I tried to make a Gruvia fic. I hope I got some and I hope it turned out nice.
I wanted to vary things. There's very little about Gray and Cana, this, too, is a contribution to this friendship that I personally find FT's most underrated. Let me know what you think. Anyway, have fun...
I do not own the rights to Fairy Tail.
Two figures, one taller and one shorter, walked through the city at the end of the day. The sun was setting, dyeing the sky an orange glow. It was a pleasant late afternoon, the temperature was ideal for outdoor walks and romantic encounters. However, those two people weren't in that place for fun. They were two mages returning from hard work and they stopped in that city to spend the night and return to their guild the next day.
The shorter mage was crestfallen and muttering incomprehensible words, which was deeply irritating her mate. He walked ahead of her and turned his face annoyed.
"Want to stop complaining, Juvia!", Gajeel said angrily. "You've been like this whole damn mission!"
"Juvia can't help it, Gajeel-kun," she replied with a sigh. "She misses her precious Gray-samaaa so much!" she dreamed just as she said his name.
The Dragon Slayer rolled his eyes and huffed in annoyance. "Gray-sama! Gray-sama! To this day I don't understand what you saw in that perverted stripper."
Juvia glared at him, more than Gajeel expected. "Gajeel-kun wouldn't understand even if you rubbed it in his face!", she huffed and passed him, walking in front of him. Gajeel rolled his eyes and followed her.
The pair walked around town looking for a hotel to spend the night. In the center of town, finally, they found a place worth staying. It was large and comfortable, with large, private rooms, great for a couple of tired mages returning from a grueling job.
"Finally something decent in this town," Gajeel complained as he entered the building.
"Be more cordial, Gajeel-kun", Juvia scolded him. He glared at her and huffed without saying anything else.
They went to the lobby and reception, where a man of medium height was waiting for them, smiling. "How can I help you?" the receptionist asked cordially.
"Isn't it obvious?", Gajeel said irritated by his rather stupid question.
"Gajeel-kun!", Juvia caught his attention, for being so rude. The Dragon Slayer shrugged, letting Juvia take charge.
Juvia smiled affectionately and her face showed happiness and confidence, she had a special glow that overflowed from her, ever since she met the ice mage from Fairy Tail. "Sorry my friend, he's a bit rude," she said and Gajeel snorted beside her. "We want to spend the night, please," she said.
"Oh yes, of course," the receptionist said happily. "Will the young couple want the romantic package? We have many options."
Juvia and Gajeel looked at him amazed and scared. "C... couple!", Juvia screamed desperately. "Juvia and Gajeel-kun aren't… they're nothing like that!" she explained.
"Exactly. We're mages and we're just looking for a place to rest," Gajeel said seriously. "Besides, I have good taste. I would never get involved with this weird girl."
Despite Gajeel's provocation, Juvia paid no attention. She was too involved in her thoughts. Juvia had a terrified expression on her face and fear took over her.
"What will Gray-sama think if he thinks she and Gajeel-kun are dating!?" she asked desperately. "Gray-sama, it's not what you're thinking! Juvia and Gajeel-kun are just friends and nothing more".
Gajeel, seeing her all agitated, got annoyed. He took her by the arms and shook her out of the trance she was in. "Wake up, woman! Stop raving like an idiot!" After his attack, Juvia came to herself, looking at the iron mage for a few seconds.
She noticed his hands on top of her and immediately she slapped him across the face. "W… what does Gajeel-kun intend? Do you want to take Juvia away from Gray-sama and end our relationship!?".
The Dragon Slayer looked at her without understanding anything and with a bead of sweat on his face. "You crazy woman! What do you have on your mind!? I don't want anything to do with you and I don't want to end your non-existent relationship!" he snarled and turned to the receptionist. "We want two bedrooms!" he yelled angrily.
After the receptionist handed them the keys they went to their respective rooms and got dressed before meeting in the hallway, as their room was right next to each other. They agreed to have dinner at the hotel's restaurant before going to bed, after all they hadn't eaten anything for a long time.
"Juvia is so sorry about her attack, Gajeel-kun," she apologized in a low voice.
"Forget it, Rain Woman. As if I didn't know about your tantrums," he said bluntly. He glared at her, however. "But it would be funny to see how your precious stripper would react to knowing we were mistaken for a couple. Gihihi !".
"Don't say such a thing!", Juvia shouted in fear.
They went down to the restaurant, hoping to have a good meal. However, at the entrance Juvia stopped on alert, looking around and focusing on every face she saw, like a predator stalking helpless prey. Gajeel looked at her and found her behavior strange, but what did he know about her anyway? Since they joined Fairy Tail, she's been someone else.
"Hey Juvia", he called to her. "Want to walk soon!" The water mage took him by the arm and dragged him behind a column in the middle of the restaurant. "By the hell do you mean what are you doing?"
"Gray-sama, it's here," she replied.
"What!?" he said in surprise. "How can you know?" he said in exasperation.
"Why does Juvia have a Graydar . She always knows where Gray-sama is," she replied.
