Disclaimer: I do not own the characters from Monster Hunter, only how the story goes. The characters and world of Monster Hunter belongs to Capcom. The only thing that I do own are the OC's of the story. I do apologize for any errors in grammar and/or if I was not accurate in reference to something.

A/N: I honestly have no idea how big this story is going to get. I do hope that it goes over ten chapters, as what I hope for all of my bigger stories. After that, who knows.

Chapter One: The Storm

1 Year and a quarter ago…

A potentially beautiful day came over the coast of Georgia. Clouds were starting to roll in as a mini-van pulled up into a parking lot right outside of a harbor. Stepping out of the car was a young man with black hair, a black T-shirt and brown pants. He wore white sneakers on his feet. He quickly pulled out his wallet to make sure that he had everything that he needed. He pulled out his I.D. card and it read Jacob Danie Orr, age 17. As he walked to the back of the mini-van, he stopped when he heard the sound of his phone, the Iron Man ringtone, going off. Jacob took it out of his pocket and looked to see who it was. Jacob saw that it was his mother and he answered it, "Hey, Mom. Yeah, I just pulled in.

"Yeah, they should show up just about any minute now." He said and held the phone between his ear and his shoulder. Once his hands were free, Jacob opened up the back door to reveal a few supplies for what looked like camping trip. He held the phone in his hands again and said, "They're supposed to bring their own supplies. And yeah, I managed to get Uncle Simon to lend me the keys to his boat."

Jacob went and took some of the supplies out of the van via a box and started to carry it out onto the docks. He continued to talk, "Is Dad still not back yet?

"Okay, I'll at least wait until he calls." Jacob promised when he reached the boat. He hung up the phone before trying to board the boat. It wasn't too big, but at least it was a lot bigger than a rowboat or a dinghy. There was a cabin below deck and it came with a sail. Jacob took the box below deck and placed it in a corner, making sure to leave room for the others' stuff. Jacob looked around the place to look at the small kitchen area, the door that lead to the bathroom and any other necessities that his uncle had acquired for the vessel. He quickly turned and went back to head for the mini-van.

It took him a few minutes to get all of the other boxes from the van. Once everything was on board, he checked to make sure that he had everything that he packed for the trip; extra food, a change of clothes, a first aid kit and other essentials. He brought a book or two to keep him occupied while his friends were doing things that didn't really appeal to him. When he was finished, Jacob then went to sit up in the cabin of the boat. He placed his phone on the dash next to the steering wheel to wait for either a call from his father or from his friends. As he waited he watched as the clouds rolled by the window of the boat. The teen didn't have to wait for much longer as the ringtone played again and he picked it up. Answering the phone he said, "Hey, Dad. Yeah, I'm all ready to go. Just waiting on my friends to show up.

"Don't worry, there haven't been big power outages like that for a while, so I think we'll be okay." Jacob said to reassure his father.

He sat back against the chair. When his father said something in particular to him, Jacob and he shook his head, "No, they are coming. We've been planning this trip for spring break since February. I made sure to check with them last night."

He suddenly got a text alert on his phone and he looked at it. Jacob's face fell when he saw that his father was telling the truth. His so-called friends were all hanging out down at a theme park in Florida. Jacob was hoping that his friends would show up, but lately they seem to be drifting away from him and to another crowd. And Jacob had been preparing for this trip, what with the boating lessons and learning how to rough it in the wilderness. He had much more practice with the former than the latter, but he felt that this weekend would help to improve on those skills. He was starting to wonder if they ever meant it when they said that they were coming. Jacob was brought out of his thoughts when his father said something, "Oh, sorry. Yeah, I just got your message, Dad. Thanks for letting me know.

"Yeah, I guess I'll go on ahead." Jacob nodded when his father had asked him. Before he hung up he said, "I'll see you guys when I get back. And I'll be sure to thank Uncle Simon when I get back."

Hanging up the phone, Jacob placed it back into his pocket. He was really bummed about learning about his friends, but he didn't plan on letting it ruin his trip. He moved out of the cabin to get ready for the voyage ahead. He moved to one of the mooring lines and undid it. But as soon as he moved to undo the second one that was holding the boat to the dock, his phone started buzzing again. Jacob removed it from his pocket and took a look at what it said. It showed an alert for an incoming storm warning. Deciding to wait until it passed, Jacob moved back over to tie the first line. When he believed it to be secure enough, he moved below deck to take a nap. But little did he know that his rope work needed work and the other line was badly frayed at one end. And to make things worse, his uncle's boat was docked at the end of the pier. Thunder started to boom as darker clouds rolled in over the pier.

