Heading to Camp Half-Blood
Thalia looked around, scanning her surrounding, before stopping and moving away from a certain direction. She purposely walked into an alley, waiting for her prey to come to her. And come they did.
She saw 3 women and 1 man entering the alley after her. They purposely blocked the alley, not wanting her to escape. She laughed inside her head. They are the ones trapped with her.
As she silently waited, the group transformed, from normal humans to monsters intending to eat demigods, in this case, her. She watched as the women turned into dracaenas and the man turned into a cyclops.
The lead dracaena snarled at her, "Surrender now demigod, and we make it quick and painless," the laughter coming from the other monsters annoyed her a bit, but not as much as the tone the lead monster spoke to her.
"How about another deal, you leave me alone, and I don't kill you and turn you into a wallet," Thalia said sweetly, though her aura is anything but. This made the monsters laugh nervously, not as arrogant as before but still believing they had the upper hand.
"How are you intending to kill us, daughter of Zeus. Hopping for your father to help you?" hissed the lead dracaena in contempt. As she said that, the monsters started to close in on the lone demigod, intending to finish her off.
"Well, don't say I didn't warn you," Thalia replied, before seemingly disappeared, before she appeared in front of the cyclops, her arm stretched and hand on its chest, though to the other monsters surprised, several holes appeared on the big monster chest, dust trickling out of the wound.
The daughter of Zeus looked coldly at the one-eyed monster before making a squeezing motion with her hand, the cyclops gasped in pain before exploding into golden dust. Thalia turned her eyes toward the other monsters, they in return looked at her in fear.
She moved her hand to the monsters' direction, smirking slightly at their flinch before moving her hand, removing the dust on it. Aero Claw is a helpful technique her teacher taught her, and she used it the best she could. She also created some variations out of it, the variations complimented her fighting style compared to what he tau- Ok snapping right back to the fight. Gosh, ADHD can be such a pain sometimes.
She looked at the monsters in front of her, before delivering a smile befitting of the devil, or the gods residing in the Underworld, something she learned from her teacher, of course.
"Now then, how about a little brawl to complete this lovely afternoon?" she asked, Aero Claw pointed at her enemy, her tone indicated she expect to fight the group.
Then, like a lynx, she pounced.
"Thalia, you late," the youngest of their group, Annabeth, stated seriously, though it was hard to take a cute 7-year-old seriously with how adorable she is.
"I'm sorry Annabeth. I got a bunch of lowlifes after me." Thalia claimed, her excuse would have been enough to pacify the daughter of Athena if not for another member of their group.
"By that, she means she got a bunch of monsters after her butt, then lead them to somewhere no one can see them and killed them, am I right Thals?" the eldest of their group, though not for long if he continued his annoying way, retorted, causing Annabeth to try and fail to make an angry face, while Thalia, tried and successfully make an angry face, one that promised pain and suffering in their next spar.
Luke, ignoring the terrifying glare that would have normally scared the Hades out of him before his 'training', examined the map they had gotten from their teacher. He had given them the map to help them in their journey to Camp Half-Blood, their previous destination, before the Fates throw a goddamn mountain and made them meet their teacher, a god in mortal skin, or more appropriate, the devil in demigod skin.
He shuddered inwardly at the memories of their training days, they become stronger, and if they ever get sent back to that point with knowledge of what will happen, they will still pick being trained by him. That doesn't mean the fear of their teacher in his devil sergeant mode disappear in such a short time, if ever.
He tossed the thought away as far as possible in the deepest part of his mind. He didn't need PTSD (Percy-traumatic stress disorder) now. He looked at the map intently to plan their next move.
"Right now, we are currently at Manhattan, and Camp Half-Blood is at Long Island. It will take some time for us to get there. So, I have 2 suggestions. One, we get on a bus and get as close as possible before we walk to the camp. Second, we walked to the camp from here, without any transport,"
Both girls looked at the map with deep thought. While using transport will make going to Long Island easier, it comes with chances of attacks inside the bus and outside it. While they can kill any monsters, doing it inside increase the chances of hitting someone else. Not to mention, with their luck, they get into a bus full of monsters.
While walking to the camp means they have plenty of space to move around, whether running away or fighting. On the other hand, walking to the camp will be more tiring and they might find a situation where they got attacked by monsters while resting. Not ideal for a demigod to wake up inside a monster's stomach.
"I just which he allowed us to hide our scent and aura, at least no monsters will come after our butt," Thalia complained, though, for someone who knew her for almost 2 years, there isn't much bitterness from her tone, just annoyance. Luke remembered the decision their teacher, Percy, made for them.
