Who Am I - Flood Gates - Chapter 9

Several weeks had gone by, Zuma had regained many things. But had resolved to begin relearning the basics of his job. Ryder showed him again how to use his pup pack, how to drive, and how to use the tools associated with his hovercraft.

The usual events happened but Ryder made sure no one went out alone. It would be the policy from now on that at least two of the pups would be together in the event something happened.

The pups were in the Lookout watching TV when the movie they were watching ended.

"Let's play Pup Pup Boogie" suggested Chase.

"Yeah" agreed everyone except Zuma.

"That sounds familiar," said Zuma "let's play and see if I can remember."

Zuma and Marshall were playing slow mode when the game came to a tailspin. As usual Marshall spun out of control, knocking Zuma off the pad and landing on top of him.

Marshall jumped to his paws. "Oh Zuma," Marshall cried out "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to knock you down. Are you ok?"

Zuma sat up laughing and said, "I'm fine. In fact I can't remember having this much fun since …"

Zuma had a strange look on his face. Everyone rushed over to him thinking he might have gotten hurt after all.

"Oh No!" cried Marshall "I hurt him. Someone call Ryder, call Katie. I'm soooo Sorry!"

Chase turned and was about to run to find Ryder when Zuma began to speak excitedly.

"No no it's ok" said Zuma excitedly "Ask me anything about the past. Ask me about how much I like to surf. Ask me about a particular rescue. It's all there, I can remember everything, I can REMEMBER!"

"What?" gasp everyone together.

"What's all the commotion" asked Ryder walking into the room.

Zuma turned to him hopping up and down, "I remember, I remember everything. I even remember driving out to Capt. Turbot's boat the day I got hurt. I remember seeing the propeller and turning to swim toward it when everything went black. That must have been when I got hit."

"I'm still sorry about that," said Rocky.

"And I told you accidents happen" answered Zuma "I could have happened to anyone. Except you Rocky, you don't like to get in the water. Rocky you came for me, you faced what you hate the most and saved me. I'll be grateful forever."

Rocky smiled and Zuma hugged him.

Then came everyone else into a team group hug.

"Thank you for calling Katie to check on me Ryder" said Zuma.

"What, how did you kn…" started Ryder, as he then looked down at his Paw Pad where he had just dialed Katie. Ryder was laughing as Katie answered the call.

"What?" asked Katie.

"It's Zuma" said Ryder "He has suddenly got his memory back. Would you like to come over and check him out?"

"I'm on the way," said Katie.

"Well,I guess you still have your gift" laughed Ryder.

Everyone laughed and began telling old stories which Zuma chimed in with details from time to time. Katie arrived and checked Zuma out giving a clean bill of health.

"I guess you won't need me as much now," said Rocky.

"No Rocky," said Zuma hugging the mixed breed closely "I will always need my best friend. Nothing will ever change that."

Everything was back to normal. Chase and Skye, Marshall and Everest, Ryder and Katie, Rubble and food and of course Zuma and Rocky, all together for many more adventures to come. Maybe everyone was a little tighter than before. Zuma's gift of premonition came through again from time to time.
