Who is Mundus?

Mundus: The world in latin. But who is this dark and mysterious, gazing stone of marble, cast in the ways of Zeus the God of gods? Answer: Evil Incarnate. Mundus is a very complex character, why? Well, why have a special section of the castle dedicated to the inner loins of some large and unnamed beast and then take us to his room, which is marble white, and squeaky clean. Do not get me wrong, I absolutely give two thumbs up at him, and he ranks high in my standards as is Castlevania 64's Malus.

The name is Malorum Mundus, or the evil world. What is this evil world? It is Castle Mallet. And as I believe, Mundus is simply the collective spirit, and embodied avatar of all the evil (note: not evils as in the phantoms, marionettes, etc. evil as in the malignant force that is present in the castle) that lies in his evil world. No wonder he is the Devil Emperor.

Yet it surprises me, with four or five shots (as a figure of speech) I was able to vanquish him into the nether-realm. Why make me go so far, to fight the Grand Devil Emperor, only to find out he is weaker than a possessed marionette? Even his transfrogamificated form was relative simple to the nightmare beta and ifrit and alastor.

Mundus, physically, is a large marble statue of a greek-evoking man, dressed in white togas, sitting on a large throne. I'd say, four times the size of Dante, perhaps more. His forehead has a characteristic hole, in which a small orb of evil lies. This orb, this concentrated evil, is Mundus. He uses it to fire, shoot, hurl, whatever he does, strong and powerful "rays of evil" to say in mundane terminology. Later on we see him as a large ball of fire-resembling ethereal corporealness. He still keeps on with his nasty "Ray of Evil". And at the end, a large spider-like creature, evoking a sense of knowledge from the past spider already fought, which is relatively an ease to beat.

At the end, Mundus does not die. Evil never does, it just stays there, immaterial and essential, until it gathers enough strength to revive. Let's just hope he's more difficult in Devil May Cry II.
