Not mine.

Stare

Violet and golden eyes were gazing at each other, each with a flame of determination in them, as well as a rare weak hesitation at the same time.

Miroku and Inuyasha'd locked gazes several minutes ago, not one of them daring to make the first motion.

Then Inuyasha fidgeted, but didn't move from his spot on the ground.

'Can't believe the wench talked me into this…' He thought, growling to himself. His eyebrow twitched.

He'd never done this before, and it was making him nervous. Maybe not as nervous as fighting a youkai, but it was like those times when Kagome had started crying and wouldn't stop.

Kagome had brought them together, and talked it over with both of them. Now it was up to either the priest, or the hanyou.

If he tried to get out, more than his pride would be at stake.

'Not like I'd want to anyway…'

The fact that they were alone together, and that the others had left for a campsite a few minutes walk from their spots on the ground slipped in and out of their conscious mind. That made the tension rise.

Miroku licked his lips, a small bead of sweat trickling down the side of his face. It was too late to back out now. They'd both gotten themselves into this, and plus, that'd be his downfall, his own undoing.

He shivered as thoughts ran through his head.

They fell silent.

Another minute passed by.

Neither of them moved an inch.

Inuyasha sniffed, inhaling. He began salivating at the smell of Ramen. It was so tempting, but he couldn't leave Miroku there…

Oh no, never…

So he sat there, ear twitching.

And then…

"Hat-chuu!" Miroku sneezed, accidentally closing his watering eyes. He opened them up in a flash, but it was too late. Inuyasha had seen, and now was taking it in full glory.

"Heh, told you I'd win, monk!" Inuyasha said, crossing his arms smugly. Inside, secretly, he was relieved. Had Miroku not sneezed, it would be the purple robed monk who'd be smirking in his place. He wouldn't have been able to hold his glare for much longer, seeing as his temper and uneasiness had rose higher during the last tense moments.

Miroku sniffed. He wasn't going to hear the end of it for several days.

He'd lost a staring contest to Inuyasha.
