Fins and the Legman: Heroes of the Tokyo Olympics
Chapter One
"Ugh!" Stan groaned in disappointment as Sethward appeared on stage. The family were watching America's Got Talent on TV. "Not this guy again. This got to be the, how many times has he appeared on this show? I lost track."
"Don't worry, Dad." Hayley said to him. "I have too, although I'm pretty sure it's less than ten."
"This guy doesn't give up, does he?" Steve spoke. "He's this version of Jessie. James and Meowth from Pokemon. He always tries again, yet he always sucks."
"At least he's determined to keep going." Francine pointed out. "Never giving up, that's a good quality to have." She saw that she was getting looks. "But yeah, he sucks. He should learn that the best thing to do is give up sometimes."
"At least he's not those sumo wrestlers from a few years back that makes noise with their bellies. Klaus said. "Remember those guys?"
"Ugh!" Hayley said, disgusted. "Why did you remind me? Those guys were gross and awful! I can't believe they made it to the finals that year."
"Trust me, Hayley. No one can. You must be a idiot fan to have voted for them. Good thing they didn't win because if they did, I would have had a heart attack. I don't know if fish can get heart attacks, but I would had one."
Suddenly, the TV switched to breaking news. Everyone sighed with relief.
"Thank you, NBC for ending my misery!" Roger thanked the TV,
"You know, you could have just went to the other room or something if you didn't want to see the act." Klaus told the alien. Roger turned to him.
"So could you."
"Hello? No I couldn't, fishbowl, remember?"
"Well, you could have hopped out of your fishbowl and risked your life if it meant not seeing a terrible act."
"It could all be flat out terrible and I would still see them. Main life is more important, I'm sorry."
"Be carful what you wish for…"
"Because I might just get it? Yeah, I know."
"Shhhl this may be important, guys!" Hayley told everyone.
"Uh oh!" Jeff said. "The last time I remember broadcast TV getting interrupted by the news, that no good Trump called for a global pandemic and soon enough, things shut down and we all entered quarantine for weeks."
"Relax, Jeff." Stan said to his brother- in- law. "That won't happen or it better not or I'll be pissed."
"Crisis before the Tokyo Olympics!" The newscaster stated. "The runner carrying the Olympic touch has been kidnapped!" Everyone in the room gasped. "I repeat, the runner carrying the Olympic torch has been kidnapped! What will became of the games this year? Only time will tell. The Olympics were cancelled last year due to the pandemic so the question is, will it be cancelled again this year?"
"This is terrible!" Francine observed. "Poor Tokyo! They did nothing to deserve this."
"Cancelling again will be expensive." Hayley stated. "So cancelling again will be even more so!"
"Someone doesn't want them to happen, no doubt." Klaus put in. "And frankly, who could blame them? But what they did was still wrong. That poor runner guy; he was just doing his job and the kidnapper had to ruin it and for everyone else. Like Stephanie on Full House, 'how rude!'
"Could this be another case?" Roger asked out loud. Everyone looked at him.
"Are you crazy?!" Klaus questioned. "You want us to go to Tokyo, Japan? As much as that excites me, and despite vaccines, and America opening back up, we're still in a global pandemic."
"I wasn't going to take you." Roger said, then looked at Steve. "Wheels? What do you say? You want to fly all the way to Tokyo and save the Olympics?" Steve was about to pump his fists in excitement, but looked at his mom and stayed calm. He frowned.
"Unfortunately, I have to pass due to the pandemic. Darn, Corona."
"Smart choice." Hayley said. "Despite being the host, Japan is only 4% vaccinated."
"Hmmm, you'd think with Japan being the host country, it would have been all or mostly vaccinated."
"Well, I do need a detective buddy." Roger pointed out.
"Me," Klaus volunteered. "I'm Fins. I'm your detective buddy." Roger looked at Rogu, ignoring Klaus. "Rogu? How'd you like solving your very first mystery?"
"Mystery?" Rogu wanted to know.
