A Hero's Promise

Chapter 1: A New Lease on Life

My name is Alexander Masterson

And today…I died.

Sort of.

I was walking home and from having dinner with my older brother and his girlfriend when I heard the sound of someone being attacked. I followed the source of the sound and saw a woman being thrown to the ground by a very angry looking man who was clearly on drugs. My body seemed to run on pure instinct, and I tackled the man to the ground, getting the woman away from him.

After telling her to run away, which she did thankfully, I wrestled with drugged up man on the ground for several minutes. Doing my best to hit him with my fists, elbows, and hands but he was clearly stronger than me and I ended up getting hurt even more than he was. We both ended up back on our feet, but I could feel immense pain running through my body. I wasn't much of a fighter, but I was decently strong for my age. The drugged up man rushed at me with a knife in his hand that I didn't see before and tried to stab me in my face. I was able to kick him back but the high the man was on kept him from feeling any pain and he ended up slicing open my calf.

Now I was limping and bleeding which wasn't a good combination and soon enough, I felt a sharp pain radiating from my chest. I looked down and saw that the knife the man was holding was now embedded deep into my chest. I could already feel my breath getting shorter and my body getting weaker. My life was slipping away slowly by the second, but my mind was only focused on one thing.

If I died now, what would keep the man in front of me from getting high again and going after another innocent woman? If these were going to be my final moments, I was taking him down with me.

Keeping a tight grip on the man's wrist to keep him from pulling the knife out of my chest, I raised up my fist up and punched the man's throat. Since he was high on drugs, he couldn't really feel the pain, but the effects seemed to be having an effect on him and his grip slowly began to weaken. I repeated the punch several more times before the man couldn't take the pain anymore and he dropped to one knee. I took advantage of this and punched his solar plexus. My attacks were effecting him in the manner I hoped, and he couldn't hold on any longer. I wanted to end this quickly as I could feel my mind slowly drifting away as my last moments approached.

I swung my elbow across the man's face and broke his nose, the force tossing him to the ground. I noticed a broken off brick next to my feet and picked that up before cracking it over the man's head. I did that twice until I saw blood pooling out of the man's head, telling me he was obviously dead.

I dropped the brick in my hand and slumped against the wall behind me. I slowly slid down the wall as I could feel my slowing heartbeat pump in my ears. I knew there was no way I was going to survive this; I knew that the minute the blade went into my chest.

I pulled the blade out of my chest and clamped my hand over the area where my heart was as blood began pouring out. My mind went cloudy, my vision became blurry, and my heart gave off three more solid beats before it stopped. Telling my entire body that I was dead.

So yeah, that was how I died.

I didn't expect to die at that time, nor did I expect to die at such a young age. I mean, I was only 24. I had plans for what I wanted to do with my life. Do a little bit of traveling with my girlfriend, settle down, have a family of my own, maybe open my own business. Now all of that was over and I didn't know what to expect next.

Would I go to heaven?

Would I see my family members from generations passed?

Or would something else happen?

All that was around me was black. It felt like I was floating in a void of weightlessness. Like floating on a river that just kept going on and on forever. Then out of nowhere, a myriad of colors began rushing towards me. A variable rainbow of flashing colors was flung at me, giving me a type of experience that I had never experienced before. Even though I was no longer among the living, I could feel a warm feeling erupting from the center of my body. Almost like a searing fire was about to burst out of my chest.

As the colors got brighter, a blinding white light came forth from the center of the colors and made my soul feel like it was fading away. I didn't know what was happening to me or where I would be going but I knew that I would tackle whatever came my way with as much energy as I could.

Rebirth

"One more push ma'am, you're almost there!"

I felt a serious amount of pressure around my entire body and before I could even make sense of it, I was assaulted by lights, sounds, smells, that reminded me of the familiar sterile environment of a hospital.

I also found out I couldn't move my arms or legs the way I normally would. I did my best to open my eyes, but it was a struggle, and it took me several times. But when I finally made it happen, the bright lights above me were too much for me and I let out a loud cry. That was when it hit me.

Holy Shit! I'd been reincarnated.

And I was a baby!

I wasn't really looking forward to having to go through all the trials and tribulations that came with growing up again but if this was a new chance at life, then I was going to make the most of it.

I was quickly wrapped in a blanket that felt soft against my skin and protected me from the sudden flash of cold that my infant body wasn't able to handle yet.

"Congratulations, it's a boy!" the doctor who wrapped me up said aloud.

Thank God. I was so happy that I kept my original gender and not gotten gender bent like some people did with anime characters.

"He's beautiful."

The voice that complimented me on how I looked belonged to a beautiful yet exhausted looking woman with long silver hair, bright pink eyes, and skin that was pale and covered in sweat. The paleness was most likely her natural complexion while the sheer layer of sweat that covered her skin was probably cause she had just given birth which confirmed my theory.

