Another Re:Forgotten fic, why am I not surprised.

If I'm being honest I've been trying to avoid doing something like this given the premise and how every person within it throws logic out the window so that Subaru can be tortured, and forced to undergo this edge lord power trip that completely goes against his character until he winds up becoming just a big an asshole as the people he's trying to get back at.

But at the same time I love the idea. Maybe I just like seeing are boy suffer. Yeah I'm a sick bastard so what?

Anyways I've decided to do something a little different and test the waters a bit. Hopefully it doesn't blow up in my face. Fingers crossed.

A Chance Encounter

"Alright, you know the drill buddy, hand over your stuff before we have to hurt ya!"

A disheveled, rangy looking man snarled while waving the dagger in his hand dangerously close to his face.

Subaru gulped as he took a several steps back, away from the unhinged man who clearly wanted to take a shot at him and was just searching for an excuse.

'Oh man, my first day in a fantasy world and I'm getting robbed! Talk about rotten luck!' Subaru lamented, as he glanced behind his would be attacker to see two other men standing further away trying to appear just as intimidating as their friend.

It was times like this that a hero would normally appear in the nick of time to pull him out of this mess, at least that's what usually happened in the manga's he'd read. But a quick glance at his surroundings immediately threw out any chance of that from happening.

He was in an alleyway, far away from any prying eyes that might see what was happening and come to his aid. He powerless and at the mercy of these three thugs who had all the makings of your typical cookie cutter baddies.

Subaru shook his head.

Alright, no need to panic! Time to put on the old Natsuki charm!

"Come on guys stop messing around. Do I really look like the type of person who carries a whole lot of cash on him?" He smiled nervously trying to make himself appear as unthreatening as possible.

His would-be assailants paused and looked him over.

"Huh, he might have a point." One of them hummed.

"Maybe this was a waste of time after all." Another nodded his head in agreement.

"Yeah, just look how weak and scrawny he is." The third, mocked.

Okay ouch, was that really called for? Subaru's eyes twitched, but he kept up his shaky demeanor.

"Exactly! Now what do you say about just letting me go and we'll forget this whole mess happened." He offered.

They almost bought into it, almost being the key word, but unfortunately it wouldn't be an interesting story if the villains were reasonable.

"I think we'll pass, thanks. Besides, you've already seen our faces. Better to gut you now and leave you to bleed out so you don't blab on us later." The one holding the dagger said sinisterly

"Hold up! So, you never had any real intention of letting go from the start!" Subaru said accusingly, slightly offended that he'd been lied to right off the bat. Sure, they might have been thieves, but would it have killed them to act the part?

"Enough talking! Time to die!"

Subaru swallowed in seeing that the situation was no longer in his favor. Despite his reservations desperate times called for desperate measures. He had to unleash his secret technique.

He opened his mouth,

"SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE ME!"

He shouted at the top of lungs, startling his attackers.

"What the fuck! You're calling for help! You bastard, at least die like a man!"

Subaru smirked triumphantly. No way pal! It was a dirty move sure, but at least now someone would come to his rescue!

There was silence.

Anything second now.

More silence.

They'll be here any moment, don't worry.

"…"

Subaru slumped over in defeat.

"N-No one's coming, are they?"

Oh, and would you look at that his muggers were even more pissed. Perfect, this day just kept getting better and better.

"I don't know what that was about, but it doesn't matter, your dead meat kid!"

Subaru raised his hand frantically. "H-Hold on, let's talk about this for a second–"

His pleas fell on deaf ears, the thieves were no longer content on stripping Subaru of his possessions, no that ship had long sailed. At this point his attackers would only be content with taking his life.

'Shit! I can't believe I'm going to die in some alleyway like some cheap throw away character! This wasn't what was supposed to happen!'

"Say your prayers!" The man holding the blade charged, with a crazed look on his face.

Subaru stumbled backward, he could no longer hide his fear.

"N-No don't!" the scared, dark haired youth screamed out.

"Halt villains! I can't allow this evil to continue!"

A bell-like voice chimed, stopping everyone in their tracks.

Stepping into what little light filtered into the alley appeared a woman wearing an odd white cloak with two pointed ears sticking out from the top of its head and by the tone of her voice she clearly wasn't pleased with what she was seeing.

"Mind your own business bitch!"

"Yeah, get lost before we hurt you!"

The men said aggressively, trying to get her to back down. The woman was not the least bit impressed by their intimidation tactics and it showed.

"This is your final warning. I won't ask again. Leave this citizen alone or I will be forced to take drastic measures!" she said matter-of-factly as if it would be an easy task to dispose of these troublesome foes.