"Aw, come on!" Klaus said, disappointed. "He never solved a mystery before. I have though. I should be able to go with you, plus I really want to visit Japan." Roger sighed.
"Fine."
"Yay!" Klaus cheered. "You won't regret it."
"I already do, but I want Rogu to go too. You show him the ropes of detective work." Klaus saluted.
"He will learn from the best, so you have nothing to fear."
"I don't fear anything."
"Hmmmm, you're probably wrong because everyone is scared of something, but, whatever, I'm not going to argue with you."
"Clever fish, because I fear nothing. So, let's prepare for our trip. The sooner, the better. That kidnapped man needs us. The world literally needs us."
"So, how are you going to get to Tokyo?" Steve wanted to know. Roger looked at him.
"Did you seriously just ask that? Fly, of course."
"But are they still really flying with Corona? I mean, I know they are, but are Japanese borders open for Americans to travel to?"
"Hmmmm," Roger pondered out loud. "You might be right. Flying commercial might be tricky in these trying times." He looked at Stan. "Stan, what do you say to borrowing one of the CIA's private jets?"
"Maybe." Stan said. "But are you sure the officials over there won't have it under control? I don't want you going and when you get there, it will be for nothing. I also don't want you to lose it."
"Stan, it's a big jet. How are we going to lose it? Also, have you even met us? We're going to solve it anyway, hopefully, if the guy is still kidnapped when we get there. Oh, I pray that he's still kidnapped. We haven't solved a mystery in so long. It's overdue."
"Also, also." Klaus added. "It's Tokyo. We'll want to be there for weeks, no matter what. There's tons to do there."
"I bet Toshi would want to go." Steve stated. "He was unhappy that his parents cancelled due to the virus."
"I bet everyone is unhappy that their travel plans have been delayed due to this awful virus, little brother." Hayley said to him, "Not just Toshi and his family everybody else in the whole world is affected, even the ones that were lucky enough to not get a single case is affected in some way or another.
"Even North Korea?" Steve asked. "That country really needs to put its priorities in order. I pray that someday it gets a lot better and free its people."
"Okay." Roger decided. "Get ready, Fins. Get ready Roku, we leave in the morning." He looked at Stan. "Stan, call your boss and make sure we can leave on one of your agency's planes."
"Why bother?" Stan asked. "You're going to do it anyways,"
"You know me so well, Stan, and you also know Legman so well, even through you don't know him that well."
"You two are literally the same person, err, alien."
"Hey, Legman is his own man and most definitely not an alien. "
"Whatever."
The next morning, both Klaus and Roger woke up bright and early. They woke up so early that everyone was asleep, even Rogu.
"Oh, well" Klaus said. "Rogu's still asleep. I guess he can't go."
"He'll wake up." Roger told him. "He needs his beauty sleep."
"Not when we need to go right now. You want to get there ASAP too. The sooner, the better, otherwise the case will get solved. Heck, it might already be solved and we may not know it."
"He'll wake up, Fins. Just be patient."
"Yeah, but when? We don't have all day you know. We need to leave now if we are going to…" Rogu then stretched and yawned, now awake.
"See? What did I tell you?" He looked at Rogu. "Morning, sleeping beauty! Did you sleep well? Did the bed bugs stay away?"
"Bed bugs?" Rogu questioned. "There were no bed bugs in my bed."
"Then you scared them away. I'm proud of you, Rogu." Rogu cheered at this.
"Yay; Rogu happy!"
"I'm afraid he's lying to you, Rogu." Klaus spoke up. "There were no bed bugs because there never was. It's just something adults say."
"Let the boy believes what he wants to believe, Fish!" Roger told him madly through clenched teeth. "Don't crap on his innocence."
"I'm not. I'm just telling him…you know what? Never mind."
"That's what I thought. I advise you not to talk to him like that again, Fish, if you know what's good for you." Klaus nodded, laughing nervously.
"Ja, ja; understood."
"Good. Glad you see it my way." He looked at Stan. "Did you get the jet ready, Stan?"
"No go. Roger." Stan said to him. "I asked him and he agreed with me. You better leave this to the Japanese officials over there. This is no place for you guys to play detectives." Roger was mad.
