(Author's Note: Hello my readers. This is TigerVolcano5000, up and ready with a brand new story. Featuring "Encanto", which has quickly become one of my FAVORITE movies and fictional universes of ALL time (ironically though, I've only seen the movie once as of the writing of this/). The main inspirations for this story are as followed…

1."Mirabel oneshots" by bobalover21

2."(Mirabel) Madrigal's One-Shots" by I_may_be_trash

3."Random Encanto Snippets" by HalinorFire

All of these are stories that you can find on Archive Of Our Own (check them out, I think they're really good). This story of mine will be similar to those, a collection of one-shots and short stories based around the "Encanto" movie.

This is something…short-ish that I'm going to write while I prepare for longer, plot-focused stories later on down the line (although, this story will still be going by the time those stories start). It's something that I've been pretty excited to write, so I'm hoping that you guys enjoy it.

This story will be a collection of one-shots and short stories, based around both canon and AUs. If you have any ideas for this story, feel free to let me know. Now, I'm not promising that I'll do every idea that's given (especially since I don't intend for this story to be over a hundred chapters long) but I will definitely look into them.

Now, here are some important things you need to keep in mind for this story. These are the "ground rules" (so to speak)...

Things that I will NOT do

1.Rape: this one is self-explanatory and I will not go into detail.

2.Character Bashing: I HATE it when people bash characters in their fanfics. For better or for worse, I'm a VERY creative person and (to me) character bashing shows a COMPLETE lack of imagination. When you bash a character, you're (basically) saying to your readers "I'm too lazy to write this character out in a way that could be believable, so I'm just going to exaggerate one or two of their negative traits so they can fit a very specific role in my story". This is especially true if you bash a character that you know for a FACT doesn't behave in the manner that you write. I'm not trying to disrespect anybody…but this is how I feel about character bashing and why I will not do it.

Things that I MIGHT do

1.Lemons: I'm uncertain about whether I will do this or not. There are one or two specific ideas I have that may include lemons, but I'm not 100% certain yet.

2.Incest: the "Encanto" fandom does have it a bit rough in that there just aren't many characters that aren't related, so there's not as many pairings that can be done as in other fandoms (outside of OCs and crossovers). Most incest pairings in fanfiction are typically just lemons for the sake of lemons and (usually) aren't anything extraordinary. I have, however, read a lot of stories in this fandom that included incest and were actually VERY well done (from entertaining reads to emotional works). I'm admittedly a tad curious of trying it out, but I'm uncertain if I will. Feel free to suggest an idea that involves incest if you want to, but know that you'll need a good story for me to give it real consideration.

That's about all there is for now. I hope you guys enjoy:)

Chapter One: A New Gift

Concept: In the main timeline, Mirabel didn't receive a Gift from the Madrigal Miracle. In this one, however…things go more along the path that everyone would've expected (and, in some cases, hoped).

Mirabel flinched when she felt the bright lights above shone of her face. When her eyes adjusted after a few moments, she saw dozens upon dozens of the Encanto's citizens watching her with bright smiles on their faces.

She knew that they weren't trying to make her nervous…but they were totally making her nervous.

Feeling Casita's tiles gently nudge her forward, Mirabel took in a deep breath and began walking towards the stairs. She kept her gaze above at her destination, knowing without question that if she looked at her audience she'd freeze.

Standing to the right of her new door were her mama and papa, both of them looking at her with some of the most loving smiles she's received. Standing to the left was her Abuela, the candle in her hands and a smile on her face that was filled with so much pride that it nearly chased away all of Mirabel's fear and hesitation.

Once she reached the top of the staircase, Mirabel moved to placed her hands on the candle. After promising that she would use her Gift to serve the village, Mirabel turned to face the glowing golden door in front of her (that still looked almost like a ghost). Mirabel gulped and wiped her sweaty hands on her dress.

Taking in (and letting out) a deep breath, Mirabel reached forward and placed both of her hands on the door...and was nearly blinded by the golden flash of light that followed.

When Mirabel turned back to her door, she was just able to catch the final moments of formation of its image.

She was looking at an older version of her that had her eyes closed, a warm smile on her face, and her hands clasped in front of her like she was praying. There were four circles that surrounded her image (two on the sides of her head and two on the sides of her torso), each one showing a different emotion. The top left showed a bright smile, the top right showed a sad frown, the bottom left showed an angry glare, and the bottom right showed a fearful expression.

Mirabel's eyes suddenly started itching and she rubbed them underneath her glasses.

"Mirabel? Do you feel anything?" Mirabel turned to answer her Abuela…but stopped, a confused frown appearing on her face as she tilted her head. "Mi nieta, what's wrong?"

"Abuela, why are you glowing?" Said woman took a step back in shock.

"I'm…not. What do you see, Mirabel?" But her Abuela was glowing, Mirabel could see it. She had this green aura around her body, with small glimpses of orange spread along the edges.

And, for some reason that she couldn't really explain, Mirabel understood those colors.

"Green and orange. You're happy, but also nervous," slowly, an excited smile began to grow on Mirabel's face as she started jumping a bit in place, "I…I think I can see your emotions, Abuela!"

