Chapter 1: Coffee With Minako
"Hmm, I love how this feels on me," Rei cooed as she walked out of the bathroom. She was wrapped in a red silk robe which clung to her hourglass form.
"And I love how it looks on you," Usagi added. Rei looked up to see Usagi sitting on the edge of the bed with her hair down, wearing a white doll negligee. She looked amazing and Rei found herself licking her dry lips as she stared at her best friend. "You are so sexy Rei-chan."
"Look who's talking," Rei chuckled as she walked towards Usagi. She used two fingers to raise Usagi's chin before stealing a passionate kiss. As they pulled apart, Rei glanced towards Usagi's pert nipples and noticed her nipples were hard against the material of her lingerie. "We are going to have so much fun tonight."
"Hey!" A voice shouted from behind. Rei turned to see Mamoru standing in the doorway, still wearing his scrubs from work with a look of frustration on his face. "What are you doing to my wife?"
"The same thing I'm going to do to you," Rei replied as she undid the sash on her robe and let the garment fall to the floor. She stood in only a black g-string with a sly smile on her face. "You haven't missed anything yet."
"Good, because I want in," Mamoru chuckled as he pulled his scrub top over her head and exposed his chiseled abs. Rei walked close to Mamoru and ran her hands across his muscular chest. "I'm so glad we did this."
"So am I," Rei agreed, reaching up to grab a hungry kiss from Mamoru's lips. She could feel herself getting warmer as her mind was filled with possibilities for the evening. "This is heaven."
"No," Usagi corrected as she reached down and gave a playful slap to Rei's ass causing her to jump. "This is only the beginning."
O.O.O
Rei was awakened by a notification on her phone. As she lifted her head and woke up, she realized two things. First, she had fallen asleep at her desk again while studying for her priestess exam. Second, her hand was down her pants. She pull it out, grabbed a nearby tissue, and wiped the slick off her fingers as she muttered, "Oh god…I'm so fucked up."
Her fingers clean, Rei reached for her phone and checked it. It was a message from Minako.
MINAKO: My asshat date cancelled. Want to meet for coffee?
Rei started at how little of her study materials she had gone through before she sighed and texted back.
REI: Sure, the usual place?
O.O.O
"I can't catch a break," Minako groaned, before ripping off a piece of her danish and popping it in her mouth. "All I find are playboys or cowards. The playboys want to do me in the bathroom even before the drinks arrive at dinner. Sorry guys, that's a relationship level sexual adventure. Meanwhile, the cowards get flustered when they try to hold my hand."
"Could be worse," Rei sighed as she took a sip of chai latte. "At least you're not obsessed with your best friend and her husband."
Minako cleared her throat, took a drink of her caramel frappuccino, and put on her serious face. "I take it you are still plagued by fantasies."
Rei nodded. Minako had been the one person Rei had confided she carried deep feelings for both Mamoru and Usagi.
"I thought this would end with their marriage," Rei sighed, letting all the air out of her lungs. "I would accept both of them were off the market and there is now way I would wake up next to either after a night of mind blowing sex."
"For some, marriage is a sacred bond that lasts forever.," Minako observed, swirling the ice in her Frappuccino. "For others it's a piece of paper and a formality."
"I keep trying to push myself into my studies but it just doesn't seem to help," Rei lamented before looking out the window. It was starting to get dark and she turned away as she noticed the moon was starting to come out. "Now I'm not even sure I want to take over the shrine at this point. I'm so confused."
"If you want I could put my hair up in the buns," Minako suggested as she reached out, grabbed Rei's hand, and rubbed her thumb over her knuckles. "Unlike that time I impersonated her to trick the Death Busters, I'll have time to prepare. I'll get a hair extension so my pigtails look spot on. It can be a one time thing or if we both like it…"
"I appreciate it really," Rei responded, after briefly considering the offer. She wrapped her fingers around Minako's hand and gave it a squeeze. "But I don't think it would help and you're too good of a friend to be used as a substitute. I think I need to talk things out with them."
"While I am happy you're willing to face things head on, I can't help but wonder how they'll take it," Minako mused as she looked at Rei affectionately. She would have been willing to help Rei in any way she could. Even if it was a one night stand they didn't discuss again when the morning came. "I mean, I know they'll appreciate your feelings but I can't even imagine how they'll react. I'm sure they'll find it flattering."
Rei was stopped by the sound of her phone saying "Pyon." It was the notification she had set for when she received a text from Usagi.
