A/N: I do not own anything related to Dinosaur King. Just my OCs.
Sixty five million years ago, beasts of unimaginable proportions used to roam the Earth. They were known as dinosaurs. They came in many different sizes and possessed different characteristics than modern day animals. They ruled over either the land, sea, or sky. Many were seen as terrifying or extraordinary.
Unfortunately their time on this planet was rather gone too quick and the only remains were bones that are dug up and placed on display.
As for what happened, many believe the idea of a meteor hitting the Earth or volcanoes erupting. Millions of dinosaurs met their end. Their D-Day.
THUD*
"Ow," muttered a young male brunette as he hit the floor, dreaming about dinosaurs. The teenager shook his head, rubbing it in somewhat pain as he returned to his bed and continued to read his book.
A book about his favorite topic: dinosaurs. He had tons of figurine dinosaurs around his room, even a jungle like wallpaper. He flipped to the next page which depicted a picture of a meteor hitting the Earth, causing an extinction level event. The male teenager shuddered at the idea of an event like that. It was a no-brainer why dinosaurs went extinct. His attention was drawn elsewhere when a shining object flew through the clear night sky.
"What is that?" he questioned before opening his window, "Maybe it's a meteor!" The object began to descend into a nearby forest. The teenager got up and began to knock on another door in the house, in a hurried but quiet pace, "Cole! Cole! Get up!"
The door opened and revealed another young male. He is Hispanic, has dark hair and brown eyes. "Anderson, it's like 2 AM. This had better be worth it," he said in groggily tone.
"I just saw a meteor!" The newly identified Anderson said in an excited tone.
"What?" Cole repeated, but before he could say anything, Anderson was already gone into his room.
"No time to talk! I'll call the others! I bet they'll flip when they hear about this!" the brunette said, having his mind set on telling everyone in their friend group.
Cole just sighed, "This just couldn't wait till morning, could it..." The hispanic closed the door, in hope of getting some shut eye before his friend dragged him out to go search for what he assumed is a meteor.
"Come on, guys! It's this way!" Anderson Merlos called out. The brunette was now dressed in a red t-shirt with white fangs that formed a mouth, jeans and red sneakers.
"Did he have to pick 2 AM to call us?" A groggy blonde, green eyed teenage boy said. This is Tyler Sipes. He is wearing a yellow sweatshirt that had black lines down the middle, jeans, and white converse.
"Yeah, if it was around 7 or 8, I would be in a better mood," Cole Messinger said. The Hispanic had changed into a light gray t-shirt which was covered by a light blue hoodie, a pair of ripped jeans, and gray sneakers.
"Anderson, slow down!" An African American teenager with black hair and brown eyes shouted. This is Jackson Edenfield. He is wearing a blue tank top with matching sweatpants and sneakers.
"Yeah, not all of us are morning people!" A blonde female teenager with minor green highlights and violet eyes said. This is Tiffany Maroon. She is dressed in a green crop top, skinny jeans, and lime green converse high tops.
"I'm still trying to wake myself up," A short haired brunette with a purple bandana around her forehead said. This is Kierra Hy. She is sporting a violet undershirt covered with a magenta denim jacket, dark jeans, and purple tennis shoes.
"Oh come on guys," Anderson beckoned, "I didn't call that early."
"Yes, you did," his friends said in unison, all clearly peeved with the development.
"Okay, okay," the male brunette admitted, "But this could be a new discovery!"
"Anderson, just because a potential meteorite was seen by you and crashed into the forest, doesn't mean you: A. call us in the morning, B. rush over here to make sure that we find it, and C. drag some of us out of bed," Cole said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"I was having the best dream too," Kierra muttered.
"Plus, I didn't exactly eat this morning," Jackson pointed out and for emphasis, his stomach growled indicating his hunger.
"I doubt we are even going to find anything," Tiffany said.
"Umm guys?" Tyler called out, "You might want to see this."
The friend group walked over to their friend's location and saw what he had seen. A few trees had been knocked down and a long crater like line was could be seen.
"See!" Anderson exclaimed, "This could be a new discovery!" And with that he took off. His friends shared glances before following him.
Upon seeing the crater get deeper, the six friends discovered where Anderson had wondered off to. "Hey, check this out," Anderson said, observing a rock that had seemed to split in half.
"A meteor did that?" Jackson whistled.
"Seems like it," Tyler spoke up.
