We good? Okay...
Chapter One: "The Day Everything Diverged"
The situation was dire and panic inducing, Rex had admitted, and the look on his parents' faces was only proving his case.
Right before everything started, it was just a regular day for all of them. Everything went haywire when the machine that contained all the nanites was sabotage.
That machine was Rex's parents, his brother and a bunch of scientists/researchers life's work...and it all came to an abrupt and explosive stop.
Everything was going just fine until someone, Rex wasn't sure who, sabotaged their hard work, leading to the mass panic of everyone in the facility.
"Rex, run away!" Rex's mother, Violeta Salazar cried out, putting all her worry on him and Caesar, who were all way too close to be in a safe zone.
Rex...just stood there. Frozen in fear at what the machine was gonna do. It seemed like it was about to blow up.
Caesar and his father, Rafael Salazar, was on the control pad of the container, doing some sorts of things about the nanites.
Rafael bowed his head down in reluctant acceptance. He then turned to his older son. "Caesar, whatever happens to us...be sure to keep Rex safe..."
While it wasn't obvious, Caesar went wide eyed. Were they...actually going through with this? Then, that meant... Caesar took a deep breath, processing what's about to happen. "I promise..."
He was about to say more things, but yet words got stuck under his dry throat. Rafael nodded, thankful that at least someone was looking out for his younger son. "Thank you, son... Now, please go find him...I don't want him to see us like this."
Caesar reluctantly complied as he stood up from where he sitting and left the containment room without leaving a word.
Violeta Salazar, who watched the whole interaction silently, looked back at Caesar solemnly as she thought this was gonna be her last time seeing her sons.
For better or for worse, she was wrong...
She got to see Rex for the last time, though it was at a wrong time and place.
Rex was near the nanite containment room, in front of the very closed door that trapped Violeta and Rafael inside.
Through the glass part of the door, a strong yellow, almost blinding, light began to make its way out and Rex only continued staring at it. "Mom...? Dad...?"
"Let's go, Hermano!" Arms suddenly wrap around him, which caught him off guard. He was about to scream for help, but looking back, he was internally thankful that it was only older brother who did that.
Caesar then ran, with Rex secured in his arms, as fast as humanly possible. He didn't know how much time they have, but he wasn't gonna stand around and find out.
Rex, on the other hand, was scared yet confused. "Caesar, wait! What about om and dad!?" He panically asked, worrying about their parent's well-being.
Caesar found himself frowning at his little brother's question, he couldn't blame him though. He too was worried about their parents, but he had to keep moving forward. "Rex, we don't have time! They asked me to protect you no matter what! And I'm gonna do just that..."
Caesar hurriedly informed, resuming to run towards his lab, which was also a mobile, flying ship. People called it as `Caesar's Pod Laboratory`.
Eventually, he had made it to his destination, with some tripping and bumping into people on their way.
They quickly entered inside and without skipping a beat, Caesar ran to the cockpit of the pod. Caesar then put Rex down gently yet swiftly in the cockpit passenger seat.
"Stay here." He told the boy, who helplessly complied to his brother's words.
Frantically, he rushed his process on powering up the pod. As he awaited for that, Caesar went back to Rex – who was still worried about their parents – and actively buckled in his seatbelt.
"Hang on tight, this is gonna be a bumpy ride." After assuring that his little brother was by his side, Caesar proceeded to go back at the control pad.
Seconds after not too long, yet not early enough, the engines riled up, causing The older Salazar in the room to have some bit of relief even in such dire of times.
Caesar then sat on the pilot's seat and proceeded to press a few buttons. Entering a specific code, the pod slowly hovered above their parking ground and Caesar twisted the wheel to get the ship flying out through the skies.
The pod flew off pretty quickly and Caesar had his hopes up that him and Rex will be...fine..
However, that moment was where he unknowingly jinxed himself.
