Disclaimer: This is a work of fanfiction based on the Pokemon anime. All recognisable characters, plots, and settings are the exclusive property of Nintendo and the Pokemon franchise. I make no claims to ownership, nor am I making any profit.

This work was an inspiration from stories such as Traveller by The Straight Elf, Symbiotic by Constructive Writer and Legend by BlackStaff and NightMarE.

Type: Multi-Shot (It has six parts)

Author's Notes: I have never written a Pokemon one-shot before. It's something I solely enjoy and have been dying to write but couldn't get enough inspiration or time to do so. Some pokemon have evolved and are far more powerful than anime.

I also have three Harry Potter fanfictions going on right now along with another one-shot. If it strikes your fancy, go check them out. The fics can be accessed from my profile. I'd appreciate your likes, follows and reviews. It inspires me to work harder.

This fic has no beta. I'm in search of a beta-reader since I only have one right now. If anybody is interested in betaing my other fics, send me a PM or join my Discord server.

Ash vs Tobias- Part 1/6

A lone figure was standing on the top of a mountain. He appeared to be in his mid-thirties and was dressed in a black and red hoodie with blue stained jeans. His face was covered under the hoodie with a red cap covering his messy hair. He was playing with a ring on his finger as he observed the scene in front of him.

"Pikaa?" the voice of his Pikachu snapped him out of his musings.

"Nothing Pikachu. I'm just interested to see what my son would do against this little shit," he spoke, the voice barely a whisper. The man was not bothered by the so-called Tobias who had such a streak. While the feat was impressive in its own right, he doubted that the legendary trainer's entire team could bring down more than two of his main team.

At that exact moment, a humongous Charizard dropped next to them, roaring to the heavens as he made his presence known. Just looking at the pokemon could make many people faint in fear. The most striking feature was, however, the various scars littered on its body. The tail flame was so bright that it looked like a miniature sun in the cloudy atmosphere of the mountain.

The man remained unfazed by the brute's presence. The Pikachu just gave a wave of recognition.

He kept fingering his ring before placing it in his finger. It had an engraving on it with a single name.

Delia

It was the semi-finals of the Lily of the Valley Conference. The stadium was jam-packed with trainers and fans from all over the world. So naturally, when the two trainers faced each other on the field, the cheers were so loud that for some minutes, nothing else could be heard.

Ash Ketchum looked at the opposite trainer with careful eyes. He knew that Tobias trained legendary pokemon and that his reputation was well earned. Destroying almost the entire competition was no easy task. They were scarily powerful pokemon. He still remembered the Darkrai who had fought against Dialga and Palkia in Alamos town.

Ash Ketchum may have been just fifteen years old, but he had seen and done things that even old experienced elite trainers had not heard of, let alone done.

He knew that he would've had to be his most elite team to battle the man in front of him. Thankfully, he had been able to make preparations to win this battle. Even if he didn't win this battle, this would be a fight that Tobias would remember for the rest of his life.

He could easily see that the trainer was underestimating him based on the fact that he had brought his Pikachu. Ash internally smirked in amusement. He had brought his big guns in this battle. It had taken Professor Oak quite some time to assemble and help him, but he was ready.

Ash had half a mind to start with Pikachu and wipe that smirk off Tobias' face when his starter wiped the floor against the Dark-type legendary. But it would be a foolish move and would only tire Pikachu out for the future opponents.

He slowed down his breathing as he tried to calm his fraying nerves. He knew it would almost be as tough as fighting the Battle Frontier, if not harder than that.

"This is an official six-on-six semi-final battle of the Valley of Lily Conference between Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town in Kanto and Tobias from Sandgem City. Pokemon substitution is allowed at any moment. There is no time limit and all the other League clauses apply. Now, send out your first Pokemon!" The referee said, raising his red and green flags.

"Go, Darkrai!" Tobias called out his Pitch-Black Pokemon. The audience cheered as the legendary appeared on the field, managing to look menacing and regal at the same time.

"Go, Infernape!" Ash called out. The fire-monkey pokemon appeared on the field in a burst of flames before staring down at his opponent with anticipation. Ash knew it was his pokemon's first time facing down a legendary.

(A/N- Surprise, Surprise! Infernape deserved more time in my opinion. He was a better counter than Sceptile and was more efficient to deal with Darkrai. Sceptile would be used but not now.)

"Infernape, I want you to follow my orders to a T. We cannot afford to make any mistakes here. Remember your training," he calmly spoke to his pokemon, making sure to stress the importance of this battle.

"Let the battle begin!" the referee shouted out.

"Darkrai, use Dark Void!" Tobias ordered.

"Vacuum Wave it and dodge," Ash called out.