"What the fuck did you just say? Do you have a death wish or something?" The men scowled as their attention had entirely shifted on the new arrival allowing Subaru to slip away undetected.

"Shall I take that as a no then?" The girl said seriously as the air around her began to freeze and magic power seeped into the air.

"Take it however you want! After I'm through with you, you're going to wish you hadn't –OOF!" The knife wielding maniac's rant was cut short as a ball of ice slammed into him at full force and he was sent flying.

"Boss!" the other two criminals exclaimed.

"I tried to warn you." The girl sighed before unleashing another barrage of ice shards onto the dazed men who were quickly dispatched in the same manner as their apparent leader.

Subaru couldn't believe his eyes, was that magic! So cool!

"Are you alright sir? You're not hurt, are you?" the heroine said without looking up at him as she inspected the thieves, probably to make sure she hadn't killed them by mistake.

"Y-yeah thanks! You really saved by butt back there!" he exclaimed, rubbing his neck sheepishly.

"It was my pleasure. If you've suffered any injuries I'd be more than happy to heal them."

Subaru shook his head frantically. "No, that's fine. You've done more than enough for me."

The hooded woman nodded as she finished up checking on the condition of her unconscious foes.

"In that case I really must be going. Don't worry about these scoundrels. I'll be sure to let the Royal Knights know to where to pick them up.

She said as she began to walk off.

Subaru panicked. He couldn't let her leave, at least not without getting her name first!

"Hold on a second. You never told me who you were!"

The girl didn't so much acknowledge him as she dismissed his question. "No one important, have a great day."

'Quick have to think!' He couldn't let his first meeting with a magic user end so abruptly. What did his dad used to say? The best way to get a girl's attention was to do something incredibly stupid. Well he didn't need much help in that…

"Then in that case why don't I just tell you mine so it can be easier?!" Subaru smiled, pointing a thumb at himself. "My name is Natsuki Subaru, self-described NEET and broke beyond comparison! It's a pleasure to meet you Miss…" He trailed off as his introduction had indeed accomplished its intended goal in making the mysterious woman stop, but what took him back was the expression on her face. She looked haunted.

"W-What did you just say." She gasped, facing him. He could detect a trace of emotion in her words, but for the life of him he didn't have the slightest clue as to why.

She took a hesitant step toward him, then another as if he was a startled animal that would dash at the first sign of trouble.

"Uh, sorry ma'am, but are you okay?" Subaru asked nervously, suddenly finding the situation a little unnerving.

"Please," She breathed out, her hands reaching out for his face in a way that made him blush. "Let me have a good look at you."

"H-Hey! W-What do you think you're doing." He stuttered as she pulled him close, her superior strength holding him in place despite his struggles.

The woman's gaze bore into him and Subaru was surprised to make out a pair of purple irises beneath her hooded features. She was prettier up close.

"…S-Subaru?" She said desperately, her hold on him tightening.

"Y-Yeah, that's me. Short and sweet on the tongue don't you think? Now do you mind letting me go please? You're starting to hurt my – URK! "

"SUBARU!" she cried out, slamming his head in between her chest, smothering him

"SUBARU!"

"SUBARU!"

"SUBARU!"

The girl hugged him, increasing her grip on him as if she were afraid he might disappear if she let go for even a second.

"M-My Subaru," she sobbed uncontrollably, repeating his name over and over like a broken mantra.

Subaru flushed, he'd never had a girl get this physical with him before nor had he ever been a shoulder for someone to cry on. He was completely out of his depth!

Still, it was clear that whoever this was, was experiencing an emotional breakdown of some sort and it seemed like she was using him as a crutch to keep herself together.

'That settles it then' He made his decision right there that he'd stay and comfort the woman. He owed her that much at least for rescuing him.

"Shhh, there, there. It's going to be okay." Subaru said softly, patting the girl on the back gently as she wept into his shirt. He may have not been the best person for this, but at least he could do this much. "Everything is going to be okay."

Later, after much crying and apologizing the women had finally calmed down aside from a few hiccups and sniffles here and there.

"I'm sorry, it's just that I'm so happy to see you, alive that is." She said with genuine affection, latching onto his arm almost possessively. Not that Subaru minded, in fact he kind of enjoyed it.

"Well yeah, I would have been a goner if it weren't for. Seriously you were awesome back there and the way you kicked those guys' asses was sweet! You're like a real-life super hero!" He said awestruck

"W-What!" the woman stuttered, seemingly taken back by his kind words. Huh? Guess she's the type to have never been praised before for her work!

'Not to worry! I Natsuki Subaru will make it my personal mission to shower her with praises!'

