Prologue
LOCATION: Fort Bragg, North Carolina, United States, January 2022
LTC. Scott Mitchell (Griffin) was shuffling through some paperwork after one of his Ghost Teams had come back from a mission in Nigeria hunting down a Boko Haram terrorist cell. Mitchell had always hated the paperwork but it was a part of the job, though he still wished he could be a door kicker again. He looked over two documents from Congress about future military hardware for the Army, of course, the Ghosts would be the first to test the new equipment. The two contracts approved were the new GYPS Helicopter which will replace the aging Blackhawk and a new MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) codenamed Hunter. The Gyps will be built by Lomax-Fairrow Industries while the Hunter will be built by the Rozkos Company. He wished he was out in the field using these new toys but then again he had tested out his fair share of new equipment. He was the first Ghost to use Cross-Com during the Waziristan rescue mission in 2009. Mitchell just didn't like the politics or dealing with the pencil-pushers who weren't actually in the military. While working on the paperwork he would send to JSOC (Joint Special Operations Command), he decided to look through the files of potential operators that would make a good fit with the Ghosts.
AFO Team Delta known as Spear recently lost their designated marksmen due to an injury. Thus the team needed a new member if they were going to continue operating. Pulling out the files of personnel that had caught the attention of Mitchell himself, looking over them he had to credit Lt. Kirk Graham (Wizard) the Ghosts Intelligence Officer for getting detailed personal file information on these specific operators.
As he was sifting through the files, only four of them caught his attention. The names on the files read Petty Officer 2nd Class Thomas A. Merrick, a member of Seal Team 2, Sergeant Keegan P. Russ, a member of the United States Marine Force Recon, Master Chief Petty Officer Mike Harper, a member of DEVGRU's Blue Squadron. While looking at these files, Mitchell frowned as these weren't the operators the Ghosts needed at the moment. But maybe in the future, they could become Ghosts. Plus he didn't want to ruin the flow of their respective teams. The last file he looked at piqued his interest greatly. The file read Petty Officer First Class Clay Spenser, a member of DEVGRU's Red Squadron, specifically Bravo Team. Reading his file, Mitchell was quite impressed with this young man and saw a little bit of himself in him. He was what the Ghosts were looking for. After reading the file, he called Lt. Graham in his office and asked him to set up a meeting with both Capitan Greyson Lindell and Lt. Wes Soto, the commanding officer of Bravo felt a little nostalgic when he looked at Clay's file, he has the attitude of a seasoned warrior who can make split-second decisions.
After he finished talking with Lt. Graham about getting Clay into Ghost Recon. He decided to look at recent intelligence reports as well as what the state of the world is like at this very moment. Interesting developments have been occurring in Africa, the Middle East, China, Europe and the world in general. In Africa it looks like Ethiopia had created the Nile River Coalition, an alliance that included Kenya, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. He remembered fighting against rogue Ethiopian Army Colonel Tesfaye Wolde during Operation Desert Siege in 2009.
In the Middle East ISIS is still a major threat, Afghanistan has fallen to the Taliban again, and a new group formerly known as Al-Qatala now Al-Qatala-Aljahdid is causing problems. The main concerns are ISIS and Al-Qatala-Aljahdid. AQ is different from terrorists in the region due to not being founded on religious ideals. They are purely focused on anarchist-like actions. The former leader of AQ known as The Wolf was killed during a raid by a United States Marine Corps Special Operations group known as the Demon Dogs in 2019. Now AQ has a new leader, Khaled Al-Asad, who has turned AQ into a proper fighting force with armored vehicles and modern weaponry that happen to be Russian in origin.
China under their President is undergoing a massive military arms expansion and has proposed the building of an alliance known as Strategic Defense Coalition. The new NATO of the east according to General Tian Zhao of the People's Liberation Army. It remains to be seen whether this project is successful.
Europe had the most interesting developments in the past couple years. For starters the European Union was disbanded and the European Federation was born in 2018. The evolution of the EU came at a time when the political climate of the world was in crisis and Europe sought to consolidate its power. Thus the EF was born and a new European Military was formed with the backbone of it being the new Enforcer Corps. The EC is an elite combined arms quick reaction force led by General Amadou de Bankole the former commander of the Brigade des Forces Spéciales Terre or French Army Special Forces Command. President Nathalie Pérreau said that the creation of EC was the first step in maintaining European Security while also making NATO more secure.
The concerning part of Europe is the Russian Army buildup on the Ukrainian border. They've been doing it for the past couple months. He just hoped Putin wasn't crazy enough to start a massive war in the region. Intelligence sources had also picked up chatter of a special Russian Spetsnaz unit being formed though getting accurate intel from Moscow was slim to none.
He finally looked over the rest of the reports concerning Private Military Companies. Ever since the 2012 Reykjavik Accords made them into operational international armies is intended to decrease regional and international conflicts, better protect civilian populations and human rights, and intensify the international war on terror. They are now fully authorized to purchase any conventional equipment on the international armaments market. Out of the many PMC's that caught Mitchell were Adrian DeWinter's Artemis Global Security, Trey Stone's Sentinel Corporation Security Services, Phillip Grave's Shadow Company, a group frequently used by both the CIA and JSOC. The final two groups were Russian in origin. The first being Watchgate and the other being Konni. Not much is known of these groups, but there probably up to no good as usual.
Author's Note: Hello all, this is my first fanfiction. I love Ghost Recon and the T.V Show Seal Team and was inspired to write this. This story is set after Operation Kingslayer (2019) and before Operation Greenstone (2025). There will be familiar characters from the Tom Clancy Gameverse such as nods to Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, HAWX and the Division 1/2. There are also references to Call of Duty as well.
