Chapter 139 Going to the hospital/Welcome to our world baby Em
July 23 Saturday
Rory was miserable. 4 days past her due date. The twins were early, as twins usually are, so she did not know how it felt to be late. She was never late for anything. But she was late. She spent most of her day in the pool. She had a nice tan on her face and arms. The rest of her body stayed in the water. It was so much more comfortable. It was cool and the water made her feel weightless, not to mention it was relaxing. Logan and Ricky made her a tray that floats. She had started eating fruit while in the pool. Her body craved fruit any type of fruit. It was well known that any visitor that wanted to visit with Rory should bring their swimsuit.
Now that things have calmed down, and Melissa does not pose a threat, some of the security was lifted. Not all. During this time, Logan realized that anything could happen to his family and as long as he has the money, his family would have security.
It was Saturday morning, Logan was in the home office working. Rory was in the pool. Ricky and Karson took the boys to a pool party at Honor's. Rory paddled over to the edge of the pool and grabbed her phone.
"Logan, come get in the pool with me," Rory asked.
"Ace, I need to finish this up. Can you give me 30 minutes?" He asked. He was waterlogged. But for his wife's comfort, he would get back in the pool.
"I guess I don't have a choice." She put the phone down and paddled back toward the diving board. She was relaxing, leaning on a pool noodle. This had become her favorite way to float. She felt something warm on her leg. She smiled. Her water broke. Baby Em will be here shortly. She paddled back over to her phone and called Logan.
"Ace, babe, I know you want me to come to play, but every time you call it is delaying me coming to the pool" He told her.
"I'm not calling you to ask you to come to play. I want you to take me somewhere." She told him with a smile on her face.
"Ace, as soon as I finish, we will do whatever you want" He told her.
"But Logan, I need you to take me to the hospital so we can meet baby Em," Rory said. Logan was trying to get finished so he could do whatever Rory wanted. He wasn't paying full attention.
"Okay give me a minute," Logan said.
"Okay, but I'm going to need you to help me out of the pool," Rory said. She took her hand to wipe her leg and realized it was blood. "Hey Logan, I'm gonna need you now. I'm bleeding." Logan didn't answer, he took off toward the pool.
When he got there, Rory was sitting on the steps. There was blood everywhere, Logan started dialing 9-1-1. "Logan, it's not that bad. It's mixed with water, but you have got to help me up so I can go change to go to the hospital." Logan put the phone down, kicked off his shoes, and stepped down the steps.
By the time he had her out of the pool, his shirt and pants were wet. He helped her up the stairs to their room. He helped her out of her swimsuit and into a house dress. He was trying to find her some panties when she moaned.
Logan froze, "Ace?" he turned around to see her bent over holding her stomach. The contraction was over before Logan could get to her. "Grab my bag and Em's bag. In the top of my bag is a towel with a trash bag between the folded layers." Logan grabbed the bag and opened it. Several things fell out when he grabbed the towel. He was stuffing everything back in the bag when Evelyn came up the stairs,
"Rory, Logan?" She called. She stuck her head in the open door of their bedroom.
"In here Evelyn" Rory called.
Evelyn walked through the door. "Everything okay? I went to check on you and saw blood in the pool." She said,
"My water broke while I was floating." Rory told her.
"What do you need me to do?" Evelyn asked.
"Can you help me to the car? Logan is bringing the bags." Evelyn walked to Rory and helped her up while Logan was in the closet changing clothes.
"Do you have your towel and trash bag?" Evelyn asked.
"Yes, it's right here," Logan said, stepping out of the closet with the bag. He followed them down the stairs. Logan and Evelyn got Rory situated in the car. As Logan was getting in,
Rory told Evelyn. "I will call Dr. Boyett. Will you call the list? It's on my desk in the office," Rory asked. "Call the pool service and have them come clean the pool." Rory was still talking.
Logan opened the garage door and started backing out. "Oh, tell Karson and Ricky not to let the boys near the pool until after it has been cleaned. Also when you start making calls, tell them not to hurry. The contractions are far apart right now. Tell them we will keep them updated." Rory was yelling out the window as Logan was backing the car out of the garage.
When they got to the hospital, Logan pulled up to labor and delivery. There was a nurse, and an orderly waiting with a wheelchair. The orderly opened the door and helped Rory out and into the wheelchair. "Mr. Huntzuburger, if you will park the car we will wait on you at the elevators. We are heading to the 6th floor in case you get lost." the nurse said.
As the orderly was pushing Rory to the elevator she asked. "How many daddy's get lost?"
The orderly laughed. "More than you would think"
Logan didn't get lost, he made it to the elevator in time to ride up with them. "Babe, did you get my bag?" She asked.
"Yeah, I didn't bring Em's. Thought I could wait on it." He told her. Rory nodded her head and grimaced. She was having another contraction.
"How far apart are they?" the nurse asked.