Anderson peered into the rock and found something odd in it. It seemed to be an engraving on a stone of some sort. "Hey guys, check this out," Anderson said and pulled out the engraving. It had a picture of a fireball on it.
"I found something too," Tyler said, picking up a similar engraved stone but with a lightning bolt on it.
"Same here," Cole had picked up an engraved stone with a series of wind like movements.
"Ditto," Jackson held one in his hand of rain droplets bunched together.
"Anyone else get one that resembles grass?" Tiffany mentioned as she picked up her's.
"Nope, I got mountains on mine," Kierra said, identifying her own.
Anderson, being the most curious out of all of them, slowly observed the engraving and the stone. Flipping the back of it, he found a knob. Curious, he began to play with the knob. "Why would a stone have a knob?" he asked aloud. After turning the knob to a right the second time, he began engulfing in a red and orange aura. The aura gave him a spook which he fell on his behind.
Auras soon began to engulf his friends as well. Tyler had a yellow aura, Cole with white, Jackson with a dark and light blue, Tiffany with a light and dark green, and Kierra with a purple.
"... Okay, I'm gonna say it. What was that?" Kierra said, bringing their stun expressions to an end.
"How should any of us know?" Cole logically explained.
Anderson pulled himself up before noticing something else in the split rock. It seemed to be capsule, but it was cracked open, possibly from being in the rock. Anderson is sure how that happen but with the capsule had three cards in it. One was a grey outline and the two others had an orange outline. Two had the same fireball symbol as the stone while one was blank.
Anderson, being curious again, took one card and observed. What he saw surprised him.
"Is this... a T-rex?" the red clothed teenager said in confusion and surprise. He noticed how the dinosaur card had the fireball on it like the stone he picked up. "Maybe they go together?" Anderson slid the cards together (by accident and in the right way) before a red glow appeared. The light caught the attention of others and had their hands to block the glare. The light died down and revealed something that shock all the members.
A red Tyrannosaurus Rex with green eyes, a yellow stripe along the flank, and a tan underside.
Everyone gave the proper reaction to the sight: panicking.
"AHHHHHHH!" They all screamed before hiding behind foliage that had not fallen.
"Again! What just happened?!" Kierra said from her position.
"Whatever just happened, let's not draw the carnivore towards us!" Tyler suggested.
"Anderson, do something!" Jackson hissed as he glared at the brunette.
"What?! Why me?!" the 'summoner' said.
"Because you might know how to reverse it before we all become lunch after sixty five million years!" Cole deduced and rushed as the Cretaceous carnivore began to stomp his way over.
Anderson began to fumble with the stone, in an effort to do something. The T-rex slowly made his way closer to his summoner, Anderson's friends fleeing to save themselves from being eaten. Anderson luckily was able to reverse the effects and transform the dinosaur into his card, much to everyone's relief. The card floated down to the ground and everyone present began to return now that the threat was gone, noting how even more trees were demolished.
"Again! What the hell just happened!" Kierra shouted for the third time of the day.
"What happened to the T-rex?" Tyler asked the most obvious question.
"Did it turn back into a card?" Tiffany questioned.
"Impossible," Cole said in a matter of fact tone, "It makes zero sense. It must have been a hologram."
"Last time I checked, technology that advance does not exist yet," Jackson stated.
"Yeah! And no way that was a hologram! That was the real deal! Teeth and scales in all!" Anderson excitedly exclaimed. To him it was like a dream come true.
His friends on the other hand were more skeptical than enthusiastic. Cole was trying to put together the clues; Jackson, Tiffany, and Kierra were observing their stones; and Tyler was trying to wrap his head around the fact that a Tyrannosaurus Rex just appeared.
Anderson soon had another idea come to mind. Maybe he could tame the T-rex! After all, it did become his in the first place. He was about to swipe the card against the stone together again...
"Anderson, don't!" Cole shouted to prevent the dinosaur from appearing out of nowhere.
"Don't worry!" Anderson dismissed, "I got it under control!" 'I hope...' He thought before swiping the card again...
but this time, the carnivore was more... well... chibi-like. The t-rex was now at the size of their knees and looked very different than the last time Merlos swiped the card.
"Huh?" all present boys said while Tiffany and Kierra gushed at the sight, "Oh my gosh! He's so adorable!"
"How about we not gush over the carnivore?" Tyler suggested before Anderson approached the chibi T-Rex.