-Flashback-
"You want us to what?!" Thalia screamed at their teacher, who didn't seem to be bothered by it.
"Yes, I want you to go to Camp Half-Blood not using the concealing technique," Percy said seriously, his voice telling others it's an order that must be followed.
Thalia looked at their teacher with the fiercest glare she had ever given anyone, including the one he mostly received, her eyes showing no sign of backing off. The two have an intense staring match –
Before Thalia everted her gaze, and slumped on the couch, letting a huge sigh, signs that showed Percy had won their little matches, something Luke had expected to be honest. After all, their current score against their teacher in any competition involving mythological stuff is 109 – 0, in their teacher favour.
Percy softened his glare, before patting Thalia's shoulder. "It's not I want to make things difficult for you, it's just you need more experience fighting monsters so you can use every single one of your power and technique better."
"Don't we already fight monster before?" asked the innocent daughter of Athena from her place, on top of the son of Hermes lap.
Luke remembered that battle, or as their teacher likes to call it, 'exercise'. He sent them to a gathering of monsters, one he purposely attracted to that location so the trio could gain some more experience using their newly trained powers in a real fight.
He remembered being invisible to the monsters and launching sneak attacks on the leaderlike figures, causing mayhem in the monsters' rank as their leaders died suddenly. He also honed his swordsmanship during that fight, increasing his reflexes and fighting skills tremendously.
He also remembered Thalia unleashing lightning strikes from her hands, slaughtering huge waves of monsters with ease. Annabeth also got involved in the 'exercise', using the long-range Celestial energy technique along with her ability as a child of Athena to the max.
He vividly remembered releasing a tired laugh before Percy created a bunch of giant water hands to lift them towards the mansion. He remembered the fatigue all three of them suffered that Percy cancelled the next day's class, and replaced the week's class for a more mental and study class.
"It's different," How it is different? "During that exercise (the trio had a brief flashback before they come back to their senses before their teacher knock it back for them, literally), I'm still with you, watching to make sure you didn't get yourself killed," blunt but unfortunate truth.
"When you go to the camp, you will fight monsters without me watching you, it allowed you to fight for real, without thinking I will be there as a safety net. By allowing your scent and aura detected by monsters, you will experience what most demigods did, with the exception you have your power to help you,"
"When you go to the camp, don't fully hide your presence. Release the regular amount you did without concealing it. Except for Annabeth, you can use the concealing technique the best you can, understood?" the daughter of Athena nodded her head.
"Good, best get some preparation done. I will give you some money the day you head out. Now, you should prepare whatever supplies you think necessary for your journey, ok,"
-Flashback ended-
There was still some argument after that, but the trio had accepted the reasoning. Besides, even without the concealment technique, they can still slaughter a huge group of monsters with ease. It's just annoying fighting monsters when they can avoid the fight. It's not even that challenging anymore.
"Based on the fact, the best option will be to walk all the way. Tiring, but we can use the Mist when we sprint to the camp. With our luck, when we get into a bus, we are likely surrounded by monsters," Thalia voiced out, stating what Luke thought about a few minutes ago.
"Agree, besides we can move easier when not inside a bus. Avoid monsters easier that way," Annabeth gave her thought, agreeing with the option.
"Alright, with everyone agreeing to walk there, let's get some rest first. Percy gave us an address we can go to when we get to Manhattan. Best get some shut eyes before we go to the camp tomorrow. All agree?" Luke was answered with quick hand raise from both girls.
"Excellent, let's go to this safe spot then,"
Luke wasn't expecting much from the safe house, to be honest. He didn't know many things but from the fact spewing machine that is Annabeth, he knew that real estate prices in New York City will be costly, so either they will get a hideout in the wild, (underground, caves or what will look like an abandoned house) or a rundown apartment in the cheaper side of New York.
So, it can be said he was blindsided by the very nice-looking apartment, which look like it had just been built in the past decades or less, in their sight when they reached the address. His other companions were also surprised, judging by their gaping mouths.
"Well, let's go inside?" his statement sounded like a question even to him, but the two girls didn't argue, just walking blankly like a robot. He's not surprised, he's pretty sure his state is just like theirs.
As they walked into the building, they could see some refurbished area, with signs showing it had just been repaired and painted, like the bucket of paint left on the ground floor, along with a pile of construction materials left outside, proving that it had just been either constructed or repaired.
They cast the Mist on themselves, making them look like a couple in their twenties, with Annabeth still staying in her normal look, which made them look like a parent taking their daughter to a friend's house, which cause the son of Hermes to blush, not daring to look at the daughter of Zeus, less he got electrocuted.