This was my mother. And she was beautiful.

"Yes, he is. And he has my eyes. And my skin tone."

I did my best to turn my head to see who spoke, but I wasn't able to due to the fact that I was wrapped up like a burrito. But I didn't have to wonder long when an older man came into my view. The man had a fit build with a stylish beard covering the bottom of his face and short hair that stuck upwards in an interesting fashion, both were a unique shade of cobalt blue. He had broad shoulders, an olive skin tone, and piercing green-gold eyes.

Since the man said I had his eyes and skin tone, that told me he was my father. And he was a handsome man.

My parents were good looking.

My mother giggled, "Yes, he does my love. Hopefully he isn't an exact copy of his father or brothers and goes around breaking hearts." She said making my father roll his eyes.

I let out a small giggle at my mother's words, sounds like my pops was a bit of a lady killer during his youth. And I had brothers! Awesome!

"Oh, looks like our baby boy is already able to laugh," my dad said bopping me on the nose which made me giggle once more, "Nice to know he already knows how to smile at such a young age."

My mother nodded and kissed my head before she looked me in the eye and stroked my head, "Very true. So, what shall we name him my love?"

My father thought it over for a moment before he smiled, "How about Masato?"

"Dougai Masato," my mother said aloud before smiling, "I think it sounds perfect."

My father smiled, "What do you say we let the rest of the family meet him?" he asked aloud which made my mother nod. I was honestly kind of excited. I got a chance to meet my other family members and see what they were like.

This was going to be fun.

Amemura Takahiro was busy pacing back in forth in the waiting room of the hospital he was in. His best friend Fujio had sent him a message that his wife Kiriko had just gone into labor and like the loyal friend he was, he immediately dropped everything and headed to the hospital with his wife Reina.

Takahiro was a thin yet well built man standing at an even 6'0 with white skin, dark brown hair pulled back into a ponytail at the base of his skull with dark red eyes behind a pair of black, square-rimmed glasses. He was dressed in a simple t-shirt and jeans with an incredibly worried look on his face. Even though he had been present of the birth of all Fujio's kids, he couldn't help but feel worried each time.

"Takahiro, you really need to calm down." Reina said.

Reina was a beautiful woman with a fit figure, long black hair with silver highlights, crystal blue eyes. She had a tanned complexion with star earrings in both ears and a moon necklace around her neck and dressed in a simple yellow dress. She had grown used to her husband's nervous antics, but they had been at the hospital for hours and she was tired.

Takahiro looked at his wife, "I'm trying but I can't help but be nervous. This is taking much longer than when the other kids were born."

"Uncle Taka, I get where you're coming from but you're blowing this thing out of proportion. I mean, Mom has done this twice already."

The voice of reason came from Takuya, Fujio's oldest son. Takuya had spiked up russet colored hair, hazel colored eyes, and a tanned complexion. Due to his standings as a professional MMA fighter, Takuya had a muscular build that was emphasized by the jeans and tight dark green t-shirt he was wearing.

Takuya was Fujio and his wife Kiriko's first child but the reason he didn't look like either of his parents was because he was adopted. Takuya lost his parents due to a villain attack and was later adopted by Fujio and Kiriko. Even though he wasn't their child by blood, the couple treated him as if he was. He was showered with love and affection and was supported in all the dreams he had when he was growing up. For all in tensive purposes, he was a blood member of the Dougai family.

"Nii-san is right. If Mom can get through both my birth and Aiko's, I'm pretty sure she'll be fine."

The second male voice came from Takuya's younger brother and the second son of the Dougai family, Kenji. Kenji was more of an intellectual when it came to various situations but don't underestimate him. He was ranked a national Taekwondo fighter for a reason. Kenji shared his father's hair and eyes which were behind a pair of stylish silver, square-rimmed glasses but he had his mother's complexion. Due to his training in Taekwondo, Kenji had a fit, muscular build similar to his elder brother but dressed a bit more conservative in a long-sleeved grey shirt, black jeans, and black vest. With a stylish black fedora atop his head.

Kenji and Takuya easily bonded as brothers would as they grew up. Even when Kenji discovered that Takuya wasn't blood related to him it didn't change the bond that they had with each other. In fact, it brought them closer.

"I know that, but I can't help it. I'm just nervous by nature." Masahiro said biting his nail as he continued his pacing.

"I'm more curious as to what our newest sibling will be." A cute, feminine voice spoke out.

The voice belonged to Dougai Aiko, the only daughter of the Dougai family and currently the youngest in her family sans her newly born sibling. Aiko was like a carbon copy of her mother with the same complexion and eyes but had her long silver hair done in two pig tails. She was wearing a cute white and pink dress that fell just past her knees with black shoes. Out of all the Dougai siblings, she was the most excited to meet their newest sibling. Aiko had just entered middle school and while she already had a lot on her plate, meeting her newest sibling was something she couldn't miss.