'Not what I was expecting, but I can work with this. Alright, time to be the dominant species,' Anderson thought, marching up to the dinosaur. He was about to say hi but the t-rex nibbled at his jeans. His teeth were not as sharp but Anderson still yelped in pain. His friends began to snicker at the development.
"Well, he either likes you or wants to eat," Jackson joked before Anderson plucked off the T-rex.
"Well, I'm not a piece of meat for any animal to eat. I'm Anderson," the brunette addressed to the T-rex, who tilted his head in confusion.
This would be the start of something the group would not believe.
Elsewhere, there is a wooden arena with dinosaurs fighting each other.
One was a lime green Megaraptor roared and leapt onto the incoming dark green Sauropelta. The armored dinosaur merely swatted her club-less tail towards the raptor, who leapt away before attempting to slash at her.
In another part, there is a green Anatotitan bellowed before ramming into a black striped, tan Titanosaurus. The sauropod merely shook her leg before attempting to flatten the hadrosaur, but it was avoided and the hadrosaur let out a call.
A dark green Sinoceratops stomped his foot in anger before getting in a headlock with a yellow Mapusaurus. The theropod began to push with all his might and won the lock up and slapped the ceratopsian away.
A red Oxalaia hissed at his opponent: a gray Chungkingosaurus. The stegosaur bellowed and charged before the spinosaurid reared up before swiping his claws at the thagomizers.
Sitting above the multiple fights was an old, short man with an abnormal large beard, eyebrows and a tuff of hair. He wore a lab coat with a red A while at his side, two androids stood at attention. The man couldn't help but have an evil smile plastered along his face.
Unfortunately, the coliseum and dinosaurs were nothing more than a simulation. But the man was very much real, just watching the video.
"Ahh! It looks great! Although, I said I wanted a Roman coliseum!" the man declared as he pointed to the accused: a short, portly man with blue hair wearing brown overalls and a blue shirt with the same red A symbol.
"Sorry, Dr. Z! I couldn't remember how you wanted to coliseum, but then I decided to go with a nice wooden arena for the dinosaurs! Surely that would work right?" the blue-haired guy said in a scared tone.
"You buffoon!" the identified Dr. Z said, "The dinosaurs would tear that in an instant!"
"Well, maybe they won't?" the fat man suggested.
"And why would they?" Dr. Z inquired.
The man began to sweat bullets, stuttering before coming up with a lie, "Because... they... like you...?"
The lie apparently worked as Dr. Z began to think about, "Hmmmm. I suppose you're right. I mean what dinosaurs wouldn't enjoy me as the Dinosaur King!" He had a fire in his eyes and in the background as he pictured dinosaurs bowing before him as if it was 'The Lion King.'
The imagination shattered the minute a new dinosaur broke into the room. The dinosaur was an Acrocanthosaurus with an odd coloration. It was predominantly pink and magenta around the sail and top half while the underside was black. Once the room was destroyed, it revealed the men were in a rainforest biome.
The two men looked in fear, Dr. Z taking off and not wanting to be consumed by the Acrocanthosaurs before getting chased by him. The predator loved it when his prey played hard to get.
On a beach not far, a tall man with black hair, shades, and brown trench coat gave a green haired woman a martini. The woman was wearing a bikini as her umbrella was giving her a nice shade. "Ahh~! Just wait I need," the woman said as she was enjoying her beach day.
"AHHHH! SOMEONE HELP ME! I HAVE A HUNGRY THEROPOD ON MY TAIL!" Dr. Z yelled as he ran by the duo with said theropod coming close. The Acrocanthosaurus snapped his jaws but narrowly missed the doctor.
On the side, two children watched as the dinosaur chased the doctor. Scratch that, their grandfather. One was a boy, dressed a bit like a miner with a brown shirt, pants, boots, a hat with googles, and a belt with a red A. The other was a girl with pink hair in a dark brown oversized shirt from the looks of it. In the girl's hands were a black device with yellow antennas and a screen that depicted the Acrocanthosaurs' face.
"Should I call Arthur back?" the girl said, enjoying the sight.
"Hm. Maybe... now," the boy said before the doctor tripped and was at the jaws of the theropod.
The girl returned the dinosaur to his card before getting it in her hand and laughing at the sight of their grandfather's position, with his pants having a hole and revealing the dinosaur briefs he was wearing.