*BOOM!*
Both the Salazar Brothers had their eyes widen in shock and terror as they felt it... A shockwave breached Caesar's Pod, the force of the shockwave alone blew the pod away and increased its speed to probably the same pace as a jet.
With how fast they had gone, the Salazar Brothers was forcibly pulled back and had their backs strongly pressed up against their respective seats.
Through all of this happening, Caesar had one thought going on his mind. 'Was... Was that an explosion!?'
A small tinge of sadness was felt as he knew...that their parents...were now gone...
He shook that thought off. Now was not the time to mourn, his main priority now was to keep his little brother safe. And he intend on keeping his brother alive, no matter what.
So, he held onto the wheel firmly, concentrating on twisting it to where he needed to.
Much to the irritation of Caesar, the lab was shaking like no tomorrow, disorienting the Salazar teen's balance and also not giving the both of them a pleasant time.
The quake continued and that's when Caesar had enough of it. With absolute determination, the teen first unbuckled his seatbelt and ran to the lab part of the pod.
"Caesar! Where are you going!? Are you gonna leave me!?" Rex looked terrified by the thought of it alone. His brother thankfully heard and gave his answer.
"No, I'm just working some stuff out! I'm still with you, don't worry!" While the situation was panic inducing, Caesar had to calm down in order to properly get their butts out of what mess they were in.
Making it on the lab portion of the ship, Caesar saw most if not all of the machines and parts of the pod had overheated and gone overdrive. All of the technology in the room was popping out sparks of deadly electricity wildly. It was chaos.
The older Salazar instinctively cross his arms right in front of him to somewhat shield himself from the out of control sparks.
He urgently made his way on the conductor and tried his damn hardest to fix the problem. The stress of the circumstance did not made the work bearable in every sense of the word.
Meanwhile at the cockpit, Rex was getting more worried than earlier. Not from the violent shaking of the pod, not from the fact that he was heading into unknown territory, but because of his older brother.
His day was normal, yet it abruptly came to a grinding halt when someone – he didn't know who – initiated to blow up the very machine that contained thousands if not millions of nanites, a microscopic machines that was his parent's and even Caesar's work.
All those hard work, all those wasted time, all came to literally blow up in their faces.
So, it was natural that Rex became more apprehensive of his brother, and he might unknowingly need his help.
Thinking that was ture, Rex put on a brave face and decided to rush to his brother, in fear that he might be in mortal danger.
With some difficulty, Rex took off the belt that was holding him in place and got off his seat to run towards Caesar.
"Caesar!" Rex worriedly called for his brother to answer back.
"It's okay, hermanito! Things are just—WHOA!" Caesar immediately replied to Rex but the younger Salazar could practically hear him having a bad time.
And the sudden yell in the end of his sentence made Rex all the more determined to reach him.
With the use of his technopathic capabilities, Rex opened the door for himself and he quickly ran pass it.
He was immediately taken aback once an out if control wire, that was wildly flapping around and letting out sparks of electricity, cross paths and almost grace his face. Thankfully, he managed to dodged it in the nick of time.
In reflex, Rex shielded himself with his arms crossed in front of him. He then looked through the gap in between his arms and saw Caesar.
Good news, he's still alive and well, the latter part he hoped was true because he honestly couldn't tell. Bad news the ship conductors were on overdrive & malfunctioning!
From out of nowhere, a huge blast of electricity splashed onto Caesar, in which made him flew off, slamming into a wall.
"Caesar!" Rex yelled, shocked from what had just happened.
He then turned to what he presume was a control pad of the ship, which certainly was overheating thanks to the massive amounts sparks popping out of it. In the spur of the moment, Rex thought of an idea to stop the overheating and the ship all together.
Though, he did not say it was a good, let alone a great idea. But he chin up and decided to do it anyways. "Hold on bro. I'll fix this!"
Those words were enough to put aside his pain and go to shock at what Caesar had heard.