"This is no game, Stan. I, Legman, take my role seriously as a private eye detective. Have you forgotten we saved your bacon" Rogu smacked his lips.
"MMMM, bacon!" The little alien said.
"It's just a figure of speech, Rogu." Rogu was disappointed.
"So, no bacon?"
"No bacon."
"Okay."
"Und you mean our adventure!" Klaus corrected him. "I was with you too, remember. No, no you don't. You just remember what you want to remember. Typical! But, I, Fins, take my role seriously as well."
"Come on, Stan." Roger begged him. "I want Rogu to see Tokyo and see me as a detective."
"Please?" Rogu begged as well.
"I'm sorry you guys." Stan said to him. "Just stay here with Klaus and your Dad I guess and let the professionals handle this. That's an order." Roger sighed.
"Fine, but Stan, you are a real party pooper. I hope you know that." Stan smiled.
"I'd rather be a party pooper, then have you guys over there."
"Cheer up, Roger." Steve said to him. "We can still watch the Olympics together." He and the rest of the family left. Roger, Rogu and Klaus stayed behind.
"No Tokyo?" Rogu questioned out loud. "No showing Rogu how you do detective work?"
"No, Rogu." Klaus assured him. "If I know Roger, he's got something up his sleeve."
"But Stan said…"
"That won't stop him." Rogu looked up at Roger.
"Is that right?" He wanted to know. "What are we going to do?" He gasped as he realized something. "You don't mean we are going to defy Stan's orders and do it anyways?" Roger smiled as he turned to him.
"Precisely."
"Okay," Roger said when they were in the hanger at the CIA headquarters. "We have to be swift and careful. We don't want…"
"Look!" Klaus said as he pointed his fin up at a security camera before them. "Just as I thought. Avery must have had this installed fairly recently because he was worried that we would show up." Roger swore.
"What do we do now?" Roger looked at him.
"Don't worry, Rogu. I have a plan." He looked at Fins. "Fins, splash some water onto it."
"Somehow I knew that you needed me to do something like this." Klaus stated. "But I'm not complaining, As long as I'm needed, that's all I could ask for. See? You do need me."
"Yeah, yeah, I need you. Just so what I say, Fins."
"With pleasure!" And with that, Klaus splashed at the camera. He repeated and repeated and repeated.
"Did it work?" Rogu wondered out loud. "Did whatever you wanted Klaus to do work?"
"No time to find out, Rogu." Roger told him, "Onto the plane!" Her and Rogu ran inside.
"Wait for me!" Klaus scooted as fast as he could inside of the plane as well.
"Ready for takeoff?" Roger asked as soon as they were onboard.
"Rogu, ready!" The homunculus said.
"Uh, Roger?" Klaus asked him, "Who is going to pilot this thing? None of us can fly und I doubt that there's a pilot on board.
"Easy." Roger told him. "It'll be me."
"You can't fly." Roger got mad at this.
"Oh, yeah?!" He challenged. "Do you want to do it instead?" Klaus shook his head.
"Nein, you can do it, wait you can't, can you?"
"No, but how hard can it be?"
"Okay, but do you even know where you are going?"
"Nope!" Roger took out a phone. "But that's why we have GPS."
"Uh, will that work here?"
"Sure, because I'll make it work."
"Okay, but doesn't this cost extra mon…you know what? As long as we get there in one piece, I don't care." He looked at Rogu. "Okay, Rogu. Buckle up. Tokyo from here is like 21 hours." Roger was shocked at this.
"Wait, 21 hours?! That's almost like an entire day."
"Ja, is that a problem, for you? Oh, and I'm not going to fly, so there."
"It's not a problem. And I would never let you fly. You'll only screw this up."
"I'm not mad at that because I agree that I might or I might not. Heck, I might end up being a better pilot than you. No one will ever know. But I'm not going to fly this thing because I don't want to. Rogu and I will take our seats. Wish your dad luck, Rogu! He's going to need it."
