"I'm sure your siblings will come back from their sleepover tomorrow," Bella reassured me as she safely tucked me into bed. It felt strange being tucked into bed without my siblings by my side. Usually we'd exchange stories and laugh and pretend to watch clouds, but not tonight. With my siblings away, I was left all alone. "But what if they never come back?" I asked. "If I'm a good girl and I sleep right through, will they return in the morning?" Bella laughed. "Of course they will. Now be a good girl and get some sleep." As Bella left the room, she turned on a gramophone that was left on the side of the bed. Rhianna's 'California King Bed' began to play quietly, and at once I fell into a deep sleep. As I slept, I dreamt a strange, comforting dream.
There was a huge statue left standing proud and still against a cloudy, dreamy land. The sky was pink and yellow and there were clouds everywhere. Suddenly, it began to crack, just like an egg hatching, and I emerged from the heart of the statue and climbed down, looking around me at this strange new world. "Wow," I whispered, but then I saw something huge and red in the distance. It was a giant hot water bottle. I giggled a bit, thinking it a bit strange to see a hot water bottle in a dreamy world. I raced across the soft path towards the giant hot water bottle and leapt on, bouncing on its warm, rubbery surface. I saw someone bouncing alongside me, laughing and howling in victory. Someone who was wearing an orange T shirt. Someone really familiar… "Luke!" I cried, and I leapt across the hot water bottle and threw myself into Luke's arms, engaging in a hug with him. "It feels warm being with you." I said. "Yeah, and this is even warmer." he said. What he meant was, this was a representation of his warmth. I snuggled into the rubbery surface and fell asleep, feeling how warm it is.
Suddenly, I heard a younger voice calling, "Yoo-hoo! Violet!" I leapt onto the hot water bottle and I was sent flying all the way into a field of dandelions. I searched around for who called for me, and I saw someone black with fangs crawling across the field. I shrank back in horror, but when he pounced onto me, I laughed happily. It was none other than my brother Resus. "Oh, Resus!" I cried. I hugged him like there was no tomorrow, then Resus picked a dandelion and said, "You see this, Violet? Spring is coming." I was confused about what he meant, but he blew the dandelion seeds into the air. I took a dandelion and blew. I could see the seeds flying into the air. "There, Vi, you can blow into a dandelion just like me!"
I chased after the seeds across the field, skipping and twisting and laughing as I did. Suddenly, I screeched to a halt near a pool of water. It was cool and deep, and I could see my crystal clear reflection rippling. I was about to touch the water when I saw a reflection of a mummy. Not just any mummy, an Egyptian mummy - Cleo. She held out her palms to me and said, "You and I are alike in many ways." Feeling touched, I crawled up to Cleo and let my palms touch her's. We weren't alike, we were…different. "That's what makes us special," explained Cleo, "I'm covered in bandages, you're not, but I'm still your sister no matter what happens." I ran up to Cleo and hugged her. It was the first time she'd ever said something like that.
After that, I walked deep into the water until I felt myself floating. I looked back at Cleo, who was waving with encouragement. I nodded, and walked deeper and deeper into the water, until I was deep under the sea, surrounded by fish and bubbles. I even saw a fish that looked remarkably like Dig, which made me giggle a bit. I saw something red and beating in the distance, so I swam in its direction, and saw a huge red organ heart connected to various wires. Luke was floating with me, staring at the huge red beating object. He was gesturing to me like he was about to say, "Go ahead." I swam up to the heart and touched it with my wrist. Immediately, the heart began to glow white, and Luke's tears turned to little bubbles as he waved me goodbye. I swam towards the heart and…
I found myself in a quiet field of long green grass. I looked around. There was not a sound to be heard except for the whistling of birds. I looked at what I was wearing too. I was wearing a clean pair of pyjamas - they were blue with yellow moons and white clouds all over. They looked like…Mackenzie's pyjamas! But how can my parents steal pyjamas if they're not thieves? I looked in the south direction and saw Resus walking towards me, not wearing any shoes or socks at all. I wasn't wearing any shoes or socks at all, and I saw him lying in the grass, relaxing happily. "Come on, Violet, foot fight!" he said, and we began to bash our feet near each other, like we do in bed at home. I was starting to enjoy myself for the first time ever, and I loved playing with my brother so dearly, and I loved playing with Luke and Cleo too.