Fix!? No offense to Rex's intelligence but HOW!? How in pray tell was he gonna fix his ship. "REX! Don't!"
It was too late for Caesar's words to breach Rex's ears. Now, it had fallen into deaf ears as Rex didn't even made a reaction towards his warnings.
The younger Salazar just pushed on.
A pop of electricity was enough for Rex to come into a halt, reflexively covering himself with his arms.
"Hermano, stop! It's too dangerous!" The warnings had finally reached Rex. The boy side eyed his brother, who couldn't get him fast enough thanks to the quaking of the ship and the many spurts of electricity almost touching his skin.
Rex didn't bother with Caesar's words. In his eyes, this was a do or die situation! He either doesn't do it, which could cause both of their lives, or does do it, which could cause him to gain strong injuries.
He opted to do the latter, of course!
So, Rex was upon the power conductor pad — or something? GUH! He doesn't know what it's called, okay!? The only thing that's in his way from reaching it was am out of control wire, flapping all over the place and releasing scary electric bolts that could kill any lesser man.
He stood cautiously before it, desperately awaiting for an opening.
And soon enough, the opportunity found itself and Rex didn't waste time to exploit it.
Jump pass it, Rex was now in hands reach of the pad and a bead of sweat rolled down his forehead as the peer pressure of the moment started to kick in.
With a hard thunk, Rex aggressively slammed his palm onto the pad and closed his eyes to concentrate.
His mind had gone blank with the only thought in it was...to control his nanites, more specifically the first batch given to him... He focused long and hard on rebooting the whole ship's system with just a touch of a hand.
And believe me when I say that, it wasn't an easy task. But he has to try...or else...
Then his mind recalled to a certain part of his memory with the co-researchers of his parents. One that's vague yet familiar, in a sense.
"Amazing... It's like he's talking to it..."
It was a recollection of him testing out his newly gained nanites, or at least that's what he was assuming.
A sort of an advance rubik's cube was being held by him, with the parts twisting and turning...to his command.
It was kinda easy, Rex admitted. And when the pieces and parts were in the right place, he brought it up to present what he had done to the researchers.
And suddenly, the researchers flinched as they seemed like they had turned into...variegated creatures...?
Rex shook off the latter part of his thought and only focused on the commanding the device part.
The pod obviously was no rubik's cube, but he has to try nonetheless.
And so, he focused on the thing he wanted.
Once again, his mind went to a black void of nothingness, representing his mental world.
Rex could be seen peacefully floating in this blank space of infinity. That statement was true only in a matter of minutes as light made its way in.
Mentally, Rex opened his eyes to see what was around, only to be greeted with the sight of his nanites hovering around him, like they're waiting for his orders.
Rex narrowed his eyes at the microscopic marvels that was the first batch of nanites. "Okay, little guys... I need you to do something for me."
Automatically, the nanites went to work, complying to Rex's command.
In the outside perspective, Violet lines that were in circuit patterns appeared on Rex's arms, with the lines spreading across the pad.
Caesar looked in awe as he hadn't been exposed to what Rex was fully capable of. It made him stood still and marvel at the nanites' influence.
Then, Rex slowly opened his eyelids and, unexpectedly, what was supposed to be his normal dark crimson eyes was thrown out the wind, as his eyeballs only displayed a neon violet hue, glowing dimly. For better or for worse, the violet circuit lines spread itself among his eyes.
Just when things were looking up, something bad happens. A surge of electricity shot through Rex's veins, violently shocking him to his core.
The pain was indescribable. He felt every watts going through the entirety of his body, without getting a moment of relief. "AAAAHHHH!"
He couldn't take it anymore, there wasn't a single second of Rex thinking he should let go and end the pain!
Yet his body betrayed his thoughts. His palm was like glued to the pad. His determination to fix this pod overpowered the pain. An act that – while altruistic – was very reckless.