"Good luck, Daddy." Rogu said. He and Klaus left Roger in the cockpit alone.
"Stupid Klaus." Roger scoffed to himself. "I can pilot this thing and I'm going to do it 21 hours straight or more or less, or whatever. I'll show him." And with that, he sat in the pilot's seat and buckled up.
They were well in the air when Rogu spotted someone under one of the seats. He turned to Klaus.
"Someone under seat!" He told the fish.
"Impossible." The fish said back to him. "You, Roger and I are the only ones here." Rogu shook his head.
"That not true. Rogu knows. he sees someone. Rogu sees him right now."
"Okay, Rogu. Show me wrong." Rogu was now determined.
"Rogu will. Follow Rogu." Klaus followed him to one of the few airplane seats on the plaine. They looked under it. But there was no one there. Rogu was surprised by this. "Rogu doesn't get it. Rogu was sure person was under this seat."
"You know what I think, Rogu? I think you tricked me because you need some entertainment on this flight." Rogu turned to him.
"That not true, Rogu wouldn't trick fish."
"Oh, yeah? Where is he then?" Rogu scanned the area and saw he same person hiding behind another seat. He pointed. "There!" Klaus looked. Again, there was no one there. "No, there!"
This went on for quite a bit. As soon as Rogu informed Klaus on the person hiding behind a chair, that said person ran to hide under another seat.
"Okay. I'm getting tired of this, Rogu." Klaus said to him. "Admit it, You tricked me. I'm going back to my seat."
"NOOOO!" Rogu hung his head in sadness as Klaus scooted black to his spot. "Rogu serous. He did not trick fish." Rogu then grew determined. "Rogu will show you!" He went to the seat the person was under. Klaus sighed.
"Give it a rest!"
"No! Not until you see what Rogu sees!" The person got up and ran, but he tripped and fell. Klaus gasped and turned around. He gasped again for he saw the person that Rogu was referring to who was tying his shoes. It was Toshi!
"Toshi?" Klaus questioned out loud.
"Is Toshi Steve's friend?" Rogu wanted to know. Klaus nodded.
"Ja, but he's not supposed to be here." Toshi looked at the two and panicked. He then cursed in Japanese.
"The jig is up, Toshi." Klaus said to him. "Why are you here? Do your parents know that you are here?" Toshi began to speak when Klaus spoke again. "Never mind about that. Let me show you to Roger. I'm sure he'll be upset and shocked like I am." Toshi looked sad as he followed the fish to the cockpit.
"Rogu will come to." He said. "Something to do."
"Fine by me." The fish said. "Frankly, I don't care what you do, Rogu." And so Rogu followed them as well.
"Fins?" Roger asked when he saw them enter the cockpit as he was piloting the plane. "Rogu? What are you guys doing here? You guys aren't allowed back here. Klaus, how could you let…." He then saw Toshi. "Toshi? Steve's Japanese friend? Did you sneak on? Why?"
Toshi said something in Japanese and bowed to him, This impressed Roger.
"Wow!" He observed. "I don't know what you're saying, but I like that you are worshipping me as a god."
"That's just how Japanese people apologize." Klaus explained. "They also do it to be respectful."
"Well, I like it! How can I stay mad at that?" Klaus glared at him.
"Roger!" He scolded. "He came on without our knowing."
"Oh, yeah." This time Roger was mad. "What is that all about, kid? Care to explain?" Toshi began to explain, but it was all in Japanese. "In English so we can understand you." Toshi sighed and began to speak again when Roger interrupted. "You can't speak English, can you? You know what? Stay onboard. It's too late to go back now."
"What?!" Said a shocked Klaus. "No, it isn't. We just left not too long ago. We can easily go back." Roger shook his head.
"If we go back now, that means more time that these people are held captive, therefore it is too late."
"Well, okay, but what about his parents? They may be worried if they don't know where he is and Japan is an awful far away place to have to be without their little boy."
"He's a teenager. He has his cellphone, He can call them." He put the plane on autopilot and jumped out of his seat.