He completely missed the huge blush on Thalia's face, copying Luke in his redness, something Annabeth saw completely. Why did her two older siblings figure become so red? Did they have some kind of competition again without her knowledge was in the mind of a daughter of Athena with ADHD.
They silently climbed up the stairs, having no intention of being stuck inside a small space that might cause them to self-combust. Fortunately, the key Percy gave them was on the third floor. Unfortunately, it was still a flight of stairs that they had to walk.
After reaching the third floor, they go to the apartment number on the key. They opened up the door to be met with a pleasant sight. The room is blue, which is not surprising, Percy loved the colour, though not the deep blue of the ocean, but light blue which is soothing.
The furniture is also decent, nothing expensive but look nice enough and not in shambles. Of course, it's just the living room so they decided to explore some more. And the charm of the apartment kept piling up.
Besides the huge living room, there are 4 bedrooms, with a bathroom connected to each of them, a dining room that is almost two-thirds the size of the living room, a big kitchen that will allow them to cook whatever they wanted, though they left that one to Luke, 2 bathrooms not connected to the bedrooms, and most importantly, a pantry that stored enough food to feed an entire family of 5 for a year.
The bedrooms are the things that excite them the most. Their sizes are smaller than half the size of the bedroom in the mansion, but they had to share it. Here, they can have an entire bedroom for themselves. Not to mention, the bathroom is also decent, in both sizes and facilities, having toiletries, bathtub, shower, and thankfully, hot water.
(The trio shivered when their mind went to the time their teacher tossed them into the pond to heal them. They are grateful for the action, it just, why did he have to change the temperature to somewhere more suited at the Arctic or the Poles.
They knew that he could change the water temperature easily, as he did when he heated the cup of cocoa, which they saw. Seriously, does their teacher think they are dumb not to realize the steam coming from the cup when it was cold before?!)
Of course, that is just the normal room. The apartment also had an armoury, one they would have missed if not for Annabeth to spot and read the floorplan placed on a table next to the front door. It also had a storage room, filled with trophies from monsters and many valuables, including golds and gems, though it's not as important as the one placed inside a hug sack with writing on it; drachmas.
This caused the trio to shake in excitement. Drachmas is valuable as they can use for the transaction of items and service-connected to the mythology. In easier terms, they can use it to buy stuff related to the pantheon.
Annabeth also had some questions about why Percy had treasures like gems and gold in the apartment. Of course, Luke answered it as Thalia went catatonic from the number of weapons in the armoury, not from excitement, but fear of the youngest member of the group coming close to such pointy objects.
"He probably used it to build or repair this place, jury still out for which one he did. As for where he got it, he probably found it in monster's lair, buried somewhere, or in the ocean, inside a shipwreck," receiving Annabeth incredulous look, he countered," He is a son of Poseidon, of course, he can go underwater if he curious or interested enough."
Annabeth nodded, agreeing with Luke's point. Still, when they meet him again, she is going to ask where he got it. She wondered what kind of adventure he had when he got his first treasure, she is not stupid to think that one lucky encounter is enough to get this much gold, less so if he had the same amount stashed inside his more important safehouse or any places he considered secure enough to hide it.
(Meanwhile, Percy thought about when he found his first treasure. It had been surprised when he tripped on a tree root, after he got the blessing of Pan, much less so the stumble made him hit the ground with enough force to break it, making him feel into a large underground chamber filled with treasures.
He at first had no idea what he will do with it, but it hit him. Literally. A rock hit his head and an idea emerged (along with a bump). He can use treasures to buy or build apartments or houses that can be used for a safehouse. The one in the wilderness is useful in the Wild, but he didn't have much inside any big city.
He also should seek more treasures inside the monster's lairs. His geosense can be used for this endeavour, allowing him to seek treasures underground. He also can go into the sea, searching for treasures in the form of valuables inside a shipwreck.
This plan netted him with riches that will place him somewhere in one of the world's richest men, or boy in his case. Of course, he will not tell how he found his first treasures. That one secret he takes to his grave.)
After shaking the comatose Thalia back to the waking world, they decided to have dinner before relaxing for a bit and going to sleep. Luke's preparation for dinner was done for the sake of their stomach. Thalia can cook decently, but she didn't have much patience in cooking, blowing a bunch of appliances during their stay with Percy, which earn the ire of the much younger demigod, something neither Luke and Thalia wanted to witness again.
Thankfully, there is a tv in the living room, allowing the girls to relive their boredom as Luke slaves away in the kitchen. They currently watching a documentary, under Annabeth insistence, when the girl that choose to watch it asked Thalia a question,
"Thalia, can I sleep with you tonight?" the question didn't even need to be thought at all, Thalia nodded with no hesitation, causing the smaller girl to smile and hug the currently blushing older girl.
