THE PROM SONG!

ANGEL: I've been thinking. About our future. And the more I do, the more I feel like us - you and me being together - is unfair to you.

Buffy can barely speak. Manages-

BUFFY: Is this about what the Mayor said? He was just trying to shake us up.

ANGEL: He was right.

BUFFY: Oh, come on! He's the bad guy! We both know that...

His silence tells her he doesn't agree.

ANGEL:
(starting to sing....)
You deserve more.
Something better than demons and darkness.
You should have someone who can take you into the sunlight.
and someone who can love you... really love you...

BUFFY:
(cutting in)
I don't care about that.

ANGEL:
(singing again)
You will. And CHIIIIIIILLLLLDRRREEEENNN!!!!!!-

BUFFY:
(cutting in again)
Children? Can you say jumping the gun? I kill my goldfish.

ANGEL:
(still singing)
Today you don't.
But you have no idea how fast it goes.
Buffy, before you know it, you'll want it all
You'll want a... a normal life.

BUFFY:
I'll never have a normal life.

ANGEL:
But that's all the more to have a normal relationship.
Get out of this darkness.
Get out of this freak show...

This hits Buffy like a slap in the face. Angel regrets it the moment he says it.

ANGEL:
(stops singing)
I didn't mean it that way-

BUFFY:
I - I'm gonna go-

Hurt and confused, Buffy starts to leave - but Angel grabs her arm. Holds her fast.

ANGEL:
(spoken)
I'm sorry. Buffy, you know how
much I love you. It kills me to say this-

BUFFY
(exploding into song!)
Then dooooooooooon't!!!!
Who are you to tell me what I need?
Who are you to tell me what's right for me?
You think I've never thought about this stuff?

ANGEL:
(Spoken)
Have you? Rationally?
(Angel Singing)
In the end you'll realize that I'm right,
It's best for us to be apart.

(Buffy Singing)
WHAT HEART?!?!? It's not beating,
Angel I need you here, or
You probably think I could never do what's right,
I'm just a swooning school girl! ...nothing more.

(Angel Cutting in)
Buffy please don't...

(Buffy Coming back)
Don't what?
I can't stop loving you.
I don't have a choice here,
I can't change, I want my life to be with you.

(Angel starts soft then doing a Christina Aguilera scale things)
I don't.

I don't.
(repeating and getting louder)
(Meanwhile Buffy's singing)
You don't wanna be with me?
This can't be happening,
The mayor can't be right.
This can't be happening.
(she climbs out of the sewer and leaves Angel alone)
