Pairing: Light x Subaru.

Summary:

The greatest benediction Makabe Subaru has received is Tenryu Light's light.

"Subaru, is your face red?"

"Darn it! You always notice things I'd rather you didn't!"

"Oh? I shouldn't have noticed?"

"You shouldn't have! You shouldn't have!" Subaru gets Light in a headlock, smooshing him down by his hair.

Ren would love to know more.

So does Subaru.

What else was Light aware of? Was that perceptiveness of his extrasensory?

Boy cadet, am I that transparent to you? Are your instincts so enhanced, I should vanish right now?

However, had Subaru gone the way of his Ghosts, he wouldn't have corner moments such as this with Light. The legitimate flashes of light that dug him up out of his hidden truth.

Under the heavy weight of the soil he was buried under – the prospects others had buried him under which he had done little to stop – there was this shard of light.

That he himself as he was…was enough.

He didn't need to be somebody. He could just be him, and that was enough. That he was enough.

Can I be the real me?

The lasers are flashing and the confetti's flying. The crowd is roaring and the lights are shining.

The audience was superfluous window dressing. They could be alone and Subaru could still feel this amazing. Stardom and Subaru weren't friends. Subaru didn't want to be a star. Not in the way his parents wanted him to be.

Subaru only wanted to be Subaru.

Light, I don't have to live up to anything. You see me and I'm amazing. I am amazing.

Light saw that, regardless of whether he understood what it meant to Subaru that he did.