Gajeel listened and couldn't contain his laughter. He laughed out loud, drawing the attention of almost the entire restaurant. "HAHAHAHA! A GAYDAR! Now I know why you're always after that pervert!"
Juvia looked at him irritated and covered his mouth so he wouldn't say anything else. "Juvia didn't say gaydar . She said GRAYDAR! You understood!? GRAYDAR," she glared at him menacingly. Gajeel nodded in a cold sweat.
"If you think so, where is he? And why don't you go over there and talk to him instead of hiding behind a lamppost?"
"Shut up! That's none of Gajeel-kun's business," she said slightly irritated.
Juvia scanned the entire restaurant until her eyes stopped on the most beautiful image she could ever have. A man with close, messy hair, shirtless, showing off all that perfection of chest and abs, those deep gray eyes that drive her crazy just looking at them. Juvia was admiring that perfect form, dreaming about their wedding day, the house they would live in, the children they would have and their perfect life.
"Apparently she found him", thought Gajeel looking at her hopelessly.
"Gray-sama is so perfect," she said dreamily. "But what is he doing here?" she asked herself.
"Maybe he's on a job?", Gajeel replied ironically, Juvia looked at him bored.
"Juvia knows… Would he accept Juvia's help?", she asked herself dreamily. "We would make a perfect duo and for sure he will declare himself to Juvia. Let's get married and have 33 babies!"
" Uh ... Juvia!?", Gajeel called out to her, snapping her out of her reverie. "Sorry to destroy your dream, but..." he pointed to the table where Gray was sitting.
Juvia looked where he was pointing and what she saw shattered her dream. Cana Alberona, carrying two bottles and wearing nothing more than her usual bra, sat down across from the ice mage with a wide, silly grin on her face.
"What is she doing here, with my Gray?" she said, a little frighteningly.
"Maybe they're on a date. Gihihi!", Gajeel said and Juvia turned to face him looking devilishly. Gajeel held up his hands in surrender, but he was smirking. He found it fun to tease her about Gray, even if it was potentially dangerous.
"We have to get closer and hear what they are talking about. Juvia won't let any rival of love steal her Gray-sama", she said with determination and pulled Gajeel with her.
"Why did you bring me on this mission, Cana?" Gray asked as soon as the brunette sat down at the table.
She took a sip from the bottle and looked at him sideways. "Do I need a reason to bring my best friend on a job?" she said sly and pouting.
"Cana..."
"What's it!? We haven't done anything together in a while. I missed my friend", she said with a needy expression.
"Cana, we both know that's not true," Gray said, massaging his temple.
Cana looked at him and shrugged, giving up on being a cute friend. "Fine! The quest called for two mages and you were the only one available," she said and took another sip from the bottle.
"Much better. And why this one in particular?" Gary sipped his drink from his bottle and looked seriously at Cana.
"It's an interesting job, Gray. And it pays well," she smiled heartily.
"Sure! The fact that we are in a wine region and the request was made by one of the owners did not influence his decision at all", he looked at her seriously.
Cana looked at him the same way, but laughed out loud after a while. "HAHAHA… I think you got me. Come on Gray, it's going to be fun anyway."
The ice mage, who had a frown on his face, softened his expression and smiled. "It's been a long time, it's not Cana. I missed our work together," he looked at her with a smile.
"Awww ! I'll be thrilled," she said sarcastically. "By the way…Gray clothes," she warned him.
"Damn it!" he huffed and went around the restaurant looking for the clothes he had thrown somewhere.
In another corner of the restaurant, Juvia and Gajeel were sitting trying to disguise their presence. Juvia stared at Gray and Cana, while Gajeel tried to hide it and pull his friend's gaze to another corner.
"This is ridiculous, Juvia. Go and talk to them at once, damn it!" snorted the Dragon Slayer.
"Gajeel-kun is only here to hear what they're talking about, not to tip Juvia," she snapped. "Now tell her what they're talking about."
"I haven't already! They are talking about their mission"
"But what kind of mission? Where? For how long? Have they set the wedding date yet?", Juvia asked desperately.
"Calm down, Woman! They didn't say much. And your precious pervert is looking around for his clothes", Gajeel said and Juvia sighed, settling more lightly in her chair.
"Sorry Juvia, Gajeel-kun. When it comes to Gray-sama she loses all sense"
Gajeel looked at her intently. "And I don't know. They're just on a stupid mission. As we were a little. Now calm down and let's order something to eat. I'm starving!"
"It's ok!", Juvia huffed with a pout of indignation. "But keep an ear out for whatever they say," she sighed looking in wonder at her precious ice mage. Gajeel looked at her and sighed exacerbated, defeated and giving up on his friend.
Once Gray had gathered all of his clothes, he returned to the table with Cana as the waiter came over to their table to take their orders.
"What are you ordering, Cana?" Gray asked, looking at the menu.
"I don't know, there are so many options", she made a thoughtful expression. "What about you? Remember there are no Franks Caramade here ".