"Rod! Laura!" a stern voice that caused the two children to freeze in their antics. The two turned to see a brown haired muscular like woman in an apron. "I assume your studies are done?"
Both kids shamefully shrunk down before answering in unison, "No..."
"Then get to it!" the woman said and turned to the slender man, green haired woman, and portly man, "Lunch will be ready soon. We are having frankfurters!"
"Yes, Helga," the trio said as the woman left. The moment she did, the trio let out a breath of relief. "Frankfurters again? I think I might be sick after this time," the green haired woman -Ursula- said.
"For once, could we have something like pizza?" the portly man -Ed- asked.
"It was either that or her bratwurst," the slender man -Zander- said.
"Who's the worst!?" Dr. Z shouted before composing himself, "Helga may be a stern, frightening, a bit crotchety..." the doctor began to list the many personalities that made the maid -Helga- scary before ending it, "... and disciplining but she has a sweet side! And just because you three haven't seen it doesn't mean that we have!" he ended with a huff.
'You're just saying that because you have a crush,' the trio thought.
"Good afternoon, Doctor," a calm voice said. Dr. Z turned to be approached by a black haired man in a lab coat much like himself but with a dark shade that the A symbol on the pocket.
"Ah! Trenton!" the doctor composed himself, not wanting to make a fool of him in front of one of his loyal and the second smartest -Dr. Z considered himself the first- person on his team. "How are we doing on the repairs on the time machine coming along?"
Trenton answered in an indifferent tone, "They're coming along slowly. But I discovered we are missing a few parts. But we will have them delivered."
"How can we?" Dr. Z inquired, "We are in a different time period. And more importantly, my dinosaur cards are scattered all over the world! None have appeared since we have been stranded here."
The 'future king' then noticed the yellow antennas blinking red on the Alpha Scanner in Laura's hands. "What's this I see?! You are using the Alpha Scanner for childish antics!?"
"What do you mean?" Laura tried to sweet talk her way out of her grandpa's fury. It failed since Dr. Z swiped the scanner.
"This isn't some toy! This is a complicated piece of technology for doctors and scientists!" He lectured before noticing the red blinking lights on the antenna. "What does this mean?" The Alpha Trio just face-faulted at question as the children regained the device.
"It means that a dinosaur card has been found," Trenton spoke.
"I knew that," he dismissed as if he already knew that before getting a grin, "That means one of my dinosaur cards has been found! Now let's go find it!"
"And that's what happened," Anderson explained as his dad placed a bandage on his nose. It had been one of the new places the T-rex bit at.
"You really saw a real life Tyrannosaurus Rex?" Anderson's dad said with stars in his eyes. His dad was no other than the famous paleontologist Spencer Merlos. He wore a red jacket over his white t-shirt, jeans, brown boots, and a cowboy hat.
"Yeah, Tate here is the real deal," his son replied. The chibi T-rex or Tate gave a small roar that Tiffany and Kierra gushed over. The boys of the friend group just sweat-dropped at their antics.
"Wait, you named it?" Cole stressed, hopefully thinking that Anderson did not just pick a 'stray' dinosaur from a card. How that worked just baffled the Latino.
"Yeah?" Merlos said in the phrase of a question, "Is that a problem?"
"Anderson, once you name it, you get attached to it!" Tyler emphasized.
"Well, it's not like I want to keep him in a card forever," Anderson retorted, "He's an animal with his own rights. Plus if he wanted to, he would have left the minute I summoned him in this... form."
The boys were about to say their own suggestion but it died down. True the T-rex seemed to accept Anderson as a... owner, per say.
"Wait. How do you know it's a boy?" Jackson asked before Merlos shrugged, "Instinct?"
Spencer then looked at the capsules and leftover cards, "And these came with them?"
"Yeah," Jackson spoke before placing his fingers to his chin, "But we are not sure what they are for."
"Yes quite the mystery," the paleontologist said before taking Tate. "I must know everything about you! Your habits, behavior, we already know what you eat, your true appearance..." he went on and on about everything he wanted to know before Anderson retrieved the chibi dinosaur.
"Easy, dad," the son said, "But if you want to see his true appearance," he pulled out the stone he found, "You got to use these."
Spencer observed the stone before noticing the knob. He fidgeted with it but nothing happened. "Nothing's happening."
"Let me try," Anderson said before fidgeting the knob. This time Tate returned to his card and into the brunette's hand. He swiped them together before a red glow summoned Tate to his full size again.