"They're not consistent. I think this is the 5th one I have had since my water broke, that actually hurt." Rory told her.
"Did the others last about as long as this one or longer?" the nurse asked.
"About as long." She answered. The elevator dinged, the doors opened and the orderly pushed her wheelchair to the nurse's desk. Nurse Nancy was at the desk.
"Hello, Mrs. Huntzburger, Dr. Boyett called and told me you were on your way." She said as she walked around to where Rory's wheelchair was sitting. "I'll take it from here Henry, she is pre-registered," Nancy said as she started pushing her down the hall. "Henry, did you know that Mrs. Huntzburger's name before she married was Lorelai Gilmore. Do you recognize that name Henry?"
"Sure, the maternity ward is named the Lorelai Gilmore Maternity Ward. Is that your mother or grandmother?" Henry asked.
"Well, it is my great-grandmother, but my mother is also named Lorelai. She is the ranking of Lorelai. I'm sure you will see her soon" Rory said. Logan snicked.
Once they got her settled in her room, with the fetal monitor in place, Nancy told them that Dr. Sherman would be by to examine her. Dr. Boyett is out of town but is on his way. "He will be here in about 2 hours," Nancy said.
Logan's phone was steady ringing. After Nancy left, Rory told Logan to take the call, but tell everyone not to come to the hospital yet. My contractions are not even consistent."
Logan was answering his phone when Dr. Sherman knocked on the door. Nancy and Dr. Sherman entered. Nancy introduced Dr. Sherman to Logan and Rory. Logan got off his phone.
Logan stepped to the head of Rory's bed. Nancy told her to scoot down. Dr. Sherman examined her. "Well, Mrs. Huntzburger" Dr. Sherman started.
"Call me Rory and call him Logan," Rory said.
"Okay, Rory, you seem to be progressing pretty well. You are already 7 centimeters." He told her.
Nancy was standing by the monitor. "You can see here that your contractions are pretty regular. They look about 5 minutes apart." She showed Logan and Rory the monitor strip.
"But, I'm not feeling any contractions," Rory said. She was concerned. She remembered it hurting pretty bad with the twins.
"Babe, how was it with the twins?" Logan asked.
"Well, I was scared, but I remember hurting more than this." She told him.
"I'll be back in about 30 minutes to check you again. If you need something before then just call the nurses station." Dr. Sherman said as he left the room.
"Rory, would you like an epidural?" Nancy asked.
"If I say no now, does that mean I can't change my mind?" Rory asked.
"No, if you get an epidural now, you will have to stay in bed. If you wait, you can walk around which should help progress the labor. You are 7 centimeters, I would not suggest leaving the room, but you can walk around the room if daddy will help. Don't want you falling. Do you want me to help you get out of bed?" Nancy asked.
Rory shook her head. "I'm okay now. Logan can help me walk in a few minutes, I'm sure I will have to go pee soon." Rory said
Logan sent out a group text, letting everyone know the progress. He and Rory had walked the room several times now. He had helped her into the bathroom twice. He was helping her out of bed to make another round of walks when Dr. Boyett knocked on the door. "How are you doing, Rory?" She looked at the doctor,
"Okay, maybe that is not the best question. Tell me what pains you are experiencing." Dr. Boyett said.
"As long as I am standing up, the pain is like menstrual cramps. When I lay down, my back is killing me. I can feel the contractions now, but they still are not as bad as I remember them. I am just uncomfortable, more than in pain." She told her.
"Okay, can I check you to see how far we are now?" Rory nodded, and Logan helped her get back in bed. As soon as she laid down, the machine monitoring her vitals, showed her blood pressure going up. The doctor, Nancy, and Logan turned to look at the machine.
"Is that me or the baby?" Rory asked. Her eyes were wide open. Her back was hurting.
"That you, but it affects the baby," Nancy said.
"I have to stand back up, I can't stand the pain in my back," Rory said, trying to stand up.
When Logan and Nancy got her back on her feet, Dr. Boyett said. "Well, Daddy, do you think she can hold on to your shoulders like she is now and let me check her. This won't be the first time I have delivered a baby while the mother stood up."
After he checked her. He told them that it shouldn't belong. Rory was at 9 centimeters. "I'm going to find an adjustable stool. While I am gone, you have a few people in the lobby, would you like for me to send them in?" She asked.
"One at a time" Rory shook her head no. "If you could take Logan's place for a minute, he can go out there and explain why they can not come in until after she is born." Rory looked up at Logan. "I want it just to be you, me, and baby Em for a little while so we can do kangaroo care. Then, I know I am being selfish, but I want Karson and Ricky to bring the boys in to meet her. After they have met her, everyone else can come in." Rory said,
"Your pediatrician has been notified." Nancy said.
"Logan," she said, breathing through a contraction. "Never mind. Logan text Cynthia, if she is out there, tell her not to say anything except to Mitchum, but have her meet Nancy at the door."
