Harry Potter and the Vampires Kiss
Chapter 1
Harry awoke in a cold sweat, managing not to shout this time. Uncle Vernon had not been happy to be woken up the last time. His nightmare was the same as always since the end of the tournament. Grabbing the handle of the cup with Cedric, the hard landing in the graveyard, and the bright green light that had ended Cedric's life.
He always woke at the same point in his dream, as if he didn't care for anything that happened after. He was to blame, he knew that. It was his suggestion that they share in the finish, explaining that either way it was a Hogwarts victory. Hermione would tell him he was being rediculous in blaming himself. She would say he couldn't have known the cup was a portkey and did not fire the killing curse. But Harry knew different. It was his respnsibility.
Knowing he wouldn't get any more sleep that night he decided to sneak out for some fresh air. He made his way downstairs, making sure to miss the creaking stair, and made his way outside. The cool breeze felt good as he walked. He detected a faint smell of alcahol and knew that it was Mundungus Fletcher's turn to keep tabs on him. He also knew he was probably passed out, drunk again.
Harry made his way to the park. This late he didn't expect to find anyone there, and was surprised to find a girl about his age sitting on the swings. He started to turn away when spoke "Hello there."Um, Hello" Harry replied. "I don't mean to be rude, but, shouldn't you be at home in bed? It's not really safe to be out this late." She looked at him and said, "I could say the same to you. You're just as "out" as I am. Besides I can take care of myself." He laughed a little at that.
"I'm Harry, by the way, Harry Potter." he said. "I know," she said, "everyone knows who you are." Harry's hand went to his pocket where his wand was, and narrowed his eyes. She saw this in the dim light that there was, and said, "Oh relax, I'm not going to hurt you. I don't even have a wand." Harry was still on guard though. "My name is Mavis." "Wait, what? You know about magic?" Harry asked stunned. "Of course." she said
"Can't sleep, then?" Harry asked. She giggled and said "No, nothing like that, I just can't be out in the day." "You have an allergy to sunlight then?" He racked his brain for the term, but just couldn't come up with it. "Something like that," she replied. "So, you're home schooled then?" "Pretty much, have to sneak out to get some time to myself, and late at night is the only time I can get away."
"I know what you mean." he said. "I don't get much privacy." "Dumbledore?" "Yeah, likes to keep tabs on me. Says I have to remain with my relatives for my safety. Hah!" Harry said the last like it was a bad taste in his mouth. "Why not ask the goblins to help you get out? I'm sure with you being Harry Potter they could do something." "I don't know, I've never seen them be friendly or even cordial to anyone, always surly little gits" Harry replied. "Just treat them with respect. You'd be surprised what a little respect can do, and it wouldn't hurt to learn a little of their language." she said.
"I'll think about it. Well, I better get back before my Uncle wakes up and finds the door unlocked. Probably never get back in." he said. "Or be grounded to my room, indefinately." She laughed, not knowing he was serious. "It was nice meeting you, Mavis, maybe we'll see each other again sometime." "Maybe," she said, "Goodnight Harry" "Goodnight Mavis."
As Harry was walking back to number 4 he realized that he never found out her last name, 'oh well, I probably won't see her anymore, especially with her allergy, Uncle Vernon and my "minders" always watching me. Or I'll just have to hope Mundungus is on "guard" duty.