"Ahhh!" The kids shouted while Spencer said his in admiration. Anderson immediately returned the theropod before anyone saw. He slid the card the other direction and Tate appeared back in his miniature form.
"THIS IS A HUGE DISCOVERY!" Spencer yelled before whispering to the gathered friends of his son, "But we probably should keep this between us. Mom's the word. If this gets out, chaos could ensue!" The last part was more dramatic which caused the teenagers to sweat drop, Anderson feeling embarrassed as this was his dad.
"Time for breakfast!" a voice called out. The gathered group turned to see Anderson's mom, Jessica, with an apron on. "Oh, I didn't know you had your friends over, Anderson."
The party tensed before Kierra replied in a nervous manner, "Yeah... we just got here." Jessica then took notice of Tate, the miniature T-rex tilting his head in confusion at the newcomer.
"Oh what do we have here?" Jessica said. She went to pet Tate, who oddly accepted it and began to softly growl at the attention. The party who knew the truth let out breaths of relief that Tate didn't make any attempts to bite.
"That's Tate," her son informed before picking the theropod up.
"Aww~ He looks cute. What kind of pet is he?" Jessica asked her son, who inwardly flinched before trying to come up with an excuse.
"He's a... new exotic breed!" Anderson lied which his mother accepted.
"He followed Anderson home. Can we keep him?" Spencer begged in a cute manner with Tate in his arms. The small tyrannosaur struggled in the grasp, making some attempts to bite the paleontologist.
"Of course, we can," Jessica reassured before adding something, "But he will be your responsibility Anderson. Meaning food, water, hygiene, even if he leaves little 'treats' around the house."
Anderson sweat-dropped at the list of responsibilities he now had, "I promise, mom."
Jessica began to walk back into the house, "OK, let's eat breakfast before it gets cold. It's one of your favorites, Ty."
Ignoring the nickname, Tyler's eyes turned to stars, "You mean blueberry pancakes!" With a nod from, he dashed inside. The friend group just gave blank stares as they knew Tyler was quite the foodie.
When the mom left, Anderson whispered to his dad, "So we keep it a secret from Mom?"
"Yes, but only for a while," Spencer replied in a whisper.
Tate, not knowing what's happening, just walked in the room before smelling a sweat aroma. Looks like he was about have his first meal in sixty-five million years.
Back on the island, the Alpha Gang looked at a digital map of the world. Ursula had slipped into a red jumpsuit with a burgundy-colored cloak, pink gloves that exposed her fingers, and red high heels. Their logo was on a choker around her neck.
Trenton was busy typing on the computer below the map. He surveyed his coordinates before pinpointing where Tate's card signature had occurred. "There. Japan. Looks like in a small rural area."
"Perfect," Dr. Z said with a scheming grin, "Alpha Gang, prepare to deploy for our first dinosaur roundup mission! Take Arthur with you since he looks in need of a good fight. Failure is not an option! Understood?"
"You can count on us, sir!" Ursula said before she and the men saluted their leader. With that they left.
Ready to head to Japan.
In said location, it had become nightfall. At a nearby laboratory, Spencer was currently working on a theory regrading the stones. The laboratory went by the name of the D-Lab which was mainly used by the aforementioned paleontologist and Tiffany's older sister: Fiona. She has chestnut hair, glasses, a brown shirt that was covered by her white lab coat, and jeans.
Right now, the two scientists were in the center of the lab, identifying an object of some sort with advanced technology.
"Accessing data and awaiting user input." An automated voice from the computer said. "Assessing... Assessing... Fossil reclamation in progress at station 4710."
Spencer had his arms crossed as he looked at the large TV screen across the computers. It was showing the blueprints of a handheld device that the stones the group had been found were being inserted into. "Any updates on the translation devices, Fiona?" He asked his partner as he turned around.
"Nothing yet. But hopefully, this unit will be able to decode whatever is in the knob or chip of the stones," the brunette scientist said, not looking away from the screen. "But on a more serious note, what makes you think is the connection between the dinosaur and the stones? What part of your research led you to that conclusion?"
