Rose took a deep breath before she opened the door, resting her hand on the cool metal. Now that it was actually happening, she wasn't sure that her plan was a good one. There were so many things that could go wrong, but it was too late to back out now.
The vampire opened the door, carefully keeping out of the light of the sun, and immediately locked eyes with a cold, blue gaze. Rose swallowed hard as she looked into the eyes of Thyra. The corner of her lips twisted up into a smirk as she stepped past the younger vampire, blonde hair swaying as she moved. Released from the icy gaze, Rose looked out to see the woman's companion. Brown hair glistened in the sun, warming up the brown eyes of Elijah.
He gave her a nod before walking inside, following the steps of his sister. Neither of the Original vampires were pleased with the state of the building. But they had been alive long enough, and had stayed in worse, to complain. Instead, their focus was on Rose.
It was even worse than she thought it would be. Rose knew that facing the siblings would be hard, but she did not think that it would be this bad. While the blue eyes of Thyra shone with sick amusement, as though she could taste the fear running through her body, Elijah's eyes were cold. He had taken the betrayal worse, as he was the one who had sworn to Klaus that he would keep the doppelganger safe. And he had failed, because of her and Trevor.
The rich timber of the Original brother's voice broke through her frantic thoughts, "Rose-Marie. Is there somewhere that we can talk?"
She barely hide a flinch at the sound of her name, unused to such formality, before gesturing to a small room off of the main hall. Elijah inclined his head, before gesturing for his sister to move first. Thyra nodded, her blonde hair brushing against her shoulders as she spun around, walking into the desired room. The only noise was the clicking of her heels, echoing around the large chamber.
Once the two Originals had settled themselves onto the dusty sofa in the room, Rose carefully perched down on the chair in front of them, clearing her throat before confidently stating, "I want my freedom. I'm tired of running. Are either of you in a position to grant me that?"
"We have complete authority to grant pardon to you and your little pet," Elijah replied, his lip curling into a sneer as he mentioned Rose's companion. "What is his name these days?"
"I believe he goes by Trevor," Thyra spoke, a musical lilt to her voice, revealing her amusement. "But you have to make it worth our while, Rose-Marie."
Rose had to look away from those blue eyes, the coldness hidden behind the amusement was too much to look at, instead, she focused on the other Original, "Katerina Petrova."
If he wasn't sitting right next to her, Elijah wouldn't have noticed the way that Thyra's body tensed ever so slightly at the mention of the doppelganger. It wasn't well known that the blonde had bonded the most with Katerina. Not even Niklaus knew that secret. No, Elijah had taken it upon himself to hide that information and had pretended to be the one that cared for her instead. To keep the attention from sister, Elijah motioned with his hand, "We're listening."
"She didn't burn in the church in 1864," Rose continued, clenching her fists in her lap. She knew that this was her only chance, Trevor's only chance. If this went wrong, then there would be no escape. Thyra would catch her before she could even leap to her feet. Her viciousness was a well-known secret, even if she hid it behind cold eyes and a sharp smile.
When she paused, her nervousness taking hold for just a moment, Thyra smiled, showing more teeth than necessary, "Continue, Rose-Marie."
"She survived," the younger vampire did as prompted, letting out those words in one breath. She would have been hopeful, but the lack of surprise on the faces in front of her killed that hope.
"Where is she?" the Original Brother asked, folding his hands in his lap, carefully knocking his knee against his sister's. A part of him hoped that Katerina was not here, because he knew that it would open some old wounds for his sister. Her rampage after Katerina's betrayal was painful to watch, and almost rivalled one of Niklaus' worst tantrums. It was only the soothing words of Rebekah that saved the lives of many innocents that night.
"You don't seem surprised by this," Rose sighed, shaking her head. It was a miracle that she managed to keep the disappointment from her voice.
"Oh, when you called and invited us into this armpit of civilizations, which is a mere there hours from the town that we know as Mystic Falls, I surmised that it had everything to with Katerina," Elijah shrugged casually, the movement smooth, barely creasing his suit. "Do you have her in your possession?"
The younger vampire immediately shook her head, "No, but I have better. I have her doppelganger."