The old woman's smile grew and Mirabel watched as the wisps of orange around her form disappeared. Alma turned towards the crowd, holding the candle above her head, "A new blessing to the Madrigal Miracle!"

Mirabel watched as her vision was nearly consumed by green as the crowd began to cheer, but she focused in to look at her family.

Her Tia Pepa had her hands clasped in front of her chest and had happy tears in her eyes (a cloud of rain forming above her head), while her Tio Felix had a wide smile on his face as he tried to comfort his wife. Her prima Dolores had her hands covering her ears (her super hearing no doubt making this scenario very…difficult), but still had a smile on her face. Her primo (and twin) Camilo was the most excited out of his side of the family, hollering with all his might as he jumped in the air and shape-shifting into numerous people each time he did.

Her Tio Bruno was leaning against a wall with crossed arms. Despite normally being a very timid person who can have difficulty expressing his emotions, he had a smile nearly as bright as Camilo's (and the green aura around him was brighter than almost anyone else's).

Her older hermanas stood near the stairs. Isabela was beaming with pride and joy at her youngest hermanita, trying (and failing) to keep her tears to a minimum. Luisa, on the other hand, cried without shame as her heart was practically bursting in joy.

Mirabel's thoughts were interrupted as she was suddenly lifted into the air and felt someone pepper her face in kisses. And she knew who it was since the hair on the upper lip tickled, "PAPA!" Her father (thankfully) stopped, but Mirabel quickly found her cheeks grabbed by her mother who pressed her own kisses onto her daughter's face, "MAMA!"

"As much as I hate to interrupt," Alma chuckled, "Our mariposa still has a door to open." Agustin and Julieta (albeit a tad reluctantly) set their youngest down and stepped out of her way so that nothing stood in-between Mirabel and her door.

With her whole body practically vibrating in excitement, Mirabel reached for the doorknob and turned it…releasing the atmosphere of the room to the rest of Casita and her inhabitants.

The entire room was a bright golden color, from the walls to the floor to the bed. There was a large bed in the middle of the room, one that looked more than enough to fit all of the Madrigal grandchildren (perfect for the sleepover that Mirabel and Camilo convinced their hermanas to participate in once the former got her Gift). There was a desk to the left of the bed and a dresser to the right. Every wall there was littered with empty picture frames, perfect for holding the joyous memories that would be made for years to come.

It wasn't as "showy" as other rooms. Compared to Luisa's boulders and running track or Camilo's large stage and dozens of mirrors. To some, it might seem "less than".

To Mirabel? It was perfect.

As the (new) five year old took a step into her new room, something happened. When her foot made contact with the floor, a bright green light shone. Mirabel flinched as green lines of magic spread across the room…and changed it.

Beyond the gold color turning green, two solid columns suddenly rose up from the ground on the sides of her bed. A large mirror (nearly twice as long as the bed) appeared behind the bed, resulting in a bright and beautiful light shining throughout the room. Finally, dozens upon dozens of glowing green butterflies made their presence known across the walls (underneath and on-top of the empty picture frames).

"What happened?" Mirabel flinched at Camilo's voice being right near her ear, the rest of her family having quickly joined them up the stairs.

"Mirabel, you said that you saw happiness as green?" At her granddaughter's nod, Alma nodded, "It would seem that Mirabel's room changes based on her emotions," she then smiled as she knelt down besides Mirabel, "And it comes as no surprise as to why her room became green," she then pressed a kiss against her granddaughter's cheek, causing her to giggle. Alma then turned around to address the guests, "Well? This is meant to be a celebration, is it not? So, let's celebrate!" The Encanto's citizens cheered and began walking into the room, to begin what was (hands down) the greatest night of Mirabel's life.

(Author's Note: Annnnnnnnd scene! Hope this was a good first chapter to the story. Something I'd like to say is that this story will NOT be a "What-If" style of story. Even though this chapter could count as such, that isn't what this is. It'll encompass all kinds of ideas and AUs that go beyond simple "What-Ifs". Just wanted to make sure that there was no confusion.

I understand that the whole point of the movie was that the Madrigals were more than their magic, and that Mirabel didn't need a Gift to be special…but, of course I'd like to write about what could have happened if her Ceremony was successful. It's for the same reason as to why there's so many fanfictions about how the "My Hero Academia" story would change if Izuku Midoriya was born with a Quirk. It's not because either character NEEDS their own personal powers, but it's fun to wonder about how the stories would change if they DID possess their own unique abilities.

I wholeheartedly believe that if Mirabel DID get a Gift, it'd be some form of empathic power. In this universe, Mirabel is able to see the emotions of others. And, like her relatives, her Gift has the potential to grow given enough time and practice. Here is how I interpret a few of the emotions that Mirabel can see and their respective colors…

-Green: Joy

-Blue: Sadness

-Red: Anger

-Yellow/Orange: Fear/Nervousness

-Pink/Purple: Love/Lust

Hope this was a good one to get things started. At some point, I'll probably continue this AU at some point, but we'll be going into something different next time. I have plenty of ideas to choose from, but please don't hesitate to share any ideas you have with me (as long as you remember the "ground rules" in the beginning author's note.

Review, Favorite, Follow, and I'll see you guys next time:)