"Well," the sudden sound caused both girls to jump before looking at the source, which is Luke, who gave out a mischievous smile.
"If you are done hugging with each other, let's go to the dining room. I already laid out the foods," as he said that, he ran back into the dining room, on the thought that Thalia will unlikely blast him to kingdom come in the same room as their dinner.
"Luke, come back here or I will tear you apart!" Thalia screamed as she chased after the blonde demigod.
Annabeth let out a giggle at the two's antics as she ran into the kitchen. A normal day for the three demigods.
Thalia squirmed under the blanket. Next to her, Annabeth did the same, having trouble falling asleep. Something that annoyed the daughter of Zeus. She twisted her body to face the daughter of Athena, trying to find the right word to say before just saying what she had in mind.
"Can't sleep Annie?" the question caused the younger girl to stop twisting and look at Thalia at the eyes before nodding.
Thalia let out a sigh. How come she had trouble sleeping now when she slept just fine in the mansion? The only difference there was she slept with Lu-
Her eyes widened as she thought about it. She and Annabeth had slept with Luke during their stay with Percy. Even before meeting him, she and Luke had slept on each other embraces, before and after Annabeth came into their lives.
Should she- Thalia shake her head but cannot get the treacherous thought out. Like Percy told them to, she decided to follow her instinct and go to Luke's room. She got up from the bed and motioned the daughter of Athena to follow her.
Not knowing what her older sister figure had in mind, Annabeth decided to just follow her. They walked until they reached the son of Hermes room. Annabeth looked at Thalia inquisitively, asking the silent question of why they are here.
Thalia ignored it in favour of opening the door. Thankfully, Luke didn't lock it, which made sense, the barrier their teacher created is strong and can conceal the smell of demigods. She had seen one of the barriers blocking blows coming from giants, Laisto-something, and come out unscathed.
She entered the room, Annabeth following after her. She looked at the blonde, who was sleeping soundly. Deciding to not disturb the sleeping son of Hermes, she slowly crawled onto the bed and made her way toward Luke's side. Annabeth followed after her, crawling between her and Luke, which she was both grateful and slightly miffed of.
She jostled a bit, trying to get comfortable, which had the unfortunate effect of waking up the older boy. He opened his eyes, looking at the two bundles next to him before his mind slowly woke up, questions formed as he took on the sight of the two girls on his bed.
"Thalia, Annabeth, what are you doing in my room?" he asked, unsure if he truly wanted to know but unfortunately the question already come out of his mouth.
"Well," Thalia fidgeted before determining to do things Percy style; bluntly. "Annabeth and I can't sleep, so we decided to sleep with you," as she said that, her blush grow redder to the point steams can be seen from her ears.
"Oh, ok. Well get yourself comfy then," Luke not knowing what to say about that decision just go with it. As he said it, both Thalia and Annabeth dived into the blankets before getting themselves comfortable, as he said.
The son of Hermes shook his head to the action of the two before doing the same thing as them. As he tried to fall back to sleep, he wondered what kind of place is to deserve such treatment. Sure, painting the walls blue doesn't mean much to other people, but Percy will not order it to be coloured this way, preferring to maintain the original colour. Only if he planned to stay for a long time did he paint the mansion's walls, as he told them.
He decided to not be bothered by it. For all he knew, he ordered to paint it blue on some whim, or he ordered every single safe house in the big city to be coloured blue. His mind slowly drifted to sleep as he thought about the significance of the walls' colour.
(Percy looked at the horizon, to New York City. He is currently on the outskirt, constantly monitoring his students. He didn't want them to know that he currently watching them, less they complained about it.
As he thought about it, he looked at his hand remembering the key he had given Luke. The key to his old apartment, where his mother was killed by Gabe, and he returned the favour, tenfold.
The apartment had some sad memories, but most of the memories there were happy ones when Gabe didn't intrude on their life yet. While he cannot bear to use it, he also didn't want anyone else to live there. So, he decided to buy the entire building.
Thanks to the wealth he accumulated, he could buy the entire building and renovate it as much as he wanted to. He used the Mist to make the building slowly drop in quality in their facilities, faulty wiring, leaked pipes, those sorts of things until it reached the point people started to leave that place.
Of course, there are a bunch of people that continued to stay there, mostly of the fact they couldn't afford another place. He, of course, used the Mist to encourage them to leave. Of course, he gave them some compensation, enough money to rent another apartment for 20 years, along with the rest of the people he drove off.