"REX! Let GO!" Caesar finally made it to Rex, though he stopped his tracks as the electricity emitting was powerful. He could practically feel it gracing his skin, leading to him worrying about Rex.
His worries skyrocketed when he heard another blood curdling scream coming from his little brother.
"Rex, that's enough!" Caesar rush forwards to his little brother and tried to grab his shoulder to pull him out of his misery.
However, once his hand got in contact with Rex's shoulder, Caesar felt the excruciating energy pass onto him, causing a deeply pained scream to flee out of his throat.
Instead of holding on like he intended, Caesar instead got sent flying through the minimal open space of his lab and onto the wall on the other side.
Literal smokes steamed out of him. It was miraculous that his brains didn't got negatively affected.
Caesar held his head and tried to rub away the pain softly. It was worth the try, considering that while the pain didn't go away it did however numb down a bit.
Caesar looked up to Rex with an even more panicked expression on his face. "Rex!"
The scream and the sounds of electricity crackling continued, much to the dismay of Caesar. But soon, the electricity calmed down, as so did the violent shaking of the pod.
Caesar's eyes flickered all over the place as he was shocked and quite surprised that the pod stopped. Adding onto his surprise, the scream and crackling went mute.
It was then that Caesar came to a logical conclusion as to why...
Rex... How could he?
Immediately turning towards Rex's direction, Caesar was greeted with Rex standing still before the power conductor, with black smoke steaming out of him, kinda like Caesar from earlier.
Once he saw that the loose cord wasn't letting out dangerous electricity anymore, Caesar wasted no time on rushing towards Rex.
Just as he finally got to him, Rex's body gave in and went limp, with his mind going into deep unconsciousness. Luckily, Caesar came in at just in the nick of time to catch his body from painfully flopping down in the cold and hard metal floor.
Caesar wrapped his arms around Rex's armpits and hoisted his unconscious form up a bit.
Caesar then carefully dragged Rex's limped body away from the control pad and rested him into the corners of the lab, where the exit door was next to them.
"Rex...? Rex...?" Caesar put his hand on his little brother's shoulder and gave him a little shake, which proved that he was completely unconscious.
Caesar then quickly grabbed his arm and checked for his pulse. To his relief, Rex was still alive and breathing apparently, thanks to the subtle movement of his chest rising up and falling down.
'Thank goodness...' Caesar finally allowed himself to take a deep breath and relax as he let all the things that just happened settle deep into his mind.
With all the things that he and Rex had to endure, Caesar couldn't help but sigh through it all.
His eyes darted to Rex as he had realized something. 'Did... Did he patch up the lab? Wait, are we even airborne?'
Checking to make sure, he poked his head out in front of the window of the front door and looked through it. Seeing the outside, he was once again shocked.
Apparently, the pod laboratory ceased its engines and was parked on the ground. It's no wonder why he didn't felt even any slight vibrations of the pod, the engines were practically shut off.
.
.
.
.
But by who...?
After some thinking, Caesar only thought of one thing that could be the origin of all of this.
His eyes looked again at Rex, with curious interest conveyed within it.
Calling back to the time Rex had circuit lines on not just him but also on the control pad, in his own view, Caesar's theory was a fact.
What else could it be? Definitely not dumb luck, he wasn't the superstitious type like his cousins.
'Could he? I know he can basically talk to machines but...not in this level... He not only patched the pod but also landed the lab while doing so.' Caesar internally monologue, as he cup a feel of his chin.
'Rex's truly came a long way. From advance rubik's cubes to this... It's truly mind blowing...'
Once he honestly thought to himself that his theory was the only truth, Caesar began to enthusiastically chuckle, with a childlike glee that's reminiscent of his first time his first invention finally worked.
He then stopped once he realized that laughing while his hermanito was out of conscious was not a good look.
"Where are we, anyways?" Caesar once again peeked through the window and scanned the surroundings for any familiar sightings.