"I wonder what they'll be. A cute little brother who I can smother with all the love I can give or maybe an adorable little sister who I can teach all the things I've learned. Ooh, I'm so excited." Aiko squealed.

Takuya chuckled, "If our newest sibling has to deal with you every single day, they may end up getting driven crazy from the very first moment they meet you, Aiko."

Aiko stuck her tongue out at her eldest brother and was about to retort before their father walked into the waiting room. Dougai Fujio was a handsome man by all accounts but at this very moment he looked positively drained but considering the intense situation he had just endured it came with the territory.

"Dad." Takuya said shooting to his feet. His siblings, aunt, and uncle following suit.

Fujio stood in front of his family, all of them waiting with baited breath; each one waiting to hear the news of not only how Kiriko was but also of the condition of the baby.

Fujio didn't say anything for a few moments making everyone worried but their fears were soon dashed as the Dougai Patriarch smiled.

"Everything went smoothly, both the baby and Kiriko are doing just fine."

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief hearing the news of the condition of their family members but there was also the oncoming excitement of the gender of the baby.

"Papa, did Mama have a boy or a girl?" Aiko asked bouncing up and down excitedly.

Fujio smiled at his daughter and patted her head, "It's a boy." He said to everyone.

"I flipping knew it!" Takuya yelled with his arms raised. He and Kenji had been betting on what the gender was going to be and he had a gut feeling that it was going to be a boy.

"Ugh!" Kenji groaned and paid his elder brother his dues. So much for his detective skills.

Fujio chuckled at the way his eldest son's interacted, "Okay boys, enough of that. Come on, your mother's waiting. It's time to meet your little brother."

MHA

Fujio led the members of his family to where Kiriko was resting, and they all laid their eyes on the woman who looked so much better than she did moments ago. Seemed like the feeling of holding her newest child in her arms gave her a little bit of extra energy that she was missing.

"Hi everyone," Kiriko said as she showed them the tiny bundle wrapped in a blue blanket which held a tiny olive-skinned baby currently asleep, "I want to introduce you to Masato."

Takahiro seemed like he was about to geek out immensely, "Oh my god, he's beautiful." He said happily as Reina agreed with her husband, the amount of tears falling from her eyes making it difficult for her to speak. She had grown very close to Kiriko through their husband's friendship and to her it was like seeing another nephew before her eyes.

"Gah, I'm so happy! I get to be a big sister!" Aiko cheered happily as she gushed over her new baby brother.

"Man, I know I've experienced this before, but every time just hits differently." Takuya said looking at his new baby brother. When Kenji and Aiko were born, it was like a searing urge to protect his younger siblings. Even though they weren't his blood, he loved them dearly and wanted to make sure that his newest brother would feel the same.

"I know what you mean Nii-san. After Aiko was born it was like the whole world became just a little bit bigger. Now that we have Masato, it feels even greater." Kenji said. Like his brother, he too felt the desire to keep his younger siblings safe but there was also a burning curiosity within him wondering what kind of man Masato would be when he grew up.

Fujio went up next to his wife and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "To think that out family would get this much bigger. I couldn't ask for more in life." He said cradling his new son's head as he slept.

"He's so beautiful. Just like all of our children," Kiriko sighed leaning into her husband's chest, "I don't think I could be any happier than in this moment."

Fujio couldn't help but agree with his wife. He himself had been orphaned as a child after his parents died and ended up being raised by a wonderful and loving family that treated him as if he was their own by birth. They taught him the value of family and he instilled those same principals in his own children. It wasn't blood that made family, it was the bond that people shared that made them family.

Fujio looked down at his newest son and smiled as he watched him sleep peacefully in his mother's arms, "You are going to be something incredible my son, I just know it." He said as he kissed his son on the head. Almost knowing the kind of person his child would become and he couldn't wait to see it.

Four years later

Four years had passed since my rebirth, and I soon discovered that I wasn't in the same world that I used to be in. For starters, he found himself in the world of My Hero Academia. Being the major nerd that he was, he knew full well what to expect in my coming years but not exactly who I would be meeting. I hadn't met any of the main cast yet, but I was looking forward to seeing them eventually. As for now, I was just enjoying my new life with my new family.

My older brothers were awesome. Not only were they caring and loving but in them and in my father, I also saw that accomplishing my dreams wasn't an impossible feat. My older brother Takuya I quickly discovered we weren't related by blood, but it didn't matter. He was my big brother and that was all that mattered. I often spent a lot of time in the gym where my older brother trained. Knowing that my big brother Takuya or Taku-nii as I affectionately called him, was currently the rising talent in Japanese MMA made me very happy. Marital arts had always been a love of mine in my past life and now that I had a sibling who was just as into it as I was, I could use that as a way to train in some self-defense when I got older.