After he bought the place, he ordered a renovation, painting the walls in a different colour, with the old apartment getting the blue treatment. He ordered new furniture, wired some new appliances, fixed the plumbing, all in hopes of making it into a better place to live at.
His old apartment got much better treatment, naturally. He tasked the renovation team to combine two other apartments with his old ones, essentially turning it into a much bigger apartment, with facilities better than other apartments in the building.
He never planned to give the key to his students. It's just done on a whim, something he didn't regret. After all, if his mother knew that he turned the old apartment into a safe house for demigods, she probably happy that the old home will have its uses.
He let the tears formed from his mother memories fall. Better to accept and move on, than continued to cling on. Sally Jackson already moved into the Underworld. Percy Jackson should be continued on living, for his mother sacrifice will not be in vain.
As the tears falls, he walked back into the safehouse on the outskirt. Better get some rest so he will not be tired when his students begin their move to Camp Half-Blood.)
The trio began their morning with breakfast. Last night had gone rather well. While Luke had cuddled the two girls, Thalia had not electrocuted him, probably expecting such a thing. She did, however, pushed the son of Hermes when he didn't let go.
After that episode, they take a quick shower before having breakfast with nothing eventful happened. Only when they started having breakfast did they come to a serious problem.
"So, we don't know where Camp Half-Blood is, am I right?" Thalia asked, though she already knew the answer. For all the preparation that they had done, they still forgot the most essential thing; the final destination.
"Unfortunately, yes. The only thing we knew is it somewhere on Long Island." Luke confirmed their predicament, something which caused the daughter of Zeus to groan in frustration.
"Didn't Percy say about some possible guide when we get to New York?" Annabeth asked, causing the two older people to look at her in shock before they remembered that yes, he did say that.
"The only thing is we don't know where the guide at. We don't even know if they are in the city," Thalia countered, hating being pessimistic, but needed to so they will not suffer from false hope.
"Percy said that the guide can smell demigod scent, like monsters, but they nice to demigods," Annabeth reminded them of things she remembered.
Luke and Thalia looked at each other in shock. They didn't remember that. But as they slowly think about it, it made sense. Annabeth is the daughter of Athena, goddess of Wisdom. Even though Memories is not part of Athena's domains, it did greatly relate to wisdom.
"Alright then, so we go outside, let out our smell and hope this guide found us, instead of man-eating monsters," Thalia concluded though she doubted their odds. What are the chances of finding this mysterious guide in such a short time?
"Blaaaah, to think I get to lead a child of Zeus to camp, its an honour." Said the goat-man, or satyr as he called himself.
"Well, I know Thalia glad you feel honoured by her presence," Luke said, ignoring the sharp glare coming from an irate daughter of Zeus, "but would tell us your name first," he continued.
"Oh, sorry. I'm Grover Underwood, your designated protector and guide to Camp Half-Blood," the satyr, Grover, introduced himself, earning nods from the trio.
"The camp sent you after us?" Luke asked, unsure what to make of the satyr's presence.
"Well, not exactly," receiving a bunch of confused stares, he continued nervously "I currently one of the many satyrs send to find Zeus' child. I only started to make my journey when I found your scent yesterday. I tried to follow it but it somehow disappeared. So, I decided to wait where I last found,"
The trio sweated nervously. They didn't want anyone to know of their teacher existence, at least before they get to camp. No need to get their teacher in unnecessary danger, though he seems to find doing such things exciting.
"Probably the place where we stay had some kind of protection, we not sure," Thalia said, which is true. They don't know how Percy did that but they don't complain about it.
"Oh, well made sense. A god might bless that place to hide demigods' presence, though I don't know any gods that will do such things," Grover spoke absentmindedly, not noticing Luke clenching his fist before slowly unclenching it. Grover doesn't know of Percy and what he can do, and he will only know when Percy goes to camp himself.
"Come, I will get you to the camp. Follow me," Grover said, bleating while saying it, causing the two oldest to smile.
"Let's follow the satyr then," Thalia let out, as she walked behind the satyr, followed by Annabeth and in the back, Luke, a standard formation they used to ensure the protection of their youngest member.
Luke knew that they will like to face monsters along the way, but couldn't find it in himself to care. After the stuff that happened during his childhood, along with meeting his friends and his father, and finally meeting Percy, who played a greater role to him than either of his parents, something he is sure Thalia and Annabeth will agree on.
Percy is like a big brother to them, even though he is the second youngest, his maturity and personality made him likeable, and he showed more care towards them than even their parents, godly or mortal. So, he will grow to become a hero worthy of his kindness. He will show that he can be a great hero like Percy believe he could be.
