Notes: For Flufftober - Picnic
Moments of Calm
When Shalimar checked the daily weather forecast that morning, it was still sunny, sunny skies all day long. And when she checked with Adam, he laughed and told there was still nothing planed for the day. All of which meant that her top secret plans were still a go and there was nothing stopping Shalimar from taking advantage of the rare moments of calm their team had to treat Emma to something nice.
While Jesse and Brennan kept Emma busy, Shalimar disappeared into the kitchen and threw together some sandwiches, fruit salad, a thermos full of freshly brewed ice tea, and some vegetables with ranch dip. It all went into a basket, along with an old quilt, and with that taken all taken care of Shalimar was ready. When she showed up in the tv room, the boys made themselves suddenly scarce - to Emma's clear amusement - and Shalimar plunked down the basket in front of Emma.
"Surprise! It's beautiful weather out and I thought maybe you might like a picnic lunch?" Shalimar hoped she wasn't too nervous, because she didn't want Emma to feel pressured to say yes by her emotions
But her girlfriend just smiled beautifully. "That is a lovely idea."
There is a clearing not too far from the Mutant X base. It's one of Shalimar's favorite places to go when she wants to be alone with her feral senses. But it feels right to share it with Emma.
It feels like she's sharing another piece of herself with Emma. And there's warmth in her chest as Emma listens to Shalimar talk about the area and the animals she can hear, the rush of the wind in the trees beyond the clearing and the soft rustle of the grass around them.
"Your powers show you so much of the world's beauty," Emma said as she settled down on the blanket next to Shalimar, cuddling up against her girlfriend. "I love the way it makes you light up so happy," Emma sighed rather happily herself. "It's like you shine sometimes."
Shalimar blushed and kissed Emma's cheek. "Well, what makes me really happy is getting to share it with you."
"Sap," Emma teased. "I'm starving after the walk here. So what goodies did you make for me?"