Spencer looked at the gathered six stones, the objects currently being plugged into the antenna, before monologging, "I'm glad you asked, Fiona. I estimate that these here stones were created sixty-five millions years ago at the exact time the dinosaurs went extinct. My analysis shows they're admitting some form of consciousness. It would seem the dinosaurs share a connection to these stones, summoning them to full size, so it is a possibility that the dinosaurs never went extinct at all! I don't know who invented it but the chip contains a system that turns dinosaurs into cards! Perhaps they all transformed into cards with the help of future technology in some way! Yet another Spencer Merlos theory!" With a fire in his eyes, the paleontologist turned to his assistant...
Who was still working on the devices and not even addressing the him.
"She's never impressed." Spencer slumped over and anime cried at his working theory.
In the Pacific Ocean, the Alpha Gang cruised in style...
In the form of a monster themed submarine. Heading towards the coast of Japan, a periscope raised up to check their surroundings.
"Destination, dead ahead!" Ursula announced as she deemed her the one with luxury and least work as Ed and Zander operated the front. "Prepare to surface!"
"Aye, aye, captain," Zander and Ed said in unison. They pressed a button to raise the sub...
But hit a large cargo ship from below.
"I didn't say to surface yet!" Ursula yelled as the sub began to fill up with water.
"Good thing, this is just a rental!" Ed said, trying to lighten things up.
It didn't help as Zander replied, "Lucky for you! This sub was on my card!" The sub began to sink beneath the water.
The next day, Anderson was currently out with his new 'pet' dinosaur.
"Alright, Tate, catch this!" Anderson announced as he tossed the frisbee to the miniature theropod. Tate leaped, biting the frisbee before chewing on it. The frisbee began to have slobber all on it as the t-rex bent it with the object's flimsy build.
"Tate! Don't do that! You'll break it!" Merlos said before trying to pry the disc from the infamous dinosaur.
On the sidelines, his friends just watched the duo have fun. But as much as they didn't want to admit, they felt jealous at the interaction between man and dinosaur.
"Man, Anderson is lucky to have him, isn't he?" Jackson said which the rest of the group nodded.
"Yeah, and they've bonded. I can tell they're gonna be great friends, brothers even," Cole observed.
"... Do you think we will have partners someday?" Kierra spoke the question on everyone's mind.
"... Who knows? Maybe we will," Tiffany said, resting her hands behind her head.
"Yeah... but I don't want a carnivore. I'll settle for a herbivore," Tyler remarked.
"What's in the water?" The question brought attention to the five observers from their conversation. They walked over to the balcony where a small group of citizens saw a shadow in the water.
"It's coming right for us!"
"Maybe it's a whale?"
"That doesn't look like any whale I've seen!"
"Whatever it is, let's get out of here!"
The group began to disperse one by one, running away from the approaching creature or object. Everyone tried to make out what was in the water before backing away.
"What's going on?" Anderson said, running to his friends with Tate in his arms.
"Either there is a submarine demo going on or a new sea creature is about to be discovered by us," Cole replied.
The answer came sooner than expected as a pink and magenta colored Arcocanthosaurus appeared, giving a loud roar to announce its entrance.
"An Acrocanthosaurus?!" Tyler identified.
"Are there other dinosaurs out there, after all?!" Kierra shouted.
With the Alpha Gang, they had managed to resurface form the sub flooding, gasping for air. Zander looked up, checked his hair, and smugly said, "And the hair still stands."
"Where's Arthur?" Ursula asked, looking for their dinosaur.
"He's right over there," Zander pointed to the enhanced theropod roaring.
Ursula smugly smiled herself before hearing a cry of help, "Help me! I don't know how to swim!"
Ed struggled to stay afloat before grabbing the board that supported the two other members.
"You idiot!" Ursula snarled at him, "Don't grab on! With your weight, it'll cause this thing to sink back into the w-" She wasn't able to finish as the board capsized.
Meanwhile, Arthur eyed his prey. When he saw Tate in his miniature form, he licked his lips before growling in a low manner.
"Okay, so new fact: Acrocanthosaurus can swim!" Cole said as they slowly backed away.
"Why are we not staying still? Can they not see of us if we move?!" Tyler said, recalling the small advice from Jurassic Park when Rexy broke out of her exhbit.
"That was in a movie! And I think it wouldn't work!" Kierra said before Arthur began his attack.
"Split up!" Anderson announced, "It can't get us all at once!" Trusting the brunette's plan, they all ran away from the scene, splitting up. Apparently this proved ineffective as Arthur had eyes for Tate and the human that was currently carrying him.