USAGI: Hey girl. Want to come over for dinner on Friday?
Rei stared at the message, her heart tightening the longer she looked at it.
"What's wrong?" Minako asked, recognizing the distress on Rei's face.
"It's Usagi,'' Rei answered, not taking her eyes off the message. "She wants me to come over for dinner."
"See," Mianko smiled. "The universe produces. Go over for dinner and tell them how you feel."
"But," Rei hesitated. "What if…what if they feel threatened? What if they look at me like I'm Beryl or Diamonde? Like another person trying to mess with their relationship. I couldn't live with the thought of them hating me."
"Hey, hey," Minako cued as she reached over and squeezed Rei's free hand. "They could never hate you just for being honest. It's not a sin for having love for someone else. It's how you act on that feeling for better or worse that makes you bad or good."
"I know but…," Rei swallowed the tight ball of anxiety in her throat. She was overwhelmed by the idea of going to dinner and watching everything she cared about fall apart. Usagi and Mamoru were her best fiends and some of the most important people in her life. Mamoru had been her first crush but when it had been discovered he was Usagi's soulmate she had gracefully stepped aside. At the same time, she still found him attractive and they had taken the time to bond as friends as they continued to interact over the years.
At the same time, her relationship with Usagi had changed greatly since they first met. At first they were rivals, then they became friends, and Rei eventually realized she had intense love for Usagi she knew she would never be able to express. Instead, once again, she insisted she had no choice but to step aside as her friends walked down the aisle and swore they were going to spend their entire lives together. She had been there, by Usagi's side as one of her bridesmaids. When the festivities were done for the evening Rei had returned home and cried her eyes out. She had been so happy for her friends but she never felt more alone than on the night of Usagi and Mamoru's wedding.
"You'll never know if you don't try," Minako added. "And if things don't work out you can always bring a bottle of wine and you can all get blackout drunk and play the whole thing off as a joke."
"Great advice there Mina-P," Rei grumbled as she began to type a reply to Usagi.
O.O.O
"What's wrong, Usako," Mamoru asked as he came in from the bathroom after brushing his teeth for the night. "You seem upset."
"Rei agreed to dinner on Friday," Usagi answered as she looked at her phone. She was laying in the bigger bed the two had bought since getting married wearing a thin cotton nightgown.
"But that's what you wanted," Mamoru reminded her as he climbed into bed. "I mean that's why you suggested we have her over for dinner."
"No it's just," Usagi hesitated as she scolded through the previous messages she had sent Rei in the past few weeks. Rei's replies were one or two word answers and in response to Usagi's original message. Rei hadn't initiated a conversation or sent an interesting bit of news since the wedding. It was unlike her as Rei used to be the most responsive after Minako. "I can't shake this feeling that there's something she's not telling me. I want to be there for her even with all the demands of being an adult but if she's not being honest with me…it's just so unlike her."
"Well,." Mamoru mused as he made sure his own phone was on the charger before turning off the light next to him. "Hopefully she'll tell us what's going on."
"Seems like things were easier when we were fighting monsters," Usagi sighed as she placed her phone on her nightstand. "Now it's a big production just to get a friend over for dinner."
"I know what you mean," Mamoru yawned before stretching. "These shifts at the hospital are killing me. They have a real baptism by fire mindset. I hate being the new guy. Makes me exhausted."
"Exhausted?" Usagi wondered as she rolled on her side towards her husband. She gave him a sultry look and began to play with the thin straps of her nightgown. "So I take it I couldn't tempt you into some sexy time before bed?"
Before she knew what happened, Usagi found herself grabbed by Mamoru, pulled into his lap, and he was propped against the headboard for support.
"Usa," Mamoru growled as he began to lick and kiss the crevice between her neck and shoulders. "You could tempt me to crawl through hell on my stomach for a single kiss."
"Oh Mamo-chan," Usagi giggled as she felt Mamoru's hands reach under her nightgown and squeeze her bottom. "I love you so much."
O.O.O
A/N: A shorter chapter but this is a setup of something bigger. If you can't tell from the title, this will be my attempt at a poly ship between Rei, Usagi, and Mamoru. No cheating but instead a look at how such a poly relationship would pan out between the three. I'm writing this first story for the free day of this year's Sailor Moon LGBTQ+ week. I don't have any more done though and probably won't get more done for a while. I have a lot more projects I need to tackle first. Consider this a preview of things to come.
