AN: Bit of a timeskip
Meanwhile, in Auroria:
"Aurora! Think about what you are doing!"
Audrey put her hands over her ears as she heard her Grammy scream. All her Grammy and Maman did anymore was fight. If Pierre was here, he'd distract her, but he was at school and Papa was visiting Grand-père and Grand-mère
"I am thinking about what I'm doing!" Maman shouted back. Footsteps came closer to the door, and Audrey raced to her closet. She threw herself into it, wishing her blankets were here. The blankets helped, they hid her and muffled the sound. "And Audrey and I are going home!"
"This is your home!"
"No its not, Leah!" Even from where Audrey was hidden, she could hear the sound of her Grammy's heels stop, could her a platter being dropped by a servant. Maman called Grammy by her name. Maman had never done that before. "And I'm done pretending. Audrey and I are leaving."
Audrey knew this. She knew she and Maman were leaving. Its why her room was bare. Its why Maman "dismissed" their favorite staff members. Maman had never liked this castle. She said it was too far from the Moors, too big, and held too many bad memories because it was built in a bad place. Grammy, though, liked it. She even decorated it.
But Audrey liked the new castle. There were rooms for her to explore, and she got to have picnics in the Moors, and got to go to the nearby village with Maman. There were plenty of pretty trees around the castle, too, and Papa had already hung up a swing for her and Pierre. He even said they might build a tree-castle!
"Aurora!"
"It's time you left, Leah."
"Aurora, I am your mother!"
"You are my nothing!" Maman cried. "I said I'm done pretending, and I mean it! I will treat you with good manners. I can't do anything about King Adam's decision for you to stay Queen Mother, or you being on his council, but you are no longer my mother. The moment you tried to fill Audrey's head with lies, the moment you tried to take over parenting her and tried to let her stay with Ingrith, you burned that bridge. You have lost your rights as a mother, and as a grandmother. You no longer have any part in our lives."
"You can't do this! Aurora! King Adam-"
"Can't do a thing." The coldness in Maman's voice had Audrey hugging herself. She hated it, she hated it, she hated it. "It's taken years, but Phillip and I have made strong connection in the council and that's what matters. Beast won't risk it. Not even for you. Goodbye Leah."
Grammy kept screaming, but Maman wasn't saying anything. Audrey heard her door open and shut, along with the click of a lock. "Audrey?"
It was Maman. Maman would make things better now that she wasn't yelling. And Maman never yelled at her. So, Audrey slipped out of the closet and into her Maman's arms. Her tears started as soon as she felt safe, and Maman hugged her tighter. "Oh mon ange, I am so sorry."
"You two were yelling again," Audrey whimpered. "It was really loud."
"I know," She said softly. "But we won't have to listen to it anymore. Do you have your suitcase?"
Audrey nodded. Everything of hers that was left in the castle was in it. Maman smiled and nodded. "Good. Can you get it?"
Audrey nodded again and jumped out of her Maman's arms, then raced over to the bed and pulled the suitcase out from under it. She flinched when she heard a pounding on the door. "Aurora! Open this door!"
"Grammy's not coming with us, is she?" Audrey asked timidly. She liked Grammy, she did. But sometimes Grammy said mean things about other people, especially Grandmother. And sometimes she made Audrey feel bad about herself. And Grammy yelled, a lot.
"No baby, Grammy's not coming." Maman assured her.
"So... how are we gonna get out?"
Maman had a sparkle in her eyes. It was a look Audrey had only seen a few times. Generally because her Maman was doing something that Grammy called mischievous. Grammy never liked it, but it was always fun. "Follow me," Maman whispered, tiptoeing into the closet. When they were in there, Maman shut the door then turned on a tiny flashlight from her purse. She pointed it at a wall, moving her hand along it as well. Audrey heard a noise and held Maman's hand tightly as the wall moved. There was a tunnel, and Audrey found herself being pulled into it.
"Don't be afraid," Maman whispered. Audrey wasn't, not anymore. Maman didn't need to worry, Audrey knew that nothing would happen to her with her Maman by her side.
Within fifteen minutes, they were outside the castle in a secure spot. A car was waiting for them. A few minutes later, the old castle was lost in the distance, and Audrey was laughing while singing songs with her Maman. Troubles from the morning were nothing but a bad memory in her mind.
AN: dragonflamefairy blame beast and canon writers XD I swear whoever was coming up with the kingdom names had to be high cause that's not even the worst one...
purpledragon, it wasn't until after I re-read that I realized how badly I worded things. It's been fixed, and Evie is the same age as Mal just a handful of months younger. As for the iron, its actually in quite a few fics and its from the Maleficent movies. Iron burns fairies. Its probably one of my favorite things from the movie because it gives fairies a weakness.