The moment that the words left Rose's mouth; it was obvious that Thyra froze. Oh, not obvious to Rose. But to her brother? Elijah knew what those words meant. Which was why he frowned slightly, leaning forward, "That's impossible, her family line ended with her. I know that for a fact."
"The facts are wrong," Rose countered, standing up. She brushed down her jeans, removing the dust that clung onto the denim. Neither her nor Trevor had bothered much with cleaning the place, since they weren't planning on staying here for long. But a part of Rose, the tiny human part, longed to have put some care into cleaning it.
"Show us," Thyra stood up too, not even bothering to clean her black jeans. She didn't care about appearances, not in that moment. The news that there could be a human doppelganger was monumental. One, because the curse that plagued her and her twin could be broken, and two, because there was yet another doppelganger doomed to break her heart. Thyra knew that she couldn't find happiness while the faces of her lost love existed in the world. But maybe this one would be different.
Rose hesitated, glancing between the siblings before focusing her gaze on Elijah, knowing that he was the more reasonable one. She knew that she was playing a dangerous game, but Rose had to hear the words. She had to know that she wasn't walking to her death, "Elijah, you are a man of honour, you should be trusted but I want to hear you say it again."
Elijah exchanged an amused glance with his sister before nodding, "You have my word that I will pardon you."
When Rose glanced over at Thyra, the blonde Original shrugged, "I do not care either way, Rose-Marie. Just don't push your luck."
While the younger vampire wasn't completely satisfied with the answers that she received, she knew that she couldn't put this off any longer. So she gestured towards the hallway to the side of the door, "Follow me."
The Original's did as requested, and followed the younger vampire through the house. Rose could hear them murmuring behind her, speaking in a language that she didn't recognise. She thought that they were discussing how they would kill her once they had taken the doppelganger. But in reality, Elijah was checking in on his sister, making sure that she was okay. Thyra had a lot of history with the Petrova doppelgangers and not all of it was pleasant.

Elena had her back to the door when she heard footsteps. The girl took a deep breath, her eyes closing as she prayed for someone to come save her. She didn't want to die, especially not as a sacrifice in some silly little ritual. No, Elena wanted to live. And the fact that she was so powerless in making that happen terrified her.
When the footsteps paused, Elena turned around, her heart beating loudly in her chest. She froze where she stood at the sight of the two vampires on the balcony. The male stared at her in cautious surprise, his brown eyes narrowing slightly before he sped over to her. Elena let out a gasp as he suddenly appeared right in front of her, leaning in, nose pressing against her neck. She heard him take a deep before leaning back, murmuring, "Human. It's impossible."
Elijah had a smile on his face as he gazed down at the girl, "Hello there."
A muttered curse drew Elena's attention to the other new comer. The blonde woman was gripping the banister, the wood creaking beneath her grip, staring at her intently. Elena couldn't quite place the emotions swirling in those blue depths, but she could see a flash of longing. It was an emotion that confused Elena and, for the moment, she pushed it to the back of her mind.
Thyra knew that the doppelganger, whose face was identical to her first love, was looking at her. Straight hair framed a kind face and there was a warmth in her eyes that Katerina never had. There was a softness to her skin that was missing from Tatia's. Despite her resemblance to them, Thyra knew that this girl wasn't like either of her doppelgangers. And Thyra swore to herself that she wouldn't fall for this one. That she wouldn't love this one. Because if Niklaus got his way, then she would lose yet another girl that she loved.
"We have a long journey ahead of us," Elijah mused, drawing Thyra from her thoughts. She glanced at her brother, meeting his gaze. "We should be going."
Elena looked past him, staring at Rose with a desperate look, "Please, don't let them take me."
"Elijah," Thyra muttered in Old Norse, looking at Trevor. "We are not yet done."
Her brother jerked his head in a nod, following her gaze before looking back at the doppelganger, "One last piece of business and we're done. Take a seat, my dear, we won't be long."
Trevor froze as he suddenly became the centre of attention. Everyone in the room was looking at him and he felt a cold shiver run down his spin. With a stutter, he forced himself to say, "I've waited so long for this day. Elijah, Thyra, I'm truly, very sorry."
