her eyes. Pierre was fascinated by her, and loved to watch his baby sister sleep. He said that he was protecting her from the monsters, and Maleficent smiled at that.

The only problem was that Aurora's mother was suddenly much more interested in being around. She wanted to be much more involved in taking care of the two-week old, and Aurora found herself planning on spending a lot more time in Cinderellasberg (and honestly Beast, why did you change the kingdom's name to that) with her children as soon as she and Audrey were able to travel. Cinderella had offered her a cottage to stay in. Phillip wouldn't be able to join them, but as much as Aurora would miss him, she told Maleficent that she just wanted to be alone with her children. She understood Leah's place, but ultimately Audrey was her baby. Maleficent was proud of her Beastie for standing up for herself.

Hades adored Mal. He held her often, told her stories about Olympus and Greece, sang her lullabies, responded to her every cry, and would cuddle her for hours. And in his mind, that was a bit of a problem.

He was the only one watching Mal one night, as Maleficent and Borra were checking the island wells. Mal was six months now, and it was nearing bedtime. He knew that if there was one thing Maleficent despised, it was Mal being off schedule. Hades knew that, and knew that Maleficent had a point. And yet, he couldn't seem to put her down. His little girl, innocent in a place full of evil. Eventually she would have to develop a thick skin, she'd have to develop survival skills. Part of him screamed to put her down and walk away. Staying, giving her love, that would make her soft. Soft meant the possibility of her being in danger. But the larger part begged him to stay. That part always won in the end.

Mal yawned, turning her face into his neck while one of her hands managed to grab a fistful of his shirt, holding on tight. "Guess I should put you in your crib, huh?" He whispered to her. "You know, I didn't have a good relationship with my father. Yeah, he sorta ate me and most of my siblings. I know, I know, that's gross and he's horrible, I agree. You'd think that with that much bonding time I'd actually get along with Poseidon more." He shrugged his shoulders in a 'what can you do' sort of way, then continued. "But back to my point, I can't promise to keep all the harm away from you, I want to, gods I want to, but the most I can do is try. But I can promise that anyone who hurts you won't just have to deal with me, but my family, our family, as well. Your mom aside, and I mean she's terrifying on her own, I may rant and snark on the Olympians, but at the end of the day they're still my family."

Hades sighed, kissing Mal's cheek before putting her in the crib and covering her up with a blanket. "And I promise, Mali, that I will never leave you. Even when you're all grown up and on your own in the far, far future, I'll always be there when you need me and you'll always be my baby girl."

For the longest time, there weren't many things in life that scared Hades. How could there be? He literally was around the dead most of the time and spent years in the River Styx. After that, most things paled in comparison.

But then, he married Persephone, and suddenly he was worried about her when she was helping him work. He was worried about her when she wasn't with him. But after hundred's of years being together, they had their rhythm. The fear was still there, but it wasn't up front and center.

And then Hayden was born. And like that everything in Hades' world changed to the point where he even almost went and apologized to Zeus. Almost. Anyways, half of Hades' world split, now his heart belonged to two people. And now he had a baby to worry about. The first time Hadie flamed up he was two, and Hades swore that he almost had a heart-attack. How Persephone managed to not worry as much never made sense to him. Thankfully by this time Demeter allowed Persephone to live closer to the Underworld, off of Olympus, though Demeter practically lived in the cabin as well.

Finally when his fear was almost manageable, Beast came. In order to calm the man down, Zeus agreed for Hades to go to the Isle and it took Persephone, Demeter in a rare act of kindness towards him, and Hades himself fighting for Zeus to ensure that godly powers would work on the Isle and that Hades wasn't actually trapped there no matter what the unhinged king thought.

Somehow, Zeus agreed.

Being on the Isle was horrible. Now, Persephone couldn't visit because they had to make Beast think that she could only use a portal Zeus made six months out of the year. Now he couldn't see Hadie other than those six months as well. He couldn't make sure they were safe. And when they were on the Isle it was worse because as far as Beast knew, the only place Hades could use magic was in the Underworld.

Of course, when it came to fear for himself, there really wasn't any. He was under a dome with a bunch of villains, yes, but they really couldn't do anything to him, so what was the point? The few beings he finally admitted might scare him were his family, but did he really fear them? Not really, especially when you add in that none of them wanted his job. They had tried to do it when he was in the Stynx and all it resulted in was him getting out in less than a hundred years and having to clean up a big mess. So again, an island of villains who thought they were scary and could threaten the Lord of the Underworld only to find that that didn't work and then live in fear of going to Tartarus.

But of course, once again Hades' world changed. Because now he had Mali. And unlike Hadie, Mal was more vulnerable to getting hurt. Maleficent was a semi-immortal Fae, yes, and Hades believed that Mal was immortal, but he wasn't sure. But even if she was, she was still half Fae, and Fae could get hurt.

