Something that I rarely see addressed in the AHS fandom with Kyle is how he was abused by his mother and Madison. Both took advantage of him on separate occasions and caused trauma, while Zoe is the healthiest relationship he's ever had
Kyle rested his head upon Zoe's lap, his hand gently gripping her skirts and nuzzling against her legs like a small kitten. His body curled up into fetal position as he allowed his thoughts to roam, thinking only of Zoe. He couldn't believe that he had been so lucky as to find a girl like her, not only was she an incredibly potent witch but she was now on the council too. She was loyal, kind and patient, something he had never known before. Her gentle fingers caressing his hair so tenderly, so full of love, nobody had ever touched him like this, making him feel so safe and loved. He felt the wounds of his past slowly healing, the pain within his soul began to rest, his demons could no longer hurt him. How safe he felt with her, it was a different kind of magic.
Zoe smiled, laughing softly under her breath "You're like a cat" she teased, the way he eased into her touch, begged for it. The way he showed such vulnerability, opening up to her and letting her in. Even when he lost his memory he still clung to her, begging for her touch. The way he kissed her so sweetly, the way he rested his forehead against hers. She had over time realised how lonely Kyle was, how touch starved he was. Though friendly with the other girls in the coven, including the new students, Kyle was possessive and attached to Zoe. Shadowing her wherever he went, the new butler and taking care of the girls.
Kyle shifted, he'd come to terms with his trauma and he was even seeing therapy, but it was a lengthy process and he still had trauma. After a while he became used to Misty day and she was very empathetic after she realised his abusive past. Zoe had always supported him and always had his best interests at heart "I don't like people touching me, nobody but you" he insisted. His mother had abused him for most of his life, which he repressed and tried to forget about, hiding his pain under a charming smile and aloofness. The minute he died, the minute he was able to get away from her, he felt so free, now that she was gone, she could never hurt him again. Madison had used him for sex, the emptiness she felt within herself after being ripped from death ate away at her. The depression, trauma and internalised resentment she felt ate away at her, taking it out on everyone else. Using Kyle to appease her own burdens, using him for sex in order to feel something, but became resentful and bitter once she realised Kyle only had eyes for Zoe and wouldn't ever return her feelings. He had been wronged by so many people in his life, so many people never considered his feelings, that he was human. Abusing his trust and making him suffer, becoming more and more vulnerable. But with Zoe, he felt strong, he felt like he belonged, that he had a second chance. Zoe had always loved him, so purely, innocently and genuinely, her first serious boyfriend since she had lost Charlie upon her powers awakening. The loss of her innocence and teenage daydreams upon her powers activating, she was able to regain with him. Her regret at his death and guilt of resurrecting him, worried she had robbed him of a future he would never have. That by meeting him at that party she had cursed him, that maybe if she ignored him or she never went, he would have been able to get into college. But they made the best of what they had, their relationship changing for the better, she could be open with him. He would live longer than average compared to most humans, but he would still perish someday, they could have a long and happy life. She respected his boundaries, loved him endlessly and enjoyed spending time with him, sneaking away together to enjoy one another's company. Sometimes when she was working on spells or lessons, he would sit nearby and keep her company. Others he would make her snacks and assure she took care of her wellbeing.
Zoe softened, sending the pain in his voice, a jolt of sadness filling her, she hated that he had suffered so much pain and she couldn't make it go away. That he had become so touch starved and yet avoidant to human contact. Their lives had changed immensely, she was no longer a student she was an authority figure that was supposed to guide and teach new witches. Madison had honed in on Kyle, immediately objectifying him for her own needs, intervening in their relationship when she knew Zoe loved him, asking that they share him and become a poly couple. Kyle of course only wanted Zoe and yet let Madison use him despite the fact he hated it, now that she was gone, they could be together. Madison using him as an object given her own assault that night at the party was hypocritical of her and cruel, she had taken advantage of him the same way she had been. She didn't respect his feelings or acknowledge him as a person. Knowing now that his mother had groomed him, how Madison had done the same thing, two women in his life had taken advantage of him. Understanding now why he was attached to her, why he fell in love with her, she was the only woman to be kind to him, the only person he had ever felt safe with. She never wanted Kyle to feel like that again, so isolated, so ignored and so lonely. Cordelia had accepted him within the coven and hadn't questioned how Madison had died, many didn't even notice. There was fresh blood in the coven and a future ahead of them. Zoe tugged on his hair softly "It's getting long" she hummed, he really needed a trim.
"What you don't think I can rock a man-bun? Aren't those trendy now?" he teased, a haircut had been the last thing he thought about. He'd been pressed with so many other responsibilities he hadn't had time to think about it. Cordelia allowed him to share a room with Zoe instead of his own quarters, he tended to the house and chores, acting as a butler to the witches. He learned new things and was happy to take errands. But he was treated with respect and he was protected.
Zoe scoffed, the mischievous and cheeky soul she had developed a crush on was back, how she had missed it "I like it shaggy, I just prefer seeing your face" Zoe hummed. His eyes were so intensely brown, they made her feel safe. She wasn't scared of the lingering scars that remained from being stitched back together. They were proof he was alive. Though before Fiona's passing, she was grateful the past Supreme was kind enough to fix him.
"So... no man bun?" Kyle asked, Zoe snorted and just lightly tugged his hair again.
