Disclaimer: I don't own HP.

A/N: Greetings people, this is just a small one-shot that I wanted to write with the intention of gaining some writing experience. That being said, this is my first time writing something without it being some sort of schoolwork and English isn't my native language, so don't expect much. Don't hesitate to review if you have any criticism to make (just try and keep the review constructive so that I can improve). I hope you'll enjoy it!

A/N 2: First years are 15 years old and Harry is in Ravenclaw.

Mixed Feelings

"What is this I hear about you trying to mess with Miss Greengrass' potion, Potter?" exclaimed Snape with a look of clear displeasure on his face.

"I swear I didn't do anything! The bitch probably did it herself just so I would be in trouble." responded Harry, clearly annoyed at being called out in yet another potion class.

"Detention! You're as arrogant as your father if you thought that I would tolerate such disrespect in my classroom." Snape yelled, somehow managing to look even more furious than before.

Harry was slowly making his way toward his detention with "Professor" Snape. Every class was more or less the same; with him and Daphne trying to rile the other up which would usually end with one of them in detention. It truly is a mystery as to how they weren't expelled yet.

As a Ravenclaw, Harry hadn't expected that he would find himself in a sort of rivalry with a Slytherin. He had thought it more likely that the biggest rivalry of their year would be between a Gryffindor and a Slytherin…

How wrong that turned out to be. Since their first meeting at the beginning of the year, Daphne Greengrass had done nothing but belittle and insult him, and being the son of a marauder he was, he would always find a way to get back at her. Their rivalry was so bad that within the first month of their arrival at the castle, everyone and their owl knew about it.

Arriving in front of the greasy bat's office, Harry opened the door without knocking (knocking would give Snape respect he didn't deserve), only to find himself face to face with his worst nightmare…

"What the hell are you doing here, Greengrass?!" he shouted.

"I know it might be too hard for someone like you to figure out, but Professor McGonagall gave me detention." was her response.

"Why would she give you detention at the same time as me?! Doesn't she know we can't tolerate each other?" Harry whined.

"That's probably why she did it… Gryffindors always seem to enjoy watching people suffer." Daphne answered.

The sound of the door opening cut their argument short and, as one, they turned to look at the impassive visage of Severus Snape, their captor for the next two hours.

"Alright you dunderheads, I don't have time to lecture you about why you're here, so get to cleaning these cauldrons. Even if you finish in less than two hours, you are to remain here." Snape sneered at them before walking away to who knows where.

Now alone, they glared at each other and started working on the task they were assigned to do.

It took them an hour and a half to finish cleaning the cauldrons. When they did, they looked at each other, wondering what they should do. It was at that moment that Harry decided that he was bored.

Deciding to try and talk with his nemesis, Harry turned toward Daphne, only to find her already watching him as if waiting for him to do something. When he looked into her eyes, he stared, unable to look away. After realising that he'd been staring, he looked away from her, not noticing the slight blush that had formed on her cheeks.

After some time, he returned to face her and started talking;

"Since we're both stuck here, why don't we try and talk about why you hate me so much?" Harry asked.

"Hate you?! You're the one that hates me." was Daphne's incredulous answer.

Harry looked at her and could see honest confusion in her eyes, which confused him greatly as she couldn't be telling the truth, right?

"Whatever do you mean?" asked Harry, trying and failing to hide just how confused he was feeling at the moment.

"What I mean is that you've been insulting me ever since we first met." responded Daphne, a bit annoyed at his apparent confusion.

"Have not!"

"You have!"

"No, I haven't."

"Argh… You're so annoying." Daphne exclaimed, while internally debating with herself if she should believe that he truly hadn't intended to insult her. If he truly hadn't, this could would change everything.

"I guess I'll just leave then… It's midnight after all."

"NO! Wait…"

Looking into her eyes, Harry could tell that she was debating something within her mind, though what that was, he didn't know, which is why he decided to ask;

"Wha—" he didn't even get to finish that sentence when he found his lips attacked by Daphne's as she kissed him passionately.

While he was at first extremely surprised, he quickly returned the kiss with equal passion, making Daphne smile a bit against his lips.

It was a minute later that they broke the kiss and looked into each other's eyes;

"So, does it mean that you're my girlfriend now?" asked Harry, a bit confused about the situation.

"No..." responded Daphne, smirking a bit.

"Oh…" Harry said, trying to hide how he felt about the situation.

"You have to ask me out first, silly." Daphne told him with an amused look on her face.

"..." At this point in time, Harry decided that whatever the future holds for him, he'll get through it. After all, if he could be in a relationship with the one person with whom he'd been trading insults since the beginning of the year, everything is possible.