"Oh no, your apologies are not necessary," the older Original shook his head, while Thyra walked down the stairs towards them. With each click of her heels, Trevor winced. He couldn't even bring himself to look at her. He was the reason that Katerina had escaped, ruining the sacrifice. And if you knew one thing about Thyra, it was that she always got even.
"Yes, yes it is," Trevor was definitely panicking now and he couldn't even hide it. "You trusted me with Katerina and I failed you."
As Thyra walked behind Trevor, running her finger across his shoulders, Elijah nodded, "Oh yes, you are the guilty one. Rose aided you because she was loyal to you and that we honor. Where was your loyalty?"
"I beg your forgiveness," the younger vampire whispered, lowering his head. He always suspected that he wouldn't survive this. Oh, he knew that Rose would be fine, the Original Family respected loyalty. And she was nothing but loyal. He had betrayed that loyalty when he helped Katerina escape.
"So granted," Elijah's lips twitched up into a smirk before nodding at his sister. Trevor barely had time to smile before a fist punched through his back. The vampire let out grunt as Thyra's fist wrapped around his heart. In his dying moments, he looked up at Rose, a heartbroken expression on his face.
Rose let out a snarl as Trevor's body turned grey, falling to the floor quickly followed by his heart. She stepped forward, her expression a combination of grief, heartbreak and fury. But Elijah held up his head while Thyra carelessly wiped her hand on her black jeans, "Don't, Rose, not now that you are free." Content that the younger vampire wasn't going to be a bother, Elijah returned his gaze to Elena. The doppelganger had collapsed onto the sofa, a shocked expression on her face as she stared at Trevor's body. "Come."
Elena shot to her feet, mind desperately searching for a way to get out of this situation. But she couldn't think of something that would be guaranteed to work. So, in a desperate hope, she blurted out, "No, what about the moonstone?"
Elijah's gaze flickered over to his sister, meeting her gaze. Brown stared in blue, before the younger Original shrugged her shoulders, blonde hair swishing. Content to play along, Elijah turned to face Elena again, "What do you know about the moonstone?"
Heart racing in her chest, the girl breathed out, her hands shaking as she clenched her fists, "I know that you need it and I know where it is."
"Do you now?" Thyra smirked, walking closer to the doppelganger. Elena's gaze flickered over to her, noticing the way the light softened her blue eyes, her full lips. Despite the situation, Elena couldn't help but want to know more about the mysterious woman.
Elena's head jerked in a nod, "I can help you get it."
"Tell us where it is," Elijah commanded as Thyra joined his side. Elena looked between both of the Originals, feeling a lot braver than before. But she knew that she couldn't get too cocky, she was still a human girl, confronting two of the most powerful vampires that she had ever seen.
"It doesn't work that way," the girl shook her head, urging herself to stay calm.
Elijah exchanged an amused glance with his sister, "Are you negotiating with me?"
Curious, Thyra glanced over at Rose, wondering how much the younger vampire knew about this. The grieving woman shook her head, forcing her gaze away from Trevor's body, "It's the first that I've heard of it."
Content that the girl was trying to play them, Elijah tried to compel her. But it didn't work. He glanced down, seeing a familiar necklace around the girl's neck. It was one that once belonged to Rebekah. He was curious as to how the doppelganger had managed to get her hands on it, but that was a thought for another time. He was about to rip it from her neck when Thyra stepped forward.
The first thought that Elena had was that her hands were soft. She held her breath as the Original Sister slowly undid the clasp of her necklace, keeping eye contact with the doppelganger. As one hand placed the necklace in the pocket of her leather jacket, the other reached up to grip her chin.
"Now," Thyra's voice was soft as she compelled the girl. "Tell me, where is the moonstone?"
Elena's voice was monotonous as she answered, despite the voice screaming in her head not to, "In the tomb, underneath the church ruins."
"That's a curious place for it," the blonde mused, thumb gently stroking Elena's jawbone. "What is it doing there?"
"It's with Katherine."
"Ah, it always comes back to Katerina," Thyra sighed, shaking her head, releasing Elena from her compulsion. She shifted her grip to the girl's shoulders before the sound of breaking glass echoed around the room.
Thyra glanced towards the door as her brother asked of Rose, "What is that?"
