"Okay, I finally managed to get Kanna into bed… I think."

The redhead workaholic gave a thumbs up from the comfort of the kotatsu as the blonde dragon wiped away the sweat from her forehead, conquering the herculean task of putting an elementary student to sleep on a school night.

"Next time, can we not decide this over a game of rock paper scissors? You know I can't beat you at that no matter how many times I try."

"You did a good job though…" Kobayashi let out a yawn as she rested her head on the floor, a few empty cans knocked over atop the table.

"Are you planning on sleeping here tonight?"

"Probably… It's warmer under here than in my room."

"I see." Tohru disappeared into the redhead's room, much to the workaholic's indifference or lack of energy to care.

A few seconds later, the maid reappeared again with two pillows in her hand, kneeling down to put one under Kobayashi's head while placing the other beside it. Finally content, Tohru shuffled under the kotatsu herself, deciding she would keep her 'master' company for sometime.

"Does that feel better?"

"Yes, thanks Tohru."

"Just let me know when you're ready to sleep and I'll turn the lights off."

"Mmm." Kobayashi shifted under the covers, getting comfortable as she faced away from the maid.

"Ne, Tohru?"

"Yeah?"

"I've been curious about something for a while…"

The maid looked curiously at the workaholic's back, waiting for what she had to say next.

"Do you have any like… time manipulating powers?"

"Umm, not that I'm aware of. Why do you ask?"

"Nothing really. It's just… before I met you and everyone else, I used to imagine what it would be like to go back in time. Sometimes with magic, sometimes with a time machine. That part didn't really matter though..."

"But you don't have thoughts like that anymore? Not after we met?"

"Not as often as I used to, no."

"I see…" Tohru adjusted her position under the kotatsu. "Mind if I ask something a little personal then?"

"Like?"

"If you had a time machine, where would you go?"

"There was a sports festival in my youth, probably the same grade as Kanna is now. I ended up winning some silly competition for the class, and as nice as it was, my parents weren't there to see it. I'm over it now, but I'll admit I was a bit upset neither of them were there to support me back then."

"If I could, I'd go back to that day, just to beg one of them to come."

"So…" Tohru mused. "That's what you'd want to go back to? That sports festival…?"

Kobayashi smiled. "Probably. It wouldn't have hurt to give my younger self a fond memory to look back on, right?"

"Mmm, I guess not."

"What about you? Anywhere you'd go back to? Time machine or magic or whatever?"

Tohru didn't answer though, even after seconds and soon a minute passed. Kobayashi finally turned around after the silence was becoming uncomfortable, seeing the dragon staring up at the wall with a blank expression.

"Tohru? Are you okay?" The redhead nudged the dragon, finally getting her attention.

"Huh? Oh, yeah… Sorry. My mind just wandered somewhere else for a moment there."

Kobayashi took a moment before putting a hand on the dragon's shoulder. "It's fine. The past doesn't matter much anyway, not when we have the present to live in... I'm content just living in the now rather than thinking about how things should've been before."

"And that's because I have you now. Right, Tohru?"

The dragon took a moment for the redhead's words to sink in, looking into her cute, red dead fish eyes before letting out a smile.

"Yeah, that's right."

"Mmm." Kobayashi lay down on her back, closing her eyes. "I'm turning in for the night. Goodnight, Tohru."

The dragon, by just the flick of her wrist, turned the lights in the living room off. With the words of comfort still lingering within her head, Tohru shuffled closer to the workaholic before resting on her pillow, snuggling up with the woman who changed everything. The woman who meant every dimension to her.

The woman she loved.

"Goodnight, Kobayashi-san. See you tomorrow."