Nancy looked at Logan and he nodded.
This is going to piss Lorelai off, things are beginning to get back to normal with her. "Ace, are you sure?" He asked.
"Yes, momma will never understand what I am trying to do. I'm not laying in bed with an epidural, smiling and enjoying myself. She will insist on staying, then proceed to make fun of me." Rory told him.
Logan and Rory were on their 3rd trip to the window and back. They would walk 6 times to the window and back to the bed. Then Rory would lean against the bed for a few, then start over.
Cynthia knocked and came in. "Hey," She said. Rory smiled at her.
"We need you to relay a message to everyone out there," Logan said.
"Okay," Cynthia said.
"I don't want any visitors before she is born. I am not able to lay down, so Dr. Boyett is going to deliver her with me standing up." Rory said. She had to stop and breathe through a contraction. "After she is born, Logan and I will have some kangaroo time. Then I want Ricky and Karson to bring the boys in. I want them to be the first to meet her besides us. After they come in, everyone can come in." Rory finished.
"Okay, I am pretty sure I understand." Cynthia said and turned toward the door.
"Is my mother out there?" Rory asked. Cynthia nodded. "When you go out there, tell her to come in here. She will be the only one and she will not be in her long."
Cynthia said. "Okay"
After Cynthia left, it wasn't 3 minutes before Lorelai came through the door. "My baby is having a baby," she said walking toward Rory trying to hug her.
"No, don't touch me," Rory said. Lorelai stepped back and raised her eyebrows. "Did you not hear what Cynthia said to the group out there? I just want you to see me because I want Will, Chris, Karson, and Ricky to be the first to meet her beside us."
"Okay baby, I understand," Lorelai said.
"I just didn't want you to get mad. We just got back to normal around each other, I just didn't want to mess that up." Rory said.
Lorelai nodded her head. "Well, daddy, how….." Lorelai did not get to finish her sentence.
Rory screamed. "Hit the buzzer, I have got to push. Mom, I will see you when this is over" Rory said. Lorelai froze.
Nancy walked in and saw Lorelai standing there. She glanced at Logan and he motioned for her to get her out. When Nancy turned to open the door for Lorelai to go out. In came Dr. Boyett and her stool. Nancy pushed Lorelai out as they were rolling in the incubator and other stuff to deliver baby Em. Rory was standing, bent over holding on to Logan's shoulder. Logan sat down in a chair, per Nancy, so Rory could push against him better. Dr. Boyett told her to push on her next contraction. This went on for 25 minutes.
"Okay, Rory, this is it. I need you to bend your knees just a little more and push with all your might on the next contraction." Dr. Boyett said.
"Come on Ace, you can do this, push on me." On the next contractions, Rory pushed as hard as she could. There was baby Em.
"Rory just stand still, Logan, can you cut the cord?" Dr. Boyett asked. Nancy came around to where Logan was and took Rory's hands and held her up while Logan cut the cord.
Baby Em arrived on July 23, 2022, weighing 6lb 4oz 21 inches long. She was examined by her penetration and was given a thumbs up. Rory and Logan enjoyed kangaroo time with baby Em. Logan helped Rory take a shower and dress in leggings and one of his shirts. When he got her situated in bed, he texted Ricky to bring in Karson and the twins. They were in the waiting room.
Then Karson and Ricky brought Will and Chris in to see her. Chris wanted to hold her. Karson sat him down in a chair and Logan put baby Em in his lap, showing him how to hold her. Will was next. They were instructed under no circumstance are they to pick up or hold baby Em without an adult. Karson and Ricky got to hold her too.
Finally, Logan went to the waiting room, inviting everyone to meet baby Em. When they entered the room, Rory was holding baby Em, sitting in bed, with Chris and Will on either side. Ricky and Karson were also standing by the bed. "Everyone, I would like you to meet Emily Lorelai Huntzburger. Baby girl" Logan said, talking to baby Em. 'This is everyone. You are so loved and I can't wait for you to get to know all these people that love you." Logan had everyone in tears.
Nancy walked into the room and just shook her head. All these people in this room were against the rules. She didn't care. This was a very special family. She smiled at the group as she made her way over to Logan. She whispered in Logan's ear. "There is a female that stopped by the Nurse's station that says she knows this family and would like to visit. She wanted me to call her when everyone was gone." She handed the number to Logan, leaned over toward Rory. "Congratulations" and left the room.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my story. I have enjoyed writing it. There will be a squeal. It will take place 5 years later. The twins would be 10 years old and Em would be 5. Karson and Ricky both will be out of school. Will they still be together? Gigi will be in College, probably Yale? Christopher will have found love again? Will this one stick? Oh, don't forget how I ended this story. Who is this mystery woman, Shira? Wanting to see her 1st granddaughter? Melissa? Just causing trouble. Or Lana? Don't think you can get rid of me that easily?
Thanks for Reading
