Nini and Ricky had been dating for about five months, it was the happiest five months of their lives so far. They had been best friends for years so really dating had been no different now there was more kissing and hand holding involved but they liked that, it was nice new development.
Nini was sound asleep in her bed when she heard a tapping on her window. She ignored it and turned over in her sleep. The rapping became more franic and loud. Nini sighed annoyed and looked out her window she met a pair of brown eyes, very familiar brown eyes. "Ricky?" Nini opened the window to let him in, he climbed in through the window and fell on the floor. "Oh! Are you ok?"
"Ow. Yeah I'm fine. Note to self always look where you're going to land when climbing through a window." Nini laughed and helped him up. "It's freezing out there."
"It's the middle of winter, why didn't you bring a coat? Did you skateboard here?" Nini asked him. "Yeah. I might have.."
"You're shivering.. C'mon let's get you a blanket." Nini lead him over to the couch and they both sat down, she handed him a blanket. He wrapped it around his shoulders. "Thanks."
"Ricky.. What's going on?"
Ricky sighed and looked off into the distance. "They're fighting again." he didn't need to say much more than that. Nini knew about Ricky's parents and how they had never really gotten along. "It's never gotten this bad, Neen.. I'm worried that.. What if they-" Ricky trailed off blinking back tears "they usually work it out, but the fighting has been happening more and more often and it's gotten so much worse.. I can't sleep much anymore."
"So when you left-
"They were still screaming at each other."
"Oh baby…"
Nini rubbed his shoulder then got up. "You want hot chocolate?"
"Yeah. that would be great." Ricky smiled Nini got up to make it and came back a little later with two steaming mugs. "You have mini marshmallows in that right?"
Nini smiled "of course! What good is hot chocolate without mini marshmallows?"
Ricky took a sip. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
"You're so good, i'm so lucky to have you Nini. With everything with my parents.. It's been really hard.." Ricky started to cry and Nini put his arms around him and held him. Tears came to her eyes, she hated seeing him sad. "It's ok. I'm here." they held each other in silence for a while. Nini pulled back and wiped the tears off his cheek. "You're staying here tonight."
"What about your moms? They might not like me staying over unannounced.."
"If they're mad they'll have to get through me." Nini smiled
Ricky laughed and kissed her, she kissed him back. Nini put her hands on his face. "You're still so cold."
Nini laid against him on the couch, they were both wrapped in the blanket. "What are you?"
"I don't want you to freeze." Nini blushed Ricky smiled and kissed her on the forehead. "Your moms are going to kill both of us if they wake up and see their daughter tangled up on the couch with her boyfriend."
Nini shrugged "I don't care."
"We need to get some sleep, school tomorrow." Nini added "right" Ricky sighed.
"Do you think you can get to sleep?" Nini asked
Ricky smiled "yeah I think i'll manage. I can feel your heart beating."
Nini grinned "I can feel yours too."
Nini fell asleep shortly after. Ricky smiled and kissed her on the forehead, thinking about how lucky he was to have her in his life. He fell asleep to the sound of Nini's breathing.