Much to Tobias' surprise, the Vacuum Wave collided with the Dark Void, slowing it down temporarily as the fire type moved out of the way, engulfed in bluish-red flames.

"Keep using Flame Charge," Ash commanded his pokemon. He knew that it would take several minutes of flame charge to make Infernape fast enough to counter Darkrai's speed.

"Darkrai, barrage Dark Void and keep going until you hit it," Tobias spoke to the dark-type, only amused by the pitiful attempt of his opponent.

Infernape however, paid no heed to the attacks. He kept running across the field, dodging and manoeuvring around the attacks with his agility and vacuum wave combination.

After several minutes of his Darkrai dodging attacks, Tobias gritted his teeth in anger.

"Darkrai, use Rock Tomb and send them around the field," he ordered.

Ash was ready. "Infernape, Dig into the ground. Create several holes around the entire field," he ordered in hurry. Thankfully, the several usages of Flame Charge had made him agile enough as he disappeared into the ground.

Darkrai fired several Shadow Balls and Dark Pulses around him, anticipating an attack. Most of them missed.

"Keep using Mach Punches! Hit and Run," Ash spoke, a smile forming on his face as his plan was all set.

The audience watched in surprise as the blazingly agile Infernape kept appearing out of holes and damaging Darkrai before he returned to another hole. Since the strikes were so random, it was difficult for the Dark-type to predict the next attack. While the attacks relied more on speed than power, so many successful strikes had taken a toll as the legendary looked much more tired than he had been in any of his previous battles.

"Darkrai, use Earthquake! Flush all of them out," Tobias ordered, seeing that he wouldn't go anywhere this way.

(A/N- I know Darkrai can't learn Earthquake. But it can do that in his fic. Besides, the move makes more sense than something like Blizzard.)

"Oh! No, you don't. Infernape use Double Team into Close Combat. Confuse Darkrai!" Ash shouted, worry apparent in his eyes.

Several copies of Infernape appeared on the field as the very stadium shook due to the Ground-type move. They appeared pretty roughed up and Ash knew that he had to end it soon. His pokemon had neither the experience nor the stamina to go against Darkrai.

Infernape clones approached the weary Darkrai who started preparing a Blizzard to destroy them all in one sweep.

"Mach Punch! Get close and use Close Combat on it," he ordered. If the Blizzard hit the clones, they would lose all the advantages.

"Protect!" came the reply. It was the first time that Tobias was forced to be defensive in any of his matchups.

A greenish-blue dome surrounded Darkrai as the Protect shield activated. Infernape paid no mind as he collided his punches with the shield, unable to break it.

Infernape then began to ruthlessly attack the shield from all angles, not caring at all about himself. The shield began to form several cracks on it as Infernape pounded on it for several minutes. The clones had all but faded away as a single pokemon pummeled the shield with all his might.

Ash smirked. He had Darkrai trapped in his little web.

Tobias had enough of that. "Darkrai, use Dark Pulse to push Infernape back followed by a Dark Void!"

"Take it!" Ash shouted.

"What?" Tobias sounded confused at his statement.

The Dark Pulse pushed back Infernape several feet away into the stadium wall before he managed to fire a Vacuum Wave on instinct to dodge the incoming Dark Void.

Infernape roared in anger as his Blaze ability activated, bathing him in flames. Ash knew that he had only one chance to hit it. Tobias realized it too as they both ordered their pokemon for the final move.

"Darkrai, go for Giga Impact!"

"Infernape, Flare Blitz!"

Darkrai was surrounded in a white aura before he rushed towards his opponent. Infernape, on the other hand, condensed the red-hot flames around him as he started running towards the advancing Darkrai. Both of them were using their most powerful moves.

Both the pokemon stretched themselves to their limits as they collided in the centre of the field in a blaze of explosion.

Smoke covered the field as both the trainers worriedly looked towards the field, anticipating the result.

No matter what, there would only be a single pokemon standing. Tobias was sure that his Darkrai would survive. Ash believed in his Infernape.

But there can only be one winner. Who would it be?

Haha. So the first battle is over. But who would be the victor? I will try to post part two by next week. It's gonna be a six-part multi-shot so stay tuned. I'd appreciate your likes, follow and any suggestions or comments you have for this fic.

It's my first pokemon one-shot. The next chapter will be up as soon as I write it.

Your reviews and love would be appreciated. I'm working on three full-time Harry Potter stories that can be accessed from my profile. Do check it out if you're into that fandom. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

This is a link to my humble Discord abode. It has several fanfiction writers and readers. It's mainly a Harry Potter server, but I'll try to add Pokemon related stuff to it.