"I don't know," the woman shook her head, wiping away her tears. She looked a lot more put together, ready to face a world without her best friend.
"Who else is here, Rose-Marie?" the female Original asked, pulling the doppelganger closer to her.
"I don't know," Rose repeated as the other occupants of the room approached her. Elijah was in the lead, while Thyra kept a firm grip on Elena's arm. Their entire plan rested on keeping the doppelganger with them and Thyra wasn't going to take any risks. And, despite herself, she wanted to protect the innocent girl. She wanted to preserve that softness.
The group walked through the house, not encountering anyone until they reached the foyer. When they got there, a vampire sped past them. Barely a second passed before another sped past. The Salvatore Brothers had arrived, desperate to save Elena. With a roll of her eyes, Thyra passed over guardianship of the doppelganger to Rose. The younger vampire drew the girl close to her, knowing what the consequences would be if she lost her.
"Rose," Elijah ground out, annoyed that this wasn't going as smoothly as it should have been. What should have been a simple exchange was anything but. And the disrespect irked the older Original.
"I don't know who it is," Rose replied, wondering if she would actually die at the end of this. All because of two vampires that she had never met before. It would be typical, for freedom to be so close only to be cruelly snatched away.
"Up here," Stefan taunted them from the top of the stairs. Elijah exchanged a glance with Thyra before speeding up the stairs. Only to see that no one was there. The brothers were playing games and Elijah was not amused.
"Down here," Damon smirked, voice echoing up from the lower floors. Thyra sped down to where the voice came from and wasn't surprised to see that no one was there. She was curious as to who would be risking her wrath for the doppelganger. She knew the allure; she had felt it herself. But not everyone was willing to give up their lives for a human girl.
Thyra returned to the foyer only to see her brother walking down the stairs. He was pulling a small wooden stake from his hand, dropping it to the floor with disdain. The blonde raised an eyebrow, it wasn't often that Elijah got hurt. And if it did happen, it was normally at the hands of her twin.
"Excuse me," Elijah's voice echoed around the room as he picked up an abandoned coat rack. Thyra rested against the banister as he began breaking off the hooks, carelessly dropping the metal to the floor. "To whom it may concern, you're making a great mistake if you think that you can beat us. You can't." He broke the rack in two, passing his sister the other half of the makeshift stake. "Do you hear that? I repeated, you cannot beat us." Both siblings looked around the room before the brother added, "So, we want the girl. I'm going to count to three or heads will roll. Do we understand each other?"
Movement behind them had the Originals turning around. Elena was standing at the top of the stairs, her arms crossed. While her brother sped up to speak to her, Thyra remained at the bottom. And that was the only reason why she saw the sun glint off the glass of what looked like a vervain grenade. The blonde was impressed by her bravery, even if she wasn't impressed by the kink in her plan.
"I'll come with you," Elena glanced between the two, her voice surprisingly strong. "Just please don't hurt my friends. They just wanted to help me out."
"What game are you playing with me?" Elijah asked, halfway up the stairs. His eyes were narrowed as he considered just knocking the girl out and speeding from the building. It was only the quick movements of his sister that saved him from a face full of vervain.
Thyra sped up the stairs, neatly plucking the vervain grenade from Elena's hands as she prepared to throw it. With a flick of her wrist, Thyra smashed the grenade into Stefan's face, ignoring the burning pain in her hand from the vervain. The younger let out a shout of pain, collapsing to his knees. Elena let out a cry as Elijah sped forward, snapping his neck.
With an enraged shout, Damon sped up the stairs, furious that his brother had just been taken out. He got in a lucky shot, shoving the stake through Elijah's back. The older Original's body started to turn grey, dropping to the floor. But before he could grab Elena and speed her away to safety, Thyra was on him. She gave him a wink before, with a flick of her wrists, she snapped his neck too. As his body joined the others on the floor, she heard Rose speed away. Thyra knew that the younger vampire couldn't leave the building, not while the sun was out. But she didn't care. She knew that Rose wouldn't come anywhere near her.
Which was why she felt safe when she turned to face Elena, an eyebrow raised as she said, "I think that it's about time that you and I have a little chat."
