Author's Note: This is my second drabble for the LJ community farscapefriday, and it's actually my first fully FS fic (the first was a crossover with Firefly). I've only seen the first few episodes and most of the fourth season, but I did see the series finale, which is where this is based. I tried to piece this together with my meager knowledge, so I hope it makes sense character-wise. The second paragraph is just stuff I made up that I thought might be Peacekeeper custom. Because I know very little about the series, I planned to stick to 100 words. Then my muse took over and got me to 182. SPOILERS FOR THE SERIES FINALE "BAD TIMING."

Not So Inevitable Anymore

By Trisana McGraw

Aeryn didn't look forward to death; rather, she expected its coming and worked to ensure that when she did die, it would be an act of honor. Then she met John Crichton, and she wanted only to stay alive and to continue loving him.

John gave her a reason to live; he showed her that emotion was not a weakness but a way of tightening the bonds she learned to form with others, bonds that in turn made her stronger. John gave her a future, more than some words about bravery and a useless medal to place on a grave. When he held out the ring to her, promising a lifelong union, she agreed to be his wife, partner, and best friend until her death.

That time came all too soon. As the lasers streaked toward them, Aeryn closed her eyes and kissed John hard, desperate to feel him one last time. As she felt herself crumble in his arms, she knew that she would trade any Peacekeeper ceremony for this end; at least here she had someone to go down with.