When I wasn't with Taku-nii, I was spending time with Kenji-nii-san or my parents. Kenji-nii-san had just graduated from college but was still living at home for the moment so he can save up and get his own place. Currently he worked as a junior associate at a law firm but planned on opening up his own detective agency once he had enough saved. My dad worked as a chef believe it or not which I loved! I was training to be a chef in my past love, so I knew it was going to be interesting to see my dad's cooking style and even learn a few new things from him.

My mother ran a very successful non-for profit charity organization that distributed various types of help and aid to places not just in Japan but all over the world. She had been a very talented dancer in her youth and gained the ability to travel around the world to different countries. This inspired her need to give back to the people who needed help and now, she was one of the most sought after people in Japan for when it came to charity work. And her sponsors and donors agreed with her.

As for my sister, well she was still in school, but she was already making waves among some of the other schools in the district due to her incredible music talents. She played nearly every kind of instrument you can imagine, and her singing voice was immaculate. Whenever I had issues sleeping, she would often sing to me to help me relax. When I finally learned how to speak, I would sing with her. Or as well as I could give my still developing vocal cords. She treated me as any kind big sister would and loved cuddling me whenever she got the chance and would often show me off to her friends which was kind of nice since they all seemed to love me.

But I drew the line at when they wanted to use me as a makeup model. I was not going to suffer through that.

My days were filled with joy and happiness, just like any kid could love. As the years passed, I finally got a good view on what kind of Quirks my family had. Nearly every one of them had some kind of energy related Quirk. My mother could use her own vitality to either heal people or calm them down in stressful situations. My dad could absorb energy from everyday actions such as walking or working out and use that energy to create an energy barrier around himself and others. That was actually really dope in my opinion.

Aiko could create different effects through the use of her voice, Kenji-nii-san had a higher sense of vision than others allowing him to detect different changes in the environment or different trace elements people left behind in passing, and Taka-nii could transform his body into pure light energy that he used to travel to different places at high speeds.

Now that I was four, I knew that if I was blessed to have a Quirk, I knew it would come soon.

However, at the moment I was with my mother. We were walking down the street on our way to my mother's place of business. I had been very curious about how her place was organized and since I wasn't in school at the moment, I had a lot of free time. Now that I was growing, I had developed my own sense of fashion which my family seemed to appreciate. Currently I was dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans, a red t-shirt, and a grey lined black button-up shirt over it all along with some dark green and black sneakers. Around my neck was a stylish silver chain and a black newsboy on my head which covered my short cobalt-silver hair.

Like my father my eyes were a unique shade of green-gold, and my skin tone was a nice shade of olive. I actually had the darkest skin of all my family members which I enjoyed. It made me stand out even more and made me, me.

I was walking hand in hand with my mother since I was still rather small, and she didn't want me to get away from her. As we were walking, we passed by an electronics shop that was showing a clip of All Might and his latest victory. It was still a bit of a shock to know that in this world All Might was still the top of the Hero food chain. But it was still pretty cool to know that he was still large and in charge, even if he wouldn't always be that way in the next few years. If I arrived at the same time as the main series started.

I stopped dead in my tracks as the clip played and I had to admit, even over video, the man had a certain presence. It was like he had this kind of pull that could make anyone draw their eyes to him the minute he arrived. No wonder he was the Number One Hero and The Symbol of Peace.

I looked up at my mother, "Hey Mama, why do you think All Might is the Number One hero?"

My mother looked down at me and raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean Ma-kun?" she said calling me by the term of endearment she began calling me once I learned how to read.

"Well, All Might is really strong, and he saves so many people but so do other heroes. I'm just wondering what makes him Number One?"

In all honesty I was very curious about it. Now that I was literally living in a world of heroes and had seen them fight villains and other criminals on a daily basis, it really made me think of just what exactly it was that made a hero, a hero.

"Maybe, he's just the hero people want."

It wasn't my mother who answered but someone new. I looked over to see a girl my age with long blue-black hair, pale skin, and amber colored eyes. She was dressed in a pair of blue jeans, white sneakers, and a long-sleeved blue shirt with white sleeves. Around her neck was a necklace that reminded me of a cloud. She looked rather cute, but it was her answer that made me curious.

"The hero people want?" I asked her.

The girl nodded, "There's a lot of bad things out in the world and a lot of people see All Might fight them all by himself. Maybe, for the people who have been watching heroes for so long, think of All Might as the kind they want to see."