"What are you doing? You need to stay in there and pilot this thing." The alien looked at him.
"No, I don't. That's why Autopilot is a thing. It'll fly us for me like a self-driving plane."
"That may be true, but there are other things to consider. You still need to be here for navigation und other stuff. So keep your butt in that chair and do your job."
"No way! I'm not going to fly this thing for over 21 hours. It may not look like it, fish, but I have a life. Now, I'm going to watch movies the whole time until we get there." He was about to go when Toshi snapped at him, only it wasn't in Japanese, it was in plain English in a thick Japanese accent.
"GET YOUR BUTT BACK IN THAT SEAT AND PILOT THIS THING!" Everybody looked at him, shocked. Toshi sighed. "Yes, I speak English. You think just because you hear me speak Japanese all of the time, I don't know any English? Hello? I live in America and have for almost my entire life. So of course I speak it. I just prefer not to, except for when I have to, like right now for instance." He went calm again. "I'll call my parents, just please, pilot this thing."
"Wow; Toshi!" Said an impressed Roger. "That took guts what you just did right now. I don't know why, but I'll pilot this this. I'll pilot the heck out of it." With that, he sat back in his seat, put his seatbelt on and put his hands on the steering wheel. Klaus looked at Toshi.
"Wow, Toshi!" He marveled as well. "I don't think I could convince him like that. Good job! You must tell me your secret sometime. Now, why are you here by yourself and snuck aboard?" Toshi looked down at him and smiled.
"I promise I'll explain everything after I call my parents." Klaus agreed and he, Toshi and Rogu left the cockpit, leaving Roger alone.
As soon as Toshi called his parents and they knew that it was him, his father yelled Japanese at him. He was so loud that Toshi had to hold back the phone. Klaus and Rogu heard the yell.
"Japanese kid dad is mad." Rogu observed.
"You have that right, Rogu." Klaus agreed. "His dad is pissed. I would be too if my kid went to a faraway county without my permission." Toshi put the phone back to his ear and they continued to talk in Japanese. "I guess we can listen in. It's not really eavesdropping if we can't understand the language."
"Hei." Toshi said into the phone. "Hai, hai." He offered the phone to Klaus. "My sister wants to talk to you."
"Me?" Klaus questioned. Toshi nodded.
"That other guy not here, so have to be you. Don't know other guy too well."
"Wise choice." Klaus spoke into the phone. "Hello? Akiro, right?"
"Right." Akiko answered on the other line. "Is this the German fish Toshi says that Steve owns?"
"That is also correct. My name's Klaus."
"Doesn't Steve have an Uncle Roger? Is he available?"
"He's here, but he can't come to the phone right now, due to him piloting the plane. But I assure you, I will look after your brother like he was my very own. You have my word. I'll pass on the message to him."
"Thank you. Arigoto. My parents want him home right now, but I'm sure that's not possible. Steve said you're there to solve a mystery linked to the kidnappings."
"Correct. Actually it is possible to return him, but your brother won't want to, also my partner won't want to go back now."
"I understand and my parents will have to let it be. He'll be serverly grounded when he gets home I'm sure."
"I'm sure too."
"We would've have gone if not for this stupid virus. He was just upset."
"I know. This stupid virus ruined everything und is continually is doing so. It's understandable. This is very upsetting."
"I just wish it didn't have to come to this and he didn't feel the need to do this."
"Well, I'm sure he knew what he was getting himself into. It was a bad choice, but it was his choice altogether. He should've known better, so he'll have to suffer the consequences at home."
"Oh, I can assure you that he will. I should let you go now. Good luck with the mystery."
"Thank you, or should I say, Arigoto!" They said their goodbyes and Akiko hung up. Klaus gave Toshi his phone back. Toshi put it in his pocket. "You're grounded when you get home." Toshi sighed.
"Figures. I know I'll have to suffer, but I'll make that sacrifice."
"Well, it's too late now. The damage is done." Toshi nodded in agreement. "Well, I'm going to talk to the pilot. We might discuss you coming along too."
