You're A God By Vertical Horizon

I've got to be honest

I think you know

We're covered in lies and that's OK

There's somewhere beyond this I know

But I hope I can find the words to say

He loved her. Every time she moved or spoke, he was captivated. Her long, blonde hair, falling to her shoulders in gentle curls, made him weak in the knees when he saw it. He loved the way she stuttered a bit when passionate about something or angry or nervous. She was too good for him. She was perfect, a goddess in every way. He was simple, a smart, a short in stature boy with unmanageable hair. His one wish in life was for her to love him. But he was Gordo. She was Lizzie. And they were only friends. That was a lie. They were best friends. But that was it.

Never again no

No never again

"Didn't Ethan look di-vine today?" He didn't want to put his heart on the line again. He hated listening to Lizzie and Miranda squealing over Ethan and his gorgeous hair. He was dumb as a post. What did they see in him? Wouldn't you like a person for substance, for good conversation, instead of looks? I would. Lizzie was beautiful, but she was sincere, kind, gentle- hearted. A perfect friend. A perfect person. But he couldn't keep letting himself get hurt. It was too hard, only being friends. He wanted more.

'Cause you're a god

And I am not

And I just thought

That you would know

You're a god

And I am not

And I just thought

I'd let you go

This standard of perfection is too much to live up to, he thought. What kind of person spends all day and all night thinking of the one attainable goal? She deserved Ethan. They were both stunning, people graced with good looks. He was just boyishly cute, the kind of person people looked at and wanted to squeeze. Not the kind of guy you wanted to grab and spend the rest of your life with. He had to let her go. She was just something he couldn't have. No matter how much he wished, on every shooting star he watched for, every penny he tossed into fountains, he couldn't have her.

But I've been unable

To put you down

I'm still learning things I ought to know by now

It's under the table so

I need something more to show somehow

He couldn't let her go. She was just someone who worked her way into his head and remained there, wedged between friendship and love. He sighed. He wanted her arms around him. He needed her, holding on to his hand and smiling at him. Always smiling at him, those dimples. He couldn't get her out of his head. Her lips, beckoning to him, reflected in the sunlight, always shining. Always shining.

Never again no

No never again

I've got to be honest

I think you know

We're covered in lies and that's OK

There's somewhere beyond this I know

But I hope I can find the words to say

Never again no

No never again

"Gordo?" He stopped in his tracks at the sound of her voice, comforting, warm, and sweet. "Gordo, I-I." she paused. He silence her the only way he knew how. Gordo leaned forward and kissed her. No, never again was right. Never again would he think of her as just a friend. They were so much more. They were together, people destined to be together. There was nothing better than it. Love. Never again would he take her for granted.