I guess in a way it made sense. Ever since the profession of Hero became a mainstay in this world, a hero like All Might, who was easily recognizable for his strength, smile, and his methods were probably all some people had known. Hearing what she said, it made sense that he was Number One Hero.

"Wow, you're really smart." I said with a smile.

The girl seemed to blush at the compliment but smiled nonetheless, "Thanks," she said turning back to the TV, "One day, I'm going to be a hero like All Might." She said almost dreamily.

I smiled, "So you want to be a hero?" I asked her.

The girl nodded, "Yeah! I plan on having my big sister and mama train me in martial arts when I get older so I can be a great hero like All Might and save so many people!" she said excitedly.

I gave off a laugh, not even noticing the taller woman behind her who looked just like her but with bright blue eyes and her hair done up in an elegant braid. She was dressed in a stylish blue sundress with a white shawl over her shoulders. She and my mother seemed to be enjoying the way that the girl and I interacted.

"You know, you're really cute when you get all excited like that." I said with a smile.

"C-c-c-cute?!" she said stuttering with a blush.

I nodded and my mother knelt down next to me, "Ma-kun, you can't always call a girl cute out of nowhere."

I looked to my mother and tilted my head, "Really? Why not? You and Nee-san seem to like it whenever I call you cute or pretty."

My mother giggled, "Older woman and siblings are a different matter Ma-kun."

Even though I knew what my mom meant when she told me about giving a girl a compliment out of the blue, it was kind of fun to mess with the women by giving them a compliment every now and then.

"But she seems like she likes it." I said pointing at the girl who blushed even harder.

"Ma-kun, don't point," she said putting my arm down, "And if you are going to call the girl cute you should do the proper thing and introduce yourself."

I nodded, "Okay mama."

The girl seemed to get over her embarrassment for a moment before looking at me, "Your name is Ma-kun, right?"

I looked at her for a moment before scratching the back of my head, "Well, Ma-kun is what my mom and sister call me, but my actual name is…"

"Out of my way!"

Everyone around me turned their heads at the sudden and loud voice, running straight towards us was a man with long, wild hair, blood red eyes and ragged clothing. He was running with several bags of money in his arms with a group of policemen running after him. He barreled through anyone who was unlucky enough to be in his path before turning his attention and locking eyes with me and my group. He ran towards us and pushed both my mother and girl's mother to the ground before pulling the two of us into the middle of the street and wrapping an arm around us.

His fingernails turned to claws and he shot some out at the oncoming cars that were getting close to us, causing a serious pile up of cars around us. The girl next to me screamed in fear as the arm that was around our necks had the hand sharpen to the point of a sharp blade. It made sense that she was scared, she was a child. Hell, I was a child too. But there were times back in my old life when I had to deal with terrifying situations all the time, usually it was just walking down the street.

But this was different. This was a new world and a new life for me. I was not going to let it end, not mine or the girl that I had met. I suddenly began to feel a rush of energy coursing through my body, starting from my heart all the way down my arm. I looked down and for a just a quick glimpse, my arm flashed a bright red.

"No one move! If you guys don't want these kids here sliced into ribbons, then you better just stay back!"

The man yelled out in frustration as the police arrived and did their best to keep everything under control, but the man's erratic behavior just made things a lot more difficult.

"Just stay calm! Let the kids go and we can discuss things!" the head police officer said.

"Screw that! If you want these brats in one piece, get me a car! I want a car to get me out of here and I better not have anyone follow me once I get it!" The man yelled brandishing his claws to the officers around him. My mother and girl's mother were trying to push past the crowd to try and get to us, but the police officers held them back. At the moment there weren't any heroes around, so it was all on the police to try and calm the guy down and get the two of us away from danger.

The girl next to me broke down in tears and cried her heart out while I just kept a straight face. I knew that in these kinds of situations if the hostages were freaking out it would rile the abductor even more. And that would lead to someone getting hurt. Despite the situation I wasn't staying calm, which felt odd for me. Even back in my previous life I wasn't the bravest person, but I did have a strong moral compass. I didn't do anything if I knew that someone was going to get hurt and this was a situation where I didn't want to do anything for this girl to get hurt.

Almost as if my body was reacting to my thoughts, the same energy I felt before coursed through me again but this time it was a lot stronger and it made my body feel warm. Not doing too much to draw attention to myself, I looked down at my right arm and saw that is was glowing the same bright red glow as before.

"Hey, don't even think of using your Quirks! I see any funny business, the both of you are ending up in bits on the ground!" the man yelled out as soon as he noticed my glow.

I gave off a few deep breaths and focused on the energy I was feeling, I did my best and the energy around my arm dissipated. The girl next to me was getting even more scared and the man was getting even more aggravated. I didn't know if there were any heroes around or coming but I knew the sooner that this crazy guy was away from us, the better.