"I know. I'm not an idiot!" Gray replied. "But I don't know either", they were undecided, until Cana decided to ask for it, she got tired of waiting and finding out what she wanted.
"Okay... I want curry and for him curry chicken and fries", Cana asked the waiter who took the orders.
"Hey! Who said I was going to ask for that?" Gray said scowling at her.
She looked at him the same way, defiantly. "Was you going to order something different?"
The ice mage stared at her for a few seconds and shrugged. "No, this is fine."
"I knew it...", the brunette boasted.
"Anything to drink?" asked the waiter.
"We're fine, thanks," Gray said. The waiter nodded and left, taking their order into the kitchen. "You don't have to ask for me," he said looking at the brunette in front of him.
"And why not? I know what you like"
"I can do this by myself," Gray said sullenly.
Cana huffed in annoyance and took a long swig of her drink. "Then we looked for a Franks Caramade to improve that mood of yours."
"I am no longer a child!"
"Maybe, but your mood always improves when you eat your Franks", she laughed heartily making him embarrassed. "Remember? I always bought one when you were upset. It always worked... HAHAHA!"
"Oh, shut up!" he blushed sheepishly.
"Ahn! You should thank me! I introduced you to your favorite food. If it wasn't for me, you would never have met it", she said looking at him with disdain.
"You didn't introduce me to anything! You used me as a guinea pig, always giving me weird things to try before you ate them," he replied, staring at her.
Cana looked to the side, not staring at him and pouting. "I had to make sure I wasn't eating anything bad"
"Cana!" he shouted indignantly.
"Oh, okay, okay!" she waved her hand dismissively. Gray felt defeated.
At Gajeel and Juvia's table, the Dragon Slayer had a listening ear to the other mages' conversation, not willingly, but practically obliged by the water mage. She was looking forward to anything he might hear and tell her as they enjoyed the meal the waiter had brought them.
"Did you hear something, Gajeel-kun?", Juvia asked anxiously.
He looked at her without much patience and unhappy with the situation he was in. "Nothing relevant. Just stupid things"
"Say everything. Juvia needs to know all the details." Gajeel huffed in annoyance, but what could he do? It wasn't like he could go against her anyway.
"Okay… Apparently that drunk introduced some Frank Calamale or something to him. She used him as a guinea pig and they will go out later to eat this stuff," Gajeel said.
Juvia looked at him startled. "Did she introduce him to Franks Caramade? But it's Gray-sama's favorite food! He met his favorite food by her." Her expression changed to one of sadness and then one of fury and then one of determination. Gajeel looked at her scared, not understanding anything else, if he ever understood. "Juvia needs to do something. She will make the most delicious buns in the world and they will be all Gray-sama will ever need to feed himself. No rival of love will have the honor to present Gray-sama's favorite food. That's up to Juvia Lockser alone!"
Gajeel looked at her surprised and scared. He tried to hold her in the chair she was in, to keep her from doing anything stupid. "Calm down Juvia!", he said. "They're just friends, they're here on a quest like any mage would and it looks like they're just going to look for this weird thing after they've had dinner. There's not much to it!"
Juvia looked at him darkly. "Of course there are… And we'll follow them after here. I want to see where they go on their own. We have to find out what rooms they are in."
"Would you like to calm down, Juvia, you crazy woman! Let's not follow those two idiots. Let's go back to our rooms and sleep. Tomorrow we have to go back to the guild. That's what we're going to do, got it!?"
"Juvia can't do this, Gajeel-kun. She has to stay and protect Gray-sama."
The Dragon Slayer put his hand on his forehead, tired of all that madness from his friend. "And why?" he asked, not wanting to know the answer.
"How so why? Haven't you seen how Cana-san dresses? It is obvious that she is going to seduce my precious Gray-sama. Juvia can't let her take away his purity. That's up to Juvia alone."
Gajeel made an expression of disgust and disgust. "That was awesome, Juvia! I don't want to hear any more. If you want to follow them, go ahead. I'm going to sleep," he huffed angrily.
"You're a terrible friend, Gajeel-kun!", Juvia said indignantly and dissatisfied. Gajeel shrugged, not caring what she said.
The rest of dinner, they were listening and spying on what Cana and Gray were doing and what they were talking about. They just saw them talking happily and laughing, sometimes Gray looked annoyed with something Cana said or did, however Cana often showed the same irritation as he did when the ice mage teased her during dinner. It was obvious what a good dynamic they had.
After dinner, Cana ordered a bottle of wine and followed Gray around town looking for a place that sold Franks Caramade. Gajeel, afraid that Juvia would do something stupid accompanied her, following their guildmates. He noticed how good Juvia was at chasing, in no time the other two mages noticed they were being followed by them.
Walking around town, Gray and Cana finally found a place that sold the Franks. It was a kind of bistrot, they settled in and ordered two Franks Caramade . They ate them perfectly, as they were designed to be eaten. The smile on both their faces was evident and the good atmosphere that surrounded them was clear. Seeing them, Juvia can't help but feel jealous of them. She wanted to be there with him.
