Disclaimer: None of the characters in this story are mine; they all belong to the wonderful Project Weiß and their associates who brought the angsty, beautiful eye-and-mind fest that is Weiss Kreuz (Gluhen). The song is Witness by Sarah McLachlan, and is not mine!! I am in no way making a profit from any of this.

Author's Note: This is Schuldig speaking to Aya from the roof during episode 10 of Gluhen, and he's thinking about Aya-chan. Testing the waters for a full-length Schu x Aya-chan ficcy.

Sündigen Sie im Licht By Rainfall

The moon rose steadily through the sky in measure with the sun's departure, throwing mixed bolts of color throughout the atmosphere. The sky was blood and silver, and the shadows began to crawl down the walls and streets as if they had their own lives and motives.

"But where's the princess now, kitten?"

//Make me a witness

take me out

out of darkness

out of doubt//

A whisper of wind chanted their arrival; the only sound the tread of boots on the pavement, the gravel, and the cement. The moon took its place over the gathering of faceless slaves.

//I won't weigh you down

with good intention

won't make fire out of clay

or other inventions//

A troop of five strode down the path to face whatever came next, hand in hand with destiny and fate. They were burned black by guilt and misdeeds - and they knew it. Atonement is bitter, not sweet. The one in the front with an angel's face - what was he thinking now?

//Will we burn in heaven

like we do down here

will the change come

while we're waiting//

Thoughts like smooth honey sliding over his tongue, a quick glinting smile in the shadow of the moon. You're not thinking of her, are you, kitten? No, better things on your mind for now, aren't there. This charade, this dance with Epitaph and these minions, these mindless fools. They have plans, you know. Or no, you don't see. That one in the suit, he's crazy. Look out for him, little kitten.

//Everyone is waiting

And when we're done

soul searching

as we carried the weight//

Stole her name again, did you? I'm surprised, kitten. I thought you had more guts than that. Maybe you've been living the lie so long it doesn't matter. He laughed, quietly, narrowing his eyes. "Not that I have room to speak."

His comrade glances over, thin eyebrows raised over one open eye and a monocle. "Talking to the voices again?"

He shrugs. "Passes the time." So the princess is gone again. Sealed up in her tower again? Did you drop the key down a well? I wouldn't be surprised. Another chuckle. After all, the wolf is out to catch her.

//and died for a cause

is misery

made beautiful

right before our eyes//

"Just don't forget, kitten, that I can read your mind. Next time you think of her, I'll be sitting at your window. Gotta rescue Repunzel, with all her flowing braids." He laughed, eyes shining as the combatants began to take their places below. An elegant hand rose up to tip the brim of his old- fashioned hat.

His companion looks at him again. "What are you planning this time?

A smile. "Nothing, Crawford, nothing at all." And he began to hum a few lines of an old European nursery rhyme. His companion looked away, as they waited for the next moment to come.

//will mercy be revealed

or blind us where we stand

Will we burn in heaven

like we do down here

will the change come while we're waiting

everyone is waiting//