I looked over and saw my mother in tears and honestly, it broke my heart. But it also made me angry. Why the hell should my own mother feel this kind of dread and despair in a moment like this all because some crazy person didn't want to get caught with all the money he stole? All this terror and all this fear, just because one selfish person didn't want to do the right thing.

No way. I wasn't going to let this happen.

Without drawing any attention to myself, I took a deep breath in while the crazy man's attention was on the police officers around us. I focused the energy I was feeling throughout my body and started to condense it into my left arm. My left arm was hidden from view, so it wasn't going to make the crazy guy get any crazier. I looked down and saw that the same bright red energy was surrounding my left forearm. Not wanting to use so much energy that I could kill someone, I took a page out of Danny Rand's book and focused my energy into my left fist.

Once I felt like the energy was enough, I took a hold of the girl's hand that was next to me.

"W-what are you doing?" she asked me through the tears that were falling down her face.

I looked to her and gave her a reassuring smile, "Don't worry, just trust me." I said.

For some reason I didn't know why, she chose to place her trust in me and nodded. Now there was no way that I could mess this up. I took a deep breath to steady myself and hold the energy in my fist. I looked down at the arm around my neck and took a big old bite out of his arm.

"Ah, gah, fuck, that hurts!"

Obviously, the pain of me biting into the man's arm hurt enough so that he had to pull his arm away from both me and the girl. Once we were out of his grip, I pulled on the girl's hand and spun her out of the way. I gave her a small nudge and moved her back even further to the police line while I pulled my left arm back. With my fist cocked, I threw it forward and with a mighty roar; I drove my fist into the crazy man right in the stomach. Sending him flying with my energy infused punch. It was so powerful that he literally bounced on the pavement three times before he ended up embedded into the side of a nearby building.

I stayed in the position I was in, with my arm extended and my fist out as everyone around me saw what happened.

"Holy cow!"

"Did you see that power?!"

"The kid is so young and yet he managed to send the robber flying with one punch!"

While I was rather pleased with the way the people were talking about me, as things began to calm down; I soon realized something was wrong with me.

I couldn't move my arm.

I tried to move it the smallest of an inch but the second I did, an intense pain shot through my arm all the way up to my shoulder. I let out a scream of pain as my arm dropped to my side and I fell to my knees. I wasn't crying before but I was now. I had never broken a bone before and now I realize why.

This fucking hurts!

With all the pain running through my arm and the exhaustion leaving my body from all the high paced action that just happened to me, I could do the only thing that felt right to me.

I passed out.

MHA

I awoke with gasp and sat up in the bed. I looked around and saw the familiar sightings of a hospital room. That's just great, I hate hospitals.

"Ma-kun, you're awake!"

The sight of my mother rushing over to me came into my line of sight right before she collided with me and wrapped me in a tight hug. She fretted over me like any mother would and I couldn't blame her. I had just knocked out a villain who had taken me hostage with one punch using the powers of a Quirk I had never shown before. Yeah, it made sense she was worried.

When she squeezed me harder, I finally noticed the dull throbbing pain rushing through my left arm. I let out a yelp of pain and looked down, making my mother let go of me. I saw that my entire arm was wrapped in a cast with my arm pressed against my chest.

"Oh Ma-kun, I was so worried! After you threw that punch, you just passed out. The doctors said it was the result of you using your Quirk in a way your body wasn't used to. It not only hurt your arm but also drained all your energy." My mother said still hanging onto me just not as tight.

I let out a sigh as I looked down at my arm, "I guess this is what they call karma. I did something stupid and reckless which could have gotten me, and that girl killed. Now, all I have to show for it is a broken arm."

"Oh, Ma-kun." My mother said in a kind tone. She was worried about me, and I couldn't blame her. I ended up in a hospital all because I tried to do something good but all it got me was me unconscious on the ground. Damn, all I felt right now was like a complete idiot.

The door to my room burst open and my father and older siblings flooded in. They all had worried looks on their faces which grew even more concerned once they saw my arm in a cast.

"Masato." Takuya said before he rushed to my side and took a look at my arm.

"Man, you really got banged up on this one huh bud?" he said as he gently prodded my arm. Taku-nii was by no means a doctor but he did have some basic medical knowledge due to his time in the ring. He had broken and set more bones in his time then I had seen anyone else do.

"Given the state that he was in when he got hurt, I say he got off easy." Kenji-nii-san said as he sat down in a chair on the other side of my bed. Ken-nii-san was always the more composed one of all my older siblings, but he had a certain tick of clenching his right hand repeatedly whenever he was nervous, and he was doing that rapidly right now.

"Well, I swear that if I ever see that crazy long-nailed bastard I am going to tear him apart!" Nee-san said in a rather unnatural way of speaking for her. I knew that Nee-san was a rather easy going and cheerful person but whenever it came to my safety or the wellbeing of anyone in our family, she became incredibly vicious. I didn't want to be anywhere near her if she actually made good on that threat.