The boy nodded eagerly, crossing her arms with a huge grin. "Yeah, you're incredible! Say, do you mind teaching me a few of those ice tricks of yours! I promise I'll be the best student you can ask for, so please make me your apprentice!" he bowed, which worked to make the hooded beauty flounder in place.

Truthfully he'd always pictured himself to be a skilled warrior or a berserker who could smash his way through any enemy fodder that was thrown at him, but hey magic was cool too! You wouldn't see him complaining.

"H-Huh? A-Apprentice? T-Teach? S-Subaru I don't understand! What are you saying?"

It was Subaru's turn to look confused, did he mess up? Was this some kind of test or maybe her magic was some forbidden family secret that wasn't for outsiders

"Subaru you're supposed to be dead," the girl choked out, trying to hold back her grief at the shocking revelation.

"Technically speaking I would have been if you hadn't jumped in when you did," Subaru pointed out with the staunch cluelessness he was known for. Unsure as to the girl was getting at.

"No! That's not it either you – wait, you…you haven't aged?" She exclaimed incredulously

"What do you mean? I know my eyes make me look older then my age, but I'm still 17 years old, I swear!" Subaru cried while making exaggerated motions with his arms.

"That can't be, then does that mean you don't remember me or the others." She seemed to whisper the last part more to herself then to him.

Subaru tilted his head, curious as to what she meant by that. There was a long stretch of silence with the girl seemingly debating with herself.

At last she spoke.

"Subaru I'm going to need you to come with me"

"What!? Does this mean you've agreed to train me after all?" Subaru jumped for excitement. Could this be the beginning of his origin story? It was a weird starting point to be sure, but then again, every gran adventure had to begin somewhere

"That isn't what I meant –" She paused, an idea coming to her. "I mean yes, that exactly it. You've proven yourself to be someone very trustworthy so that's why I really need you to follow me, okay"

She said, practically dragging him along. Not that Subaru paid much attention to the forcefulness behind her words and actions. How could he? He was finally getting what he always dreamed of! A purpose not spent cooped up in his room playing video games all day.

He could hardly wait! He had a bright future ahead of him he was sure of it!

Making their way out from the alley and onto the main streets, the woman pulled Subaru to a dragon carriage that was patiently waiting nearby with a several knights around it.

Whoa! Did he actually make friends with a princess? She must be if she has people at her beck and call. Needless to say, Subaru could barely contain his anticipation as he waited in the carriage for the women to finish up her conversation with a few of the guards.

"I'm sorry about this Subaru, this shouldn't take too long. My home isn't far from here so please be patient." She said humbly as she entered the carriage and they started moving.

Subaru shook his head. "Are you kidding me, I'd pretty much be living under a bridge if you hadn't taken me. I'm grateful!"

"P-Please don't be. I-I owe you this much at least…" She trailed off, sounding defeated.

"Heh, you really should learn lighten up. I bet you look really cute underneath that cloak of yours." He teased.

"Oh! I'd forgotten I still had this on. Here let me just – "She lifted her hood up and Subaru felt his breath suddenly leave him.

"Beautiful," was the only word appropriate to describe the girl in front of him. Breathtaking being a close second.

The silver haired half-elf blushed, her eyes refusing to meet his. "S-Subaru you nincompoop! Don't say stuff like that out loud!

'Who says nincompoop anymore?' he sweat dropped.

"No can do! Besides everyone knows elves are insanely gorgeous so there's no point in denying it." He grinned, scratching his cheek.

She giggled, it was one of the most angelic sounds Subaru had ever heard, "You really haven't changed. You're still the same old dunderhead aren't you?"

"Oi! What is that supposed to mean and who says dunderhead anymore! It makes you sound like an old lady."

They both shared a laugh and Subaru felt his sprit immediately lifted.

"Oh, by the way I never got your name."

The girl smiled radiantly, "Its Emilia, just Emilia. It's…a pleasure to meet you Subaru."

Subaru returned it. "Likewise! Emilia huh? Say, do you mind if I call you Emilia-tan?"

Boom!

So yeah we have a huge time skip on are hands. Before anyone asks, yes Emilia still looks the same despite the time lapse. My logic being is that Elves are practically immortal or at least that's my take on it. Same can't be said about the rest of the cast.

And yes our girl Emilia finally gone and bloody done and became queen. All hail best girl! Fight me Rem fans. But yeah haven't really seen a fic where she actually accomplishes her goals let alone one where Subaru had die in order to achieve it. Well get more into that later.

Hope enjoyed the first chapter! I might update this one more time before moving onto my other fics.

With that being said tell me what you think. I'm just dying to know. (No pun intended)

Like, comment, rant, you know the drill.
