FIND THE MISSING ICARUS

Chapter 1
Gohan looked out the window and sighed. It's been four months since he had seen his pet dragon Icarus. Long past the days when the friendly dragon could fit through his bedroom window, all Icarus had to do was show up tapping on the glass and Gohan would come out to meet him. They would go flying or fishing or simply lie in the grass, enjoying each other's company. For the past couple years, these activities had decreased in frequency. After all, Son Gohan was now fifteen years old, and Icarus roughly the size of a small house. They were both growing up, and such innocent activities didn't hold the same ecstatic joy it once did. Still, it wasn't unusual for Icarus to stop by Gohan's window every two or three weeks. When five weeks went by Gohan began to worry. By the seventh week Gohan had covered every place they usually frequented, and then some. Every week or so, in between studies and family duties, Gohan searched for his friend. Unsuccessfully. With the guilt of a best friend growing apart from their loved one, Gohan irrationally blamed himself for what was happening. A million good reasons could have explained Icarus' behavior, but for all Gohan knew his pet dragon could be lying dead, carrion for any scavenger out there. Gohan couldn't let it go. He just had to know what had happened to his friend. But how to go about finding the answer...?
"GOHAN!" Said person jumped guiltily in his chair. His mother's screech had startled him. "Gohan!" Chi-Chi continued, a little more normally. She walked through the door. Gohan turned in his chair to face her. "Did you finish those applications yet?"
Son Gohan grinned sheepishly. "Almost, Mom."
"Well, hurry up. You know we have an interview with Mugen High School's board in two hours." Gohan nodded. Chi-Chi had been helping her son search for just the right high school for Gohan to join. She had decided to up the level of education, and home education just wasn't cutting it anymore. Besides, how would her little scholar get any free scholarships for college if he was where no one would recognize his genius? Chi-Chi's decision was also influenced by Gohan's wheedling. No offense to Mom or his little brother, Dende knew he loved them, but Gohan was a teenager with only his family and Dad's friends for company. He had to get out, or he was going to suffocate.
Gohan shuffled the papers on his desk into an orderly pile and put them away for later. He began to get ready for the interview.