"Aiko, calm down," my father said in a stern yet calm voice as he sat on my hospital bed next to me, "Takuya, how's he looking?"

"Well, if my knowledge is anything to be agreed with, looks like our boy has a dislocated shoulder, a fractured radius and wrist, and last but not least, a few cracked knuckles." Taku-nii said as he set my arm down carefully.

My father placed a hand behind my head, "How do you feel bud?" he asked me.

"Other than the dull pain in my arm, I feel like an idiot dad. I made a stupid decision that could have ended a lot worse. I should have just stayed still and not made a scene. Maybe then I wouldn't have a busted arm and you guys wouldn't be so freaked out." I said.

My father pressed his forehead to mine, "The fact that you regret the choice you made makes me happy son. Yes, what happened was unfortunate but the way you handled it was smart all things considered. You got yourself and the girl that was with you to safety before launching an attack that took out the villain that took you hostage and made sure no one got hurt. You did good son." He said.

I was honestly almost brought to tears with the words my father said. I thought that after everything I did, he would be furious or at least upset but he was actually proud that I did what I did and that no one was hurt.

"Oh yeah, the girl that I was with. Is she okay? And what about her mother?" I said after me and my father separated.

Kenji-nii-san chuckled, "He's worried more about someone else's health than his own."

Taku-nii shook his head, "Yeah, he's definitely a Dougai."

My mother giggled, "Yes Ma-kun. From what I heard from the girl and her mother are just fine. Only a few small scrapes."

I nodded with a smile, "That's good to hear."

The door to my room opened again and a man with black hair, glasses, and a youthful looking face dressed in a white doctor's coat appeared. In all honesty, he looked way too young to be a doctor.

"Ah, good, the whole family's here," the doctor said as he looked over a chart in his hands, "Dougai Masato-kun, wow, I have to say you must be the bravest 4-year-old kid I have seen in a very long time."

I blushed at the doctor's words, "Thank you sir, but I'm just glad no one was hurt. Save for the guy I hit." I said making my family chuckle.

The doctor let out a laugh as well, "Oh I wouldn't worry about him too much. Gott say kid, you got one hell of a left cross. Cracked the guy's chest and sternum in one go."

I blinked, "Woah."

The doctor nodded, "I agree, oh and for the record just call me Hanaya-sensei," he said making me nod, "Now about your arm, despite the injuries you sustained your arm should heal in a few weeks. But your gonna need to be in that cast until your fully healed."

I let out a groan, "Great, that'll be fun."

"Oh, don't worry, the way the media is blowing up your actions earlier I'd say that cast is your badge of honor." Hanaya-sensei said to try and lighten the mood.

I groaned again, "Great, I hate cameras."

Hanaya-sensei nodded, "Can't blame you on that."

My father addressed the doctor, "Sensei, is there any news about how the development of my son's Quirk will react with his body?"

Hanaya-sensei nodded, "Actually yes but its nothing out of the ordinary. As your son grows so will his Quirk but if he applies himself to learning how to control it then there really shouldn't be any issues."

"Um, Sensei, what exactly is my Quirk?" I asked.

Hanaya-sensei grinned, "Your Quirk is something rather interesting. What your Quirk allows you to do is manipulate Aura.

I blinked, "Aura?"

Hanaya-sensei nodded, "Yes, you see Masato-kun, as humans we all emit low levels of electricity known as an electromagnetic field. In fact, every living thing, including trees, flowers, and animals emit a field as well. These fields have been called many things over the years from Ki, Chi, Chakras, but the most commonly well-known term is Aura. Your Quirk allows you to manipulate this field around yourself and possibly others, giving you a rather unique ability."

I nodded as I heard the doctor's explanation of what my Quirk was, and I understood the majority of it. I had heard the term Aura before and in my mind, I could see it in a few different ways. Creating spheres of Aura in my hands like Lucario, emitting blasts of energy like Shang-chi, even strengthening my body like Iron Fist. If I trained myself well enough with using my Quirk, I could do a lot in the future.

A thought ran through my head, "Sensei, if my Quirk allows me to manipulate Aura, which basically means the energy around me, could I use to heal injuries?" I asked.

The doctor flipped through his chart and hummed, "Well, I don't have a definite answer for you right now, but I would have to say it's definitely possible. Those who have studied Aura say that there are those who emit an Aura that has a natural healing presence. If you train and learn to harness your Quirk enough, you may be able to learn some healing abilities."

