ONE WEEK LATER

Waking up before the sun rose, Jonathan dressed himself accordingly. These last seven days were spent wisely. After Jonathan had entranced Ayame, he had Teuchi return to the ramen shop to quell any suspicions. He then interrogated Ayame about what she knew about not only her father but also the neighbours.

The information he collected from one five-year-old girl was noteworthy. That same day, Jonathan hadn't wasted any time waiting. He spent that precious moment looking around the home and surveying the neighbours from an unseen location.

When Teuchi returned that night, both daughter and father were still under the influence of Jonathan's technique. He therefore used that moment to interrogate Teuchi about all that he knew. Things ranging from the neighbour's name, how he operated his business and how much money he made on a daily basis.

The currency in this world was the same as Jonathan expected: Ryō (両) It was created from one of Japan's old gold coins. This made sense since the world of ninjas was based on the late 1800's. One ryō would be equivalent to ten Japanese yen. And ten yen would equal roughly seven American pennies. All that information was learned when Jonathan was still back on earth.

Because Jonathan was now in control of Teuchi, he was also now in charge of his finances. Apart from that, the only things Teuchi did on a regular basis was work at his shop and pay his taxes. He was as average as a ramen shop owner could get. Even his daughter was average, earning grades in school without getting into trouble. Being in this circumstance only aided Jonathan's clandestineness.

The next few days, Jonathan had Teuchi buy a list of items for him. Since Jonathan wouldn't risk going out to shop, Teuchi (an adult with lots of money) made a great substitute. If anyone asked why he needed those things, he would say it was for his child. A lot of people knew Teuchi had a daughter. To hear she was practicing being a ninja in a village filled with them would be of no surprise. All in all, Jonathan's list consisted of standard ninja tools like kunai, shuriken and new clothes befitting his size. He had been wearing the same clothes for four straight days before coming to Teuchi's residence.

Nights were spent in solitude. Because Teuchi was a chef, Jonathan didn't need to cook. Both him and his daughter would joyfully eat together while Jonathan ate in his room undisturbed.

After the fourth day, Jonathan noticed the genjutsu placed on Teuchi and Ayame was still in effect. Each day he monitored the chakra flow in their brains with the sharingan. Even if the effects were lowered or dissipated, he would just have to reactive it.

It was crucial for him to gather as much intel on Jonathan's location as possible. Minor things like what the neighbour's did for a living or how much the property tax was for Teuchi weren't left out. Jonathan was more than careful. He had discernment. For instance, none of the neighbours left their homes before dawn. This was essential for Jonathan to know so he could exit the Teuchi residence when he needed to without being spotted.

Lastly, Jonathan paid strict attention to everyone else's behaviour. Like on earth, neighbours gossiped. As long as nothing abnormal was being said about Teuchi and his daughter, Jonathan would not need to take unnecessary action. If Jonathan wanted, he could place everyone in the neighbourhood under his sharingan genjutsu. But Teuchi alone was more than enough for Jonathan. He had a place to rest and a place to eat without problematic issues like rent.

Jonathan's plans for residency had taken full effect. All of Teuchi's profits would go to Jonathan. As long as he controlled Teuchi and Ayame's actions, Jonathan could limit what they did daily. With how effective things were already for his first week, Jonathan understood he could keep this charade on for years!

On the seventh day, Jonathan arose early in the morning. He knew the times the neighbours would also be awake, so he rose up earlier. He then opened his bedroom window and leapt out.