Just then, Spencer showed up carrying a large rod. "Oh, wow! A new species of dinosaur!" He was surprisingly cheerful, despite the pink theropod causing destruction. "Dad!" Anderson shouted as his dad's protective instincts came out.
"Stand back!" Spencer ran up to Arthur and announced his presence, "Listen here, mister theropod! It's nice to meet you! A meeting 65 million years in the making! Now prepared to be snared!" He pressed a button and the rod turned into a butterfly net. Spencer charged the enhanced dinosaur and swung the net at him. "I'm coming for ya!"
The net only covered the beginning of Arthur's mouth. In the carnivore's mind, he mentally found this contraption to be rather pointless before shredding it apart and resuming his hunt.
"Needs work," Spencer said to himself before the Early Cretaceous theropod ran past him and after his son. "Anderson!"
'Why do I get the feeling he's after me,' Anderson said before hiding in an ice cream shop. Arthur smashed it apart with a head swing before drooling at the sight of his prey. Anderson scooted back, paralyzed with fear, but Tate came to his rescue. The miniature theropod nibbled at the nose of the larger predator (as of right now) which was just as irritating as the contraption the other human had used.
Arthur swung his head, sending Tate into a tree. The Acrocanthosaurus now had a truly prehistoric meal in mind, marching up to the weak t-rex.
Anderson watched in horror as the other theropod made his approach. What was he supposed to do? If only he had the stone with him to make him full-sized. Then Tate could have a fighting chance!
"Anderson!" The brunette turned to see his dad holding a device, "Use this!" He tossed it towards his son who caught it. The young Merlos looked at the design: it was a gray device with a handle, many buttons, a screen, a knob on the back, and a slot with the fireball symbol from his stone.
"What's this for?!" He asked.
"It's designed to work like your stones, but easier!" His dad explained before tossing a manual to his son. "You can use it to make Tate bigger! Read the manual!"
Given the situation his new friend is currently in, Anderson just replied, "Uh, I'll just trust you and read it later!" He began to frantically push buttons before Tate transformed into his card form in the hands of the 'summoner.'
"Here we go!" He called out as he slashed the card on the slot. Then his dinosaur began to transform.
In a red dimension, Tate was on the ground before it erupted underneath him. First, his legs grew with fire, then his tail, and finally his large mouth with a fiery flash to his eyes. The now full grown Tyrannosaurus spun around and roared to signal his finished transformation.
In the real world, Tate landed after a bright glow of red-orange color. He then roared at his opponent which Arthur roared back at.
Anderson, his friends and dad looked around as the world's color changed like watercolor had been painted. "What happened?" Spencer asked no one in particular since no one had the answer.
"I feel like a giant prune," Zander commented as the Alpha Gang managed to crawl out of the water from their 'deep-sea excursion.' Two roars broke them out of their slump before noticing how the environment changed.
"Where's Arthur?" Ursula asked.
Tate snarled at the carcharodontosaurid, who merely growled back. Both theropods sized each other up before charging and met in a headlock. Arthur had more strength and experience, so he began to push this fight into the street. The sudden emergence of the two carnivores caused a pile up which the drivers and any passengers drove away to avoid being crushed.
Arthur soon gained the upper hand, biting into Tate's neck. The bite caused the T-Rex to roar in agony before the 'high-spined lizard' threw the 'tyrant lizard' to the ground and began to repeatedly kick the exposed stomach of the Late Cretaceous theropod.
"Tate!" Anderson cried out.
"Forget it, Anderson," Cole grimly stated, "This Acrocanthosaurus is on a whole new level of power. Tate can't take this much longer."
"So what now?" Tiffany said worryingly.
Anderson could only become frustrated as Tate was hit over and over again by Arthur's foot. A blinking noise caused Merlos to look at the device. It showed Tate's card blinking red, possibly signaling low health. He began to push buttons, hoping for something to happen that could help his new friend. Soon, a card came out of the device, having the same symbol as Tate's.
"I don't know what those cards do, but I included them in your holder just in case," Spencer explained, "Now seems like a good time to try them out."
Anderson took his dad's word for it and grabbed the card. 'Here goes nothing.' He thought before swiping the card.
Soon, Tate's body began to glow red, outlining his appearance and a circle beneath him. This caused the attacker to get blinded and back off while Tate got back up with newfound strength and began to attack with elemental properties.
Tate's mouth began to generate fire, the user waving his head around. Arthur stood ready for whatever the attack was but didn't except flames to combust right beneath him. The attack sent him flying away.
