TITLE: Timeline AUTHOR: fanficauthor SUMMARY: Is it possible to know nothing and everything at the same time? CATEGORY: Drama RATING: PG-13, I suppose. Doesn't feel R, doesn't feel PG. A/N: My, how I enjoy writing POV pieces. This one's a bit odd, a bit mysterious.

Timeline

So this is how it ends.

After all that has happened, the cycle finally breaks, and this is what they're left with.

This is what we're left with. What I'm left with.

Well, I wish them good luck. I suppose if they've gone through this much effort to try and avoid the inevitable, they might as well just take the next step.

As if that would make any difference.

I can see it now. How it all ends. Different this time.

But I suppose this time was different to start with.

Never should have given them a choice. Oh well, it's not as if I couldn't anticipate this one's reactions like all the others.

Free will. The ultimate delusion.

He chose. But, really, it was meant to be that way. Had to happen.

But he felt as though he chose. Went down a different path than all the others went down.

And that's the key right there, I suppose.

Feelings. My allies and my enemies. I manipulate them perfectly, and they gladly suit my purposes. And yet, other times they suddenly decide to betray me. Open up doors that I would much rather remain shut.

I am not so blind as to buy into the illusion of choice.

Cause and effect.

I suppose that's something the other one would say. He does love to make his speeches.

As do I.

As does she.

Whether she has done what she did out of a genuine sympathy or whether it is merely morbid curiosity, I suppose I will never be able to know.

Either way, she's toying with them.

Oh, she'd hate to think of it that way, but she is. Making them feel as if it is just some beautiful chance that they are here together in this same time.

Of course they'd believe that. At heart, I've discovered, all beings have some idealism at their cores.

It's quite brilliant what she's done, really. They both watched each other die, both brought the other one back.

But I suppose that was their choices, right?

Please.

She's managed to get things to the point where I can no longer logically predict the outcome.

Oh, it is most definitely different this time.

They'll go down kicking and screaming, not relatively passive like the other times.

Kicking and screaming, these ones.

Oh yes, I can see it.

Evading death. Perhaps they each have nine lives.

Well, now things are really getting started. I can see that much, anyway.

Escaping death.

Congratulations.

Now it really starts. See how you come out after this round. See if you come out licking your wounds like the cat with nine lives.

When you're up to your tenth, see if you land on your feet.

So this is how it begins.
