Disclaimer: I own several books, but not The Ruby Tear.

This is basically a VERY short piece about what Baron Von Cragga does after getting off the plane he took near the end of the book. OK, here we go.

Cragga walked slowly down the road, glancing about at the unfamiliar buildings around him. It was different than it had been before..before he'd 'died'. He walked into the small coffee shop to his left and sat down at a table to think. A blond waitress stopped before his tale, holding a pad of paper and a pencil.

"What can I get for you sir?" she asked, looking slightly nervous.

"Nothing, nothing," Cragga said with a light wave of his hand, and the woman moved on. He sat for a moment, remembering the times in 'The Two White Cats' with Jessamyn, and wondered where she was now.

With Nic, he assumed. The two would have undoubtedly gotten back together after all that had happened in Nic's basement. He'd wanted to stay in town to see the opening of 'The Jewel', to see Jess in the starring role, but he didn't trust himself to be able to strengthen his resolve once more and leave the country if he saw her on stage again. It wasn't only that she delivered an amazing leading role, either. It was simply the memories of all they had shared. He shuddered at the thought of what Nic would have done to him if he knew what he had actually done with Jess, aside from the casual interaction. Not that he was afraid. It was only that it would be rather unpleasant, and he was trying to start over again. But to start over, he first had to go to the beginning of his past. He stood and strode out of the coffee shop.

Several hours later, Cragga stepped out of the taxi, paid the driver and set off down the upward twisting dirt path ahead of him, praying silently that it was still there. It had to be. How would one tear down such a large building? Impossible. It had to be there.

He walked a while on the path, until ahead of him he saw the tall iron gates. His heart leaped, and he strode over to them. They had been padlocked. He swore softly and climbed the gate with little trouble. Jumping down to the ground on the other side, he looked up.

His heart swelled at the sight of the huge, somewhat macabre castle about an acre in front of him.

He was home.

The end.

Has anybody read this novel? I have, and I place it in first place in books. I loved it. I plan to read it again very soon (for the third time).
