We're back with Seven Days of Halloween for the fifth year in a row! Last year we did all crossovers, this year we're doing fandoms that I hadn't written for before 2022. Also, coincidentally, all of the stories this year feature LGBTQ relationships, that was not on purpose lol.

Day 1 (Oct. 25th) - The Mitchells VS. The Machines

Day 2 (Oct. 26th) - Sonic

Day 3 (Oct. 27th) - Victorious

Day 4 (Oct. 28th) - Mythic Quest

Day 5 (Oct. 29th) - Zombies

Day 6 (Oct. 30th) - Our Flag Means Death

Day 7 (Oct. 31st) - Scooby Doo

I've been wanting to write this concept for a while and the Seven Days of Halloween challenge finally made me do it. Also it's my birthday :D

Enjoy!

It was hard to tell, but it seemed that Ian had been in a worse mood than usual. Some people had speculated that his particularly bad mood was correlated to Poppy's particularly good mood. Other people speculated that it was due to Halloween. Both groups were somewhat correct.

Of course, Ian didn't know his bad mood was in any way connected to Poppy's good mood. All he knew was that he had extended the olive branch and had the whole olive grove burned down in response.

It had gone like this:

Ian: I'd like to do something with Brendan

Ian: You know, for Halloween

Shannon: He doesn't want to see you

Ian: Come on, at least ask him first

Shannon: We have plans for Halloween, anyway. And those plans do not include you.

So Ian had been in a sour apple mood all week, while Poppy was, inversely, in a candy apple mood. She no longer even seemed to mind that Ian had crankily vetoed her ideas for a group Halloween costume and a company party.

"I don't care if people dress up but we're not making a big deal out of a stupid holiday. There will be no party or company mandated celebrating, I expect everyone to be just as productive on Halloween as any day of the year."

"You should dress up as the Grinch," Poppy teased.

"That's not even the right holiday."

"Come on, Ian, where's your Halloween spirit?"

"Why are you so obsessed with Halloween?"

"Halloween is fun! Getting to dress up and spend time with family?"

Ian thought about how his offer to spend time with his son had been rejected.

"I thought your family was in another country."

Poppy frowned momentarily before regaining a smile, "I am spending this Halloween with my partner's family."

"You have a partner?" Ian sputtered, once again feeling remarkably isolated.

"Yep. I'm not some lonely hag like you thought."

"Well, enjoy your Halloween, I suppose." Ian said, trying not to sound like a lonely hag.

"Thanks. You too."

Ian had no intention of enjoying his Halloween. He didn't dress up and he scoffed at the cheesy costumes his employees wore. Brad and David wore marching bumblebee costumes, which Ian assumed was the result of much blackmailing on someone's part, and Poppy was dressed as a kangaroo, even more chipper today than she had been all week.

When he got off work Ian went home, got trashed, and stalked Shannon's Instagram while a low budget horror movie played in the background.

In the morning he would connect the dots about his ex and his son being dressed as a kangaroo and a joey. In the morning he would think to question Poppy's Halloween spirit. For now, he threw himself a Halloween pity party and drank away his heavy solitude.

Well that ended on a low note.

Maybe I'll write a sequel eventually