Suddenly, I heard operatic singing, and I sat up to see a huge rose growing in the distance. I raced up to the rose and began to climb its stem, until I grabbed hold of the smooth red petals and fell into the flower. I found Cleo hiding in there, waving and laughing. "CLEO!" I cried, and I ran into her arms, delighted to be reunited with her. She said, "I miss you so much, but someday, you'll have to live without us. But remember me, remember remember remember. And if you don't, realise I'm watching you from Heaven." "Heaven? But Cleo, you're-" "Remember all that I said, Violet." I watched as Cleo got carried up to Heaven, and the rose closed its petals, trapping me inside. I screamed and wanted to get out, but the rose sank back into the ground as the operatic singing sounded in reverse.
I found myself in a cold ice cave, its walls glistening like jewels in a treasure box. I wandered through the cave and looked around at the walls. They showed dinosaurs frozen in the ice, their red eyes gleaming, their roars echoing along the cave. One of the walls showed something I could not believe. I froze in my tracks when I saw it. It was…it was…LUKE! Trapped in the ice in his werewolf form, his mouth wide open showing rows of teeth. I screamed and fell to my knees, sobbing. "Luke…Luke, please…don't die. I'm your sister, I promise heel and toe to protect you." A great wind blew and I looked to see leaves floating past Luke's icy prison, revealing images I thought I'd never see. The time Luke smashed himself against the wall to get his friends out of the haunted house. The time Luke played a prank on Otto by placing a pan in his hand to make him bonk himself on the head. The time Luke went trick or treating with his friends, dressed as normals. I was getting weaker and weaker as I finally saw the light outside the cave, and reached it.
I found myself in a pine forest, where I saw a huge hollow tree nearby. My bones were showing through my arms, my ribs went right through my chest and I was getting severely malnourished. However, I managed to climb the tree safe and sound, until I reached a branch where Resus was sitting. He too looked malnourished. I started to wheeze through my breathing, and there was a stoma in my neck. "Hang on, Violet, you're going to make it," said Resus. But I just coughed. "There's no time, Resus. These are my final moments before my passing. Wish me well." Resus was getting weaker too. "I think it's my time too, Violet. Luke, Cleo and I are going to Heaven." "Me too, I think I might go to Heaven right now…." And with that, Resus and I fell out of the tree and landed on the ground. Blood dripped down our foreheads as our spirits emerged from our body, wearing white gowns and golden cherub wings. We were flying up to Heaven.
In Heaven, we watched the sun slowly rise while Luke and Cleo sat beside us, Luke wearing the same as us and Cleo's bandages glowing gold in the heavenly light. I ran up to Luke, my legs strong again, crying hard. "Luke, oh Luke…" I whimpered, "I wish I could stay with you forever, but your attention to something else has made me so lonely." "Don't you worry about that," said Luke, his eyes filling with tears too, "A wise queen once told me, "I'll always be there for you, even if you can't see me." We didn't understand it then. Now we do." "But how does that-" I began, but Luke said, "This message has been passed down to us now, and through all that the BBC has given us, even during its 100th birthday party when we didn't get invitations, we were still given that hopeful slice of cake. That slice is you."
I was warmed to tears by what Luke said, and I hugged him hard. "Luke!" I cried, "Don't worry, I'll always be there for you. And Resus, and Cleo too." I laughed despite my tears and sat in between Luke and Cleo, watching the sun rise to a new day, with us being the new angels in Heaven. Who knows what we might do, jump on the clouds, count the stars, paint rainbows…As the gramophone halted, I snuggled in my real bed and waited for the morning to arrive.
"Violet, wake up."
"Are you sure she's awake?"
"Yeah, she may be, she'll be excited to see us back from our sleepover."
Luke placed his hand on my shoulder, and as I woke up I saw my siblings all standing in line, smiling away. "GUYS!" I shouted, and I hurled myself into Luke's arms, in happy tears over such a reunion. Resus and Cleo had to join in too. "Luke, I've missed you so much." I said, my tears soaking into his trademark orange shirt. "I had a dream last night. I was told you were being punished a lot by the BBC, but they gave you one hopeful slice of cake - me." "Aaaawww, that's the sweetest thing you ever said to us." said Cleo. "You know what? That's what I told you before we left for our sleepover," said Luke, "It's something you'll remember forever." he said. "Yeah, forever." I whispered into his ear.
"And ever….and ever…and ever…and ever…and ever…."