Having Mal brought reminded him of a fear, though. A healthy fear. A fear most of the gods, including Zeus, had, which was saying something.

A fear of Persephone. For Hades, it was because she was both scary and his wife. For the other Olympians, it was because of the first.

The last time Hades had actually seen Persephone was when he told her about Maleficent's pregnancy. Since then, she locked herself in the Underworld's castle and wouldn't allow him in, meaning that he pretty much just stayed in his Isle cave. He honestly wasn't sure when he'd see her again. Months? Years? Decades? And he couldn't blame her, he messed up.

So walking into his Isle home to find her on the couch reading a book was a shock. Mal was nine months old now and was spending the night while Maleficent dealt with some gang upsets. She was the one to alert him of his wife, making noises and pointing towards the living room.

"What is it Mali?" Hades asked, bouncing his daughter a little.

Mal turned her head to the living room and leaned that way some, "Uh!"

"You want to go in there?"

The look she gave him was the one he dubbed the baby version of a teen eye roll. It consisted of her squinting her eyes and pressing her lips together in a way that made him want to laugh, but didn't because she was obviously very serious and it would be rude to laugh at her. Instead, he obliged, raising a brow when Mal started to babble more. He was about to ask her what she was going on about when he spotted Persephone, stopping at just staring at her.

Her hair was longer than the last time, brown curls with pink highlights weaved in a braid that ended at her length. She was in her usual dark isle clothes, and had a slightly amused expression on her face. Though it didn't mask the slight anger there.

"Wondered how long it would take you to notice me," the woman commented, putting her book down. "Your daughter's observance must have been inherited from her mother."

"Persephone-"

"Stop," she held up a hand, "I haven't quite forgiven you yet."

Hades shifted, ignoring Mal's babbling for the moment, "So, uh, why are you here then?"

Persephone rolled her eyes, getting up and making way towards them. "Just because I haven't fully forgiven you doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk. And besides, I wanted to meet my step-daughter."

"You aren't upset with her then?" He didn't really think she would be, but Persephone was known to be a little more... quick to anger.

The shock in her eyes answered his question before her words did. "Of course not! She's innocent in all this." Persephone said sharply, frowning at him before turning to Mal, her frown turning into a smile. "Hello Mallantha."

Mal buried her face into Hades' chest, before peeking out slightly and giving a tiny grin, causing Persephone to coo. "Oh, she's adorable!"

Hades chuckled, "You wanna say hi to Persephone, Mali?"

Mal raised a hand, wiggling her fingers in a tiny wave, causing Persephone to melt even more, waving back.

With the introduction made, Hades grabbed a blanket off the back of the couch and put it on the floor, before placing Mal on it and giving her her rattle. With her occupied, he and Persephone sat on the couch. Watching her and avoiding looking at each other.

"Zeus was shocked when he saw that you had a daughter." Persephone said stiffly, "Couldn't get over it really."

Hades stayed quiet and Persephone continued with a humorless laugh, "Not that he can say much considering the amount of children he's had out-of-wedlock. And mother, she's not happy in the slightest."

Just thinking about how Demeter may have reacted had Hades flinching. "She's not going to pop in here anytime soon, is she?"

A sigh of relief escaped him when Persephone shook her head. "No. She's just trying to get me to re-evaluate my life choices."

Awkward silence followed, only filled by the noise Mal was making. After a while, Hades got up and crouched down in front of Persephone, taking her hands in his. "Seph, I am more sorry than you know. It wasn't a planned thing, I didn't pursue her at all, and I'll always regret betraying your trust. But," his voice quieted and he looked over at Mal, "While I can promise that it won't happen again, I can't say that if I went back in time I would change anything." Persephone followed his gaze, her expression softening as they watched Mal lose interest in her rattle and make her way onto her knees. "Mal is part of my world now, along with you and Hadie. I wouldn't trade her for the world."

Persephone didn't say anything, but she didn't pull away either and Hades took that as a good sign.

"I love you, Persephone. Nothing has gotten in the way of that, nothing can change that."

"I know.." the tension that was in Persephone's shoulder had melted away with a sigh, "It'll take work to build back the trust, but we'll get through it." A tug on her dress and pressure on Hades leg alerted them of Mal's presence, and both were greeted by a big smile. With a nod from Hades, Persephone picked the little girl up and began talking to her.

By the end of the night, Persephone swore that no harm would ever come to her step-daughter if she had anything to say about it.

AN: If there's anything ya'll really want to see of baby Mal, let me know. I also hope everyone likes this version of Hadie. I know that in the books he's hinted at being her age or younger, but let's just ignore the books XD

Thank you all for the reviews, and answers are coming... eventually :)