"I hope not too harsh and I get off hook with you guys since my parents will punish me at home."
"We'll see, but no promises. Rogu, watch over him. He's done a bad deed. He can't be trusted." Toshi was about to argue, but chose not to make things worse than it already was. Rogu saluted.
"Will do!" Klaus left as he went to the cockpit to talk to Roger.
"Darn, kid." Roger stated as soon as Klaus told him. "He ruined everything."
"You know what I think?" Klaus questioned.
"No, fish, I don't. And because you know me well after all of these years, or you should, you know that I don't care."
"I think he should be punished by us too. After all, he did get on the plane without our knowledge."
"But he'll be punished at home by his parents. You don't think that's not enough? You're cruel, Klaus. Very cruel."
"I know I am, but I feel like it's the right thing to do. He can't just get off scott- free here."
"What do you think his punishment should be? Not have any fun in Tokyo? Hello, Japan is video game and anime central: any teenage boy would dream of living here."
"Ja, I hate to be the party pooper here, but I think so. Also, it's great that he's here."
"Oh, really? How so?"
"Since he speaks fluent in Japanese, and both of us can't, he will be very useful to us. We can understand now what people are saying because he'll be our translator."
"Hmmm, you have a point there, Fins." Klaus was proud of himself.
"Of course I do."
"I was going to have Google Translate translate for us, but the boy may be quicker and easier. Plus, Google Translate messes things up a lot according to that YouTube series."
"Oh yeah, that series rocks! Very hilarious, they don't make sence, but that's what makes them so dang hilarious!"
"Exactly! I like it when we see eye to eye, fish. It's rare, but I like it."
"I completely agree."
"Well, considering we have lots of time left to kill, let show Rogu that YouTube series. And the Japanese kid."
"Not Toshi. Not until after his grounding is up with his parents back home."
"Man, you are showing just no mercy today, are you? Okay, let's just show Rogu then."
"Nein, I'll show Rogu, you just continue to pilot us there." Roger was disappointed.
"Aw, man!" He sighed. "Fine; I can do it."
"I'll believe it when we all get there in one piece." Klaus left.
Almost a whole day later, they arrived in Japan. Toshi was disappointed that he couldn't have any fun while visiting his homeland like he intended, but he was just happy that he was here after so long. Plus, he's been here plenty of time with his family already that he felt like he knew the in and outs of this place. He was a Japanese expert at this point.
"Do you have your mask?" Toshi asked as he put his own on. "The virus is very bad here, not like in America. Only 4% of the population has been vaccinated."
"Oh, sweet, naive Toshi." Roger told him. "You see, I don't need a mask. Because I'm…"
"JUST WEAR A BLOODY MASK!" Klaus yelled at him. "You're a human. Karen." Roger was insulted.
"I'm not a Karen. I believe the male variant of one is a Ken, plus I'm not a hu…" Roger then remembered his persona. "Oh, yeah." He whisked out his mask and put it on. "There, happy? Although, I brought one for Japan, not just for you guys. I know the stupid laws here. I'm not dumb." He looked at Klaus.
"I don't see your mask, Fins."
"I'm a fish. I don't need one. Plus, a mask would look really stupid on me."
"Anything would look stupid on you, but whatever. Get the virus and die, I don't care, but please not here. I may need you for this mystery."
"Of course you need me, I'm the Fins to your Legman."
"Just until Rogu learns the ropes and replaces you." Klaus laughed.
"That'll never happen." He leaned towards Rogu. "No offense, Rogu. It's just that the author might move on to bigger und better things before that happens."
"So what first?" Rogu wanted to know. Roger stretched and yawned.
"Well, first, I'm pooped." He said. "I've been piloting the plane for 21 hours straight. I can't think without my eight hours of recommended sleep." Klaus sighed.
"Knew this'll happen. Fine, we'll go to the hotel and then I'll take Rogu sightseeing."
"I'll go with you." Toshi volunteered. Klaus turned to him.
"Oh no, no fun, your punishment, remember?" Toshi protested.
