Alaya By Tamar Piper 1943

Alex was sitting in his seat waiting for the rest of the class to come in. He was fifteen minutes early, as usual. None of his friends had arrived yet. The only other kids were a bunch of girls who were pointing and giggling at him. He was used to this by now being in his last year of private school. He tugged on his tie because he was feeling a little wheezy. Just then his teacher, Mr. Alion, walked in.

"Class, I would like you all to work on your Egyptian projects. Form into your groups and start working." He said. Alex went to the back table where Mark and Alison sat waiting for him. They started working for a half hour when Mr. Alion said,

"Class, we have a new student who is starting school today. Her name is Alaya Bay. (Pronounced like a liar except without the r.) Alex, Mark and Alison, she will join your group." Alaya walked into the classroom and Mr. Alion told her something. She had shoulder length black hair. Her school uniform was new and he could tell that the tie was bothering her. Alex knew the name Bay was Ardeth's last name but he shook it of as a coincidence. Alaya walked over to Alex's table and got out a notebook and pencil.

"What type of name is Alaya? It makes you sound like you're a liar." Said Alison

"It's Egyptian." Alex Muttered.

" Yes, it's Egyptian because I'm Egyptian." Said Alaya

"Well isn't that a coincidence. We're working on a report about Egypt you will be a big help to us." Said Matt. Just then the bell rung and the kids started getting ready to leave.

"Matt, Alison and Alaya. We're meeting at my house tonight right?" Asked Alex right before they left.

"Yeah, your house has more books on Egypt than the library." Said Alison.