After a few minutes, Caesar heard quiet groans from his side. He perked up and turned to the left. He saw Rex finally woken up and was trying sit up.
He was immediately glad that Rex was awake and knelt down on his side. "Rex! You're awake!"
"Huh?"
Caesar couldn't help but hug his little brother tightly, which lead to Rex's air vent to get strangled, making it harder to breath.
"OW!" It also didn't help that, not an hour ago, he was electrocuted from the head and toe!
Caesar's hug ended before it even began as he quickly fried himself off of Rex. He let out a sheepish laugh. "Sorry, little brother. Got carried away..."
Once the slight pain settled down, Rex looked up towards his so-called 'brother'. Instead of taking back like what Caesar had expected, Rex gave a perplexed look. "Lo siento, pero ¿quién eres?" Rex nervously asked.
Caesar's eyes instantly went wide. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Could...Could you repeat again?"
"I...W-w...Who are you? Where am I?" Rex questioned as he doesn't have any memories of...anything...
Caesar stood up and was taken aback. "No...this can't be happening..."

Well, looks like a recap is in order — for those who are behind.
The name's Rex, Rex Salazar! I lived a somewhat normal life.
Okay, it's kinda hard to believe since everything around me has been extraordinary. But I did lived a...much more tamer life than now.
...Where should I exactly start...?
Oh yeah, the project that started it all; The Nanites Project.
Several researchers and engineers wanted on work on a project that could save the world. My parents, Rafael and Violeta, and brother, Caesar were involved with this.
They soon began to work on these microscopic machines called – you guessed it – Nanites, son!
They were created to help cure the world with its problems like world hunger, diseases, and all types of stuff.
I was very young when all of this was going down. I was just chilling at their workplace so my parents could keep an eye on me. I have met some...interesting people along the way.
But then I got into a terrible accident that I couldn't remember. And the only way to save me was a supply of nanites.
It was a risky but though parents love me so much that they inject me with the first batch of naites.
They didn't know what would happen next, but it seemed to work. I was okay...for awhile.
The side effects hit me like a truck.
It came a bit late, but once they kicked in, I was able to do things. Cool things.
I was able to talk to machines with a touch and actively control my nanites, how awesome is that? I mean, you could have easy access into sites that are hard to bypass!
...Not that I actually tried that...
The researchers and my family were amazed by what I can do. They tried a few rests to see what I can fully do with this powers.
This was basically what happened in repeat for the past few days before...well, this very explosions happens.
I don't know who did it, but I rumored that someone who hates my parents sabotaged the machine.
Which that leads us all the way here, where I loss my memories, Caesar can't catch a break, and the whole world is now infected with nanites...
Now that you're (hopefully) caught up, (these are the only things I can tell you about) What's next?
...Well, that's something this story is up to decide...

*Author's Note*
Well, it's been a long time coming and here it is! A GENERATOR REX FANFIC, FINALLY! I have been wanting to write a Gen Rex Fanfic since the start of my fanfic writing career but I have never came up with a good enough idea for one.
Some ideas were... eh, while the other ones ended before it has even began! And with the cause of that, I instead started with Miraculous, which was unexpected but okay...
Anyways, I know that The Generator Rex fanfic community is not big, so every little comments helps me feel better about writing this.
This story took place at the start of the nanite event. But instead of Caesar immediately going to his lab alone, he brought Rex with him.
So, that begs the question, What would happen to the rest of the cast if they didn't meet or known about Rex for the past five years?
I really want you guys' input on this. Because I'm an inexperienced writer and I can accidentally make the characters OOC.
Oh, and by the way, this idea came from an artist called areaz on tumblr. This story is inspired by them, Though I did put my own spin on the artist's idea... This is basically Rex's equivalent to Ben Tennyson's 23rd Dimension (That's why his circuit lines were violet instead of the regular blue.)
That'll be all for this chapter, I hope I'll see you guys in the next one!
GOODBYE~!