"But I can show you all of the cool sights and things to do in Tokyo." Toshi sighed when he saw the look Klaus was giving him and sighed. "Fine." And so, they all went to a hotel.
After checking into their hotel, Klaus took Rogu to see the Tokyo Tower.
"This looks familiar." Rogu observed. "Why so familier? Rogu confused."
"Because this looks like Paris' Eiffel Tower?" Klaus questioned. "Ja, ja it does."
"No, I was going to say it looks like that one tower outside of that hotel in Vegas."
"That too I suppose." Rogu was then concerned.
"Will anybody think it crazy that a small alien is walking around Tokyo with talking fish?"
"No." Klaus assured him. "You're posing as a kid and thanks to Japan's low crime rates, parents allow kids as young as five get out unsurvivised as they make their way to school and back. As for the talking fish, anybody will find that strange, not just Japan."
"Oh." He then cheered. "Yay for low crime rates!"
"But that doesn't mean that Japan still has crimes. You still have to be careful. You can't let your guard down. Anywhere in the world that you go to has crime, even Germany I hate to say."
"I suppose every human has their flaws."
"There are no perfect angels out there, that's for sure. Same goes for aliens and fish."
After Tokyo Tower, the two went out to eat at a Kirby themed restaurant.
"Steve and Hayley are surely missing out!" Klaus observed at their table. "Steve, because this is a video- game themed hotel, and Hayley because she'll die with cuteness overload. This might be a bit far from our hotel, but who cares? We're out exploring Tokyo in all of its glory. I say it's worth it. Kirby may be cute and pink, but he can be pretty bad butt at times. Never underestimate size."
"I agree completely." With that, the two clinked their glasses together and drank from them.
The two explored Tokyo some more, got on a bullet train and went back to the hotel. Right before their hotel, they stopped at a shop so Rogu could get a 'I heart Tokyo' T-shirt with a heart symbol replacing the word for heart.
Roger was still sleeping when they got back, so late as it was, they too went to bed. Toshi secretly went out to swim in the hotel's pool and went to relax in the hot spring that the hotel had outside. He, too, went to sleep. He was lucky that the disguised alien and fish were so tired that they didn't even go looking for him. However he suspected a big scolding in the morning. And with that, he too, went to bed.
The next morning, Toshi's suspicion was right and he had a scolding from Klaus. Toshi apologized by bowing his head very low. Rogu went to show him the shirt that he brought.
"Look what I brought!" He announced, showing it off. They all looked at it.
"You took Rogu shopping?" Roger asked Klaus.
:Ja." Klaus answered. "The kid wanted it so I delivered. Now I'm his favorite German fish in the whole world." He looked at him. "Right, Rogu?" Rogu put on his new shirt and looked at him. He shook his head.
"I never said that."
"Ha!" Roger laughed. "It will have to be something way better than a T-shirt to gain my son's love." Klaus shrugged.
"It could happen someday."
"Very unlikely!"
"Let's go downstairs." Toshi said to everyone. "Then you can all experience a Japanese breakfast."
"I agree." Roger agreed. "A good detective needs the meal of champions in order to do his job well."
"Aman to that." Klaus put in.
"Shut up, Fins."
"Hei."
"Ooh, nice" Toshi complimented. "You're learning."
"I knew you'd be impressed, kid. I'm just learning Japanese to impress you." Roger said to him. "Just you wait." Toshi smiled.
"That's good to know." He stated. "It's nice to learn the language and learn about different cultures."
"Ditto." Klaus agreed. He raised his fin. "Up top!" He and Toshi hi-fived each other.
"Whatever," Roger said. "Let's just have breakfast so we can get started." So they went downstairs to eat.
"I didn't know that Japanese use chopsticks." Roger observed as he got chopsticks when they were getting their food. "I thought the Chinese only do that."
"No." Toshi answered. "We do that too."
"Makes sense." Klaus put in. "Since Japan is in Asia like China is and they use similar characters in their writing."
"Similar!" Toshi told him. "But very different." Klaus then frowned.
"Do we even know where we are going?" He wanted to know.