Upon impact, Arthur landed on his side, clearly in pain. He made an effort to get up but failed, evident in turning back into a card. As it did, the environment changed back to normal.
The teenagers could only watch the action in amazement. Something they thought could only be done in cartoons or video games. Tate ended his fire abilities before collapsing and reverting back to a card, his strength all gone.
"I gotcha," Anderson said, getting his card.
"Is he OK?" Jackson asked.
"Try a swipe," Cole suggested.
Anderson nodded before swiping the card the opposite direction and Tate reappeared as his chibi-form. The tiny theropod stumbled around a bit before his summoner caught him. "Are you all right, buddy?" Tate gave a small, nib on his owner's arm, not a painful one but one of reassuring.
"Yeah, he's fine alright," Kierra said. Tyler turned to where the Acrocanthosaurus landed before seeing it gone as well, "Looks like the foe turned into a card as well."
Just then, Ursula came and grabbed Arthur, "Who do you brats think you are, screwing up our very important mission?!" she yelled at the teeangers.
"My name is Anderson, but who are you?" He and his friends were more curious than intimidated. If Tate was at his full size, they would be running scared.
"If you must know, we're the Alpha Gang?" Ursula made known.
"Imagine your worst nightmare!" Zander said striking a pose before Ed did a different one, "Except you're wide awake!"
The trio announced their names in a ludicrous manner.
"Oh, so Ursula!"
"Zantastic Zander!"
"Ed! I said!"
"... Do you guy understand any of that?" Merlos asked his friends who shrugged.
"Nope."
"Not one word."
"Absurd."
"They act like Team Rocket."
"Should we send them blasting off?"
"Wait a minute! You guys must have been behind the attack!" Cole deduced which made the chosen stone users glare at the accused.
"Well, that's for us to know and for you brats to find out, isn't it," Ursula declared before pointing a finger at them, "But if you brats ever mess with us again, you will find out! Let's go!" She grabbed her two partners and dragged them away.
"Wow, she's weird," Jackson commented.
"Who? The old lady?" Tiffany asked before the 'old lady' returned.
"Excuse me?! Did you just say, old lady?! I'm not old! I'm barely in my teens!" Ursula said before her partners dragged her away to avoid any conflicts since they lost their big guns.
After the 'Alpha Gang' left, Anderson addressed his dad, "So, Dad, what is this thing?"
"A Dino Holder," Spencer explained.
"It's just like the stone?" Anderson said, examining the device in a slower manner now.
"I bet it does a lot more than that," Cole theorized.
"That's right. The part that contains the stone can act as a translator. It can take the thoughts in the stones and put them into words. But we are still working out the kinks for that." Spencer said. He reached into his bag and grabbed five more Dino Holders. "I also have them for the rest." He said as he handed them to the kids. Everyone got their corresponding stone: Cole with the Wind Stone, Tyler with the Lightning Stone, Tiffany with the Grass Stone, Jackson with the Water Stone, and Kierra with the Earth Stone.
Suddenly, the screens began to glow as the teenagers were engulfed in a glow like before. The light also engulfed Tate, the tyrannosaur confused what was going on.
Unlike the last time, the teens now heard voices, all saying the same thing.
"Please. Help us."
Next time on Dinosaur King: Paleontology Unearthed
Anderson: Why is there a blinking light?
Fiona: It means another dinosaur has appeared.
Tyler: It's coming from the abandoned carnival!
Ursula: That dinosaur is as good as ours!
(A Triceratops roars at Tate before charging horns first into him.)
A/N: Hello there. I have been working on this story for a few months now and it's so relieving to finally post a chapter. This was mostly inspired from "Dinosaur King: Retold" by Drew Luczynski.
There will a few differences. For starters, there will be a few new dinosaurs like how the Oxalaia -a spinosaur- and the Sinoceratops -a ceratopsian- in the simulation. Another change will be where some dinosaurs appear such as the teaser for the second chapter. Some dinosaurus will be swapped and put in original chapters or changes in the canon plot.
But dinosaurs will still be named... at least mostly, I'm not as good with naming all dinosaurs. But I also have some fan-made move cards. PM me for any ideas you have on naming.
I also have some artwork regarding this story on my devianart, so check it out if you are interested.
This mostly won't be a monthly story but I will still try to get new chapters out.
No flames.