One hour later…

Another boom of thunder made Jacob jolt awake and he ended up falling out of the bed. He groaned when he landed on his side before sitting up. He looked out one of the windows to see that the rain was coming down pretty heavily. Rubbing his head he thought, "Gee, I may not be able to head out today. Maybe it would be best to wait until tomorrow."

He suddenly put off when he could feel the boat rocking pretty hard. He moved to the window and his eyes widened when he saw that the boat wasn't tied to the docks anymore. Matter of fact, he couldn't see any signs of the harbor. Quickly grabbing his coat, he dashed out into the storm. He held his arm over his already covered head and made his way up to the cabin of the boat. Thankfully there was a roof over the steering wheel as Jacob moved to start the engine. It took a few turns of the keys to get it running, but Jacob ended up pumping a fist when he heard it go, "Yes!

"Now, I just need to steer myself back to shore." He said and started looking about for which way to go. When he looked out the window of the cabin, he still didn't see any signs of land around. Deciding to use a little help, he looked at his compass to see which way he needed to go. The needle of the compass was pointing to the left, so he figured that north was that way. He needed to head West. He steered the boat around to head in that direction before turning on the SATNAV for a little more aid. But when he turned it on, he saw that the boat had drifted halfway between the shore line and the island he was meaning to go to.

Jacob knew that it was really risky, especially since he was borrowing his uncle's boat, but he thought that if he were careful he could get it back when his trip was over. Deciding to take the chance, Jacob quickly turned the boat around to where it pointed towards the island. Then pushing throttle full forward, the boat moved forward through the water. The boat seemed to bounce with the waves as it sailed across the sea. Jacob smiled as he could see the island appearing as a little dot on the horizon. He slowed the boat down a little when he heard his phone go off again and quickly pulled it out to take a look. It was another text message from his father, but this time it had a picture of him and his mother waving to them. And underneath it read; HAVE FUN AND STAY SAFE.

While keeping his eyes between the rough seas and his phone, Jacob quickly texted a response back to them.

Love you guys too. Will miss you every second and can't wait to tell you all about it.

Love,

Jacob

When he thought about telling them about this little part of the trip, he was sure that they weren't going to be too happy that he had willingly put himself in danger. But he felt right now that it would wait until he got back. For in the moment right now, he felt so alive as he could feel the spirit of adventure. Jacob placed the phone back into his pocket and turned his attention back to the ocean in front of him.

(End of track)

Little did he know that the fun times were about to be abruptly cut off.

(Cue Worlds Beyond Our Senses from Monster Hunter)

But just as the island in front of him was starting to grow bigger the closer he got, Jacob's eyes started to widen when he saw something odd ahead of the boat. Not too far ahead of him, it looked as if there were large pillars standing up right in a row before the island. Behind each pillar another one stood just as tall and forbidden looking as the others. And even though he was still a good distance from them, they looked as if they had large glyphs about them. That was when he noticed something odd about the storm. From what he could see, the storm clouds were starting to darken and the lightning looked like it was coming down hard and all over the place. He didn't know why, but he felt that there was something really off about the storm. Deciding that it wasn't worth the risk, Jacob quickly turned the wheel to get to safety. He kept the throttle down to the max as he could only hope that he would beat the storm. Jacob glanced out the window to one of the doors of the cabin and could see that the storm was quickly starting to gain on him. He soon found himself trying to fight against even rougher seas as the storm progressed towards him.

Jacob strained as he tried to keep the steering wheel straight while also keeping the throttle forward. The rocking of the waves didn't help as it made the boat bounce up and down. A bolt of lightning came down a just a few yards from the boat, making him jump a bit. It also worried him, for it meant that either the bizarre portion of the storm was getting closer or already over him. He winced when even more lightning bolts struck down around him. Jacob became really worried when the bolts came down on the deck of the ship. He jumped when some of them started around the cabin. But in doing so, he let go of the steering wheel and the boat started to spin about the water. From his spot on the ground, he was really wishing that someone would come to save him right about now.

Seeing that he was on his own, Jacob got back up and quickly moved to regain control of the steering wheel. The fighting seas made it difficult to turn the wheel around. When he looked at the SATNAV, he became really worried when the screen was full of static. He then looked to the compass but quirked a brow when he saw it spinning rapidly. Another bolt of lightning slammed into the spot in front of the cabin and it sent Jacob flying backwards. He cried out in pain when his back hit the wall pretty hard and he slumped to the floor. The booming of thunder, the flashing of lightning, the cold feeling of the floor and falling of rain was the only things he registered as he began to slip out of consciousness.

(End of track)

But just as his eyes started to close, the skies started to brighten and the sounds of the rainforest filled his ears for a quick second. And then, all was still and silent for the boy

Author's Note: Well, we seem to be getting underway in the story. I know that this is a lot shorter than the prologue, but I'll be sure to try and make the next chapter bigger. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you next time.