As I listened to the doctor's words, I began thinking about how I would be able to heal injuries if it was at all possible. I closed my eyes and focused on the energy that was around me. I soon began to feel a sort of static-like feeling rush over me, similar to what I felt earlier when I was taken hostage. Instead of thinking along the lines of wanting to protect myself or fight back against a harmful presence, I instead engineered the thoughts running through my mind of being helpful and wanting to heal. I opened my eyes and focused on the energy running through my body, I looked down and saw that instead of a red glow surrounding my undamaged arm it was a light green.

"Wow." Ken-nii-san said as he looked at me.

"Masato." Taku-nii breathed out.

"What are you planning on doing, son?" my father asked me.

I moved my glowing arm over my damaged one and touched it, making the green glow spread over it. After a few moments, I took my arm away and lifted my casted arm. I moved it around in the air several times and I didn't feel any pain at all.

"I-I think I healed myself." I said.

"What in the world?" Hanaya-sensei quickly moved over to me to check my arm. After quickly removing my cast, which took longer than I expected, Hanaya-sensei saw that my healing had taken full effect and my arm had been completely healed.

"Incredible. You were able to focus your Aura energy into a different kind of frequency and reformed it into a healing energy. Your arm has been completely healed." Hanaya-sensei said.

I smiled, "Cool." I said but I was then assaulted by an immense feeling of exhaustion and almost lost my footing. Luckily, Taku-nii caught me before I hit the ground.

"I feel…really…tired." I said trying to keep my eyes open.

Taku-nii helped me to my bed again and I laid down, "What happened to him Sensei?"

"Well, given that his Quirk is used by focusing the energy around his own body, altering its frequency so that it healed him probably just took too much of his stamina. He should get it back in no time. In fact, I recommend trying meditation. It's a common technique used by many people who study aura."

I nodded and just took some time to relax. I wasn't really someone who put a lot of faith in meditation but if the doctor said it could help me then I might give it a chance if it could help me with my Quirk.

MHA

I was quickly discharged the next day seeing as my injury had been completely healed thanks to my Quirk and I was very happy about it. I hated hospitals. They were just too…sterile for my taste. My siblings had volunteered to take me home since my parents still had to work and it was a nice way for me to spend a little bit of time with my older siblings.

After all the paperwork and discharge info was taken care of, I started walking out of the hospital with my siblings in tow.

"Ma-kun!"

I raised an eyebrow at the sound of my nickname and looked up at my sister who shook her head showing she wasn't the one who called me that. I turned around to try and find the source when I was literally tackled by a figure that suddenly came into my view. The force was so strong that it knocked me to the ground.

"Ow!" I groaned out and looked at what exactly knocked into me and was shocked to see that it was the same girl that I had helped the day before.

"Oh, it's you." I said as the girl looked up at me but still had her arms wrapped around me.

"I'm so happy to see that you're okay! My mama told me that you had surgery and I was scared that something bad had happened." She said hugging me like a plush toy.

I did my best to speak but her grip on me was very tight that it took some of the air out of me, "Um, well thanks for worrying but I'm okay. But could you please let me go so we can stand up."

She looked at me and nodded before she got off me, letting me get to my feet. My siblings were all snickering at me, most likely due to my current situation of being tackled by a girl. Her mother soon came up and stood next to my siblings.

"Kasumi, I told you not to go running off. I said we would ask the doctors if we could see Ma-kun before he left. But I didn't expect him to get released so soon. I heard he had a broken arm."

Taku-nii nodded, "He did actually. Dislocated shoulder and the whole lot but after he learned about what his Quirk was, he learned to heal himself."

I scratched the back of my head in embarrassment, "Yeah, even though it worked but it drained all my stamina," I said before I looked at the girl in front of me, "And I think a proper introduction is what we need to do first. My name is Dougai Masato, its nice to meet you officially." I said with a smile.

The girl giggled and gave a small bow, "Aiba Kasumi. Its nice to meet you officially, Ma-kun!" she said happily.

I guess that was going to be my name from now on. That's okay. Having someone other than my family call me by a nickname, especially a cute girl, it was kind of nice. Kasumi introduced her mother as Aiba Fumika while I introduced my brothers and sister. We all got along fairly well and Kasumi and I kind of just clicked. It felt really nice to be able to connect with someone my own age and not just my older siblings.

"Oh, by the way Ma-kun, what kind of Quirk do you have?" Kasumi asked me.

"Oh yeah, Masato, did you decided on what to call your Quirk?" Taku-nii asked me.

I smiled and nodded before activating my Quirk and have my body surrounded by an aura of multiple colors, shocking everyone around me, "My Quirk…is called Aura Force."

My Quirk wasn't what I expected, and I didn't expect to be placed into the world of one of my favorite anime, but I was. This was my world now and this was my home. And by the powers that brought me here, I swear that I will grow stronger day by day to keep the people I had come to meet and the family I was born to safe from the harm that appears in this world.

That is my promise.
