Chrom was at his wit's end.
Ever since he had known him, Robin had kept the concerning habit of falling asleep wherever he felt like instead of in a normal and safe place like a regular person. Chrom had found Robin asleep in wagons full of sharp weapons, balanced precariously in the branches of a tree, and once, he had even found him snoozing atop the parapets of castle Ylisstol.
What made things worse was that unlike most of the Shepherds, Robin lacked a spouse to look out for him when he got up to such antics. It wasn't that Chrom was judging Robin for his nigh narcoleptic tendencies, Chrom himself knew he had his own bad habits and character quirks that were irksome or difficult to deal with, but it had reached the point where Chrom had begun to fear for his friend's safety.
Because of this, Chrom was elated after they had rescued Tiki in Valm, and she and Robin began to grow close. Finally, someone else could look out for Robin when he inevitably fell asleep in dangerous locations. Chrom loved Robin like a brother, but he had a kingdom to lead and his own family to look after, so when Robin and Tiki's wedding day arrived, Chrom was nearly as happy as the couple themselves.
Unfortunately, it turned out that Naga's Voice was an even worse chronic napper than Robin, which in retrospect, did make sense, but it did little for Chrom's peace of mind.
Now, Chrom found himself looking out for not just one lump in the road but two, and it was beginning to wear on the nerves of all the Shepherds.
Once, shortly after dinner, Tiki had fallen asleep at the table in the mess tent and refused to be moved. Instead of attempting to rouse his wife, Robin decided to cover her with his cloak, lay his head next to hers, and pass into the realm of dreams as well.
Another time, while the Shepherds were resting after rescuing a Valmese village from the Conqueror's armies, Robin and Tiki had borrowed a small fishing boat and gone on a date of sorts, only for them both to fall asleep in the middle of the lake and float into the white water rapids flowing away from the village while the rest of the Shepherds panicked trying to figure out how to save them. When they finally retrieved the pair, they were still fast asleep, unaware of the danger they had just been in, thanks to the fast-moving river water.
Robin and Tiki caused a great deal of undue stress to Chrom and their friends. No matter how Chrom pleaded with Robin, it seemed to do no good. Robin seemed almost determined not to take care of himself and work to exhaustion, while Tiki was happy to catch a few z's. It wasn't until they found another of Lucina's allies from the future that Chrom felt vindicated on the couple's chronic napping problem.
Morgan was an odd duck. She was Robin and Tiki's daughter from the future, but the only things she seemed to take from them were Tiki's draconic appearance and Robin's love of tactics and strategy. That and Robin's amnesia. She was a ball of enthusiasm and energy that rivalled even the most eccentric of Lucina's other future friends, and chaos seemed to follow in her wake in a way that Chrom had previously only attributed to the antics of Lissa during the early days of the Shepherds.
It was refreshing in many ways, but also trying, and Chrom sympathized with his friend as he struggled to acclimate to suddenly becoming a parent to a child already in their teenage years. That was until Morgan proved she had inherited one more thing from her parents.
During the final days of the war with Valm, the Shepherds stopped to rest from their march towards Walharts castle. It wasn't ideal since it left them without escape routes if they found themselves under attack, but they set up camp on the edge of a cliff so that Ylisse's best army could minimize the directions from which they might be attacked. It may not have been the best tactical option, but they lacked a better one so close to Walharts territory.
Morgan proved to be just as bad of a chronic napper as her parents, if not worse, when she decided to lay down for a nap after a hard day's march on the cliff's edge. It gave her parents a heart attack and a taste of their own medicine, especially after she turned over in her sleep before Robin and Tiki could reach her and rolled right over the edge. Thankfully by some miracle of Naga, perhaps looking out for her future granddaughter, Morgan's coat snagged on a tree root jutting from the cliff face, and she hung there precariously, sleeping all the while.
Chrom would never wish harm on anyone, let alone his best friend's daughter. However, he was pleased when Robin came to him after the whole fiasco with an apology on his lips.
"I'm sorry, Chrom," he said. "I never realized how much stress I had caused you over the years until today."
Chrom smiled at his friend. "All is forgiven, Robin. Nobody got hurt, so all's well that ends well."
Robin grimaced. "I can't say I agree that it's okay. Now that I've been on the other side of that stress, I know how you must have felt. If Tiki hadn't transformed to fly down and catch her, Morgan might have fallen to her doom. As the shepherd's tactician, I should have been more responsible. I swear on my honour and our bond as brothers in arms, I will take better care of myself in the future and ensure my family's collective narcoleptic tendencies do not cause any more trouble."
"Slow down, Robin," Chrom insisted. "I accept your apology. I understand better than anyone how it feels. There is no need to explain it."
Robin winced. "Yes, I suppose you would. I-"
"Robin," Chrom said. "If you apologize, I'll take away your dessert rations."
Robin gasped. "You wouldn't!"
They both laughed, and Chrom clapped him on the back. "I do expect you to uphold your promise, though."
Robin snorted. "Chrom, I literally swore on our bond. You should have more faith in me than that."
Chrom laughed again, and Robin left Chrom's tent, chuckling to himself as well.
Later that night, as Chrom did the rounds for his turn on watch duty, he briefly peeked into Robin's family's tent and was met with a heartwarming sight. Despite the size of the cot, the whole family somehow managed to squeeze into it. As Chrom returned to his patrol, he idly wondered if he could convince his own family to have a cuddle pile with him.
