Stillness. I feel it all around me. In the ground beneath me, the sky above me. A sense of calmness washes over me in metaphorical waves, relaxing any tension still residing within my body. I hear the birds tweeting as they come flying in from the distance. The poignant display of the freedom that these little creatures have is astounding. The waves subside.

I can smell the grass of the nearby fields. A beautiful smell. No. A luxurious one. I step into the fields carefully. What a wonderous sight to behold. Hills upon hills of magnificent emerald, all sprinkled in gorgeous plant life. Treading across them, I look all around me for sight of anyone else who could be in the vicinity. But I could see none. For many an hour I walk through this array of Mother Nature without tiring of breath. Only near the last hour of my visit do I decide to rest.

Upon neatly arranged slabs of hardened rock I sit. Crossing my thin legs and resting my equally thin arms on them. The sunlight emitting from the clear blue-sky shines directly on me, bathing me in it's warm gaze. I know my time here is nearly up. But I would like to spend a few more moments here. Just for old time's sake.

Closing my eyes, I begin to hear the distant noise of screaming, yet I chose not to react to it. Instead, I chose to ignore it. My time here was rare, and I was in need of a good rest after my many days of hard labour in the past number of months. The sunlight slowly dimmed, before vanishing altogether, along with everything else in this place of virtue. "Is it time, my lord?" I called out to no one in particular, for it too was rare for me to encounter my benefactor as it was for me coming to my garden of Eden. I opened my eyes gently. Blackness. Empty space. Put those two together and you would have a clear understanding of the exact area where I was currently occupying.

The tension from before entered my body in full force. The heat of rage beginning to spread its ugly influence to every fibre of my very being. The naked flesh of my form melted away painlessly, leaving my skeleton bare. Even though my eyes were no longer in their sockets, I could see the bright light coming from the space of darkness of what was once a sky. Cool air breezed fiercely from this light. It was time for me to return to my chores. I lifted my bony arms upwards, reaching for the bright light and with merely a thought, flew straight towards it.

The physical impact was indescribable. But let us just say that when it was over, I felt incredible. New flesh had graced my skeletal appearance, flesh that would go unnoticed by "higher powers". And clothing came as well. Simple dark grey suit and trousers, with a clean white button up shirt, navy blue tie and black dress shoes. Quite the dapper gentlemen even if I do say so myself.

The flesh on the other hand was of little relevance. I had no need for reproduction as I was the only member of my species. Nor was there need for any other physical characteristic associated with the average human male. Even my face had no visual characteristics of its own. Oh, I could still see, breathe and hear fine. Sustenance? Bah! I had no use for that either.

The environment that my lord had commanded me to reside in for the time being was a vast woodland. A woodland? A mere forest? This was where I always got sent to for my jobs. I had tried in vain countless times to ask my master for diversity in my errands. After all, who doesn't like a change of scenery?

But by now I had known better than to question my employer. Otherwise, the punishments I would experience would likely be severe. And I did not want to even think about them at all. I must admit, throughout all these years of my loyal servitude to my master, I had begun questioning the very reason for my existence as well as the other creatures in these various planes of reality. What was the point of it all? Were we a part of some greater plan or other? Perhaps we are. Perhaps not. I may have been around a long time, but I am not as wise as my great master, or his brother.
